TLDR: We've interacted with a lot of contractors (15+) and worked with 5 since our tree fell 2 years ago and Jacob's been the best because of his clear, direct communication, promptness, quick work, knowledge of his craft, informative quoting and overall good vibe. If you have a stump that needs grinding, Jacob at Stump Grinding Northwest is your guy! I started a project on Yelp on 5/2/26 by requesting a quote from sno-king stump grinding (no response). Yelp offers a way to send the same project to multiple businesses, and I'm lucky it does! Jacob, at Stump Grinding Northwest, was quick to respond on Yelp (5/3/26) and by text after I sent him my information. He set expectations up clearly that he'd try to make room to stop by for a free estimate the same week and would let me know 1-3 days in advance. He also informed us that he typically gets the work done the same day if the quote is accepted - nice! I heard from Jacob on Wednesday, 5/6/26, that he had space for our estimate the following day. He confirmed he'd be there in the morning and sent us an eta of 8:30 around 8:00. The quote was fair and he explained the reasons for the range. A little after starting the grinding, Jacob had me come down to look at the progress. He showed me the depth he was going to (~8in) and the massive, melon-sized, carbide teeth-breaking rocks he was dealing with in the earth. He passed along some info about stump grinding blades and then continued his work. We checked out the final product together around 10am, and he said he'd come back if we found any remaining stump not to our liking. Jacob said he'd send an invoice later that day with the charges. We chatted for a bit about trees, insurance, and home ownership; then he was on his way. Now I continue building out my garden on level ground! We had a great experience with Stump Grinding Northwest, and I bet you will too. read more

Jacob did a great job grinding two stumps in our yard. He was right on time, communicated the process clearly, and was personable to boot. Highly recommended. read more

Jacob did a fantastic job and made it easy to get some laurel stumps ground out in under an hour! He described the process well, quoted a fair price, and got it done. He even cleaned up the bits that landed on our walkway. Splendid job, would definitely hire again! read more

Stump Grinding NW was recommended by the arborist we hired to prune four large trees on our property. A good arborist knows all the other good people in the tree business, so we knew any referral from him would save us much time trying to sort through and choose between the over 100 stump grinding companies in our area of the PNW ourselves. Jacob's estimate was fair and he completed the project much faster than we anticipated. Afterwards he cleaned up the site and put our pavers back where they belonged. A job well done, and we would recommend his services to anyone. read more

I contacted Jacob to discuss removing 13 stumps from my backyard. 10 of the stumps showed signs of rot and he suggested they'd be easy to remove myself with a Mattock Axe. After he gave me a quote, he said "let me know if you are able to do it yourself!". With that encouragement I took my Mattock Axe and was able to *relatively* easily pry out 10 of those stumps on my own! (by no means was it "easy", it took a LOT of muscle, but doing it with no help was very satisfying) With only three left (the smaller ones), I was able to dig around the stump to a depth of about 12 inches, found the lateral roots, made quick work with a sawzall and chainsaw and was able to pry those suckers out too! Yes, it took me two days of backbreaking work. It would have been WAY easier to hire Jacob, and he was a super friendly dude that built trust and credibility within seconds. I told my wife "I'm going to try this, if not, I will hire Jacob!" Well, here I am with a stumpless yard, and it was only because Jacob gave me some tips (and confidence) to give it a try myself. That right there is gold. To pay it forward to him, I will always make referrals to Stump Grinding Northwest. Hopefully this Yelp review will help people understand that you are contacting a geniunely nice guy who cares about his potential customers outcomes. read more

Jacob got back to me right away after I called him. He kept me updated via text about his schedule and availability. He showed up when he said he would. He maneuvered his gear into our backyard and made quick work of our cherry tree stump. The spot where our stump used to be is now level dirt! I'd highly recommend using Stump Grinding NW whether you're in Seattle or on the Eastside. read more

Jacob at Stump Grinding NW was recommended to us by Bartlett Tree Experts, who no longer provide that service. Jacob came to our house to quote the job, which was right in line with what Bartlett charged for the same work we had done two years ago. And, since his equipment is already in the truck, he completed the work immediately - fast and efficient. We couldn't be happier and will be calling Jacob for any future stump grinding jobs we have. read more

I had a large stump and after doing some searching, found that this was the place to call. I contacted them via email late one evening and I was expecting a response at the earliest the next day. The owner reached out that night about hour later. He was going to be in the area the next day so offered to come by and provide an estimate. He ended up coming by and grinding my stump on the spot. I was impressed with his prompt communication and response. The price was a little more than I wanted to pay, but it was convenient to have the stump removed quickly read more

Jeff came over when he said he would, quoted, and completed the work the same day. He left a clean worksite and was very professional. His pricing was better than any other quotes we received and he was able to complete the work sooner than anyone else as well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to others. In addition, the stumps were very close to our fence and even though I told him we are replacing it soon and it didn't matter if it was damaged, he didn't leave a scratch on it. Thanks for the great work! read more

Jacob was extremely responsive and did excellent work. I initially texted to him on Saturday afternoon and he was out when he said he would be on Monday morning to give an estimated and then immediately removed the stump. He arrived around 11am and the stump was gone by noon. He contained the chips with plywood so there was very little mess left behind. read more

We recently had a Maple tree die, which was removed by Bartlett Tree Service, leaving a couple of stumps in a tight area surrounded by large rocks. Jacob reviewed the area, and scheduled the stump grinding shortly after the tree was removed and did an excellent job grinding the stump and cleaning up the area. The invoice came in less than the initial bid!! Now were ready to pant another tree close to the same site. read more

I could not have had a better experience. Great job. High integrity. The entire stump and roots are gone.

