Suburban is a great company with phenomenal customer service. The only reason they are 4 instead of 5 stars is because of their prices. Their propane tends to be double the price of their competitors and when re evaluating expenses we couldn't justify the cost. Don't ever use Suburban Propane. Their business model is to lure you in with cheap tank rental and short-term guaranteed pricing, then after a year they start price gouging in a major way and you can only buy from them with their tank. This business model should be illegal, it's racketeering. Their delivery is unreliable and nearly ruined our holidays two years ago by letting the tank go empty despite multiple calls to deliver. When I was finally able to get hooked to natural gas, it took them 6 months to pick up their tank, and then another 5 months to refund my $800+ credit balance after calling them every month. Tank rental fee just jumped 480% and last fillup was at $6.35/gallon. Will cost almost $200 to have them take back their equipment but probably worth it in the long run to get to a much cheaper company who doesn't nickle and dime and charge outrageous prices. Drove specifically here because they are a Propane Dealer. Had disconnected bottles and drove here to find out they are no longer open to the public. This makes no sense! The gas stations are still selling propane and other propane dealers. This is an essential service! This is not a luxury item. It is for heating and cooking but yet a full service dealer is not open! I liked them as a propane provider for the past 4 years. But now I have stopped doing business with them and had them remove their tank. When I asked for a quote in July 2023 on propane, they gave me a figure of 4.65 per gal. Wow so expensive. I called around and other business gave me a quote that was half their rate and even lower. They don't ask if they should fill your tank, even if you don't need propane at that moment. They just show up, top it off and charge for the cost of a liver donation. They also never let you know when they're going to shut off your gas and lock your tank. Yeah, we're late on our payment. IT'S A FREAKING PANDEMIC. I haven't worked since June of last year. It was a $300 payment. REALLY??? That's going to put your company in the red? At the VERY least, let the homeowner KNOW you're there to lock the tank before you lock the tank. Every damn time the tank gets locked, it F....'s up the furnace controls AND they charge an extra $130 to reconnect. Open 8-5, but ..... no one that can fill propane bottles ??? That's kinda closed in my book ! Especially after disconnecting and removing both my RV bottles and putting them on the fill table which was steel with no rubber matt (sparks anyone ?). I was wondering why no one came out to greet me. Went in, gruff lady says no can fill, load bottles back onto RV. If there would have been a sign on the fill shed that said closed or not currently filling, I would have never disassembled everything. And she didn't seem too nice when she said it either .... like I was bothering her. Then .... she recommends a 76 station 6 miles south on the freeway where we came from (so would be 12 mile round trip), but when I got back in my RV, I google "propane", and there was a place right across the overpass only 1.3 miles away. A really nice looking place. With customers that smile, and a nice office. Go figure .... read more

It is truly unfortunate that Suburban took over the local propane dealerships in the area. I have now been burned (pun intended) twice by them. Maybe three times. Anyway, done. Would not recommend them because they do not flag their accounts per their customer requests. So when I have now run out of propane twice, I get to pay premium fees. This is for the marysville location with the "help" of Maryjane and her supervisor. This company's fees are ridiculous. To start off, they charge $90 to install the propane tank. Ok, most things have a start up fee. They charge an annual rental fee for the tank of $70... okay, but I'm paying for the propane. The tank should be included because you have to have it for the service. Waste management doesn't charge for using their trash cans. You pay to use the space within the trash cans. They then charge 8 different taxes after your purchase of propane. I'll attach photos for reference. Why would anyone have to pay a transportation fee, tax on that, a safety fee, tax on that, and so on. That is ridiculous. Especially when I'm being charged that "safety fee" when I've had a propane leak for 6 months. Again, no one pays waste management for example, a driver to pick up their trash and a safety fee of them picking up whatever harmful/gross/waste you place in the waste cans. You just pay for the space in the can. But before I could cancel my service, they hit me with a charge of $90 for cancelling, plus a .75 cent per gallon "restocking fee" charge of whatever propane is left in the tank. Why should anyone be charged that. PUD, WM, Internet/cell phones/cable (after contract), and Water companies never charge such a comical and absurd fee. The manager then explains (to sum it up), "tough, that's our fees." My money needs to be refunded in full. I refuse to pay a cancelling fee or restocking fee. This business is beyond gouging, and I would never recommend them to anyone. Ever. Even if they were the only propane company around, I'd rather build a fire outside. You guys are sooooo fired! Residential propane delivery. Pretty straight forward. Someone orders propane delivery service. You know where they live. You know were to find them. You come by every two weeks and fill their tank (which you charge them for and + delivery fees BTW!). Is there a problem? Call your customer. You have the phone number for your customer....And you know where they live. Suburban is way-way high priced compared to your competition. My house is ice cold 3 days in a row because of an empty tank. This is the third time in the 4 years that I have lived here. Your services are no longer required.... We have a tank from Suburban Propane for our in-ground pool. We don't get regular deliveries because it's weather permitting. Went to order 200 gallons to be delivered and they gave us a price of $1000.00. After stating that we wouldn't pay that they offered $700. **keep in mind that the going price for propane is $1.49 a gallon, give or take. So it should cost about $298 for 200 gallons. Their reasoning for charging us $5 a gallon was "because you don't get deliveries regular enough". We canceled our account and told them to come pick up their tank. The Country Store Co-Op in Stanwood is happy to take our business no matter how often we get deliveries. Plus, we get a kickback every year in dividends on how much we spend there. Don't bother with Suburban Propane unless you're a fan of price gauging or consider getting taken advantage a pastime. read more

