If you're doing some weird DIY thing, you can talk about your needs/goals, and they'll often have suggestions for how you might meet that goal. I used to think this was a good place to find all the things that the big box stores don't. But apparently not so good for nails. I came in for a specific nail for nailing down a floor transition piece. All I could find were big framing, nails, and roofing nails. When I asked for help, I was just directed to the other side of the store and to go look around in the nail room. Oh well at least they had battery powered xmas lights. read more

I have been to this store more than 500 times. It is Amazing...full of experts of all kinds, everything you need in hardware and plants and finally, it is less than a mile from my house. Everyone that works here with less than five exceptions are experts in construction, gardening and hardware fields. 07/01/2024 - Placed an order for a part for our BBQ, 07/02/2024 - Credit card charge goes through 07/20/2024 - No call from McLendon, called to follow up, still no ETA 07/27/2024 - Follow up call ends up w/"No ETA" (few more calls to follow, and "no ETA" was their answer each time) 08/17/2024 - Order still not filled, followed up and was told it'll come around December (of this year???). 08/22/2024 - Decided to request a refund 08/24/2024 - Still no refund, followed up, was told it'll take "few more days" It is understandable some orders may take longer than usual but WHY DID THEY CHARGE OUR CREDIT CARD before THE ORDER IS FILLED? This practice is highly suspicious. Be aware of their PROMPTNESS in taking your money while they're customer service is slow as frozen molasses. As a long time (25 years - I believe before home depot across the highway opened) customer of McLendon in Woodinville, it is sad to write this review. I had some paint to recycle - and they are an official location for that. Going into this though I know that they can't be super happy about that so the few times that I have done that in the past I always buy something - even if I don't need it (but there is always stuff I want :)). And that was of course my plan as usual. I went inside to find a person at the paint counter to ensure they had space - and a man that eventually identified himself as the long serving manager of the area met me. I'd not give him the highest mark on the friendly scale - even before I asked about paint recycle capacity ... say a 6 out of 10 as in talking to me was not at the top of his wish list. Anyway - I explained that I had some paint and before I could even finish my sentence the friendly factor went to a 2, and I got the message back about what he can and can't do etc. I waited for him to finish - then raised my eyebrows a bit and just shared back - ok, no worries - and conveyed my last experience (which was amazing but not with him). He then turned just downright rude. It was almost comical and I just told him look - no judgement - just sharing data/ facts. And yet he was still just rude. It was surprising. We live in a world where the key differentiator in a place like McLendon and say amazon or HD is in theory the type of customer interaction you can get ... and in the past this has generally been good at McLendon - zero at amazon and totally random at HD. With reasonable customer service I expect to pay more - and you do here ... but if customer service is just hostile, then I'd rather not have any and pay less. So going forward, that's what I'll do - vote with my wallet. It's sad though, and something that I get that most retailers are struggling with given the higher gap between wages that can be paid and the extent to which that is a livable wage or not increases. read more

Every time I go to McLendons I find price mislabeled on their plants. The sign showed : 1 gallon perennials 14.99 each. When I got to the cash register, the price came up as 19.99. When I showed them a picture of their sign, they claimed it didn't apply to the plants that I chose even though they were the only 1 gallon plants near the sign. This happens repeatedly. Purchased a heavy duty scissor (aviation snips) for cutting carpet padding, after being in the store for 20 minutes and being greeted by no one. I looked up the appropriate tool online (while in Mclendons) to make my purchasing decision. The snips worked so terribly that we quickly resorted to other tools to get the job done. When I went to return the snips, the woman behind the counter looked at me incredulously and told me that I couldn't return used merchandise. When she offered to have an associate help with another purchase, I modestly declined. After all, there's many other brick and mortar and online shops that guarantee their products and allow returns at a minimum. Plus these places have a much better selection. I have been coming to this store for several years and it has kept me out of many problems! I prefer to go here over Home Depot as the selection for quality tools and parts exceeds what can be found there. Also the customer service has always been top notch. Love the convenient location. Parking lot is small but rarely too full. Can usually find what I'm looking for. Had an unfriendly experience recently. Was not greeted in a friendly manner or left feeling welcomed at all. Minimal conversation and snippy cashier. Bought some gorgeous flowers and they were on sale. Love to see frequent sales here. Was not offered any help to carry anything out. Next time will pick a different cashier as I know many wonderful people do work here. A gem of a store! read more

