Great fried chicken, fresh creamed corn stewed rutabagas in ham fat, wonderful black eyed peas and sweet potatoes with just a little brown sugar.

When we got there, we were impressed with the plexiglass between us and the staff, although it was a bit off putting to see the lady who took our order with her mask hanging from an ear. Nevertheless, the plexiglass was between us and the lady who brought our order to us wore a mask. I couldn't see if the cooks were wearing masks or not. This restaurant appears to be newly constructed and all the furniture was new and clean. The floor was clean, too. The food? We'll, I was disappointed. The Cole slaw was real strange. It has no mayonnaise and tasted like ground up salad. The Brunswick Stew was more like potato soup than Stew, very little meat or any ingredient other than potatoes was in evidence (although, it was not too bad as a potato soup). The BBQ had no flavor at all, so it required a liberal application of the sauce to be palatable. However, my wife ordered the whole catfish and declared it delicious. Her French fries were also good. Overall? While not something I would recommend to friends, I want to return and try some different items on the menu before I recommend against this restaurant. As a new business, they may get better over time as people give them feedback. I hope they succeed, as the facility is good and I love small town restaurants.

I had country fried steak with a baked potato, and my wife had shrimp and fries. The servers did a great job. I love the self serve soda fountain. Nice clean bathrooms. The mac and cheese was fine but not great, the brunswick stew was watery, and the banana pudding was super liquidy and tasted like sunscreen (my husband said soap lol). It was also mostly whipped cream somehow. The hickory bbq sauce was great, the hush puppies were fine with the cinnamon butter, and the cornbread was really good. The portions are also TINY for the price. Staff was nice but we will not be back.

You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. The gals working at the counter were very friendly. My daughter ordered a catfish po-boy and I got a dinner portion of their Lo Country boil. I should have had the lunch portion as I ended up taking half of it home. The lo country boil was the classic shrimp, sausage, red potatoes and corn. It was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of kick. The cocktail sauce served with it had a perfect amount of horseradish. We also shared an order of "firecracker" shrimp. So tasty. My daughter reports her sandwich was tasty if a bit bready. The portion of catfish on the sandwich was plentiful. Sally Mae's is just off the interstate and worth seeking out if you are in the area.

10/10 - A Must-Stop Every Time I've been coming here ever…read moresince I was little, and it's one of those places that never disappoints. Every time I'm anywhere close, I make it a point to stop, and this trip was no different. I was driving back home to North Carolina and had to make one last stop because it's just that good. The food is always fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. The sandwich was perfectly toasted with fresh ingredients, plenty of parmesan, and an amazing sauce, and the fries were cooked perfectly. Everything tasted just as good as I remembered. Service was a 10/10 and wonderful seating options MUST GO!!!

Even after the 2021 rebrand, it still held on for a while, but something in the last 5 years at the main office has completely lost touch. They expanded to three locations: ; downtown, Tybee, and Hilton Head, and in the process the whole identity fell apart. The menu has been gutted of its originality. The "OG" items are now overpriced, portion sizes have been cut in half, and the original sides that made it special are gone. What used to be a simple, order-and-sit-down experience is now chaotic. You're herded in by an overstaffed but somehow still disorganized team of high-turnover employees with zero consistency and very little emotional intelligence. There are always way too many staff for the number of customers, yet service somehow keeps getting worse. Last night was the final straw. We tried the Tybee location first, waited 30 minutes just to be seated, only to be told they were basically out of everything and could only do drinks. So we drove to downtown. Same exact thing. Out of sausage. When we asked if we could just remove it or substitute it, we didn't get a simple no, we got an "absolutely not," because apparently everything is pre-mixed and nothing can be adjusted. Even worse once we sat down. It took 15 minutes just to be asked for drink orders. A different server came over, introduced himself like we were starting fresh, and then got visibly annoyed when we said we'd already ordered water and a soda. From there it just kept getting more awkward. At one point he bumped my cup while I was literally lifting it to my lips and told me to "watch out" while he was placing food down. He took forever to check us out and finally bring our soda to go, and ended the night by saying, "just so you know I'm faster than the other girl," like we were in the middle of some weird staff competition we didn't sign up for. On the outside it still looks like a fun Savannah staple. But once you sit down, you realize you're no longer a local guest, you're trapped in an overhyped tourist operation that's completely lost what made it good in the first place.

Formica tables, vinyl chairs and booths dot the perimeter. With its location just outside of the Ft. Stewart gate this location gets packed at lunch. They have a drive thru window, too. My go to has always been the American Army or Italian Battalion sandwiches. Today's American Army was as yummy as I always remembered with turkey, ham, roast beef, cheese and all the veggie & condiment toppings, too. Once upon a time my family would stop here for their family size subs, party cut to take to the July 4th evening celebration on Ft. Stewart. We'd picnic, listen to the band and enjoy the fireworks! Thanks for the great sandwich and the fun walk down memory lane!
