This is a review for the location and overall ~vibe~ of the shop. I booked a nail appointment with an artist who is doing a guest spot at Beauty Mark for a few weeks. My nails are my favorite that I've ever had and if this nail tech was here permanently- I would book regularly!! First off, there's free parking and a lot of it! Beauty Mark is located on the second floor, in the same building as Fujiyama Texas. The building has a lot of... character, to say the least. It may not be polished on the outside but the inside of Beauty Mark felt bright, clean, and comfortable. There is a ton of natural light that makes the ambiance really nice. The bathrooms is a single room, but very clean. Since this spot isn't usually a nail salon, I was the only one getting my nails done in their waiting room area. There was ample space for me, my nail artist + all her supplies, and my stuff. They played local/ Hawaiian music at a nice volume, loud enough to hear but at a volume where you can talk freely without an issue of hearing the other person. I'm not a typical customer of this establishment since I don't get permanent makeup etc. done but I did really enjoy my time getting my nails done here! If Noelle the nail artist does another pop-up here- I would book again in a heartbeat! read more

I am not one that takes an hour or so to get ready. In fact, I'm one of those ladies that will just swipe a wet/dry press powder; eyeliner, brows, mascara and lipstick under 7 minutes or less. However, as I get older, I know I need to take better care of my skin but I don't have the patience. Last year, I decided to microblade my brows because I didn't want the tattooed look like my sister (sorry, Kalei). However, it didn't last long despite my brows getting touched-up twice shortly after. I still had to apply brow shadow. Since last September 2016, I started Crossfit and in July of this year, I began powerlifting. Some days, I don't care if I have makeup and some days I'm coming in straight from the office to train with my mascara (WATER-PROOF) smearing under my eyes, which I wanted to something about it (yes, I'm vain). This is where CJ comes in. I remembered her from the 2017 Crossfit Open and noticed that she is a makeup artist because she helped one of the ladies at Arkaios Crossfit with her makeup for a bodybuilding competition! I started stalking her stylist page on IG and her personal account because I admired her makeup and lash extensions (that's another review in the making). I saw her post on where she got her lashes done and booked an appointment. While I was making an appointment for my lashes, I inquired with the gal if she did powder brow tattooing and she recommended me to CJ! Talk about fate. CJ is one of the brow specialist at Beauty Mark. She also does makeup as well too. I texted CJ shortly after and she was able to squeeze me in the beginning of December. Beauty Mark Honolulu located in the McCully area on South King Street is easy to find. If you're familiar where Pineapple Patio, Beauty Mark is across the street in a building on the 2nd floor. Don't let the appearance of the building alarm you (its circa 1970ish, I think) because once you enter the salon, it's like you're in another world like the beauty salon of Narnia. It's relaxing, clean and the vibe is friendly where you are immediately at ease. For each of their services, they'll have you fill out a form to provide information on yourself as well as consenting to doing the procedures. With CJ, I chose to do the powder brow tattoo because in my opinion from the picture I've seen as well as searched online, it's a softer look of a regular tattooed eyebrows. CJ will work with you on your eyebrows until you're satisfied with the recommendations as well. She'll go over with you what she will do before and during the procedure. She will also take a before and after photo of your brows. NOTE: The procedure itself wasn't painful. Overall, a great experience because of CJ. Doing my eyebrows to get ready to go out each day has always been the task I least looked forward to, but the most necessary because without doing them I would feel naked. My body not growing much hair or growing hair quite thin can be both a pro and a con. A pro because shaving and stubble isn't much of an issue for me, but a con because lashes and eyebrows are basically non-existent. Enter CJ...my savior! I had heard about microblading for quite a while, but had never taken the time to seriously look into getting my eyebrows done. I contacted CJ to inquire about what the process would be like. Seeing as how there is a healing process involved, I waited until I was on summer break so that my eyebrows would have the time and privacy to go through that healing process. Beauty Mark is located on the right side of S King St. just before McDonald's. They are on the second floor. The building they are located in looks quite shabby from the outside, but the inside of their office is very stylish. They are not open on a daily basis, so you need to