Service has gone downhill. I usually come here for one-off fasteners in bins. They haven't replenished the metric bins, and their supply is running out. Supply has been running out for the past year. There's also this guy who loves to tell you what he IS NOT going to do for you. Tonight, I showed up and was met at the door with a hand held out, signaling me to stop. He told me they were closed, and I would have to come back another day. When I returned to my car, my phone showed there were still a couple of minutes left before closing. I could have got what I needed. Instead, I went over to Home Depot. McLendon Hardware used to be great. However, many of the people have left and the attitudes have changed. I would rather be invisible to a Home Depot employee than treated poorly/unwelcome and talked down to by the McLendon Team. I think I am finally done with them. :( read more

McClendons hardware is a horrible store. You can never find anyone to help you. It takes them forever you stand in line for an hour and then when it's your turn, they take 50 other people and start other lines without grabbing you first they only have two people at cash registers and the customer service line is supposed to help out but it takes them 30 minutes per person. I will never go to McClendons hardware again. I will go to Home Depot every time. read more

My parents were having a really hard time finding someone to change their water heater because they live in a condo and the type of water heater they have is linked to the furnace and it is placed in an elevated location that is hard to reach. 3 companies said they would not do the job, only 1 company said they could it but for $4k, then we found McLendon (thank goodness). They did the job for $2,300 and the price was not the only impressive thing, they were so professional, speedy and knowledgeable. This place is where you should start for Any project. I went in to get a washer for My husband and a retired plumber helped me, he asked why it was for and he explained how to fix it. I didn't need a new washer at all. Next time I went in looking for something they told me the tool I bought Was a Home Depot exclusive but helped with a few other things. I always start here. They actually know what they are doing and if the person helping you Isn't sure then they'll find someone. They also recycle paint and when you buy mulch or gravel the put it on your car! Love this place! Great plant and flower section with knowledgeable staff too! Also great Christmas lights. A little more pricey but a lot more hearty for sure. read more

The store is very cramped with poor signage, and I find it practically impossible to find anything without asking one of the sales associates. At times I cant find anyone, so I get frustrated. This is a hardware store - you know what to expect in terms of shopping, and I rarely give five stars for regular stores. So how did they earn a five star review? Service. I went in and purchased a grill. I have a Mazda Miata. It wasn't going to fit. So I asked for it to be delivered. Delivery same day was available. When it arrived,unfortunately, it was the wrong one. Natural gas vs. LP - no big deal. I called the store, and was fully expecting to hear that they needed to deliver it another day. Instead, the manager called the guy in the truck, who picked up the right one from the store and swapped them out, less than 30 minutes after the first delivery. I normally expect an apology, but this was even better. They kept their promise, even though it meant an extra delivery the same day. Throughout it all, I got people who said what they were going to do, and then did it. Awesome service, and I see why everyone in Woodinville suggests them despite there being a Home Depot just round the corner, The big box stores aren't even in the same league. read more

I'm old enough to remember when customer service was more important than a sale. McLendon Hardware takes me back to those times. It's a great hardware store, although parking is a bit of an issue. The aisles are crowded and close, and there are a lot of items to choose from. That's great if you know what you're looking for. However, where McLendon's really shines is when you don't know what you need. I walked in with 2 screws, one had the right thread, the other had the right length. They were able to help me find the right screw, and then directed me to some additional supplies. I've been in Lowes and Home Depot and didn't find any helpful floor staff. Yeah, the prices might be a touch higher, but it's a local business and you're helping local folks. Checkout can be slow, but that's because the folks are friendly enough to talk with you while you checkout and they make sure that you had a good experience. If it were closer, it would be my first choice for hardware supplies. However, when I need help, it is my first choice. read more

I went in to get a couple pieces of pipe threaded, but they won't do that if you don't buy the pipe from them first. Not as good as the Renton McLendon's because this store is much smaller and more crowded, but still heads and shoulders above Home Depot which is just across 522. The staff is more friendly, more knowledgeable, and easier to find. The plants and flowers are better. It's a local business; they source things locally when they can and keep money in our regional economy. Sure, sometimes they won't have what you need, but they will get it in a day or two for you, no problem. And those few times they didn't have what I needed, neither did the Home Depot, and it took five times as long to find out that they didn't have it. On the whole, it's McLendon's close to home first, then if I have time and if I'm going that way for other things, McLendon's in Renton; only after being stumped both places do I start considering Home Depot. My last quest like this was for an umbrella-style folding clothesline (your family had one as a kid; they work great here in our climate for 8-9 months a year, providing completely free clothes drying). I eventually found one for $50 online at a Canadian tire company. Go figure! read more
