There has been a wealth of new fried chicken joints opening up in the Triad lately, and while we…read moreall love more options for crispy fried poultry, they all come with their own nuances. This spot, Hangry Joes, in my opinion has more in common with Korean style fried chicken, than a Nashville hot, or traditional southern place. The menu is diverse, and they make everything look exceptionally large and tasty... honestly, in my opinion, that ends up working against them. Compared with what is presented in their imagery, you are nearly certain to be let down by what you are given. Let me explain. I ordered the "Mega Sando Combo." The picture of a huge chunk of chicken spilling well outside the bun with plenty of tangy slaw and pickles really sold it as the thing I want. Also, when words like "Mega" are used, you are specifically creating large imagery. The reality... it's an 8 ounce chicken breast. The sandwich given to me was larger than one I would be handed at Chick-Fil-A, but not A LOT larger. It all fit completely under the bun. The amount of slaw on the sandwich was very modest... i would even say sparse. While the sandwich was absolutely tasty, my expectations were way off base, and they designed it that way. I think that's a bad thing. The price was also pretty Mega, and the amount of fries it came with... weren't even medium. We had the same issue with the loaded Mac n Cheese bowl. Again.. pictured as bountiful and spilling over the top. Reality, you would not have even had to press down to put a lid on it to go. It all was below the threshold. They also should be serving the sauce on the side with the bowls... there was so much buffalo sauce in the bowl it just tasted like eating a bowl of sauce rather than sauced chicken with mac n cheese. I have now learned my lesson. I'll come back, because really, both the sandwich and the fries were very tasty... but to be honest, not as often as I'd like, and with expectations that I have now created for myself, as opposed to seriously way overblown menu images.

    California Burritos - California burrito

I do love a good burrito, so when I was in the area I decided to try the California Burrito here…read more It is big, but it is also costly at almost $14. This is an interesting dish, one that originated in San Diego in the 1980's, and soon spread across the country. It is quite different from the burrito that originated in Northern Mexico, especially around the city of Chihuahua before 1900. The dish started with the carne asada burrito and added cheese, guacamole, sour cream, pico, and even seasoned French fries. I found this burrito interesting but it is not one I'd order again, entirely too busy for me, and the texture is all over the place. I did like the restaurant overall, and will return at some point to try some of their other offerings.

I honestly went in expecting it to be kind of like Chipotle or Moe's, but this place is unique and has a flavor all its own. I got the signature California Burrito, and it was FANTASTIC and so big I couldn't even finish it. Chicken or steak, guacamole, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream, and the big kahuna: their seasoned fries. Ohhhh my gosh. The flavor in every bite of this burrito- I didn't even need the queso or sauces. Aside from the burrito though, the chips and queso were great too! I will absolutely be back, and I'll see you there!

Smart move on their part by sending the most adorable teenage boy with perfect puppy dog eyes to humbly hand us our bag as he kept saying how sorry he was. Who could be mad at him? Not me. We had ordered on their app as we were passing through the area and they were very busy so I get how a mix up could occur. The 5 stars happened because even though we sat for 20 minutes, our food did not. It was hot and it was fresh. Other places could take note of this and maybe step up their game a bit or A LOT.... I'm not saying any names but their initials being with Whataburger... Anyway, I digress. We both got the same thing. The double burger with chili, slaw, mustard, onions, and pickles. While not necessarily the best choice for a road trip lunch driving down the interstate, it's hard to be salty about something so delicious. Messy? Yes. But it was a glorious mess!! You gotta love a place that not only allows you to completely customize your food, but allows it for relatively no extra charge except on the big ticket items like bacon or extra cheese. And they don't skimp either... which again made for a messy drive but well worth the laundry I had to do as soon as our 7 hour drive was over. The two patties were perfectly done, the buns were fresh and they were very, very liberal with the included toppings. This thing was stacked with a wonderful, meaty chili, cool, crisp slaw, crunchy pickles, and rounded out with fresh onions that added a terrific contrast to the chili and slaw. And the toppings were spread through out the sandwich so that every bite delivered on flavor. They were also generous with the napkins, which is rare these days and very, very much appreciated. The fries were good although I'm not a big fan of the crinkle variety... that said, I do appreciate that you have the option in the app to get them extra crispy. That made for a much better experience. Though they're not my favorite type of fries, these were well cooked, soft on the inside without being mealy like most crinkles are; while having a nice crispy exterior. If I have to have crinkle cut fries, I'd prefer Dairi-O's. I also tried their tzatziki sauce because I love that as a dipping sauce for fries and it was pretty spot on. At first, when I saw it on the menu, my thought was, "what does a burger joint really know about tzatziki sauce?" Turns out, a lot. It was creamy, tangy, with just the right amount of fresh cucumber and dill. Over all, as far as I'm concerned, it's a solid fast food choice that feels less like fast food and more like eating a perfect burger from your backyard grill. We both enjoyed it very much and will be back.

So many places throw on one or two extra and call it a day, but this was a legit pickle situation. The crinkle-cut fries were seasoned and really good, the milkshake was decent, and the burger was solid overall. Nothing fancy, just classic fast-food comfort done well. For two double combos and a chocolate shake, it was $29 and some change, which felt pretty reasonable. I'd definitely grab it again if I'm in that area. Perfect post-disc golf fuel.

I normally have good experiences with Chick-fil-A, but this visit was extremely frustrating…read more I placed a mobile curbside order around 3:04 PM at the High Point location. My husband picked up the order and brought it home, and when we sat down to eat that's when we discovered several things were wrong. We ordered two Jalapeño Ranch Club combos. My order was the standard Jalapeño Ranch Club sandwich with a medium fry and a Dr Pepper float. My husband ordered the spicy Jalapeño Ranch Club with bacon, a large fry, and a Cherry Coke float. Instead, we received three Dr Pepper floats. My husband doesn't even like Dr Pepper, which is why he specifically ordered the Cherry Coke float. One of the fries that was supposed to be large was also not correct. When we noticed the issues, I immediately tried calling the restaurant. The call went through the automated system and then straight to voicemail. I called multiple times and never got a hold of anyone. After that, I went through the Chick-fil-A app customer service. The representative I spoke with was actually very helpful. She listened carefully and was able to understand everything I explained, even though I was frustrated. She issued a care/reference number and said it would take 2-5 days to resolve. Since we wanted the order corrected immediately, my husband drove back to the restaurant. When he arrived, he spoke with Kiev, who identified himself as the FOH Director. He said they could correct the food order, but they would not redo the drinks, even though the drinks were wrong. In addition, I had redeemed rewards in the app for a Chocolate Chunk Cookie and a Fudge Brownie, and we were told those could not be provided either. So after driving back to the store and burning more gas, my husband still did not get the drink he ordered, and we never received the cookie or brownie that were redeemed through the app. Another thing worth noting is that the restaurant was not busy at all at the time, which made the multiple errors even more surprising. The only positive part of the experience was the customer service representative through the app, who handled the call professionally and gave me a reference number. For a brand known for accuracy and customer service, this experience did not meet the Chick-fil-A standard.
