I have read too many excruciatingly negative reviews about this company. As our family's financial situation gets worse, along with the economy, corporations are seemingly attempting to maximize their profits by increasing cost to the consumers. We see it in every aspect of our lives. Anyway, those of you that follow me, know that I report the whole truth about my experiences (good or bad), which in turn gives businesses the opportunity to take applications steps to improve relationships with the public. Suburban Propane is facing, not only public outrage but, class action lawsuits regarding overpricing, fraudulent practices, lack of communication, and poor customer service. I received a bill on 7/24/24 for propane priced at $8.099 a gallon! That's almost twice the price of the listed price by the EIA (Energy Information Administration). This has been an ongoing nightmare for many US citizens trapped within the market with tank rentals and few alternative providers. Not to mention the cost of changing or replacing equipment for electricity. Enough ranting, but I feel this is an important educational opportunity for all of you that have been feeling abandoned. Today I called (800) 776-7263, which is the corporate 24/7 service line. Angela was extremely polite and very respectful. All I said was that I received a bill that was too high and and she placed me on hold for about 2 minutes. When she returned she lowered my price per gallon to just above $6.00 a gallon! She then stated she would review our family's account for average usage and would see how they could adjust accordingly in the future. This type of interaction is very rare in our current economy. I would like to offer, at this time, maybe Suburban Propane is changing their practices. If you are a current customer I would recommend questioning your next bill if it seems unreasonable. This local company in clearwater are ripoff artists at best. They just charged me 7.46 / gal - Amerigas and Ferrell Gas are 3.54/ gal. They are charging more than double. Also when I first turned on my pool heater I smelled gas which is normal but I wanted to check and they said it was normal but they needed to send someone out. I said no need but they said it is their policy to do this. Then they charged me 150.00 for someone to come out and literally stand there and smell for gas. There are much better options read more

This company is CRIMINAL. Purchased a home, and they did not notify us of service transfer and shut off our tank. Then said they had to charge $150 for an inspect of the tank to turn it back on.. technician arrived 3 weeks later (also you have to be home and they wont give you a time so you need to ask off work) and he performs $500 worth of services without consent. read more

Second time I have sat at home all day and they were a no show. Called the Bellair office at 4:45pm and when I asked the woman who answered if they were still delivering she replied "more than likely". When I repeated "more than likely?" she said well possibly. Now it is Saturday and I wait until Monday to start this process all over. I am not a happy customer and completely understand why their rating is so low. read more

Been a customer for 33yrs, and as always Suburban took great care of me. Called Suburban to install a gas range and convert it to LP. They showed up in the middle of the time frame I was given, and I got a email about 20min before the tech arrived. They got the stove converted over did a inspection made sure the tanks where good. While the tech was testing the stove he didn't like the way one of the burners was flaming so he made some adjustments and got me going. read more

They told me there would be a minimum monthly charge for gas on top of my tank rental fee... I agreed... the first time they came to fill it they left a bill for the minimum amount but didn't add any gas... I asked why, and the young lady told me that was the minimum charge... I explained to her how a minimum works, and that if they fill it and it doesn't take the minimum amount I am still required to pay the minimum $ but it doesn't mean I pay without receiving anything... well they filled it the next day, and the total gas was just above the minimum... When I finally got rid of Suburban I was told the tank would be removed within 2 weeks... 6 weeks later I call again, and this time they did pick it up within the next 2 weeks... read more

We had Suburban about 4 years for our pool heater that we rarely use (it's FL), and a fireplace we've recently replaced with electric. So the $70 fee to top off the tank (?) every 3 months was a waste. They sent a guy, who quickly assesed that he could not move the tank himself, he would need another guy. After 2 weeks and 6 phone calls to customer service, they sent another guy. This guy said it required two guys...and a forklift! They were nice enough to attempt to cover the yaw marks they made in my grass, so they were OK. Now, I've been told that we were charged $375 for Mr. Forklift. Not only are they keeping all the $330 (refund) for the gas, but they want us to pay $45.00. They never said there would be a fee. It was never discussed, authorized or agreed to. They had the ability to backfill the gas to lighten the tank to move it, it was their decision to incur this charge, obviously because they had no intention of paying it. Days later, we are still waiting on a call back, but hope is depleteing like the chances of them getting that $45 bucks. Avoid this company. They may sell you a dream on the front end, but it's nothing but a gassy nightmare! read more

