Specifically, that includes Xavier in sales, Ben the controller, Nicole in permitting and Haley in accounting. In the end, they didn't actually install propane tanks for me due to unexpected circumstances, but they persevered with me through several months of challenges (on my end, not theirs) and took care of me well. As soon as Xavier came to the house, I was impressed with him and with Propane Ninja. He was totally honest, provided expert guidance and did not try to talk me into anything. I paid an initial deposit of 50% of the contract price (standard practice), and then they pursued getting the permit from the City of Tampa. That turned out to be quite a challenge, due to the unique situation with my lot and the desired location of the tanks and generator (another company was handling the generator installation). The reason I needed a backup generator was due to my wife's serious health issues. In the process of me pursuing a "design exception" with the City of Tampa in order to try to get the permits approved, my wife unexpectedly passed away. And then I really didn't have a pressing need for a backup generator. Propane Ninja was gracious enough to agree to refund the full deposit I had paid them. Well, it turned out to be quite a challenge in order to actually make that happen, not because of any problem on their end, but again, on mine. Basically, it had to do with the bank I had used to make the initial deposit and the bank's system not allowing a refund to come back into the account. But then "superhero" (as far as I'm concerned) Ben, the controller at Propane Ninja, jumped into the ring, and after trying multiple ways to get the refund processed, was ultimately able to make it happen! I can't say enough positive about the folks at Propane Ninja. There just aren't very many companies like this anymore, sadly, that take the kind of personal interest they do and have the willingness to persevere through every challenge in order to make sure the customer is taken care of.

The reason I choice Propane Ninja was because they have their own meter monitor the propane gas tank. They have better rating then their competition and I don't need to worry about looking at the meter each week. Scheduling a delivery is automated. In addition, using their app I can see the % of gas remaining in the tank and because I know the gas level, I can be assured there are no leaks and if there are they will fix it as part of their small monthly fee.

Our normal fill company was eight days out, so I began calling every place around Pinellas county, and south to Sarasota. Sunrise not only said they'd fit me in, but for a trivial $75 off-route fee, they could come the next morning instead of waiting a couple days for their normal weekly visit to my area. They showed up right on time and took care of everything; even swapped out my foggy tank gauge so I could see what percentage I was at, which I'd been unable to do for a few years. Five more days on generator and I was ready for a top off the following week, they were back out again on the normal day while everyone else was still a week or more out from being able to get me. The rate per gallon was a bit higher than market, but hard to complain about that when everyone was a week or more out from even being able to service my house.

Anyway, those of you that follow me, know that I report the whole truth about my experiences (good or bad), which in turn gives businesses the opportunity to take applications steps to improve relationships with the public. Suburban Propane is facing, not only public outrage but, class action lawsuits regarding overpricing, fraudulent practices, lack of communication, and poor customer service. I received a bill on 7/24/24 for propane priced at $8.099 a gallon! That's almost twice the price of the listed price by the EIA (Energy Information Administration). This has been an ongoing nightmare for many US citizens trapped within the market with tank rentals and few alternative providers. Not to mention the cost of changing or replacing equipment for electricity. Enough ranting, but I feel this is an important educational opportunity for all of you that have been feeling abandoned. Today I called (800) 776-7263, which is the corporate 24/7 service line. Angela was extremely polite and very respectful. All I said was that I received a bill that was too high and and she placed me on hold for about 2 minutes. When she returned she lowered my price per gallon to just above $6.00 a gallon! She then stated she would review our family's account for average usage and would see how they could adjust accordingly in the future. This type of interaction is very rare in our current economy. I would like to offer, at this time, maybe Suburban Propane is changing their practices. If you are a current customer I would recommend questioning your next bill if it seems unreasonable. We also grabbed a lock, blankets and some of the green wrap they had there. We were in and out within 10 minutes. This location seems very big, they sell all kinds of packing accessories inside, such as boxes, blankets, straps, ropes, locks, wraps and a lot more. Prices were normal, not expensive. Actually I checked if Home Depot sold some of the things we needed and at this uhaul location it was cheaper by a few bucks.

Communicating with this company is an endurance event. I've called for both routine refills and…read moreemergency refills, and each time the response clock seemed to run on "Suburban Time", about seven hours minimum. Most recently, I'll admit I missed checking the tank (apparently we've been very enthusiastic gas users). So I called Suburban Propane to schedule a refill. The automated system told me the wait would be 30 minutes, so I requested a callback at 5:30 PM. That callback came... at 10:30 AM the next day. So much for urgency. Ironically, the only way I managed to get someone out within seven hours of my original call was by reporting a gas leak. That's not a workaround customers should have to discover. They proudly advertise customer service and satisfaction, but my experience reflects the opposite, slow responses, poor communication, and urgency only when safety is on the line. If reliability matters to you, I'd strongly recommend steering clear of this company. ***UPDATE*** Want to make it abundantly clear that the actual service team, "Jeffrey and Braleo" were excellent, and the reason I changed the rating from one star to three.

They said they delivered two tanks in November, charged us for two, but we only received one. We had to order another one in January (per our normal usage of one tank every two months). They will not fix their mistake. They also often push us out from our original delivery date and you just have to hope you don't run out of propane. We will be going elsewhere for our propane needs!