book an appointment with them. Booking an appointment was no trouble at all. They schedule you for 2 hours, but the procedure itself takes much shorter than that. I think the paperwork I had to fill out on my initial procedure took longer than the actual microblading itself. Take your time to look through the paperwork. You want to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into and that your body is ready to accept this semi permanent tattooing procedure. The procedure starts with CJ sticking a stencil onto your face to mark off the measurements for your eyebrows. It looks quite ridiculous, but you want to make sure everything is done precisely. She draws in an outline of what she's going to do and asks if you are okay with it. At first, I thought it was too thick, but CJ assured me that it would turn out how I wanted. Put your trust in CJ...this girl is phenomenal! She knows her stuff and what works best for your face. I'm not going to lie. Getting your eyebrows microbladed is no day at the spa. CJ puts numbing cream on to help ease the pain and chats with you throughout the procedure to get your mind off of it, but there is some pain that you're going to have to endure. I had to go back a month after the initial procedure to get a touch up. The emotional rollercoaster you go through in that month is nothing to joke about. No one can fully prepare you for what you go through in that time (especially the first couple of weeks). They can tell you what's going to happen, but to actually experience it is something else. Day 1 starts off beautifully, but as the days go by, scabbing starts to happen and then you're left with some spotty patches. You spend the first week doing everything in your power not to get any kind of water or sweat on them. You think, "Was this really worth it???" But then you go back for the touch up and life is good again! So here I am again in round 2 of this emotional rollercoaster, but am anticipating the final results...waking up each day with beautiful eyebrows! To go from nothing to beautifully shaped eyebrows as soon as I wake up is truly some kind of magic that CJ performed! I'm hoping that this lasts the whole year as some say it does, but we shall see. Every skin type is different. Some will take it wonderfully, while others will not. I can't speak for your skin type, but am glad with the work I received from CJ. read more

Beauty Mark was running a special promo with their new lash apprentice and I couldn't refuse the deal. It was my birthday so I decided to treat myself. Right when I walk in I was greeted by Jenn (who is so sweet) and then by Kekela. Kekela is bubbly and has such a great vibe to her. I told her I wanted more of a natural look and then I laid down under the covers to prepare to sleep. I found myself talking story with Kekela, then taking a nap, then talking story again. It was like having a sleepover with a friend haha. It made the session go by faster. It went great and I felt no pain or discomfort at all. When I looked in the mirror it was like getting lash extensions for the first time. IT'S LIFE CHANGING haha. It wasn't too dramatic but it enhanced what I already had which was exactly what I wanted. I started seeing Jenn after she opened her new shop in town (it's in the building just before McDonalds on the right hand side when going down King street). My only regret is that I wished I had seen her sooner!!! There is always ample parking in the lot- and can book appointments without trouble. In terms of lashes, Jenn is hands-down the best! I was recommended to her by a coworker, who saw me with balding lashes after just a week and a half and then heard the outrageous prices I was paying for just my fills. Amazing brow tattoo work!!! I previously had a tattoo done almost 10 years ago. It was very thin, uneven, and fading. I originally came to Jenn over a year ago to have them microbladed to give it a fresh new look. I was amazed by how she could freshen up the color to make my brows look less gray and more natural. Recently, I was excited to hear that they were offering ombré brows and definitely wanted to try it. I went to CJ to make my brows a little thicker to match my face shape. She was able to match my previous tattoo colors perfectly and even added a little bit of microblading to give my brows a subtle texture. I'm extremely happy with my results! The service was amazing. They take the time to really draft out your brows and check if you're comfortable with the shape. I have eyebrows for the first time in 13 years all thanks to Jenn!! I was never interested in tattooing my eyebrows until I heard about microblading, but I didn't feel like committing to it just yet since, at the time, it was fairly new here in Hawai'i. Fast foward a few months and I saw a FB friend's post about how much she loved her new brows by Jenn, so I immediately looked her up on Instagram and was amazed by her range of work. Most client pictures from other salons begin to look the same after awhile, but Jenn's