I'm no expert.... But I have travelled enough by plane that I've learned a few tricks along the way. And when traveling 6 hours across the Pacific Ocean, the last thing you want to be is hungry mid-flight. Sure.... Maybe a couple of bags pretzels and your favorite complementary soft drink will get you through, but not for me. Or maybe you are all about that "fancy" charcuterie board, a bag of Air-Dried beef Jerky and a plastic cup filled with your favorite wine that is offered by the said airline once you hit cruising altitude which will set you back about $27bucks if you're lucky. Just make sure that credit card is ready as no cash is accepted. Well, after experimenting the last few trips we've taken to Kauai with different food options to take on the plane for once we get hungry, we have discovered that Subway is our new best friend. Not only can you customize your sandwich to what you like, but we've noticed that the sandwich stays intact and travels pretty well until it's time to eat. My only advice, get the condiments on the side, otherwise you will have a very soggy sub. So here's how WE do it! While on the way to the airport, we log into our trusty subway app, select the Lihue location and pre-order our sandwiches and chips. Within 15 min or so, we pop into Subway, grab our subs and off to airport security we go. A little X-ray radiation in my sub won't kill me, will it?? Once boarded, happily in my seat hoping that the empty seat next to us is someone that won't mind my 3 crazy kids for six hours; we are read for takeoff! About an hour in the air and well into our cruising altitude when the flight attendants start making their way down the aisle asking what everyone wants to drink and handing out those tiny bag of pretzels, we are anxiously unwrapping our freshly made 6" subs knowing we will soon be filling our bellies with goodness. Meanwhile, the person next to us is drooling with envy... Don't worry, I'll give them our extra bag of pretzels. So... Your next flight home from Kauai, I suggest stopping by Subway in Lihue, grabbing your favorite 6" of 12" sub and remember how happy you will be once you're 35,000 feet in the sky. But as much as you love 'em as I do, please for the sake of everyone else on the plane, hold off on the onions. After an hour or so... They gonna stink! Safe Travels and remember... The service usually stellar. But today at Subway it was busy and as soon as I walked in, the young cashier looked at me rolled her eyes, tossed her head back and stomped her feet. As to suggest (aww man another customer damn it) well you know what young missy you have an entire life of work ahead of you so you better get used to it. Went in to grab dinner at 5:30pm on Monday (July 13th) but the door was locked. Two ladies were inside and said they were closed. Sign said they were open until 8pm. Not sure why they closed early but was really craving a sandwich! I'd call first to make sure they're open. read more

The service was extremely slow, there was only 1 customer (me). These ladies took 25 plus minutes to make my 3 simple sandwiches, I've worked in fast food restaurants before so I know these ladies could of moved faster! Unbelievably lazy slow! This review is not really about the restaurant in particular it's more about the Flatizza. I seen that they had 2 for $6 so I got the pepperoni and spicy italian. Both were tasty with enough meat and cheese and the bread was sort of crispy but a cross between a pita and a french bread pizza. I could not really tell the difference between the two but they were both good. I can see that the flatizza will only be around for awhile only because it takes so long to make it. They literally have to take the meats cut them up manually and place them on the bread. This in itself will definitely back up the line and could cut into their primary sandwiches. It can't be beat for the price. As long as the price lasts I will be game to eat this instead of other pizza options. read more

Hands down worst service I've ever had! Workers were rude and not welcoming at all. I was standing there waiting to order and both workers refused to look at me, it was hard to ask for help considering they were on opposite ends of the counter. It felt like neither of them wanted to help. None of them bothered to ask if I was ready to order or check up on me. I was the only one in the shop so it was very awkward. A nice hello or something would be nice while walking in instead of rude looking glares and no eye contact afterwards. Very bad service- subway needs to train their workers better. Never waited so long for a sandwich in my life! On the way to going for a hike this sounded like a good idea to pack away. The person that made our sandwiches: it must have been her first time in a Subway since she didn't know how to make any of our sandwiches (veggie, cold cut trio) or find the bread (wheat). She had to ask the guy running the register every single step, in the meanwhile a nasty line grew behind us. This was comical. They were so slow. They put one slice of ham on each six inch. Put two hand fulls of unions on the foot long. It looked like a onion sandwich. The bread didn't really get toasted. Basically just don't go to this one there is another one down the street. read more

This location is slightly bigger than the Kapaa one. But that parking lot is just a nightmare sometimes. There's a good amount of seating, but majority of the time, you might have to take your food to go. The staff is friendly. The ones that have made my sub's have been super quick and attentive. Very unfriendly. Ordered extra sauce on a sandwich and the lady squirted so much it was not edible anymore. Then she said my friend who had ordered before me and left the store forgot to pay for the meal deal. I offered to pay the difference and she had to cancel his order ring it up again then cancel my order to ring it up again and after all that forgot my drink upgrade to a larger size. During this whole ordeal they were very unfriendly and confused and acted like my friend was stealing from them. I felt sorry for the people waiting behind me and was angry that she implied my friend was a thief in front of them. We were working that day and in uniform so it was even more embarrassing. It is one of my usual stop as their food is fresh and they have great staff. However when I stopped-by today at 5pm it was steaming hot. On a Saturday, there were 2 young girls working that needed me to repeat my bread, cheese, sub size, and veggies and then repeat my entire order at the register at least 3 times each. Slow, slow service- 25 minutes from beginning to end, excluding time spent waiting in line. I think these girls were trying hard but management needs to train them better and put someone with more experience on to oversee them, especially on a weekend! Management fail! Service is bad! I came in with my husband and son. We're here for vacation from CA. We walked in, first thing that my husband asked for was where'stheir restroom, the seemed to be supervisor lady said "It's outside!" ...in a made tone!...No smile! My husband asked "Where outside?" She grabbed the wheat bread and went in the backroom, then the supervisor was going to continue the order with me and asked me ...Again! "What kind of meal I wanted, I said, "Kids meal, please!!" At the end, gave me my order. Inside was a small pink bracelet for a toy, I went to try to exchange it to a blue, green or other boy color, she said they don't have other colors but pink!...I was shocked! I said Subway Corp, doesn't ensure you have other colors that's aligned to boy's preference?!?!..She asked her supervisor and told her to check in the back. She then found other black plane toy and I took that. I also asked for their address to try to see which Subway location they are so I could locate them on Yelp. The fact that my sandwich had multiple different hairs in it (NONE of which were my own, obviously) is DISGUSTING. Seriously the worst service everrrrr. The new subway in Hokulei village. I placed an order thru the subway app and got there a bit early. Waited about 10 more minutes only for my boyfriend to walk in and find out they never got alarmed of an incoming order. Well I had an order confirmation email from them saying that the order went thru and was processed. I walk in to show them and they say they can't do anything cause they weren't ALARMED. So when asked if they were either going to give me my money back or make my sandwich they still said no. The other lady looks at the computer and says "here it is, did you just put it thru now?" Ummm NO I had proof of a confirmation 15 MINUTES AGO. I've worked in the food industry both casual AND high end and no matter where I went we NEVER deny the customer especially if they have proof right in front of you. I ordered a ham sandwich that is a six-inch ham sandwich and it's hard to believe that anybody can mess up a ham sandwich. I won't going to details about the sandwich but I will say that the place was dirty, the help was not friendly, Almost condescending.
