I wanted to save my back but didn't want to break the bank on super expensive movers. I have used The Student Movers two times now and I can happily say that my back is in top notch shape and my bank account is none the worse for wear! I had never hired movers before so I appreciated their website which explained the process and services available. I booked online then a friendly operator called to confirm my appointment and helped me estimate how many movers and time I should book for my specific circumstance. During my first move we had a relatively small two bedroom place in Hermosa Beach so I hired two movers inclusive of moving truck. They handled the narrow streets and staircase with ease. The truck was just the right size to fit all our stuff so they are good at estimating. My next experience was just as good, but this time we needed to put most of our stuff into storage for a few months. The Student Movers came to the rescue again and on short notice provided 3 guys who helped us strategically pack our Pod in Long Beach. They were amazingly efficient and even helped get our stuff into the boxes themselves since we weren't completely packed up by the time they arrived for the appointment. I gave all of our movers a tip at the end of both moves since they did such a good job. I will definitely be using them again. read more

Matt, Joe, and Aiden did such an efficient job in moving my father's belongings from his home to my residence. It was an especially stressful time, as my father had just passed away and I was on a time crunch to move out his things within a very limited time. We booked these movers to empty a truck that had come cross country. We needed a three man crew. They were scheduled for 8am Sunday morning. They didn't show up so I called them and was told they only had one mover available and that they were going to try to find two more men, but couldn't guarantee they would be able to come that day. 12.6.21 update (now that I've got the time) - This update is for any unsuspecting customers who may be considering using this company. If you have read the initial review and the owner's response, you might be able to figure out why there was a disconnect. If you were to read this owner's responses to other customers complaints about his company, you might also see how he might treat you. Several facts about my interaction with this company had been written incorrectly by this owner: 1)The husband and wife team I'd previously used was not available for hire on that date or I would have gladly requested them again. 2) Details about what I wanted moved were also fabricated; I don't own a "treadmill" or a "full weight set with bench," it was actually two sets of weights that were 3 and 11lbs dumbbells each, a stationary bike plus a twin size hospital bed and I still don't know the weight of the deep freezer, so whatever the extra cost for more people was, I was willing to pay(I told her that). 3) I couldn't refute the highway laws or the multiple stops, so I told the owner's mother I'd give in and pay whatever the cost was (I told her that but she must not have heard that part either, because she kept repeating herself on that point). 4) There was NO "entire house" to pack up, I lived in my sister's living room space so it was just that hospital bed, two sets of weights, a freezer, a bike and four plastic bins that contained my clothes and toiletries and a $1,500 budget in which to accomplish my moving goal. 5) To respond to this owner's "did not call comment", I did not call, and he is correct. I sent out emails to HIM specifically. I called on 4.12.21 to make sure there were no issues with my add-ons, but surprise, surprise!!! Customers, I'll say it again: be careful who you choose to move your belongings. I HAD to open a Yelp account just to address this company and say that if it happened to me, it could happen to you as well. Stay safe out there everyone! read more

My experience with student movers was not the best. Initially I called and spoke with Michelle who quoted me the rate. I specifically asked if it was all inclusive or were there additional charges ex.. GAS and she said no unless you're moving far away so, I booked online. Move day: the movers showed up early(yay) and we're very courteous but it was clearly obvious they've never moved anyone or were new and had no clue how to pack a truck. I moved cross country with a piano and packed the same size truck but this move took them 2 trips for some reason. No worries again, initial experience so far so good. But... When they arrived at my new house every thing fell apart. Pieces went missing some small items broke(oh well, the cost of moving) And I ended up moving a lot of items as well. I had to rearrange the mess they left because as I was directing them they weren't listening. Then they driver quoted me one price and then Michelle is telling me it's an additional 10% fee for gas which was never disclosed on the website or when I booked my move. Ugh a complete mess. I'd hire someone else if you are looking for movers. Bottom line is other moving companies have gone above and beyond. And it turned out that my wife and I did a ton of work which was unnecessary. Also some items were left out in the rain when the screened porch was less than a foot away We took apart the beds and hardware was lost. My 100 yr