work really stood out since her clients had different wants and needs in terms of shape and thickness. Her location is easy to find if you're familiar with all of the awesome downtown boutiques, but I suggest leaving the house a little early if you're going to look for street parking (otherwise, she provides validation for Kukui Plaza Mall). I was simultaneously excited and nervous for my appointment since I've never had any tattoo experience, but Jenn was kind enough to walk me through the process and was so accomodating in ensuring that I was comfortable the whole time. She informed me that the initial shape would be on the thinner side, but I could always go thicker during the touch-up session which was totally understandable and quite honestly, anything would look better than having a half inch patch of hair due to chronic overplucking (guilty as charged). The healing process was quick and low maintenance and for the first time ever, I didn't need to fill in my brows! I've gone through so many products over the years and have wasted so much time reconstructing them on the daily, but I'm so relieved that I no longer feel self-conscious about my brows (or lack thereof). I love how natural it looks especially now that I can allow hair to grow back and also because I still have the flexibility to fill them in! I have had my lashes done off and on at several different places over the past 7 years or so, and I can say with confidence that Jenn is hands down theeeee best. She takes her time and does QUALITY work. There is nothing worse than getting your lashes done and having them look busted 3 days later because the tech did a poor job! Jenn's work lasts- my lashes look so good for weeks! I even had another lash artist (from a different establishment) comment that my 3-week old lashes looked like a new set, and whoever did them does really good work! Lashes are LIFE and Jenn at Beauty Mark is the best! I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. This is a relatively new shop that Jenn opened but she definitely aint no new kid on the block. Best lash artist on the island, hands down! The shop is located directly above Fighting Eel, across the street from Hawaii Theater (look up, you'll see the sign from the Bethel street!) - take the stairs located next to Cake Envy to get here. The studio is nice and spacious and very clean and presentable. I got my first full set of lash extensions from another shop a couple of years ago and was unhappy at the inconsistency of lash fullness and pricing. Weird how this could change when my fill requests were the same every two weeks. This is when I went hunting around for a new artist. SO glad I was referred to Jenn. I don't even know how I lived life without eyelash extensions for so long. Jenn is so good, fast, and FUN. I look forward to my appointments because I know she'll never leave her shop without looking fab. I book an appointment every 3 weeks (1-1.5 hours for a fill) with Jenn, not 2 weeks like I had to do before for a heftier price than I pay here. Even when scheduling conflicts occur, she's very accommodating with rescheduling and I've gone 6, yes, SIX weeks without a fill, and even though I only have about 10 lashes hanging on for dear life, Jenn manages to fill my baldy eyes with ease. I dare you to go 6 whole weeks with lashes applied by other places - I guarantee you won't have any left. It's amazing how long Jenn's lashes last so long as you take care of them! Her lash glue is amazeballs. I promise you'll never walk out with tarantula eyes which are all clumped and twisted together. I never feel a thing when she's working on my lashes. The beds you lounge on while your peepers are being primped are so comfy that falling asleep is inevitable -- if Jenn allows you to sleep, that is! :P I've built a friendship with my lash artist in the years I've been coming to see her and not only am I getting a fresh set of lashes, but it's like a catch up, therapy session. Nobody got time to sleep! It amazes me how fast she works, how effortless it feels, and how she can carry a conversation at the same time! Let me just say, first and foremost, that my eyebrows are on "FLEEK!!" I first seen Jenn on my friend's Instagram. I proceeded to check Jenn's insta page @beautymark-hnl out to see what she's all about. To my "prayers answered," she, tattoo eyebrows doing the "hair stroke" method; a method I read a while back and told myself if ever I was to get my eyebrows done again, this is the way I want to do it; the natural look rather than "colored" in as if it looked as tho you drew your brows with a sharpie. The procedure was somewhat painless as she uses what looks like a pen topped with 14 microblades. Just asked for numbing cream when needed. Jenn gave me many opportunities to check my brows out and is open to hearing my suggestions about where the "hair stroke" was needed. Jenn is chill and she makes the experience worth while. I love the fact that, even tho I now live in LA, she'll accommodate me when I