Some weeks I bring home lunch the whole weeks, other weeks I depend largely on Subway to feed me. This Subway located in Fort Street Mall directly across from Scarlet has the most eclectic customers I've ever experienced and the employees have the patience of saints. One week my coworker and I were behind a man in line who had commentary for EVERYTHING he was ordering. "Toast that twice," "yea yea make my sandwich wet," were just some of the offerings he gave us before he even made it to the register....then he proceeded to tell the cashier he wanted cookies but was watching his figure only to buy EVERY SINGLE COOKIE in the cookie case if they "promised not to tell his mother." While my coworker and I and others waiting rolled our eyes and wanted to scream at this man to STFU and move it along, these sweet baby angel employees let the man do his thing, served him with a smile and then went about moving the line along as quickly as possible. Other than the staff, there's nothing "special" about this Subway, but that's the point of chain restaurants, all of your food should taste and look the same regardless of location. What surprised me is that I ordered it on Friday...forgot my leftovers in the fridge at work, and on Monday it wasn't all nasty soggy like most salads (and even sometimes their sandwiches). I've never had any complaints or bad experience here at Subway honestly. The good or bad of my experience just depends on what menu I order. Subway located at the Fort Street Mall right across of Rain and Scarlet. The sandwich shop is one of the many eateries at the Fort Street Mall. It also happened to be one of the eateries that was still open when I entered. All other eateries were closed for the night. I entered Subway and was greeted right away by the female employee. Normally I would always order the sub club sandwich but on Thursday night I opted to order the sub of the day. $3.50 for the sub of the day...can't go wrong with that. Pepperoni, pastrami, cheese, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, green pepper, olives, mustard, mayo, and pepper all on a toasted white bread. I think I'm missing another meat...can't remember which one. Upgrade the sandwich to a meal by adding a drink and a bag of chips. I paid for my meal using my credit card. Chip card needs to be inserted into the machine until approved. I left the sandwich shop after getting a fountain drink. I decided to eat my meal outside. Good thing since Subway closed up shop ten minutes afterwards. As I was eating my meal outside I noticed the female employee locked the doors, wiped down the tables and counters, and she even swept and mopped the floor. I want to try and help local businesses especially during the pandemic and recently started patronizing the Subway Shop on Fort Street Mall, Honolulu, Hawaii... Don't get me wrong the sandwiches do taste great and the staff that makes the sandwiches is attentive and getting the order correct and make a great tasting sandwich. However, the female manager who claims to be the manager is not a manager. She doesn't listen to constructive criticism or if she does listen she doesn't believe in the value of what a customer may be suggesting and ignores them. One week I noticed that the hand sanitizer at the beginning of the line wasn't working. "oh, I know about that" she says and says she put a pump kind at the register...but that is not helping the customer upon entering the store... this is about not spreading COVID and waiting until the customer is ready to leave the store before sanitizing his or her hands. I suggested that she remove the non-functioning dispenser and put her hand pump model at the beginning of the line... I tried to explain that to her.... Her final response, "I don't care...go ahead and report me", she says. So, I did. The following week, the pump was fixed and working. There are two entrances to the sandwich shop... I thought the store was not open because there was furniture in front of the door, so I didn't go in. And then I learned that by walking around the corner that there was another entrance. Now, the manager is locking one of those doors and she is not giving any simple instructions such as placing a sign in the window to "use the other door" with an arrow. Simple fix and it gives clear instructions to the potential customer of how to enter her store. I calmly made a suggestion to her to make a sign. She seemed attentive and seemed to appreciate how that could help promote a positive experience to her customers.... BUT, she didn't do that either, and upon returning to the store for another sandwich, I had to fight my way to try and find a door that opens... No sign.... No customers....But I could see staff member working and the lights were ON. Apparently, she was just placating me and playIng nice when I made a simple suggestion but it didn't fix the problem. When it was presented the problem to her again, she said she just recently locked the door although the store is open... But no sign. Okay, lock the doors and hang a sign... a homemade sign is even acceptable. (and, while you're at it, make another to hang on the doors blocked off with furniture).  I offered to make her a sign if she would give me a pen and paper and some tape...I guess she doesn't see the value in bringing customers into her store without making it a guessing game in how to enter the store. We are trying to give her our money and she makes it difficult for the customer to have a good experience. Instead of trying to listen to constructive criticism, she cuts me off in mid sentence which escalates the problem because she is not listenIng.... She's now not happy and I'm not happy either. Bottom line, we are all tired of the pandemic and it doesn't take much to set people OFF, but if a business can not make it easier for a customer, by listenIng to constructive criticism and makIng it work... then why should we give them our money? We are trying to give our money to them to survive. All we ask is that they help make it a good experience. That starts with listening and not trying to cut the customer off in mid-sentence. read more

