Dunn Lumber is still going strong after its big remodel a few years ago. It's way more geared toward the residential (non-commercial) customer than it was a while back. I go there all the time for plumbing parts, electrical, trim, paint, and other home improvement basics. Yes, it's more expensive than Home Depot, but that's reality. I have no problem with this. If I want cheap, I'll make the freeway trek to Bothell. I'm happy to pay a bit extra for the convenience of having Dunn Lumber in Kirkland instead of yet another Kirkland condominium block. Dunn can improve by getting rid of the space-wasting Mothership in the center. It may be necessary to address the needs of tradespeople in the mornings. But the rest of the day, it's just wasting space. read more

i'm a Residential remodeling Contractor and have been to many of the supply stores on the East side. (405 Corridor). Kirkland Dunn Lumber is my go to store when wanting quality lumber or other building materials. The display areas for various decking and railing products is a huge help. The staff is friendly and go the extra mile. Great job!! read more

If all you need is a 5 foot piece of beveled cedar siding get ready to stand around a waste time. You can't be in their lumber yard without an employee but you can't get an employee without a number and of course the line is usually 5 to 10 deep. So a 20-30 minute wait to get a small piece of cedar siding. read more

I went to Dunn today to get advice on a stain for our garage door. The people who helped me were knowledgeable, courteous, and even provided me with free samples so that I could be confident of my choices. They steered me away from making purchases I did not need, and took the time to educate me on what finish I would be likely to experience. They have a great system of making sure that customers are being helped in the order that they come into the store, and then they take the time to make sure you get everything that you need. All in all, a fantastic experience! read more

Quality of building materials is excellent. Have a wide variety of products and quick delivery of materials and products.

Ordered new new deck boards for delivery and very unhappy with the quality of the wood. How am I supposed to put chipped, discolored, splitting wood on a brand new deck. 48 of the wrong sized boards were dropped. Update: New boards were delivered the very next morning. New boards were a tad better but I still had to go to Dunn with 12 14' boards to have them exchanged for boards suitable for a deck (holes, soft knots, splitting.) Fortunately I have a vehicle that I'm able to do this with. When I arrived an associate and I went out to inspect my boards that I wanted to exchange. He then said that "we allow an exchange within reason, and that if a percentage of boards within your order are not satisfactory then maybe you're using the wrong material." This is ridiculous. If you have a project that you need good wood for, go pick it out yourself or you may find yourself not within reason for exchange.... read more

When the lumber was dropped off the driver literally tilt his bed to put the end of the wood on the driveway then drove out from under it.... then when they came to pick up the left overs they left this, see picture. good wood but beyond that.... pretty poor. Update, see manager response below, the manager finds it good practice to leave the "Dunn Lumber" branded covering in a heap, as well as a lazy process for unloading wood. You kind find this in his response below. Comical. read more

I wish there was -1. Personal refused to help period. They were too busy to talk. Usually visit Redmond one for small and good selection and great people working there. Dunn lumber has changed. For the better! Still spendy, but now has lots more new and innovative products for the home! I really enjoy going there. The problem is with checking out. Some of those guys at the desk just act like you are bothering them. Are not friendly and are way too serious. You have to take a number instead of being able to pick the person who you want to check out with. You just pray that you don't get the mean gruff one. read more

After having account and using store for at least last 6 years I finally decided to look for another place. Every house I am working on - always some mistakes /f..ups and not even "sorry". "OK. come back and will fix it" - that is the most you will get. What about my time, gas...? We are not building a lot just 2-3 custom homes in a year, so obviously such a big company don't mind loosing accounts. If you are looking for a place to buy trim or doors-for your projects - skip this one! read more

Dunn Lumber is one of the most insidious companies I have ever come across the displeasure of being eegen adkecently associated with. I cannot believe the absolute disrespect that I have witnessed toward the employees which occurs at this establishment. My boyfriends brother was fired after no more than two months at MAX for dropping an unreasonably sized piece of lumber in front of the manager, after being fed propaganda about this business for weeks. This is not unlike many business practices, especially in Bellevue, but the disparaging cloud of disappointment is omnipresent in my household, and I cannot believe the lack of consideration, the dehumanization, and lack of understanding that this company has shown. Please do not support this company. read more

