This used to be the most wonderful salon. Change in policies, repeated staff turnover and new fresh from beauty school stylists are filling the chairs but the prices are still steep. Greed got in the way of success. My hair was turned into gum after a bad highlight but the stylist/owner left before my hair was blown out. I was told that there were no appointments available to fix it for two weeks. It cost me a fortune to have someone else cut the damage off. I ended up with a short pixie. Nope! read more

I called requesting a stylist who was good with long curly hair several weeks prior to an appointment for my 16 year old daughter. We were directed to schedule with Alexis. My daughter brought pictures of what she wanted. My daughter is shy and soft spoken. Her hair ended up being cut nothing like the pictures and much shorter than she wanted. My daughter is devastated & I am very disappointed. I had hoped a seasoned stylist would have been aware that this was a drastic change for a 16 year old and to proceed slowly and not cut the curls too short, knowing the hair would spring up. read more

Could not recommend this salon more!! 11/10. This was my first time at this salon and I had the most pleasant experience. I had such a warm greeting immediately upon entering and was giving a tour of the space. There are an array of amenities to provide you with whatever you need and keep you comfortable while you wait. Heather was my stylist and she was amazing. It's so easy to feel anxious with a new stylist, but she made me feel at ease, as I could tell she was very experienced and educated. After the consultation, she was able to fit me right in for a bleaching appointment right after the consult. Heather was so nice, friendly, and easy to talk to. She NAILED my hair. Like the best bleach I've ever had. Could not recommend her and this salon more. I will 100% be back next time I need a cut or color, she absolutely slayed them both. read more

I went here for a couple of years but had it with all of the games. First shocker is the "deposit" you have to pay up front so you don't cancel... but then when you go to check out, you ALWAYS have to ask them to apply the deposit to your balance.. and they look at you surprised that you are asking to apply the deposit... and they are reluctant to refund it because they want to hold it for the next appointment??? And my relative doesn't have to pay one who gets their hair done there?? Then I ask the stylist to cut my hair in to a certain style and it never looks like pics that I show her. What finally did it for me was when I walked in for my appointment and directly on the counter top, facing me was an iPad that stated, "check in for your appointment"--what?? as there was a gentleman sitting at the desk doing nothing, blank stare at me...no hello or anything. After paying high prices at this salon they could at least check me in like a normal salon. Even Walmart salons greet you! That was it for me. read more

Studio Raw is my new salon home. I've been a client of Heather's since 2016 and followed her here. Heather has always makes sure I'm happy and beautiful by the time we're done. When I first met her I had a perm with shorter layers all throughout and a side bang. She took me from that to long, sleek, shiny healthy hair. I also trust Heather on my color journey. I started with a demi-permanent to help with the beginnings of my need for gray coverage. We've gradually moved into caramel highlights and permanent color for the gray as my need for coverage changes. Heather's recommendation to use a keratin treatment to has helped me to get the smooth, fly away free hair I want when I style it at home. I still have my beach waves when I air dry as well frizz free, an unexpected bonus of the no sulfates/no silicone products I use. My styling products were recommended by Heather, I use Prose for my shampoo and conditioner. Heather is also my go to for special event hair. We've done sleek and modern to beachy and boho. Heather takes inspiration from the photos I bring to her and creates a custom look that suits me. Our working relationship over the years allows us to communicate well, and she always lets me know what to expect and what will and won't work. It takes time to get to know a person and their hair, each is so unique! Studio Raw itself is also a gem. The environment is open, dappled in beautiful sunlight from all the windows, and very comfortable chic. I thought I had BAD HAIR (baby fine, thining, straight but w just enough kink to never look nice, tangles easily...), but then I met Logan, who knew what to do with it! This was the first time I've ever left a salon and not wanted to go home and restyle my hair! I was nervous coming to Studio Raw bc I had a friend have a very bad experience w another stylist here. I was having a hair emergency, and bc Studio RAW is so close to my house I thought I'd try it anyway, given I know a lot of people who have had GREAT experiences here. I LOVED it. It's very clean and the precautions they were taking to follow Covid protocol made me feel at ease immediately. I told Logan what I wanted, showed her some pictures - and I knew she knew what she was doing when she looked at some of the pictures and was like, "This won't work with your hair unless you want to do a lot of styling every day." She asked me how long I wanted to spend doing my hair each day and how comfortable I was styling. No one has ever asked me that before. I wanted a ton of layers and she was like, "We'll give you volume, but you don't want layers bc it'll thin the bottom of your hair out." SHE WAS RIGHT. I have the best hair cut I have ever had. She gave me a mini lesson on how to curl my hair w a straight iron. I left feeling confident enough to buy a flat iron. I was only able to get a cut w her (given I needed a same day appointment), so the next day I went to another salon to have the color done. WOW. The difference was night and day. The other salon was nowhere near as inviting and I didn't love my color as much as the cut. 10/10 would recommend. HIGHLY RECOMMEND LOGAN. I booked a color correction after a consult. I told the young man that we all work nights and that 9 am was a tough appointment time for me. It was made anyway ( I paid a $50 deposit) and sure enough being in cancer treatment and on a late night schedule I was going to be 10-15 minutes late. I called and got a machine and left the message that I was on the way and apologized profusely. Got a call back when I was almost there that they would have to cancel. I was trying to explain myself and the "lady" who called was rude and hateful. She kept saying if youre going to be FORTY minutes late.... I was telling her NO, I will be 15 mins late MAX. She just kept talking over me. Saying and we WILL be keeping your deposit. I finally got tired of trying to explain and trying to tell her I was almost there. My daughters both got very good haircuts there. So they wanted to send Mom there for a pick me up...after all I have been going through. Well let me tell you. Id go to a cost cutter, super cuts or anywhere before I'd give my money to such entitled, rude people. I dont care how good you are at what you do? A little kindness goes a long way! I truly hope that they realize, you shouldn't treat your customers as an inconvenience. Even if the outcome was the same? The rudeness was uncalled for. It was my happy place with a warm vibe which made every visit a treat but has completely changed recently. A business consultant changed my favorite salon of all time into a money making machine. Prices skyrocketing, upfront deposits to book an appointment, hair results nowhere as good as they used to be (the change to new products just didn't work for my hair) It has turned into a training factory for new stylists right out of school to keep staffed since many of the older stylists left. My thin fine hair was absolutely beautiful for the longest time but now it's a hit or miss. Completely disappointing. read more