Ordered online, got the confirmation email with payment confirmation as well. Went to go pick it up, and they said they didn't receive anything and I'm probably at the wrong location. I showed them my order confirmation with the date/time stamp, payment confirmation, and their address. When you click on the address, it shows their location. They said since they didn't receive the order they can't make it. After going back and forth with a younger man, he said the lady on the bar could go ahead and make my sandwich order. I waited in line for my turn, read off exactly what I ordered, and once she wrapped everything up she said she can't give me the sandwich. I showed the order confirmation again and explained that I had placed the order and the other worker said she could go ahead and make it. She then said she can't give it to me and their manager wouldn't be in for a few hours. I continued to try to reason with her, showing my proof of order and payment and she wouldn't budge even when the other work said it's okay. I came to this subway because I had just gotten off work and I had a migraine so I was gonna try and get some water since I'd drank all the water I had in my flask. So I walk inside and ask the person behind the counter for a cup of water. She goes ahead and tells me it's $0.25 for tiny plastic cup they give you for water. I literally had no money on me because left my wallet at home, at the same time I was taken back from the fact that they charge for a TINY CUP OF WATER! So I explained my situation to the clerk and asked her politely though she still refused to give me a cup for water. As if this measly $0.25 cup of water would put her restaurant out of business! This subway is pretty convenient to work and I go usually 3-4x a week. The food is kind of inconsistent at times. Some days the sandwich will be made to my order. However, often times my sandwich will come out burned or tomatoes and lettuce won't be fresh. So, it's kind of a crap shoot if I get a consistent sandwich. Also, I usually order the same thing every time I come in and the same employees put together my order. I remember coming here every once in awhile sometimes for a sandwich and sometimes for just a fountain drink. One great thing about subway sandwiches is that most of them are standardized and so it feels pretty much the same or nearly the same for most of the order. Although I love meat and a lot of different meats sometimes its all about me kind of meat, I also love veggie patties, it was like sponge bob kind of sparkling patties that just bling my eyes sometimes when i think about it. It goes very well with sweet onion sauce and some extra onions would be just great. The folks behind the counter are usually pretty friendly, and they're consistent when it comes to making the sandwich. HI Yelpers, I decided to check out our local subways for dinner today since I have class at Argosy university and it was just across the street. I will try to be honest and fair in my review but I must admit this may just be my last time at this subway. I don't want to discourage people from going I just hope this review gets looked at maybe lead to a better experience for anyone who decides to go here later. As I usually do I will start with the pros about this business or should I say this business in this specific location. I came here in hopes of doing the Philly cheesesteak sub, though I know it's nothing like back home it's still a special sub for me and I have to have from time to time. Well the staff was friendly and welcoming, the location is easily accessible and well lighten so easy to find. I ordered the Italian bread as it's my favorite and one of the least number of calories. They also have a good combo to include chips or cookies and a drink, this was a must as they had oatmeal cookies. Well that's it for the pros, and now that leaves us with the cons. Unfortunately, but understandably they portion out the food and have it wrapped up ready for people to come in and this must be so that they don't have to weight it for every customer and can insure consistency. However, since this must have been close to their closing times, the food did not look appetizing and when I was considering ordering the daily special or chicken sandwich I believe the grilled teriyaki, once he opened it and I saw that I quickly said no and I will just take the steak and cheese sandwich. I think the food must have been sitting out all day because it did not have a good taste to it and though I bought a foot long I only could eat a quarter of the sandwich. I think they should have prepped only a little based on what their sales states the average amount used per 1/2 a day then prepped again after the lunch rush for they have proven to sell during that time frame. This would allow them maximum freshness and taste. I used to go to Subway on Fort Street Mall a lot, but ever since they got this new manager, I rarely go. She is awful and makes up restrictions that deter usual customer from using coupons or offers. She denied the free cookie for taking the online survey because it was not applicable with another promotion. The free cookie for doing the survey is not a promotion! It's a thank you cookie for filling out the survey! I think I went back only twice in the five months since. I used to go every week or every other week prior. I went today to with the coupon that says "Buy ANY 6" sub with 30 oz. drink and get a 6" sub of equal or lesser price, but was told it does not apply to the pastrami sub. The coupon clear states ANY sub, with any being in all caps and in red where the rest of the words in green. Fraud! I was able to get the pastrami with the similar coupon offer before she became the manager before. She is making this Subway location look bad by not honoring what the coupon states. read more

This is a good idea to get a nice lunch and dinner, depending on the hours that you go to. It didn't seem to be busy and the sandwich was pretty tasty and it was the first time that they were able to put out information about what is not being put in the sandwiches by a certain year. I have not eaten at a subway sandwich shop in a long time too, which is my favorite because I enjoy the sweet onion chicken teriyaki sandwich and most of the subway sandwich shops do put the teriyaki on top of the chicken and the sweet onion sauce and if you request it like that they will do it for you. Also the good thing is that you can place a order through the app for faster and efficient service so that you can get it quickly and go. Also check out the daily specials that this location have and you never know, you might want to check out the other things that they do offer. So if i go back again and order then this is the location for those who want something fresh as well as for myself too so that i know what I want and being able to enjoy the sandwich and the better tasting types of bread so I don't miss out on the taste too read more

