I have been wanting to get my brows done since it became a "thing" a couple of years ago. However, I was really on the fence about doing something semi-permanent to my face. I did a ton of research about different types of semi-permanent brows as well as different brow artists. I finally got my powered brows done in late March with Alana, the owner of Studio Masami. I wanted to wait until my brows were fully healed before writing this review. Let me preface by saying that I am not necessarily a fan of those super done up brows you see that are popular on social media; instead, I like a natural brow. In fact, I believe a lot of people get their brows done so they can save some time when they do their makeup, but I personally wanted my brows done so I don't look so terrible makeupless. I don't mind adding a bit of makeup to my brows when I do have makeup on. I somehow LUCKILY stumbled on Studio Masami's instagram and felt like her style was exactly the same as mine. When I went in for my appointment, I made all of the above clear with Alana and she completely understood everything I was saying. She was so sweet and patient. I actually felt bad because I took longer than I probably should have when it came time to mapping out the shape of my brows. This is because I don't follow the natural shape of my brow; I favor a straighter brow which is popular in Asia. However, Alana showed no frustration with me at all. When I saw on a friend's Instagram that her aesthetician, Lea, was having an amazing flash sale, I decided it was now or never and I took the plunge. So happy I did! I decided to start with my underarms since my hair there grows back very fast--I used to have to shave them every day :( Lea is very personable and sweet, and she does a good job of explaining the process and what to expect. The sensation of the laser is really not bad at all, it's kind of like getting whacked by a thin rubber band. I would not characterize it as painful, just minimally uncomfortable. Also, for my underarms one session only takes maybe 15 minutes. I also love that she makes it a point to reach out every so often between sessions to make sure everything is going ok. I've gone in for 3 sessions so far (once on the weekend and twice on weekdays after work) and every time the studio is immaculately clean and parking is always available. I think I still need at least one more session to get rid of some pesky rogue hairs but I am VERY pleased with the results thus far--barely any hair growth now and my skin is so smooth! I just got done getting my eyebrows tattooed by Alana, and all I have to say is WOW! I LOVE my eyebrows! Alana takes her time figuring out how to shape your brows and also takes into consideration how you want your brows to look. She uses the same jelly that they use during ultrasounds so super cold and cooling...she then uses the laser which targets your hair follicles and kills them so your hair eventually stops growing. The laser itself feels warm but with the jelly it's very cooling at the same time. So it is a constant warm /cold feeling...laser girls will understand what I mean! Your hair growth will eventually be stunted in the treated areas and eventually just fall out! It's crazy! The first time I saw my hair falling out it was so weird but so oddly cool at the same time! Consistency is key though! Pending on the person and their hair some people I hear take about 6-9 sessions to see no more hair growth. So make sure you stay on top of your treatments! Also, stay out of the sun! The lighter your skin the better your results! The more tan your skin is makes it harder for the laser to do its thing since it works off of contrast. So make sure to take care of your skin and wear sunscreen always! I also see Lea for my monthly hydra facials. I have very sensitive skin and I get hormonal breakouts from my BC. I have oily combo skin and anytime I get a breakout, my skin scars super easy. I don't pick, but it still just scars. Ugggh! Anyway, since getting these facials, I've experienced less breakouts and my skin has been smoother than ever! My scars have also lightened and my face seems a lot brighter. I really wanted to write an update to my previous review about my recent experiences at Studio Masami. For my past two hydrafacial sessions, I've been seeing Nicole. In short, she is awesome. She is so knowledgeable and genuinely cares about my skin! During my first appointment with her, she provided me with a lot of helpful info on how to better care for my skin and on how to address my skin concerns. I took her advice, and she was right about everything that she told me to do!!! My skin really cleared up and hasn't broken out since I've changed my routine and products. I saw her yesterday for my second appointment, and she was more than happy to offer me more advice about what kinds of products to use since I'm leaving on a trip and the plane can suck the life out of skin. She really makes an effort to not only provide the hydrafacial service with immediate benefits, but to also offer extremely solid and informative tips and advice to help your skin improve long term. I also wanted to thank the other esthetician who was working yesterday morning (I believe her name is Lea?) for being so kind to me. The parking lot for the building raised their fee for Saturday's from $3 to $4 (I had called the day before to double check the amount was $3 since I usually attend weekday appointments, the girl I spoke to confirmed this, which was totally not her fault! This review is long overdue...I initially had my brows done by Alana back in November. She was very detailed and took her time to map out my face and make sure that I was happy with the shape of my brows before she even got started. During the process, she made sure to keep me in the loop and explain what she was doing (outline first, and once that was done she could apply the numbing cream). Another thing that made me feel comfortable is that she is very easy to talk to! Towards the end she had me look in the mirror and let her know if I liked the shape and color, or wanted any changes made. After we were both happy with the results she gave an aftercare sheet and gave detailed instructions of post-care as well as ointment to put on. After my brows were healed we scheduled my touch-up appointment and I went back in mid-January. I was already happy with the results and we just made a few minor adjustments (filling in patchy spots).