Shady! I don't know what's going on with this company, but they have become unbelievably shady over the last year or so. Tank #1. First small tank was on the property when I bought the house, 15 years ago. It was connected to a fireplace (mostly decorative) but it was nice having some ambiance and a little heat for the couple weeks each year when the temperature dips into the 40's. I paid a quarterly tank rental fee of $15 for this tank. We had it filled every other year due to little usage and this arrangement went on for 15 years. One day I was out in the backyard and noticed the tank was gone. The copper tube was cut and bent and the tank was just GONE! I was alarmed and called Suburban to make sure it wasn't stolen and to see why it was removed. There was no communication - no letter - no phone call - just GONE. They said that I was behind on my bill. I checked their latest statement and indeed I owed them $14.00. I asked if they would credit me for the $200.00 worth of propane that I had ordered, just 4-5 months before (we used the fireplace 1-2 times that winter). Apparently the driver reported that the tank was empty. Wow. OK. With no way to prove otherwise, what am I supposed to do? Plus, after 15 years, why are you taking the tank over a $14.00 "past due" bill. I was told by the Manager that they are a "for profit" business and they could use the tank somewhere else that they could actually make money. Again, WOW! I guess, I just figured if I've been paying you about $60 per year, for the last 15 years, for the tank rental and an occasional fill up, that you would at least notify me if you wanted your tank back. Allow me to verify how much propane was in the tank and maybe even perhaps buy some more propane if that's what it takes to keep your precious tank. The lady was extremely rude and unprofessional and the call went nowhere. At this point, I'd probably tell them to take both of their tanks and shove it you know where, but... I have a 2nd larger tank on my property for the pool heater. I'm reluctant to get rid of this one, because I paid them about $800 to install the tank and hook it up to the heater. Tank #2 - I still have this tank on my property. We use it for the hot tub. We don't use the hot tub all that much, but we'd probably end up filling the tank once every year or so. For the last 15 years, the procedure is: a. You need gas, you call to place an order for a delivery b. They give you an estimate and they deliver the following week. c. You leave a check on the tank and the driver picks it up. So, in February I get a statement from Suburban Propane for $300. It's from a propane delivery in December. I'm shocked, because I haven't ordered propane in probably a year. Last time I check, I still had plenty of gas in the tank. I checked the tank and it looks like they added some propane, but I never ordered it and I have no way of verifying how much they added or when. They just decided to come by my property and fill up my tank and charge me $300. Unbelievable! Of course, I'll pay it when I can, but I find it completely unprofessional that this company makes their own rules, whenever they see fit, to get money out of their customers. Stay far away from this shady business!! I was already looking for alternatives, but it appears I'll need to hasten this effort, due to their unprofessional business practices. read more

I've never had a problem with my service or customer service. I had two leaks with my equipment after I notified them about a gas smell and they came out the next day to repair the leaks at no charge. I'm getting my tank filled and they will credit me with loss based on my usage over the years. Mark is the employee who worked with me to resolve the issue and he provided excellent customer service. Very disappointed in their current pricing $5.63/gal on delivered propane. Feel gouged. With the current availability of propane price should be much lower. Local competitor I checked with priced more than a $dollar less per gallon. I'm going to switch my account. read more

The worst!!! I am a renter and I was unaware that I had to make sure my tank got filled. So I called the person who owned the take to get refilled (suburban propane). So I called and talked with mark (I think his name was) and he was nothing but rude to me. They won't work with you about payment or anything. When I called back to get it set up and bit the bullet I asked when they would be able to fill it. 3 weeks he tells me... 3 weeks knowing I am out of gas. He wanted me to sign a contract and then wait 3 weeks for gas. No way!! I went with a better gas company that had it to me in 2 days!! Never Never use this company. I have been a customer for over 20 years and they can't get my phone number correct. The tank that we have received a few months earlier had a leak. What did I do called to see that the issue was when the tank was emptied. What did I find out we could have died. They said leave the house now. After replacing the tank we were never notified of the issue or what caused the tank to leak. Maybe this is due to the fact that you have never entered my phone number in every year I called to have the tank refilled. Every time they would ask is this your phone number why no it is not please change it. Really its not that simple. SHADY SHADY SHADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I have to pay a bill for what I don't know. They did care enough to tell me what caused the issue. If I were you I would never use this company ever. First they said we could have died. Then they never told us what the issue was. Then I get a bill for something that I'm not convinced what our issue.
