Very strange experience but reading the reviews, it seems the piercers are strong, and the other customer service staff are weak. I only came into to check out the jewelry. I'm thankful I was the only person in there and was able to get a couple questions answered. I came in the see the flat back assortment in person as I'm trying to switch over entirely to flat back studs. I understand the sanitary aspect and that trying on is not possible. But was surprised I could not even handle a display stud up to my ear to see if I liked the size. I was certain I would leave with a couple flat back studs or three or four, but without the ability to understand it in relation to my current earrings, I gave up on that idea. I asked for a couple of the other not flat back studs and they were out of one. The "y'all" stud. Even though I could see the display y'all stud and would have been fine with that one. But at this point I just felt like a nuisance and wanted to get out of there. The 2 women felt much more interested with holding their own conversation than an attempt problem solving for me. read more

There were no same-day appointments available online, but I was lucky enough to get an appointment 20 mins after I walked in. The staff were all lovely: gracious and friendly, and the ear pierce was done so professionally. They affirmatively follow up with emails and texts: very thorough! The first piercing I got fell out two days after I got it which was a bummer; however, the staff at the back bay location helped book me an "emergency appointment" as soon as possible. It ended up getting cancelled the day before it was scheduled...so I had to postpone it another day but service on that day was great and I am happy with the new piercing and very appreciative that it was complimentary. read more

I bought earrings and received a piercing. Rhiannon did my piercings and was lovely-very kind, informative, and diligent. Unfortunately the staff at the front desk was extremely unfriendly. My friend and I were trying to look at earrings and nobody asked us if we needed help and it was difficult to get advice or information. It felt like we were in their way! The person who pierced me (Jasmine) was very helpful and awesome I would recommend her to literally anyone!! as far as the staff they were very unprofessional and extremely rude both times I went in. They don't make the space welcoming when you walk into sign in for your appointment. The person at the check in desk for piercings seemed as if everyone who came in was a inconvenience to her as if that isn't her job. Got a stacked lobe piercing a few days ago and my ear ended up in pain and ate up the stud. The back was too short and the stud was too small. Luckily they took me in as a walk-in today and I barely had to wait to see a piercer to get it fixed. Nahjah was insanely sweet and helpful. I got a new, longer, and bigger stud put in (free of charge) and I already feel better. I appreciate the staff being so helpful as I was in a semi-panic. read more

from the moment I walked in (at 12:01pm for a 12:00pm appointment), I was threatened a cancellation for being ONE minute late. was told to rush upstairs before they cancelled my appointment, at which point I was greeted awfully and told to "quickly pick my jewelry" before "my time was up". I proceed to pick a piece of jewelry and ask if it's the same one as the one in the picture I liked and the response was "what you see is just as good as what I see". Wish I could give 0 stars. Was provided with the worst customer services I've ever received (I am a former retail worker). Both the sales associate and piercer had no regard whatsoever for my emotions and would not let me bring my friend back in the piercing studio to look at a mirror with me. MOST IMPORTANTLY when I asked for the piercers opinion she did not help me with my "ear-scaping" which is their claim to fame.The piercer was no help whatsoever and made me very uncomfortable. She was rushing me the entire time, repeatedly looking at her watch and looking around the store while I spoke. The sales associate told me I had 2 minutes to make my decision which made me feel as if they did not care about me as a patron of their business. When i expressed that i was feeling rushed they did nothing to make me feel more comfortable, and simply said "You had 20 minutes. You were not rushed". At this point i had reached my limit and became visibly upset to which they responded "Well now we can't pierce you because it's not safe and you're too upset." The most they could offer me was the ability to reschedule which i declined. I had clearly reached my limit and expressed my concern about how I did not get the help, jewelry or piercings that I was promised when I booked my appointment. I even had to ensure my card wouldn't charged as a cancellation. This experience has tarnished my opinion of STUDS and specifically the Newbury Street location. If you are looking for a piercer who will give you the help and suggestions you need and make you feel at ease before they literally put a needle into your body, then this is not the place for you. Your better off going to Claire's. Don't believe the hype about this place that you see on social media. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. The customer service here is awful. I have never felt so profiled. It was like everyone working here was teaming up to make sure my friends and I had a horrible experience. They purposefully would tell us to do one thing just so the next worker could reprimand us and tell us to do another. I felt extremely judged and not welcomed at all despite sharing how nervous I was about my first ear piercing. They ignored the other customers in the shop just to make sure they were focused on giving us a hard time. They were extremely rude and unprofessional and made my friends and I really uncomfortable. Really sad that such a fun experience had to be so horrible because of the people working in this establishment. read more

I've gotten multiple piercings at studs at several of their locations in different cities/states over the past few years. At first, I thought it was a good experience. As time has gone on and after getting additional piercings, I definitely would not recommend studs to anyone. You can go anywhere that the piercers use a needle instead of a gun to receive as good/much better service. The flat back earrings they use (which they require you to buy new ones of for every piercing you get there even if you already have their piercing jewelry from past piercings) are not functional. Not only are they extremely difficult to take in and out on your own, but one of my last appointments at studs, one of their piercers bent and broke 3 different gold earrings trying to fit it into the back piece of the earring. Finally, she got another piercer to come in to help her who did do it successfully. However, that piercing was 7 months old and basically healed (I was just there to have them switch to the shorter backs which they recommend coming in for after a certain time). The piercers irritated the piercing so badly trying to switch the back that ever since then it's been in pain and needs constant cleaning again like a new piercing (that was over 5 months ago since they caused the irritation). Also, don't let the piercers talk you into buying the more expensive piercing jewelry because you have sensitive ears - the part that goes through your ear on all their earrings will always be titanium so they are being misleading when they say to go with the more expensive 18k gold ones for sensitive ears. Lastly, their flat back jewelry is such low quality that the earrings fall out which is a problem I've never generally had with earrings. As a result, I've had several piercings done there with 18k gold earrings that were lost because they'd be slipping out of the backs regularly. Not only did this mean the jewelry was lost but these were cartilage piercings literally falling out of my ears before the time that the piercings were healed and safe to take in and out. Overall, my piercings from studs are sort of fine at this point and it's better than a mall kiosk or somewhere that uses a gun. But I think are really just getting by because of being trendy on social media rather than being a good choice for piercings. I wish I could go back and have gotten my piercings done elsewhere and would have saved a lot of money and time (even in hundreds of dollars of lost jewelry!) read more