You have lost ANOTHER customer, due to poor business practices. About 2 weeks ago my husband and I decided that since we were in the area, we would have our tank filled at Suburban propane. We brought our 7.1 gallon tank to be refilled. Biggest mistake EVER! After waiting about 15 minutes for someone to come out and fill it, we get the OFFICE MANAGER Wayne. And as I am sitting in the car and watching him, I realize that he doesn't know what he is doing, as PROPANE GAS IS LEAKING IN THE AIR! Of course, once you get the service you have to pay for it. And what did they charge us? Over $3 a gallon! So, to sum up, they OVERCHARGED US way past market price (A-1 gas at Island Crossing and The Country Store in Stanwood charge $1.99 a gallon) and not only that, but we LOST 2 GALLONS OF GAS IN THE AIR! This company is a complete rip-off. They play games when you try to get them to tell you the price per gallon of propane. They will over charge you. My most recent bill is at $6.4620 per gallon as of 1/28/21. I dare anyone to find that price per gallon as a prevailing rate. Plus this account should have been on auto refill. I have found the employees to be polite, however their prices are criminal, double what the completion is charging. I switched to Vander Yacht today and switching was cheaper than a minimum 100 gallon delivery from suburban. To top this off they want to charge me $90 to pick up their tanks. Always paid exorbitant prices for power, gas & electric. Suburban has come to our rescue on several occasions and we are appreciative. Professional, attentive and informational. If you like being ripped off this is the company for you! I am a 20 year customer of Suburban propane and live in Arlington. I have two tanks for propane for a total of about 500 to 600 gallons, one tank for my house and the other for a shop space. Suburban owns the tanks, which I lease from them (and so cannot shop around to other propane suppliers). Due to circumstances that I will not try and go into here (job changes etc), I have been forced to look at my expenses a little more closely these past three to four years. I was surprised (back in 2006) to see how much I was spending on Propane for my household heat. I assumed that Suburban was charging me fair market prices, so to try and cut back I sealed off several rooms in my house and turned my thermostat down to 50 degrees. Any heat over 50 is from my wood stove. Needless to say I have been cold and uncomfortable these past three winters, and worked my tail off to keep up a supply of firewood. On November 24th, 2009 Suburban filled my tank, they charged me $4.37 a gallon. Then on January 24th 2010 I ran out (which, per my service contract, isn't supposed to happen). They came and filled the tank, charging me $4.79 a gallon. That's $1065.60 to heat 1350 sq feet to 50 degrees for two months. OUCH, when I started talking to friends about it I was surprised to hear that Natural gas is just over $2.00 a gallon and other Propane companies were rumored to be much less than Suburban. I called Suburban to complain, they gave me a credit down to $3.89 a gallon on the January fill. Next I checked into Natural gas, the pipeline ends 2000 feet from my driveway, I got a quote of $78,000 to extend the pipeline, that's not gonna happen. So then I started checking with other propane companies. I was shocked when I got quotes from: Enviro Propane- $2.59, American Distributing- $2.39, Amerigas- $2.69, and Ferrell gas at $2.49. These other suppliers were apologizing to me for their "high" price quotes. So, how can this be? How can Suburban charge me $4.79 when the market is at $2.50? Remember, it's not easy to switch due to the tank lease. I called Suburban back and confronted them, they make no apologies and offer no justification for their price gouging. I have every receipt going back 20 years, have they been ripping me off the entire time? I have always paid them in full and on time, yet they are willing to throw away a 20 year customer over their greed, what else can it be??? BUYER BE WARE, these guys are CROOKS, they are stealing from their customers. Only an idiot woiuld buy from them, and I've been an idiot for too long, I AM SWITCHING to someone (anyone) else!!! read more

Suburban Propane is the worst utility company I have dealt with, and I thought Comcast was bad. I just realized upon going over some bills and having little money that they cranked my charge up to over $5/gallon. The going rate around here is a little over $1.50/gallon. I've been a steady customer with constant service for more than 5 years, and every time I have had to deal with them, it is a complete hassle like they seriously don't even want my business. I am very easy to deal with, that is what I'm told. I am probably going to look into my options to sue this company, because this is beyond gouging. I have all my past bills and I could post pics for all to see. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY TO DO YOU RIGHT. Sometimes I put things on autopay and just forget about it.