There just isn't words enough to say how much we appreciate the staff at Dunn Lumber in Kirkland. We had a very difficult situation matching some older decking material. They took so much time with us while we searched for just the right material. They came out to our house to help. Every person we spoke with was helpful, patient, knowledgable, and thoughtful. We were not easy customers to please, yet we know we are appreciated and are welcome back. I recommend them above any other business when looking for what you need and getting the best service when working with them. Thank you Dunn Lumber! read more

They have what I need for home projects, including delivery. This time it's treated lumber for a retaining wall and a new fence in my backyard. Soon it will be something else. I've been coming here for years and I'm always able to get what I need, including good advice. These guys really know what they're doing. read more

Hello. I just want to inform everyone that there are people working in this store who are really racist or something like that. I wanted to make a payment over the phone with my own business card that one of my employees had and they refused to take the payment. Because they were accusing me of doing fraud, I have more than 10 years with the account and nothing like that had ever happened to me, I begged this person to sell me this material since I needed it the same day. I was not reasonable because I had to go to Port Orchard, this employee left with his manager and he did not want to speak to me, he only told me that his session was taken and he did not speak to me anymore, he was named by Chris Cotton manager this person should not be a manager read more

Ordered some doors from Dunn Lumber Kirkland and I was gonna pick them up from the store. I could not arrange a transport last minute and needed the doors ASAP. Bernie, one of the sales person stepped in, he said he is getting off his shift soon and offered to drop them in his personal van to my house for no charge at all! And he did! It would have taken me a week or two if I had them scheduled for a delivery. What a kind gentleman, would always go back just because I know people like him work there. read more

Great customer service at this Dunn Lumber location! I walked in and was helped right away. The clerk was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the differences between the products I was looking at. He even took me to the back where they keep all the lumber and showed me all the different types of wood grain to make sure I got the exact match I needed for my project. The warehouse clerk loaded all the wood and even helped me tie it down with the straps I didn't know how to work. The only thing that was disappointing was they didn't have all the lumber I needed in stock. read more

We have used Dunn for a number of projects and will use them again in the future. They were a little more expensive than Home Depot, but their quality is much better. We were building a large cedar desk (1200') and because of the better quality, we were able to go with only 10% waste, as compared with previous purchases at Home Depot where we needed up to 25% waste. Also, the Dunn delivery (still $20) was quick and they did a great job. So the slightly higher cost easily paid for itself in quality and service. Note that I had multiple pallets and wanted them stacked with the first-used materials on top. The delivery team shuffled the pallets just how I wanted them without question or hesitation. read more

My go-to neighborhood hardware story. You get a lot of 1:1 time with them. Better than Home Depot.

Every time I go to Dunn Lumber with a project in mind, they either help me find all the tools necessary, or are able to help me find the right keywords to look for when searching online for a specialty part. I am also impressed that they allow their employees to sit down at the registers to avoid long-term stress on the body. I wish more retail places did that. read more

I've been going to Dunn Lumber for over 22 years and can say without a doubt this is one of my favorite lumber stores in the Seattle area. Being a past General Contractor I know how important quality of products, the customer experience, discounts you receive when buying large amount of materials and most of all the knowledgeable staff at each location. The lumber you buy is true, clean and good quality which is important when doing home project or even construction projects. Dunn Lumber doesn't nickel and dime you and understands loyalty, good customer service and having qualified professionals giving you sound advise on your projects. As a past General Contractor I highly recommend Dunn Lumber for your home and construction needs no matter if your're a home owner, business owner or just want to do some simple home projects. read more

6 guys standing around. They ignored me -the only customer. I walked into the warehouse to serve myself and the kid in back stopped bounding his ball long enough to look at me a sec and went back to bouncing. The old lady after me got help, but left without buying anything. I took my material list out, and that was it. I'll get my materials somewhere else. I had been a customer since the 60's. EDIT: It is July 2016 and I have not bought a thing from Dunn since, FWIW. read more

I've been buying lumber here for like 30 years. A long time ago it was cash, only. Fortunately they have kept with the times and accept debit cards. This is not a warehouse store, so you don't shop in the back. Go up to the counter with a list or a project in mind and they will gladly help you. They are comparable in price with the big box stores and have a lot of items you can't find elsewhere. read more

Super helpful and considerate. Went above and beyond to help me with my small project. Bernie was great!

