We haven't dined here for a few years. Our last experience wasn't great. We usually stopped once a week and the food was good. The pizzas and subs were good but maybe that day was not a good day to dine there. We decided to give it another chance, the lunch special was a hit for my wife. We ordered DoorDash and everything was soggy...Over $100 wasted for a few subs and fries!??? Felt that one. The cheesesteak sub was so messy and gross (it was supposed to be toasted but they can't follow directions) it just fell apart and I angrily gave up and threw it in the trash where it belongs. The Italian was the same way. Everyone agreed we won't be ordering from here EVER again! Archers has a way better cheesesteak, please go there instead. It's also much more affordable. Not good at all. The food is not anywhere to quality it used to be. It is a shame to see all the negative reviews and the family doesn't want to fix problems with the business. I always made a point to eat a submarine sub once a week, but once a year reminds me why I don't continue the ritual. Cooks complained about making pizza without burning it, shame on you. Pizza sauce is bland. Waitress was polite and understood we wanted GREAT food. Good would be OK, but that just cooked happen at this location. Decent bar spot for a sandwich and fries. Waitresses are friendly and attentive, bar service is also quick and friendly. The house sauce they put on their sandwiches definitely makes the sandwich. The experience was awful from start to finish. My grandpa's cheesesteak was spicy when it shouldn't have been, and when the server brought a smaller replacement, they still charged us for the big one. The service was slow and careless. The atmosphere was terrible too--music was blasting so loud all you could hear was "boom boom," making it impossible to talk or relax. Definitely not coming back. Wow. I'm really surprised at how far down Submarine House has fallen. I grew up eating these subs on Brown Street by UD. They were, by far, the best subs in town. They are no longer even in the running. We have been to this location a few times. And as I checked into Yelp, I wasn't surprised to see the 3 star rating. It's just not good anymore. The service is fine. No complaints really. It took a little long to get a great at the bar but we were not pressed on that. The food though. I'm pretty upset at how weak it was. The fries were extremely salty. But the worst part was that we barely even had any ingredients on our sub. We ordered a full cheese steak without the works (I don't like that extra stuff on my meat and cheese lol). Look at the picture I took of the small slab of meat they put on that bun. It didn't even spread out to the end of the bread. Super disappointed. And this isn't even the first time they have done this. We are not coming back to this location unless one of our friends really wants to. read more

Lunch while visiting my guys hometown of Dayton. Was surprisingly good. Got to watch locals root for Ohio State football was the best...while I had a mild heart attack as the Longhorns barely closed out the win. Staff was great and attentive, which is a miracle given the game. We recommend, its definitely a vibe when you can catch a game there. read more

Absolute worst service. Denied me pick up for my food as I'm on the phone with door dash and have waited an hour with still no food with it sitting ready in the kitchen. I let them know on the phone I would bring ID to receive my food as door dash would be another 30 minutes and my food would be cold. She turned me away at the door unwilling to talk to the door dash support I had ON THE PHONE. I work as a restaurant manager and I would never in my life treat a PAYING guest this way. Save your money go to a different location this one is ran terribly. UPDATE: After contacting door dash for my refund I drove to their Kettering Location and they took FABULOUS care of me! Stopped here on our way home (during COVID) to grab some sandwiches. Had heard that this was a nice place to grab sandwiches and wanted to check it out. They had us order at the door and then stand outside until our meal was ready. Fast, friendly service. Nice bread, good meat and fresh vegetables. Had a gyro and fries. Both were good. The atmosphere was good with a number of big screens. When I walked in I asked the hostess if I could eat at the bar. She said yes, if you eat there we won't have to kick you out. This was at 5:15 pm. I asked about the kicking out and she said every Monday and Thursday they are reservations only for a trivia night (so probably regulars only) that starts at 7:00 pm. Probably not a good destination after 6:00 pm on Monday or Thursday and definitely not for M/T night football. read more

So it's been a long time since I've been to the Submarine House. I used to work down off South Dixie and they had a small store right by the bowling alley. I'd go down there a few nights a minute the phone book had coupons for bogof and that was a pretty big deal back then... Boy, times have changed. It's used to be like a deli shop and now it's a full time bar/restaurant. It's a lovely place, warm and welcoming and the bar seems pretty nice. Our server was super nice, attentive and checked on us often. They have plastic walls hanging between tables and I watched them wipe the tables, seats and menus down with liberal spray of 409 so that was nice to see. The food, I ordered the original gyro, it was ok... there was more fresh onion that meat so that was a bit overpowering. The lovely Mrs had chicken tacos of some sort and they were delicious. They were having a trivia night tonight(Thursday) but not too sure if it is a weekly thing but it was fun. read more