I recently moved here and it took me a while to finally take the risk at trying a new salon. My stylist was very nice but my haircut looks really bad :/ I will just add a pic because I can't believe I just paid $50 for this. I think Supercuts or Great clips would have done a better job. Looks like someone just took a pair of industrial scissors and cut a semi straight line across. It was supposed to be an inch trim but feels much shorter and one side appears longer than the other. Oh and it took 1.5 hours for a haircut and blow dry! I can blow dry my own hair quicker and better than what I got. I've had some pretty awesome hair stylists in the past so maybe my expectations are too high. Update. My hair doesn't appear to be longer on one side it is! It's so uneven!! thought with my natural curls it wouldn't show as much but one side it very noticeably uneven! I can't believe this was cut by a professional. read more

I used to work in North Hills about 3 years ago and when a co-worker told me about how fantastic this piece of gem this salon is, I know I have to check it out and see for myself. This is easily one of the best salons I have ever been to until this date. My hair is long and pretty coarse so I have struggled over the years to find somebody that have the experiences with my types of hair. When I called and made an appointment they put me with Amy and I feel so lucky that they did because she is fantastic! I've been coming to her ever since and there's not one time that I walked out unhappy. One thing that I admired about her is that she's really patient with you. She slowly transformed my hair into an "almost" platinum blonde but in a healthy way without damaging my hair. It obviously did take some time but with my type of hair you just have to be patient with it. I have gone to some hair stylists before (not at Studio Raw) where they got my hair lighten pretty quickly but then later on, my hair would be so dry and damaged. Overall I have nothing bad to say about this place! If you're looking for a new salon you gotta give this place a try! Ps there's a whole bar / snacks chillaxing room while you're waiting. Worst highlights ever!!! If I could give them a zero I would.!! Allison was my stylist. I took great pains to explain to her what I wanted thick distinctive blonde streaks .... I explained how I wanted it done. Big chunks of blond.... I pointed two two other stylists that had the look I wanted. I showed her want to do..... I thought I was pretty clear. After the highlights for some unknown reason she decided I need "toner". Which cost more and eliminated all the blond highlights and took my hair back to one color.....2.5 hours and a$140 later I left with the same mousy brown hair I came in with. They want to redo it but I did not have another 2.5 hours and another $140 to get it redone. read more

All the updates and "Elite" in their name are costing the clients higher prices on all services. This is not an Elite salon, just think they are. Too much going on at all times as far as activity and commotion in the salon. Have not had the desired cut or color I requested even after switching stylists. Parking lot is difficult to get in and out of as well. Go somewhere else and avoid the high prices. read more

