When I searched in Yelp for "healthy lunch options", the Uptown Deli menu popped up, and I was really craving their strawberry salad. But when I got to its location, a business owner next-door explained it no longer provides lunches. It's now a charcuterie and wine location. The wait was a little longer than I'm used to, but nothing I would judge too harshly for as restaurants have struggled with having enough workers during the pandemic. Uptown Deli became a stop for us on a road trip headed home as we did our best to avoid garbage fast food. We stopped in around 1 o'clock on a Wednesday afternoon. There were a half dozen other patrons in the place, and they all seemed to be enjoying their food so I looked forward to what they had to offer. I ordered the Ellis Island, which was chicken breast, pepperoni, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and mayo on toasted sourdough. I also added raw onion because raw onion on a sandwich is amazing. For a side, it comes with cole slaw and a pickle, or you can get your choice of side for an upcharge (potato chips, pasta salad, potato salad, broccoli salad, salad salad, etc). I stuck with the cole slaw. The sandwich came out in record time and was delicious. It wasn't the biggest sandwich in the world, but it was satisfying. It could have used maybe a little more pepperoni and the amount of onion they added was almost nonexistent, but the flavors all really worked together and I enjoyed it. The sourdough bread could have been griddled a little bit longer for some more color, but the sandwich was warmed through which definitely elevated it. The cole slaw came in a little ramekin and was really tasty. I know it's mostly an afterthought but it tasted fresh, and was sweet but not too sweet. The pickle quarter was ENORMOUS! Definitely the largest pickle I've ever been served with a sandwich. It was good, too! Not quite Claussen, but better than the garbage that Mt. Olive sells that you see at so many restaurants. The prices are reasonable, the service is very friendly and fast, and the food is tasty. For my money, there's not much more I could ask for and I'd definitely make a return trip. read more

Stopped here because it was not too far off Rt 95, we were hungry and it got decent reviews on Yelp. We're glad we did. It's a little tough to find since it is off the main road, down a little connector road, in the middle of a pretty industrial area, but it's worth it! We split the soup of the day - loaded potato - and it was excellent, maybe one of the most flavorful I have ever eat. Not a ton of potato chunks, but a bunch of small pieces of potato, bacon, cheese, etc. served piping hot, and really, really tasty. We also split the Bronx Bomber, pastrami with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese on marbled rye, grilled. Very good! We each added a small bag of chips, and we split an unsweetened iced tea - perfect lunch! Glad we got there about 11:45 am, because at noon a bunch of people came in. We both recommend this place. PS - if you're in the mood for bbq, the Smokin Pig is just across the road and back toward the highway a little bit, next to a gas station - we stumbled in there on a recent trip, and loved it, too! read more

My husband always gets the Little Havana sandwich, which is similar to a Cuban. I love how they play worship music in the restaurant as well. The perfect lunch! First time here and I was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Godfather sandwich, their version of an Italian sub. I am somewhat of an Italian sandwich connoisseur and let me tell you It was fantastic! Tough to find a good sandwich place sometimes. I have been searching for my go to sandwich shop since recently moving to the area and this is it! I have recently tested subway, firehouse, and Lenny's Italian sandwiches in the area and Uptown Deli completely destroyed their competitors product. My favorite spot has been Jersey Mikes for quite a while, but this place may have just claimed the top spot. I swapped the standard cole slaw side for Italian pasta and it was great too. Not your typical Italian dressing drenched pasta bowl either. Well seasoned with a touch of balsamic vinegar, it was delicious. I nvr even knew this place existed until today! I went there on my lunch break and ordered the Rockefeller sandwich to-go, which came freshly made on the most fluffy sourdough bread ( it was like pillows soft) & I was so delighted to bite into it! From the scrumptious meat to the fresh leaves of lettuce, this sandwich set me up for the the perfect bite, with an excellent side of Italian pasta salad, a pickle and drink which with a military discount, came to the reasonable price of $13! I created a yelp account just to warn people not to use this place for catering . I called yesterday and asked for a party platter of chicken salad croissants for 20 people. We normally go to chicken salad chick but I was trying to avoid driving to pooler. Anywhere you go to cater you call and tell them how many platters and how many people and they know to take care of you . The man on the phone didn't speak very good English but I didn't think much of it . I showed up and these jokers had made two GIANT party trays . TWENTY FULL SIZED SANDWICHES ! What? And then he told me I HAD to buy them because they were already made. Very accurate reviews, great sandwiches and salads. I had the Trio of salads: An outstanding Waldorff salad with pretty good dill shrimp salad and spinach pasta salad. Mom ordered a half sandwich, which was just enough and very good. Keep the half sandwich in mind if you aren't starving because these portions are HUGE. It's killing me that I can't remember what Hubby had which was also great (I'll have to edit this later). They also made a custom sandwich for my kiddo, so that was perfect. Nice change of pace from a chain sandwich shops and ingredients tasted fresh, but far from rating 5 stars. I had a cheese sub on hoagie roll. The bread was ok; not great. Tasted like something from the grocery store and not from a NY deli. For being a cheese sub, Uptown was skimpy on the main ingredient. I had two slices of cheese--provolone and mozzarella--and the slice of mozzarella was so small it was less than an afterthought. My daughter's sandwich was the same. I went back up to the counter, explained to the man working that the amount of cheese was skimpy and essentially I had a lettuce leaf and tomato slice sandwich for $5.99. He told me that they put two slices on, but when I asked for a couple extra slices of provolone he brought them out --this time-- and next time extra slices of cheese are $0.89 each.