I came up here to help out some of my coworkers take care of some things and just had this place for lunch and just had the cheese steak sandwich with a house pizza and the food was good but the sandwich's were the best that I have had in a long time and the spicy sauce that was on it was PERFECT it had the best spice and a sweet taste as well. This place has been at their new location for quite a while now but I haven't felt compelled to try them until now. It sounds like I had the same experience most other have. Poor service, mediocre food, and dull atmosphere. The beer selection is average. I got a Warped Wing Flyer Red and it tasted like maybe their lines need to be cleaned. They had a special that day. All craft beers were $3.75. The Flyer Red tasted odd to me so i ordered a Branch and Bone. Oddly enough that one didnt qualify as a craft beer special. When i asked why she said it was because it was served in a 10 oz tulip. OK??? A craft pint is 16 oz. I get six ounces less beer and it also doesn't qualify for the special so its SIX DOLLARS?? Whatever. I paid it knowing I was leaving. The menu is very confusing. Everything is called a SUPER DOUBLE something or other. It's only when you notice the fine print that you can get a regular sandwich or double the meat. Being the first time here I ordered the regular but when my sandwich came I realized double is probably everyone else's normal. This thing was sad, well except for that relish. I really liked the relish. Subway has this place blown away and I dont care that much for Subway. You call yourself a submarine house and serve up low quality cuts and in miniscule portions? I've been here 3 or 4 times, and always enjoyed it. Their subs are good, but I feel like unless you order a "Super" they really skimp on the meat. A super looks like 4 times the meat to me than a non-super. Service on the bar side has always been good, restaurant side has been "eh". Beer is always good and cold, but I wish they had paper beer menus. Trying to read from the screen across the room is silly. Prices are very reasonable, and their daily specials are usually good on beer. Definitely a place I'll continue visiting. read more

Unlike Daytonians, born and raised, on Submarine House...I'm an out of stater that took forever to try it. I tried it 2yrs ago, and have since, made repeat visits for both dine-in and carry out. I quickly found out, after just 2-3 repeat sub orders...that really ANY sub offered to be made and upgraded to "super", should, in fact. Be MADE and UPGRADED to "super". Anything less, is mainly just bread. I'm not even a big meat/cheese person, BUT, if on a rare occasion, I'm craving a sub or sandwich, I do expect to get and taste, both, meat & cheese. That being said, "super" is the way to go...it's pretty much the equivalent to an average amount of fillings within a sub, elsewhere. It costs extra, which can QUICKLY add up. The teezers that I like to get on the side, are also a side cost, upgrade, but worth it.--They're like a hashbrown & jalapeño popper, combined. A hasbrown/popper baby, if you will. Lol. Great w sour cream or ranch! Tonight, I went with my boys. My youngest ordered a cheese pizza. My older son ordered the chicken tenders. Neither were things to write home about, but they wanted to try something different, tonight. Their orders were what to be expected, so, no complaints. Service is always good, even when they're busy or short staffed. All in all, I do enjoy Submarine House, from time to time. The subs are the way to go...but again, ONLY super! This place is a staple for my family! The subs are by far the best around. They are grilled with fresh bread and quality ingredients. The kitchen chips and the little jalapeño bites are so tasty! I usually order the cheesesteak with 'the works.' The spicy relish that comes on the sun is interesting and delicious. They actually sell it in house, too. They have a sub eating challenge for the competition eaters out there. :) They offer a free kids meal during certain hours, too. We ordered the "super" sandwiches which are supposed to be extra meat. Very disappointing! 2 slices of ham instead of 1...big shit. Doesn't anyone know how to make a good sandwich anymore? I'm up here about 3 to 4 nights out of the week so I'm not to familiar with Dayton area sub shops but this is the best I've had so far. We went in at 7 p.m. on a Tuesday. By 8 p.m., our food for the 5 kids in our party had still not arrived. My husband was complaining to the manager, and they began yelling at him, and then asked my friend and I, and our kids, to leave. They wanted US to LEAVE after my kids had already waited an HOUR for their food. Then some guy that works in the back comes out and tells me he is sending the police to our house for not paying for FOOD WE NEVER RECEIVED!!! When I told him that, he rebutted with we didn't pay for our drinks. We had ordered WATER! I will never again go to this place for any type of meal, especially after I saw one of the kitchen employees spitting into a cup in the back. Disgusting service and hygiene!!!
