Athena is pretty awesome. Very sweet and friendly. Very personal and a great person to talk to. I got a mini hand massage and my hands are now pretty and hydrated. I came with first time mom hands (dried and cracked) and after the massage my hands look much younger and doesn't look chapped. Athena has extensive experience in what she does and she does it with a smile and grace. It was her first day at work here and she didn't seem stressed out. She left me in the middle of service to go and yell at parents trying to pick up their children from school. Not only did I find this extremely unprofessional I found it discriminatory towards our high school students. This is for Robin at Studio 55 Salon Suites. Just to be clear, Studio 55 is made up of individual stylists who rent individual suites within Studio 55. Each stylist had their own products that they use, make their own prices, and have their own strengths and weaknesses. I see Robin Hayes at Studio 55. I have been seeing Robin since I was 15 years old - and I am going on 29. I live in the Bay Area now but I happily make the drive to get my hair done by Robin. :) Robin has always been politely honest, open, and dedicated. I trust her judgement and my hair always turns out fantastic. I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair. For my blonde high lights, she uses Framesi products but also uses Redken for coloring as well. She has various shampoos and conditioners but her favorite to use is Color Proof. As far as styling goes, she can do it all. I went to her for my proms and dances. And I intend to call upon her when I get married. She has given me everything from beachy waves to glamorous up dos. Prices vary. It is a little expensive but well worth it in my opinion. For my highlights, shampoo, cut, and style it comes to about $165 and that includes tip. My only con is that it's hard to book with her. I have to text her a month in advance to snag a date and time. But that's partly my fault too because my schedule is just as crazy as hers. I will continue to come to see Robin at Studio 55 until the day she retires .... Which will be a very sad day for me. ;( read more

Janae is very nice and friendly and does awesome work, but unfortunately she was too unreliable. So I had to go in search for another place and fortunately I found one that also has individual suites and does great work. The receptionists here seem very clueless about a lot of things and there is poor communication between the receptionists and the staff that rents there, so you're time gets messed up. The salon was never very busy, almost felt depressing. The parking is really bad, too. read more

I had an appt today with my stylist. After my appt I needed to join a meeting, since I did not have time to go home. I was in the customer lounge speaking normal tone. Robin who is a hair stylist comes over in a rude tone to inform me I am too loud and need to keep it down because she can hear me from her office which was false since her office was not as close as the others. I went in for a consultation with one hair stylist for a color correction, she seemed very hesitant and unwilling to help. Then I thought no problem I'll contact another stylist at this facility maybe they'll be able to help. I exchanged texts and pictures to the other stylist who again was closed off and unwilling to help. I spoke to 3 stylist from here. I thought maybe it's a lot of work to color correct, still doesn't justify the lack of communication and how I was turned away without giving me a chance. Now I have to deal with the previous stylist patchy work. They may be good at just a normal cut and color. Do not go for color correction or lightening hair, they may NOT be able to help you. read more

What a beautiful place! I love the concept! It's a bunch of cute, individual, little suites that were all glass and decorated ever so cute! Instead of just renting a booth, they rent a "suite" and it had everything they need all right there PLUS it gives them and the client privacy! The rooms make you want to come and get something done! Kelly was a no-show to our confirmed appointment for June 20th at 10am. As hair salons in the county where I live in the Bay Area are still not open and I have an upcoming wedding to attend in a couple weeks, I thought I would try to get in on my way TO or FROM a Tahoe weekend getaway. Kelly said she had an opening on the day I was heading home. I got up at 6:00am to assure I would have enough time to get ready and pack my belongings and be on-time as I respect people's time and do not like to be late for appointments like these. I checked out of my hotel 4+ hours earlier than I needed to, arrived at 9:35am and texted Kelly 10 minutes BEFORE our appointment to let her know I was early. No response. I was able to get inside and checked the suite number she gave me. Lights off, no one there. I texted her again 10 minutes AFTER our scheduled appointment. No response. At 10:30, I decided to just head back to the Bay Area (disappointed). Twenty minutes after I left, Kelly texted that she was sorry and had booked me for the 27th. In our texts, she stated she had an opening on the 20th so I am not sure what happened there. She texted again later saying that if I wanted to come at the time she actually scheduled me for NEXT WEEK that she would throw in a haircut for free. Although a nice gesture, I do not live close by and am not driving 90+ minutes for her to MAYBE show up next time. There are closer hair salons open to me now. Pretty disappointed that I could have enjoyed more time in Tahoe (as it was a beautiful day) and not have been in such a rush but I was VERY excited to get my hair done and start feeling like a human being again. My last salon appt was in early February and my 2 at-home root touchups were not the best. On the plus side, while I waited, there were many ladies leaving with BEAUTIFUL hair from the stylists that were there so I'm sure the place is good overall. I would just recommend confirming with your stylist the day before your appointment to make sure they show - I sure wish I had! read more