9.10.13. This location is terrible! The food was ok, but the atmosphere & service here--thumbs down! I felt very rushed & uncomfortably cramped in the line here. I noticed that the line was decently long when I first got here; thankfully it was still inside the store when I arrived. When I finally got to the counter where you can see all the ingredients, I felt like I was being herded into a cow line. Workers were so mechanical & would push the orders down before the person was even in front of the ingredients section that the worker was covering. I was basically shouting my choices to the worker; I'm pretty sure all of the people in front of my knew exactly what was in my sandwich by the time they reached the register. It seemed like the part that was slowing down the line was the register. Either they need to figure out how to speed up the transaction process or they need to be a little more courteous to the customers in line. Idk about other Subway eaters, but I like being able to be in front of the items I choose to put in my sandwich & just point and say it, not shout it out to the entire eatery. I understand that they want to keep the line moving, but if they slowed down a bit, I know I would have felt better as a customer & had a more enjoyable experience here. So, I decided to try the new Flatizza (flat bread pizza). This review is for the prep workers, not the flatizza (which was great!). The flatizza come in cheese, veggie, spicy meat combo, or pepperoni. I asked if I could substitute the meat combo or pepperoni for another type of meat since I don't eat pork. The looks were as if I was asking if they could put a dollop of ice cream on the flat bread. I explained again---"well, I don't eat pork, so do you have any meat options for non pork eaters..." One worker said, no, it could not be done. Then asked what kind of meat I'd want (I'm flexible-- anything except pork!). She asked one of her coworkers who said there would be an additional charge of $1.50. Um really? Even to add extra cheese or meat is just .50cents, so this doesn't compute. This Subway location is subpar at best. I've been going to various Subway locations for many years, and by far this is the most disappointing and disheartening Subway location. Firstly, this month, there is a $7 promo for the foot-long Tuscan Chicken sandwich. On two separate occasions, the same particular Worker/Server (Asian, maybe Filipino or Thai) preparing my foot-long Tuscan Chicken sandwich put very little portions of Tuscan Chicken in the sandwich. Perhaps, she was not trained well, or was instructed by Management or Owner to do this, but this is CHEATING the Customer out of their money. I don't expect more than the normal portions, just the correct and honest amount. I've since stopped going to this location at Fort Street Mall, and now go to the Ala Moana Mall location or any of the Waikiki locations. At these other locations, I have never experienced this. Sure, the Customer(s) can verbally ask for more chicken, but shouldn't have to be cheated to begin with. Secondly, in the mornings, this Subway location is consistently and frequently out of coffee. Either the coffee runs out and the Staff fails to refill the coffee or they just do not prepare the coffee at all. On one occasion, a Customer was yelling at the Staff because he was so upset that there was always no coffee. On another occasion in the morning, while in line, I overheard another Customer talking to another Customer about how they did not have tea that morning. Again, either the Staff failed to refill the tea or they just did not prepare the tea at all. This is a consistent and frequent occurrence, not just once in a while. Many Customers choose to go to Subway for breakfast because of the $3 Breakfast Combo, but it's bad service when there's no coffee or tea and Customers have to settle with fountain beverages. Thirdly, the service needs improvement. The Workers/Servers need to be attentive to the Customer. Usually, Customers have to repeat their order(s) or request(s) because the Staff are just not paying attention. For example, on more than one occasion a Worker/Server will ask what my order is, while doing something else completely, like loading bread in the bread storage, and then ask me again what my order was. The Staff should not address the Customer until they are ready to do so, and when they do, they should give the Customer their full attention. This also happens when asking what sauce(s) and vegetables the Customer wants. I find myself constantly repeating or correcting the Staff on my sauce and vegetables. I notice that this happens with other Customers as well. Lastly, the overall Customer Service needs improvement. The Staff are not rude, but they are very indifferent. They can do more in terms of creating a pleasant and welcoming environment. On one occasion, a Customer behind me in line remarked, "Wow, she looks mad.", after being asked what his order was. I've been to many places where they are "CHANG", "TIGHT", "CHINSY", etc. but this place takes the cake!!! Here we go....I ordered a footlong sub and when asked if I wanted "everything", I said I only wanted lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and olives.......this is where the changness begins. The lettuce was scattered so thin it barely covered the meat and cheese. Picture this, if you've ever eaten a Big Mac and when you're done there are a couple of lettuce pieces leftover that dropped out of the bun, that's the amount sitting on an entire footlong sub. Next, the onions were like 1" slivers that totaled 6 pieces! That's right, 6! Just when you think SHE couldn't be any more "CHANG", she had to top herself by putting only 4 slices of olives on the entire sandwich. Yeah that's right, 4 SLICES, not whole olives. Four tiny little slices on the whole sub, oooo so cute!! This lady who was possibly an owner is so tight she can probably squeeze a diamond out of her ass! I only had a glance at her name but it was 4 letters long and she was wearing a different uniform than the others. At least now I remember why I haven't been to this location in awhile.