I felt so at home and comfortable! All the staff made me feel like we were long lost friends, telling casual stories, making small talk and more than just the "weather" or typical water cooler talk. I met Amy Ellwood at a wedding of mutual friends and I loved her energy and personality and I only wish I would have made an appointment earlier! I went in with a picture of a rose gold (very trendy right now BuzzFeed says lol) ombre color. Thankfully she helped me choose the right color and while she left the final decision up to me, she guided me towards a different hue. She explained that the rose color pink would wash out quickly and also explained that they are "fashion colors" really only designed to stay a few washes, if I was lucky. I valued her honesty and took her professional opinion and I'm very thankful that I did! I love the color my hair turned out! (I posted a before and after picture! You'll have to check it out!) I cannot wait to go back to see Amy! The atmosphere was great! They have a "living room" style while you wait and a kitchen with literally a full bar. Coffee, Beer, wine, liquor and mixers in the fridge. Also, they had a peanut butter and jelly bar... a PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY BAR??!! and thankfully they did because I forgot to eat lunch! So I've been loyal to this salon since I started going there about a year ago. Every 6 weeks like clockwork.(drop $200 every time) I went in for my initial consultation with Kelly (no longer works there) She was amazing with my very fine (but healthy) platinum blonde hair. At this point I was absolutely in love with Studio Raw. She was very kind with my hair. Knew what products worked best on me and made a point not to damage my hair. That took precedence over everything. I initially came in with light golden blonde hair and had wanted to kick it into the ash/white/silver range. She got me to my goal and was wonderful at my cuts as well every other appointment or so. I even loved how she asked me how I wanted my hair styled. I'd walk out with gorgeous Barbie doll curls. Sadly she moved away in February and I was left scrambling for someone new who could be equally good. Here's where everything goes wrong. As per her recommendation (my old stylist) I started seeing Nicole. HUGE MISTAKE. If you have bleach blonde hair this girl will fry you. I've had a handful of appointments with her and the health of my hair has gone downhill terribly. After my second to last appointment I started to really have enough. I already didn't like that she was extremely rough with my hair. Tugging and pulling with a barrel brush, dropping her utensils everywhere. This girl is a bit all over the shop. My haircut that time was AWFUL. How do you screw up a trim on long straight hair? When I came home I had to fix it myself it was completely crooked on one side. I don't know what the hell she was doing. THEN I start to notice breakage on my lower hairline in the back. I take such good care of my hair knowing what it goes through. Rarely does it even face heat. The products I use are nothing but the best. I do Olaplex treatments regularly and treat it like a baby. So now comes the very last appointment (last Saturday) I knew my scalp would burn that day because well it always does with Nicole. Well on this particular day after nearly an hour and a scalp on fire I ask her "what volume developer are you using?" 30.....30 freaking volume on dirty blonde roots! Yes you read that right. For nearly an hour! I wanted to scream. All I could do was hold it together until I got home. Later that night I wake up and my entire face is swollen. She BURNED me. Ruined my entire weekend and following week. I was very close to an ER visit if it didn't go down. Took 3 days! And since I have spent tireless hours doing treatments after treatments to save my hair. I've managed to start the recovery but have suffered lots of breakage. First I contacted Nicole herself and she pretended to care for maybe a day. After she knew she burned me she tries to put it on me. She KNOWS it was her fault. 30 volume!? I had THE HEALTHIEST HAIR. As soon as I mention my old stylist and how she did my hair *crickets Never heard from her again. Next I contacted the owner who I really like and respect. Nothing. 2 grand I've spent there. My hair is destroyed. Charlatan owner who hides behind fund raisers and completely juvenile online image. That stuff is well and good but you run a garbage operation. Your customers need to be a priority. You can talk about weed with clients, which is super professional btw, and give phony "charm" compliments but when it comes to legit customer complaints you can't be bothered beyond petulant gaslighting. read more

It was a difficult journey to find my hairstylist Erina, a down to earth master stylist with stunning acrylics. Finding a hairstylist that is confident in their perming skills is rare, but if you're looking for someone who has the modern day perm down to a T-it's Erina. When I asked for her opinions on styles I had brought in she was unabashedly truthful, and with trusting in her expertise I came out with the perfect shaggy body wave. While trimming, she constantly tested my hair to make sure it was symmetrical (I came in with lopsided lengths!), I had never seen a stylist check their work so thoroughly. Along with the boutique aura of the salon and affectionate warmth from passing stylists, I felt like a regular in my first appointment! Now, go get a PERM! read more