Im tired of getting poor quality wood here. As a homeowner buying just a couple boards I always get stuck with cracked, knotted, bowed boards. Not because they aren't willing to let me look through the wood but because they clearly don't throw anything out and of the loose boards available to select from they've all clearly been picked through ten times over. Dunn, please start a procedure in which you go through the your stock and remove poor quality wood that's been picked through. It's quite annoying to pay for wood up front only to go in the back and be dissatisfied with what you have the pick from. read more

Three years ago, I detailed out exactly what I needed to mount a strange back-of-TV configuration. The screws had been stripped, so I needed to figure it out. I figured out a 1x2 first, then flush bottom, a 1x3 over that. It created a track like a coat hook. I had all my size configurations and went to Home Depot to get everything. I asked an employee about glue and other supplies. The guy looked at my drawings and said it would never work. So he revamped it and sold me $90 worth of product. I get that home and start doing it. Only to find that he hadn't understood at all what I needed. Next stop Dunn Lumber. The manager there was awesome. He understood that HD had been a cause of confusion for me. So he showed me, using product, how MY drawings would come together and physically showed me that it would work. Then he showed me the final result of how HE would build it. It was a much better design and I went with his suggestions. Total bill? $39. Love Dunn Lumber. Now I only wish they'd add more home improvement product! read more

I only use lumber for some home wood projects. Dunn's is a bit further down the road from my house than Home Depot and McLendon but I'm not starting to take the extra time to go there when I need something other than 2x4's. I have been to Dunn's twice in the last year when I couldn't find the lumber I needed at Home Depot. Both times they were very helpful, had the wood I needed, and cut it quickly to the size I asked for so I could fit them in my truck. I recently purchased some 1x4's and 1x6's in pine. They cut them quickly and loaded in the truck. All pieces were straight and made my project much easier. Now, compare that to home depot, Their 1x4's are so crooked I couldn't use them, and trying to track someone down in the store to cut them is a nightmare. If you want some customer service and better lumber than home depot, give Dunn's a shot. read more

Visited Dunn Lumber in Kirkland today because the store closer to us was closed. Needed fascia material for deck project and only Dunn had the materials we needed as none of the big DIY stores had what we needed in stock. Although we came expecting to be able to only afford the lowest grade material, we left with our first choice for about the same cost! This was due to the excellent customer service by Abby who pointed us to a clearance on the product we wanted but had not known was on clearance! Not only did she save us a ton on costs, she stayed after closing to personally load the heavy/wet product on top of our car!! We were blown away by the service and selection and will shop here first from now on! read more

Building a school by here and, when we are in a pinch, they have what we need. We usually pick it up in around 20 minutes and its ready to go. Never had a problem with getting the correct material. 1 star off for their customer service, but hey, this place isn't P.F. Changs, so I don't expect 3 perky girls attending my every need (sorry Johnny ;). read more

I love being able to run in and run out without having to a big box store. I find the staff very helpful and haven't seen the issues a couple people posted about. Just bought some plywood there. Asked them to cut it for me to fit into my car. Since they were cutting it, they chose the plywood sheets themselves rather than letting me choose them. Not only did they cut them wrong, they chose sheets of plywood that were quite defective, and then proceeded to tell me too bad, thats just how it is and you can't change it because they are cut. Then to top it all off, one of the kids came out to load my car and proceeded to shove a piece that i told him was too big to fit, into my car despite my protestations. I told him that it wouldn't go and he should cut it as I had originally requested. Instead he said "I'm going to make it fit" and then shoved it into my car, gauging all the interior on the way in. This was a brand new car that now has huge gauges on the sides top and bottom thanks to this careless kid who just wanted to get it done so he could go hang out with his buddies who were standing there waiting for him to be done. Never again Dunn Lumber. Your prices are way too high Your wood is the same (if not worse) quality than Home Depot Your kids don't listen to your customers Your employee damaged my car. ================== **** UPDATE: Dunn Lumber has contacted me and appears to be working to resolve my issues. I will update this review once an outcome has been reached. ================== read more

I went in looking for a piece of plywood for an art project I'm working on, knowing next to nothing about lumber.
