If you're looking for a great place to get lunch in New Bern, Lawson's on the Creek is a strong…read moreoption. They're adjoined with the Tryon Palace visitor center right there in downtown New Bern, so likely they're convenient for you. They have a decent, slightly obstructed view of the water but you can walk about 50 feet and be right on it. There is a large private parking lot, so no worries on that either. In general, the sandwiches there are darn good, and the few sides we tried (dill potato salad, and their pasta salad) were excellent. My reuben on marbled rye was straight up delicious, and you order yours based on how much meat you want on it. They use Boar's Head meats here, which while I think sometimes that is overblown, you can count on that level of quality. The thing though is this, it's gonna be a pricey lunch. They are full service, so count on tipping. Their prices for sandwiches are higher than what I'm accustomed to, even with my standards adjusted for the current life of everything be expensive that we live in in 2026. Chalk that up to waterfront dining and high rent I would imagine. In any case, if the sandwich didn't live up to the price, I wouldn't give it a 5. Tasted great, service was excellent, overall a very enjoyable lunch. Would return!

The owner (Ipock) of this restaurant has a family lineage in New Bern. They've owned several…read morerestaurants over the decades with the same "home cooked" type meals that can be eaten by young and old alike. Nothing fancy, nothing overly spicy, just plain good food. Children would especially enjoy some of the selections. The atmosphere and aroma may have a "bar" twinge because some people use it as a bar, so you'll have wet floors in the bathroom sometimes at night. This smell is hard to cover so, you'll have to deal with that, maybe. The selections my wife enjoy most are: the Hot Hamburger Plate, Hamburger Steak (both with onions and mushrooms added to the gravy for $1 extra), Shrimp & Scallops and BBQ Baby Back Ribs. The sides are less impressive, but if you know what to order, you get extract some great veggies. The mashed potatoes are REAL potatoes (not instant) and taste great (don't add salt before eating). The steamed Broccoli is excellent and is the only other vegetable I get with my meals. The Baked Potato is nominal and French fries are frozen crinkle cuts. My wife use to get the baked beans but they were discontinued. I order with my cell phone from my truck on my way home. I go to the back "take out" entrance. There is a camera with closed circuit television that they can see your vehicle with. (I never sit down to eat) Therefore I can't really comment on the service or the sanitary conditions. The place use to have more employees and they had a register w/cashier next to the back entrance. This dedicated position in now usually the responsibility of the head waitress at the bar. Since she is busy serving drinks or doubling as the main check tallying station for other waitresses,...I usually just go inside to pay for the meal rather than wait for her to come out to my truck. If it's gonna be a little while (if it's very busy, wait times can be longer) I'll sit outside and wait. She brings it out cheerfully and I always give a nice 15-20% tip. (even though she didn't really wait on me but once) I find it makes me feel good. The prices are quite reasonable if not a bargain compared to some other places. Expect to pay $10-$14 per plate, but sometimes small plates on special can be under $7. Within the last two years, I've seen the Hot Hamburger Plate be on special for $5.99. Ask for the specials of the day, there are usually two or three.

I'm glad I placed my to-go order online, because they were slammed. Since this location's grand opening was only 4 days ago & this is their first weekend since opening, I wasn't surprised. All of their food is freshly made and includes a freshness date on the back of packaged containers. I also like the fact they have minimal ingredients which are also included on their to-go containers. As soon as I got home, I devoured their Jalapeño Holly chicken salad! It was delicious with the perfect amount of mild heat. I could have taken it hotter, so even if you only like a little heat, this is a good option. I also ordered their Fancy Nancy chicken salad and pimento cheese, so can't wait to give them a try. Pro Tip: Before visiting, create an account on their website. You'll also earn rewards points for your online orders https://www.chickensaladchick.com/menu/271815 That way before you visit, you can read through their menu, because they have 13 variations of chicken salad as well as sandwiches, salads and soups. They also have a Quick Chick cooler for freshly prepared grab and go items. Not to mention their temping desserts!

This is my second review, as usual Yelp lost or deleted the last one…read more This is my second time here, the first time I was just looking for a quick lunch and then I can back this time with my wife. First off, the name is a little deceiving, this place has a more complete menu than just pizza and sandwiches. And then there is the bakery section! Don't miss that! I've tried the Ruben which was great, best I've had since I moved to NC. Both times we had the fries which are generous and there was plenty for us to share. The vibe here is local, there are clearly regulars and everyone is friendly, including the other customers who are all chatty and friendly. The staff is prompt and professional but also have that more casual vibe, we felt our waitress cared about us genuinely. I see other complain that its busy, if a restaurant is not busy it's failing. We did not have to wait, sat ourselves and were immediately brought menus. Our lunch was great and filling. But then we headed to the bakery... It's small but it has everything, cakes, cookies, preserved jellies. artisan olive oils, pastry, cupcakes etc. Everything we have tried has been really good. There are no batteries in the town where we live, and none in the two neighboring towns either despite being larger than New Bern. We find ourselves in New Bern a few times a month and are adding Famous Subs and Pizza to our list of regular stops. Even if we are not eating here we will pick up a selection of treats and fresh bread to take home with us.