Just like any salon, your experience at Studio Raw is only as good as the stylist to whom you are assigned. It was my dumb luck to get assigned to a rather junior person. Although very nice, this stylist is just not that good, in particular with using the clippers to do a fade. My fade looks more like a series of stripes, each one progressively longer. It's not a fade at all, really. In addition, I was nicked by the clippers at each ear, drawing blood. Yes, it happens, but there wasn't so much as an apology. I am not sure the stylist even noticed, because the whole haircut seemed to be very rushed. Lesson learned: interview a few stylists at any salon before choosing one. Don't just accept the one they assign to you, because chances are the reason they're available is because they don't have much of a client base, and the reason for that is probably because they're not that good. The salon itself is nicer than most. The lounge area is top notch, and the refreshments are varied and high quality. The salon also supports people in the area who are experiencing medical difficulties. Kudos! The one thing that bothers me is their extremely unprofessional behavior on Facebook. They regularly post pictures of the male staffers posing in juvenile, unprofessional ways in the salon's parking lot. I get that you want to have fun at work, but there is a line between having fun and projecting a professional image. They don't seem to know where that line is. read more

I wanted to cry "lol the good kind" when I saw how gorgeous my hair looked. I had a vision and Madison exceeded my expectations. I felt much more excited about my day due to the masterpiece that was was structured in my hair. Madison is often labeled as the person who does amazing braids, but she is talented in all of her updos. I absolutely recommend her if you want your dream wedding hair. Make sure you do a trial first. I actually liked my trial hair. Madison was open that she wanted to make it better and she did on my wedding day. I am so impressed with Studio RAW and Paige especially! As a gender non-conforming human, haircuts can sometimes feel incredibly daunting and dysphoric. After looking for a salon all over Pittsburgh, I heard that this place was great for anyone under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. I am SO glad I took the plunge. Upon walking in, I immediately felt at ease. This salon is GORGEOUS. Very clean, inviting, and full of fantastic amenities that range from beautiful minimalist stations to a kitchen full of food, drinks, and even beer and wine for those waiting. Paige's station came with a rainbow flag and the openness of the studio allowed for a bright workspace where I could see all the other customers and stylists, even at night. And then for the important part: hair. So I have really curly hair that hadn't been cut since Dec. 2017. Paige knew exactly what to do with it, even when I asked for her to shave a nape undercut into my hair. I felt like I could immediately trust her with my hair, and I will definitely be back for everything from trims to major overhauls. As someone who HATES getting their hair cut, I can honestly say that knowing I'm going to studio raw, my anxiety melts away. Growing up with curly hair, I've had some AWFUL haircuts because most stylist are not as proficient with cutting/styling curls. I love that at studio raw the stylists all work together and offer advice/opinions on what would work. During my pregnancy, my naturally curly hair decided it just didn't want to be curly anymore. In need of a change, I scheduled an appointment. My stylist, Hannah, worked closely with me and gave me realistic expectations. I drive by Studio Raw on my way home and finally decided to give them a try. I called to book an appointment and was asked what I was looking for and what kind of hair I have. I was hopeful I would get scheduled with someone who knows how to cut curly hair. Needless to say, the stylist I was scheduled with seemed clueless on how to cut and style my hair type. I was shocked when she attempted to blow dry my hair without product in it and without a diffuser (two big no-nos for curly hair. I left there looking like a poodle. I've given the cut a few days, and can honestly say it's one of the worst cuts I've ever received. I'm so glad I was only getting a trim - I can only imagine what my hair would look like if I requested a specific style. I feel like I could have gotten the same cut and level of service going to SuperCuts (with a much cheaper price tag). I think I'll return to my regular salon in Lawrenceville. I came into Studio Raw on December 10 looking for some low lights and a trim. What I got was uneven color (that looked gray!) and 3 inches chopped off with thinning shears. Now, two months later, I am still upset as the cut has not grown out very much and is rather unattractive. I can't pull my hair into a pony tail or in a French twist the way I used to. The ends are thin and scraggly and the pieces around my face frame my face like some 1990's Jennifer Anniston/Rachel cut. I'm not looking to get anything out of this other than to let you know how my requests were basically ignored. I won't be returning to Studio Raw and have cancelled my appointments. I spent $140 on this only to be miserable the past 2 months and for the next several months until my hair grows again. read more