Responsive, quick and fair. I messaged Jeff using the Yelp ap. He replied within one business day and set an appointment to grind my stump. He had time, two days before our appointment and swung by to take a look, provide an estimate and do the work. I accepted the estimate, he did his thing and now I'm stump free! Jacob was efficient, competent, and a good communicator. Did a good job on 2 tree stumps in our yard. He is a good communicator.

I called them last week and came this week and completed the job efficiently. Fast! They were very pleasant, clear, overall wonderful to work with. I was able to hear them and converse effectively, and safely. I loved seeing their smiles, was better able to understand them with their respiratory systems unobstructed. It is absolutely wonderful that they chose to stay at their healthiest by breathing fresh air while performing such labor intensive jobs, doing their part to protect the community by being at their healthiest, nicely done. They also took great care of sensitive plants surrounding the stump and removed them for me, cleaned up, and went on their way. Would highly recommend this service provider to anyone looking to grind some stumps. read more

I called Stump Grinding Northwest in a moment of desperation. Due to another company's flakiness, I was left with chunks of stump in my yard just two days before I had a whole crew of contractors was coming to redo the whole back yard. I needed those stumps ground fast. I Googled "stump grinding seattle" and got Stump Grinding NW as the first result. I called them up and Jeff said they might be able to make it out that same day! A huge relief, given my tight timeframe. When they arrived, Jeff listened carefully to what I wanted: I wanted to get as deep as possible, and as close to the fence as possible. Jeff explained that going deeper is more expensive, because the deeper you go the more rocks there are to dull the cutting blade. He quoted me $500, which was more than I was hoping for (I had paid the previous company over $1,000 already), but I agreed. When I saw how thorough he was, I was over the moon, and more than happy to pay. Jeff ground every bit of stump possible, to an impressive depth. The places he couldn't grind (because they were sandwiched between layers of concrete) he showed me how to chip out using my mattock. He was extremely helpful in all aspects of the job. read more

Terrific experience! Fast, friendly, responsive. We had some laurels and small shrubs cut down to make room for a shed in our backyard, but the stumps remained. Jacob came out to give an estimate and came back about a week later to grind the stumps down. He was quick and thorough, and now we're able to proceed with our shed project. Would definitely do business with Stump Grinding Northwest again. read more

My husband just hired Jeff to remove a stump smack in the middle of our backyard and WOW what a world of difference! Jeff was extremely communicative and easy to work with. He was able to provide a rough quote over the phone and came out the next day to assess the job and give us a firm quote. He was able to then remove the stump the same day in a matter of minutes! We do not have the proper tools for this job and instead of spending a day of back-breaking work fighting with a stump, Jeff was able to use his equipment to remove the stump and drastically improve the quality of our yard. Highly recommend! read more

Jeff was the first company to get back to me. I had contacted 3 other companies. I thought he was coming to the house to just give us a bid. He called me with the bid and said he could start right away. Not only did he ground the stumps that afternoon, he was a day earlier than he said he'd be there. The cost was comparable to the other 2 bids that I received. Second time we've used Jeff to ground a large trunk/stump for us. It's so refreshing to contact someone and get such a quick response and do the job quickly! I highly recommend him. Be ready to accept his bid! He'll probably do the job immediately. read more

I used SGN once before when Jeff was the owner and now that he's retired, I had Jacob (new owner) provide an estimate and grind out a holly stump that was situated adjacent to a wooden fence. Great experience! Jacob responded to my initial inquiry same day. He let me know that he would be by in about a week to provide an estimate. He came as scheduled and offered to do the work at the same time as the estimate. His price was very competitive so I had him do the work then and there. It came out great. Except for the wood chips you can't even tell there used to be a stump in our yard. From start to finish, the evolution took about 40 minutes. Jacob was friendly, he cleaned up after himself, and he did great work. Highly recommend. read more

As a real estate broker, property manager, and general contractor, we have called upon Stump Grinding NW many times over the past 20 years. Jacob did an amazing job! he was punctual, explained everything, and did the job for a reasonable quote. I had a difficult job in a tight space and others hadn't been willing to do it but Jacob used his hand grinder and worked hard to get two stumps out so I could landscape an eyesore area right outside my main window. He also referred me to another contractor for the next step. It's now transformed and I couldn't have done it without Stump Grinding NW! read more

Jacob came out TWICE to attempt to grind down a large maple stump on my parking strip. He left a large 3-4 foot section of root easily 6 inches above grade. And when I pointed out what was left after his second attempt to completely grind down the stump, his response was to say "As a sump grinder, you have to stop at some point, otherwise you'll grind for 10's of feet beyond where the stump use to rest." My suggestion is to look elsewhere for a stump AND large root grinder. read more
