They use a cheese blend round bun. It really isn't a turkey club. It's more of a turkey sandwich with the fixings of a club. What I did not like at all was the bread. It totally killed the sandwich for me. It left a bad after taste. I can't really explain it. It just wasn't good. The turkey was ok. For the price of the sandwich though, I would have expected more turkey on it. There is a much better option across the street. Try Downtown Deli. It is superior to this establishment. Again, just my opinion. Try it for your self.

The bread they use is similar to an airy pizza crust, and topped with their three blends of cheese that are melted onto the bread before the meats and toppings are added. I've had almost the entire menu over the years, but my favorite is the simple sliced turkey, with lettuce, tomato (which I opt out of sometimes just because I'm not a huge tomato on a sandwich guy, unless it's an actual tomato sandwich...), onion, and then I ask to add their garlic mayo and banana peppers, and sometimes jalapeños. Their turkey club is a second favorite if I'm craving bacon on my sandwich (they also have a jalapeño bacon!). Their other deli sandwiches are great, like the original with a mix of luncheon and other deli meats. I love their lesser known meatball sandwich and cheeseburger. My wife's favorite is the pastrami. The staff at Alvin Ord's are some of the nicest folks I've met in the restaurant industry, and they're always super helpful to new and old customers alike. The vibe of the shop is like a little beachside surf shop, super casual and comfy, with indoor seating at mismatched tables, along with two screened in porches--one that's dog friendly. I can't recommend this place enough. I'd eat here every other day if I could--and that's only because I usually turn my regular sized sandwich into two days of lunch.

We were in Savannah for my cousin's bachelor party, and there were eight of us. Every meal, a different cousin got to pick where we ate. One afternoon, someone suggested Oakie's because it was close to Tybee Beach. The only thing I had asked all weekend was, "Let's make it a sit-down restaurant." As we pulled into the parking lot, I immediately realized this was a deli--walk up to the counter, order your food, and either take it to go or grab one of the small café-style tables. My cousin walked in first, I followed behind him, and he turned around and looked at me. I just shook my head and said, "Nope... there's nowhere for eight of us to sit. Let's go somewhere else." While everyone debated where to go next, one of my cousins said, "We're wasting time. Let's just grab food here and eat wherever." Best. Decision. We. Made. The. Entire. Trip. I ordered the Turkey Supreme, and while we waited we watched a steady stream of locals and visitors coming in and out. Eventually we all found places to sit and just decided to eat there. Three of us took our first bite, looked at each other, and almost at the same time said, "We're coming back here for breakfast tomorrow before we head home." And that's exactly what we did. We ate here twice in less than 24 hours and couldn't stop talking about how incredible the food was. Fresh ingredients, perfectly made sandwiches, generous portions, and everything was packed with flavor. Sometimes the simplest places end up serving the best food. Oakie's checks every box for what a neighborhood deli should be. Great food, friendly people, quick service, and consistently delicious meals. We've officially found our permanent breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot every time we visit Tybee Island. This place has earned customers for life.

Every time I'm anywhere close, I make it a point to stop, and this trip was no different. I was driving back home to North Carolina and had to make one last stop because it's just that good. The food is always fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. The sandwich was perfectly toasted with fresh ingredients, plenty of parmesan, and an amazing sauce, and the fries were cooked perfectly. Everything tasted just as good as I remembered. Service was a 10/10 and wonderful seating options MUST GO!!!

Even after the 2021 rebrand, it still held on for a while, but something in the last 5 years at the main office has completely lost touch. They expanded to three locations: ; downtown, Tybee, and Hilton Head, and in the process the whole identity fell apart. The menu has been gutted of its originality. The "OG" items are now overpriced, portion sizes have been cut in half, and the original sides that made it special are gone. What used to be a simple, order-and-sit-down experience is now chaotic. You're herded in by an overstaffed but somehow still disorganized team of high-turnover employees with zero consistency and very little emotional intelligence. There are always way too many staff for the number of customers, yet service somehow keeps getting worse. Last night was the final straw. We tried the Tybee location first, waited 30 minutes just to be seated, only to be told they were basically out of everything and could only do drinks. So we drove to downtown. Same exact thing. Out of sausage. When we asked if we could just remove it or substitute it, we didn't get a simple no, we got an "absolutely not," because apparently everything is pre-mixed and nothing can be adjusted. Even worse once we sat down. It took 15 minutes just to be asked for drink orders. A different server came over, introduced himself like we were starting fresh, and then got visibly annoyed when we said we'd already ordered water and a soda. From there it just kept getting more awkward. At one point he bumped my cup while I was literally lifting it to my lips and told me to "watch out" while he was placing food down. He took forever to check us out and finally bring our soda to go, and ended the night by saying, "just so you know I'm faster than the other girl," like we were in the middle of some weird staff competition we didn't sign up for. On the outside it still looks like a fun Savannah staple. But once you sit down, you realize you're no longer a local guest, you're trapped in an overhyped tourist operation that's completely lost what made it good in the first place.

My go to has always been the American Army or Italian Battalion sandwiches. Today's American Army was as yummy as I always remembered with turkey, ham, roast beef, cheese and all the veggie & condiment toppings, too. Once upon a time my family would stop here for their family size subs, party cut to take to the July 4th evening celebration on Ft. Stewart. We'd picnic, listen to the band and enjoy the fireworks! Thanks for the great sandwich and the fun walk down memory lane!

No big deal for the most part until it came time to pay for our order. The card reader at this kiosk was not working properly and declining any card we attempted to use so we proceeded to the main counter. As we are standing there, no less than four employees looked right at us, said nothing, did nothing and went back to whatever task they were doing. One young lady even walked by us and when we inquired as to getting assistance she kept walking and without missing a beat only said "I'm on break" and kept walking away. After a couple minutes of me leaning over the counter and asking for assistance we were still met with silence. Shortly after an employee came in from delivering an order to a drive thru car that had to "pull up and wait", she assisted us at the counter. We were then able to pay for our order, clean off our own table (as they were all dirty) and wait for our food. The state of cleanliness of this particular establishment is nothing less the absolutely disgusting. (See pictures) IMO if the health department ever came to inspect this place, there is no doubt in my mind that it would get shut down ... We will not be visiting this place again anytime soon.