She was able to cut my hair the way I wanted it and with no pictures ( although she did say please bring them) She was able to explain to me why she made the cuts she was doing. I worked with Kelly Morse at To Dye For. I had a Groupon for a Cut & Style with a Redken conditioning treatment and full highlights. She did a fabulous job! she made my hair so soft and voluminous, and the color was absolutely beautiful! When I first called to schedule, she called me right back, which was nice. I got there just a few minutes before my appointment time and she took me right in. She gave me her honest opinion of what she thought would look best on my hair, which I really appreciated because sometimes we get carried away with what we find on Pinterest and want (guilty!) I already referred my mom and a friend to get their hair done by her too! As for what was done to my hair, we settled on a Balayage since I have auburn/dark blonde hair and she didn't want to go all-out bleached highlights as it would make my hair orange. I have super thick and wavy hair as well and she took her time and put 100% into it which I was impressed from since usually hairdressers give up halfway through. She trimmed my hair too and cut my bangs, which I am OBSESSED with! She is a master at handling bangs! The finished product was a really nice sun-kissed dirty blonde, and everywhere I have gone today I have gotten compliments on my cut and color! LOVE IT! Strongly recommend going to her!! read more

I can't say that this entire salon is bad as a whole, but I can definitely say that one of their employees, barbie, is just plain awful. Several people I know and myself have been to her and every single person quotes, "she is beyond unprofessional". I'm not sure how you get clientele by running around telling people their hair just looks awful and continuing to make other remarks about others hair to the rest of her clients. Did she ever think maybe that person has a sickness or disease that enables them from having the best hair? I'm sure she hasn't, because she's too self-centered to think of anything like that. Came in ten minutes early for the appointment only to find nobody at the reception desk.... Even though other stylists peeked through and tried to help locate Kacee, luck was not on my side. She finally rushed through the door, fifteen minutes late, without looking up. She did not come out to see if her appointment was there, when in fact she just saw that no one was at the front desk and I scheduled this appointment weeks ago. One of the workers once again had to go and get her to let her know. She finally made an appearance, a little after 25 minutes of the scheduled time. She was curt and made me feel like she was annoyed with me showing up. Yes, I know I am a groupon client, but that does not give a person the right to be treated like sh%#. My haircut and style turned into a ten minute trim. The way she had voiced and her face expression the option if I wanted the style and wash made me feel like I was taking up her time. She was irritated with me. I barely said a few sentences there trying to break the ice... I drove for forty minutes there just to be treated this way? I know we all have our bad days, but to treat another human being this way, it's just uncalled for. I was close to tears, and could not get away fast enough from there. Still not sure why in the hell I left a tip... Was so frustrated with this appointment, that I actually created a yelp profile in order to leave my review for her... Good luck to everyone who chooses to get their hair done here, hope the same experience does not happen to them. Never ever again. P.S. If you are sensitive to smells, might want to skip making an appointment after lunch. horrible experience!! I went to lori coray to get highlights, my hair is very dark brown and i wanted to get blonde highlights. Iv had dark hair for so long i wanted to switch it up. I asked for her opinion on how to do It (like thick or thin highlights) she said she wouldn't go blonde on me. (rude- so people with dark hair cant get highlights? just do your job lady) Then... She answered a phone call and told her friend she couldn't pick her up before the baby shower she had to attend because she had to do my hair and it would take her all night. Then told me "good thing you came in early". I probably should of gotten up then and left but i really wanted to get my hair done that day. She then talked about her groupon and how trashy people she had from elk grove and sacramento and how an indian woman only tipped her 3 bucks. NO ONE CARES! ..Very disrespectful of her talking about other clients to me, it made me wonder what she would tell people about me. I also asked for wine so i could try to tone her out more lol. She continued talking about herself the whole time... When she finished, the cut looked good but my hair was ORANGE !!!! i didn't notice until I got home and my husband pointed it out I was about to cry. My hair was half blonde half orange!!!! Was at this salon the other day, decided to splurge on my daughter. What a terrible mistake! Went to Stephanie and my daughter's hair looked nothing at all like she wanted. She brought many photos and was told it could be done but after a small fortune, which I still can't believe I paid after not getting what we asked for, we kept getting told how her next client had been waiting. Talk about a waste of money, my daughter had yellow hair afterwards, all the time saying she wanted to look natural. The next day we went to Ulta and had a great stylist make her hair look less yellow and more natural in about 20 min. I'm sure there must be plenty of wonderful stylists there but we just got the wrong one. read more

Jazz is playing, great lighting and fun throw pillows make you feel so comfortable! I love how it's so private! She always has the best ideas on what to do with your hair, today she recommended a golden splash to give my hair some warmth and also so I won't see my roots so soon. Most hairdressers want you to come back in 4 weeks to get that $$. She really looks out for you and wants what's best for your hair and will be honest what looks good and bad on you. The overall feel of Studio 55 is light and friendly, the decor inviting and sophisticated and the font desk attendants are always friendly and helpful. I really like the privacy of the individual mini-salons and the amenities are a stand-out!! freshly brewed coffee, bottled water and WIFI. I walked in to get my son's haircut and the manner in which I was "dismissed" was appalling. I am a business owner but was dressed in jeans this day (I still had about 50,000.00 in jewelry on) and was greeted with raised eyebrows and "I am sure we don't have any available stylists". The receptionist made a circle which took all of 30 seconds and came back to inform me that no one was available. In the meantime a stylist peered out the first shop glass partition and again raised her eyebrows, rolled her eyes and shook her head at me as if to say" tsk, tsk". I will inform all our female clients to not bother going to this "business" unless they are ready to be belittled. Needless to say, my medical facility is within a two mile radius and non of the staff in my building will be going there for any service.