return back to Hawaii for my first touch up. So this is my first review in Yelp. I had to sign up and get an account just so I could write about my amazing experience at Beauty Mark. I first found them on IG. Chloe did my eyelash extensions and she took such care and time to explain to me the process, how to take care of my lashes for longevity, and made me feel comfortable with my lash extension experience. Because I had such an amazing experience with Chloe, I felt comfortable asking about micro blading brows. Got my eyebrows ombré powdered by Jenn and it was the best decision of my life! I have a lot of brow hairs but If there's anyway to make my day go as efficient as possible, saving time from drawing my brows in to make a nice shape and not worry about whether it's too dark or even, I'm all in. Jenn worked her magic on my brows. She lines it and even gives you options to see in the mirror which shape you like more before going ahead with it. She also microblades, does lash extensions AND wedding makeup. And she also always gives back to the community any way she can. I was lucky to have been able to schedule an appointment during her special pricing back in November of last year but regardless, the price, it covers the first touch up within the first 6 weeks after the initial appointment after that you'll only need to go back for touch ups maybe once a year if even that.. I believe it just varies person to person and how happy you are with your eyebrows by then. It's quick and for me, painless. So if you have brow hairs but want more shape and a more natural shade in, powder ombré is the way to go. If you don't have much eyebrows and want it to look fuller, microblading is the way to go. I went here at the end of June. The entire process was 45 minutes... walking in the door to paying. At first, I liked them... when I got a closer look at home, I thought the lines were too long and a few were misplaced. They didn't mimic natural eyebrows. Jenn did not use a numbing cream on the first pass. It was painful... tolerable, but painful. The second pass she used numbing cream. I can only assume she didn't use it the first time because she was late. She texted me before my appointment saying she would be 15 minutes late. But who really knows. I'll admit I canceled my touch up appointment. So, maybe she could have fixed it? About a month ago, after my brows healed, I went elsewhere. I got them powdered to help cover up the lines that Jenn created. I'm finally happy. On a side note... I really think that Jenn knows what she's doing. I decided to take a chance and get my eyebrows done because I am basically lazy and my daughters always complain about the fact that my brows are uneven or half off. Jenn managed to fit me in despite the fact that I live in Seattle and had to find an appointment time for when I am in Honolulu during one of my trips. I was lucky enough to get e good deal because she used me during one of her training sessions and we scheduled the follow up for a later trip. Need less to say I was verrrry happy with the results. I healed well and had no issues with flaking. Even though I was used for a training session I felt very comfortable with the experience. The pain level depends on the person so I tried to remain relaxed and not tense taking deep breaths so that I wouldn't scrunch up my face. I went today to the lovely Jenn to do micro balding on my eyebrows. Her work is amazing!!! She was quick and makes you feel so comfortable. She applies this numbing cream to your brows before doing anything to them and it works like magic. I hardly felt a thing. When she finished my heart smiled. I was so satisfied with my new full shape. No more filling them in for a while. I was worried I'd have to use a hat to work for a few days just so you won't be able to how dark they are, but now I'm not worried about it at all. Beauty Mark was running a summer special for brows- $275 for microblading, $350 for powder brows or $400 for combo brows. I had emailed on 9/22 to inquire and see if I could schedule an appointment before September ended. At first I got a response saying that there were a few appointments left and what service I wanted done. After I replied thinking I wanted the combo brows, there was no response. I emailed again to see if there were any appointments I could schedule and still have not heard back. Very disappointed that she completely ignored my emails. read more

I was nervous and excited to try microblading. Eyebrows are the one thing I "put on" before leaving the house. Jenn was amazing. She explained the entire process and put my anxiety to rest. Topical numbing cream is applied so I felt pressure but no pain. She also drew on guidelines so I could see the final outcome, and wasn't at all bothered when I had her modify the lines to my preferences. Jenn had also explained the healing process so I knew to expect minor flaking and peeling the first week, and that color may fade initially but comes back as part of normal skin cycling.
