Do you miss the days when you could walk into a hardware store and talk to someone who'd was familiar with DIY work, or was an expert on the product they were selling? Do you find yourself frustrated at the lowest common denominator of customer service at Lowes or The Home Depot? If so, Clearview True Value Hardware transports you back to a time when a hardware store was more about expertise, know-how, and assisting in getting the job done, and less about a giant store with 200 selections of light bulbs, levels and lumber that nobody on staff can differentiate. Merchandise Quality/Selection: It's amazing what can be packed into a well organized store, and Clearview True Value Hardware is a perfect example of that. There's plenty of hardware, shop tools, garden tools, large tools (axes/shovels/sledges), ladders, fuel, locks, paint/stain, and gloves/masks. I've demoed an entire 2500 square foot house and landscaped it with items out of this store. I'm not entirely sure I couldn't have rebuilt it with items purchased here as well. I can tell you that those tools did some heavy lifting and have continued to hold up. We're talking snow shovels, clippers, axes, prybars, sledgehammers, mallets, the whole nine yards. On top of the usual hardware store items, there are three things that make Clearview True Value a little unique--fantastic propane prices, readily available hay/feed/grain, and BBQ/grill set-up assembly service. Many people from Lake Stevens out to Mill Creek and Woodinville make the drive for simply the propane and/or feed. Ambiance & Service: The Gunns, who own the store have been in business for as long as I can remember, and their passion for the business shows. There's a clear and obvious feeling of a entering a small/helpful community business here, which is the magic that happens when you've got people that care. That attitude extends to the rest of the staff, as I've personally bought stuff from probably everyone who's worked there throughout the last few years. All of them seem knowledgeable, professional, and happy to be there. As mentioned above the store is well organized, and set up in a logical fashion with seasonal items up front (or outside) and a hardware section in the back. In between you'll find aisles that are laid out in a format that lends itself well to the shopper. For example: Large tools are spaced out along the exterior walls for easy comparison. If you've got a task (or two) that you're trying to accomplish, you'll likely be able to grab what you need in one section. Final Thoughts: If you're a 15+ minute drive from the Clearview area, sure, you might be better served going elsewhere for small items, or things you don't need assistance on. For those tasks where you need a helpful hand, the drive out to Clearview is worth considering. For those living in the general vicinity of the store--well, you're in luck, because you've got a local hardware store that will do what they can to make your "honey-do" list shrink a bit with the least amount of pain to your time, patience, and wallet. -AC

This place is great. People are old school type and very friendly. If you use propane this is the best place in town to buy it.

Which steuck me as a bumch of garbage, but I called the Silver Lake store. The lady I talked to was wonderful, and was also a resident of Mukilteo. She couldn't believe what I hD been told. "Let me give them a call for you." I went outside and worked for a little over an hour. No call. I came back in and called Silver Lake again. "They haven't called you yet??" "Nope." "Let me call them again." She called right back to tell me that" when I got the manager and gave him my name, he hung up on me" (!!) So I contacted Ace corporate to lodge a formal complaint. I was put on hold for 20 minutes and was told"I lodged your complaint with the store manager and you should be hearing from him soon." I told him I was mot holding my breath for that call.( that never came.) Meanwhile the gal from Silver Lake called back and offered to deliver from her store for a small fee. I told her "thank you so much for going above and beyond, but I won't give Ace Hardware another nickel of my money."

I want to check out here," no one offered to help. Instead, the cashier at the first register told me I was being rude and then refused to check us out, turning what should have been a routine checkout into an embarrassing public scene that ultimately ended with a manager checking us out. My mother has been shopping at McLendon's in Woodinville for decades and was taken aback by the way we were treated. We had already spent most of the day buying gardening supplies and had loaded and unloaded heavy items before coming to McLendon's for a few more things. We ended up with two carts, including a heavy flat cart carrying three long bags of potting soil with a long shovel balanced across the top. It wasn't just heavy--it was awkward to maneuver, especially around tight corners. At checkout, I was directed to another register. I started to move the cart, but the cashier was facing a different aisle and said he couldn't scan the bags from where he was. It quickly became apparent that I would have to maneuver the cart around a very tight corner by myself while keeping the load balanced. The other option was to back up and come around another way, which would have required moving my mother and her cart. My mother has neuropathy in her feet and is very unsteady, so neither option was practical. The cashier did not offer to help move the cart, reposition himself, or assist with the bags in any way. I went back to the first register and said, "I want to check out here." She again told me I needed to move to the next register. I said, with admittedly some tired exasperation, "I don't want to. I want to check out here." After I said that, the woman at the first register very loudly told me I was being rude. I asked, "Are you going to check us out?" She simply stood there for a time without responding. My mother, who is 80 years old, had been standing there watching the entire interaction. She even said to her, "Isn't the customer always right?" By that point, the exchange had drawn the attention of another customer, who inserted himself into the situation and began insulting me. Finally, after being loudly lectured, the cashier said she would have to get her manager, waved her hands in the air, said, "I can't do this," and left to get him. The volume of her voice and her visible anger quickly drew the attention of several customers, turning what should have been a routine checkout into an embarrassing public scene. The manager ultimately came over and checked us out. He, in stark contrast to her, was very nice. He looked to see if my mom had any coupons on file, then asked another employee to help load the soil into my car. What disappointed me most was how quickly this escalated. If either employee had simply offered to help with the cart, the entire situation could have been resolved in less than a minute. We had two carts that were part of the same purchase--one my mother was pushing and one I was pushing. Instead of asking us to move both carts, it would have been far easier to let the customer behind us proceed to the next register. I understand that stores have procedures, but good customer service also means recognizing when a customer is dealing with heavy, awkward merchandise and offering assistance. I sincerely hope management will use this as an opportunity to remind employees that a calm, solution-oriented approach--and a willingness to help a customer with a heavy load--can make all the difference. 7-6-26 Edit: After taking some time to reflect on what happened, I've updated this review to clarify the sequence of events. My mother remains just as upset as I am about the way we were treated. She would welcome the opportunity to speak with management if they would like to discuss what happened. We would genuinely like to feel comfortable shopping at McLendon's again, but that will depend on how this situation is handled.

You failed miserably. Things can happen, but making promises and verifying that promise for a replacement when you delivered the wrong order, to begin with and when you fail to follow up as promised,, is on you, not the customer. When calling to verify the delivery 2 days past the promised date, it takes 15 minutes to tell the customer you need a couple of minutes to find the order and promise a callback, and an hour later, while landscapers are waiting, a second call is placed. I waited 2 hours for that follow-up call when I called you. All the excuses do not equal taking action. The important piece of this was that this was a very special Christmas presentation that used these lights. My wife started this. Since my wife's passing, this will be the first time they have not been up. This is also the first time all my children and grandchildren will be together. Your lack of basic customer service just ruined a long-running family tradition. I was not asking for a miracle; I was asking for just plain customer service. You and 3 of your employees failed.
