I went back to Chinook about 6 months ago, out of convenience, and Gary Luck won me over. An update of my review is overdue and well deserved. I've returned several times since and have found their prices for very small quantities often match the contractor or bulk pricing at Home Depot. I framed out an awning project over several weekends and saved probably 2-4 hours of drive time over my usual half dozen trips to HD :) I have to say It's extra nice to have everything brought directly to my vehicle on a fork and then to have smiling help loading every single time even in the pouring rain. All this compared to the alternative at either big box store where I'm stuck asking around, maybe getting begrudging help if at all... We chose Chinook Lumber expecting a reputable local company. While initial communication was responsive, the experience after installation has been deeply disappointing. Within a short time of our deck being completed (June 2024), boards along the center divide--added at Chinook's recommendation--as well as at the ends began lifting. This has created an uneven surface and a clear tripping hazard. The decking is also starting to "dish," raising concerns about the quality of the installation and its durability. What's been most frustrating is how this has been handled. Follow-up has been slow, timelines have been vague, and there has been little urgency despite the safety concern. The proposed fixes feel like temporary workarounds rather than a proper solution. We approached this in good faith, but there's a reasonable expectation that a company stands behind its work when something goes wrong. That has not been our experience. At this point, we are seeking an independent third-party inspection to determine responsibility before proceeding further, which is not a step we expected to have to take. It's disappointing to write this, because we truly wanted this project to go well. But based on our experience, I would urge others to carefully consider not just the installation itself, but the level of support and accountability you may receive afterward. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I have been sitting here on a hot day waiting for a large order that was supposed to have been ready and waiting at the beginning of the day. It's 4:04 pm and the yard guys or whatever they are called have been scrambling to put this order together for over 30 min. I know nothing about lumbar as law is what I practice however I do know that when an order is supposed to be at will call at a certain time, and we arrive late in the day that's wrong. Not one person has apologized we have 2 dogs in a hot work van and the person who approached actually implied that my boyfriend was supposed to have retrieved the items located inside the store. Today I experienced one of your Truck drivers driving recklessly and nearly hitting me. At 12:07 today April 19, 2024, License C404 93R. I was driving north on Highway nine right after the intersection of Marsh Road where the highway merges to one lane. I let two cars go in front of me with the flow of traffic. We were past the merging lane point when your truck driver flies up on my right hand side nearly hitting me. I was forced to slam on my brakes to avoid being hit, or go into oncoming traffic. I honked my horn to alert the driver that he was about to hit me, and he flew up an obscene gesture flipping me off in front of my small children. He continued to cut me off forcing me to stop the flow of traffic.I live Minutes from where this happened. I see accidents happen on Highway 9 all the time. It is very upsetting and concerning to see a local business with drivers drive so recklessly and aggressively. I can see from your reviews there have been other incidents with your truck drivers driving recklessly. I like to weed out the BS and leave the big stores behind- they don't have the expertise or the knowhow to help a skilled craftsman with his duties. I've been kicking around for some time, but the way these boys carry themselves... well I just haven't seen such dedication to service like this in a very long time. I really do hope everyone that is thinking about going to Lowes or Homedepot makes a better choice and visits Chinook Lumber. Prices might be a tad bit higher, but with the extra things like their knowledge of building systems and materials, and they are always willing to help. This place takes no accountability. One their inexperienced workers dropped a 16ft pool on the roof of my truck leaving a huge dent (mind you I had fabric down so it wouldn't leave marks and would provide cushion) because he was too fucking lazy to do it right. I have been dealing with heavy equipment my whole life and when I told them manager what he did and how he did it he didn't give a shit. I had sent in pictures and times like they had asked and they didn't want to to anything about it. I Have been working with the people from Chinook for years. I have had nothing but great experiences with them. Rob, Karen, Kurtis, Felix and John. They have always been very helpful in any way I could imagine. The guys in the yard always helped me load the material on my truck with a positive attitude. This is the most disreputable business I've dealt with. Placed two orders over the phone. They never sent an email receipt or provided me one when at their store. Received wrong parts twice (they incorrectly ordered twice) for which I made returns for credit for in store. They provided me with a credit receipt but after many weeks they still have not refunded my money for either transaction. They state that only one person does the returns and credit but when I call I get voice mail and they never call me back. When I go to the store the return person is never there. I will never do business with Chinook Lumber again! read more

The Store manager at the highway 9 store does not give a damn about service or customers. I ordered lumber that was delivered but was warped and cracked, so I rejected it. The Store manager called me (after I went back to the store to find a solution) to tell me that he would send me pictures of some lumber they had in the warehouse, but he never sent the pictures nor did he call back at all. Since then (3 weeks) I have been trying to get in contact with Rob, the store manager, and he will not return my messages or calls. I have left messages with Lisa and Larry, have gone to their store once after not getting a call back just to be told that Rob is in a meeting and they can't help me. I would love to support local business, but having a store manager that does not return calls after leaving 4 messages just plain sounds or seems to be that there is no concern for customers. Unfortunately I have had a less than positive experience at Chinook. I had $4,000 worth of materials delivered to my home. Half of my fence boards had been back ordered with absolutely zero notice to me. The back ordered materials were then delivered two days later than promised. When the fence was finally finished, I had several hundred dollars worth of materials to return. I am still waiting for my refund a week later. I am extremely disappointed in Chinook Lumber's customer service. The sales personnel is arrogant and hard to get in touch with. I have lived in the Maltby/Clearview area for 30+ years and was really looking forward to supporting a local business in my home town. A great place. This is geared for the contractor, it seems to me, but they are just fine for me as a home handyman and quite helpful even without asking. They have just about everything needed and the prices are good. I recently made a large purchase of Timbertech decking. When I brought back some leftovers the Chinook crew started measuring the boards. They were slightly under the listed dimensions of 12' or 16'. The boards were about 15' 11-3/4". They accused me of cutting the boards and were threatening not to take them back. By the way none of the Timbertech decking I received from Chinook was as long as the listed dimensions. They were all just shy forcing me to waste a board when I needed to cut 6' lengths. Later I called and talked to the store manager. His attitude was ho hum we have to measure stuff people bring back, although they did not measure the 2x6's I brought back.