old grandfather clock is also broken. They NEVER SHOWED UP! I made the appointment, received confirmation phone calls from BOTH their scheduling team and the mover himself, and then on moving day, NOTHING. We waited and waited. They were due to our house at 10 am, after 2 hours of my calling all the numbers I had for this company, I finally got a call back from Jackie. She was apologetic, but said no one was coming and there was really nothing she could do for us except transfer the truck rental to us and we could go pick it up. I can rent my own truck, thank you very much. We have two children under 2 years old, and were really trying to rent the BODIES to help us. We had to scramble to find someone else, and paid an exorbitant fee due to the emergent situation. This company ended up costing us way more than we had intended to pay. I do not recommend this business at all. To be brief, they forgot my appointment, showed up 3 hours late, forgot their Ids and requested for me to use my license to rent the truck, then charged me the maximum amount to move a very small amount of stuff 45 miles. All told it cost me almost 6 hrs and 500.00 to move a bed, 2 bookshelves, a chair and 6 plastic containers from Orange County to Torrance. Do not make the same mistake. I will not be using Student Movers again. While the move itself went fairly smooth, the movers dropped and broke an antique piece that I described to them (before the move) as irreplaceable and fragile. I was upset, but I was assured we would have a recourse to recover the damages, and a liability clause indicating as much was also included in our contract. However, after repeated attempts to speak with the owner, we are being snubbed. I am now filing a claim with Hire a Helper, the agency who booked us with Student Movers. We called Student Movers for a last minute move. We were moving from a rental in Murrieta to our new home that we purchased about 1/2 mile away. The company was very polite and helpful. On the day of the move, our movers showed up in a rental truck from Penske. I don't have a problem with this, but they showed up without any materials to make the move, other than moving blankets which they didn't use enough of. This company attempted to move my large refrigerator with a normal hand truck. I observed the wheels almost flat as they moved it to the front door. They took the handles off and proceeded through the door. When it got stuck, they forced it through and the bolts the handles connect to took deep gouges out of the front door of the rental house. There was no apology only "God damn it we got the door." On several occasions I went out to look into the back of the truck. They didn't use any shrink wrap or protective blankets for our larger, heavier furniture. When the furniture was delivered to the house, we noticed many scratches, scuffs, and gouges in our dining room furniture and book cases. When they left the rental, they literally threw about 15 moving blankets into the back of the truck that they didn't use. These could have protected our furniture, but they went unused. As they began to pull away from the house, the lift gate wasn't up all the way and the back door was not pulled down. They got to the stop sign and realized items were beginning to fall out of the back, so they stopped and fixed everything. Along with the damage that was done, it also took them an unreasonable amount of time to make the move. We have moved several times and always it was done in about 4 hours. This time I disassembled the bedroom furniture prior to them getting to the house and had most of it in the hall way in pieces. I wanted this move to go fast because we were strapped for money. It took the movers to move a three bedroom house, with most of the furniture disassembled almost 7 hours. I find that to be excessive. I read another review on their Facebook page and it stated the same complaint about how long it took them to move. When I called on Monday afternoon to complain, I believe it was Shawn that said I had called right before 5:00. He was going to send me an email with the customer survey information. On Tuesday when I got home from work, we still had no email, so I called and got Shawn's voice message. At this point I was a little peeved on how I was treated. I didn't receive any kind of return call. About twenty minutes later I received the email at 4:50. I guess I need to call at ten minutes to five to get any kind of assistance. I am very disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. I have filled out their report and am waiting to hear what they say. i have also lodged complaints on their Facebook page and the Better Business Bureau. Well they were suppose to start at 12:30pm but they didn't arrive till about 3pm.. That's the only bad thing. They called and said they'll be late due to a move that was more then then the customer said over the phone. They kept communication with me the whole time. When they arrived at my apartment they knocked it out in less then an hour (i had mostly everything boxed up). These guys moved fast and were professional (Steve and another guy name Steve). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! We scheduled a move, received multiple confirmations they would be there, and then nobody showed up. The company had no one to answer phones (our moving day was on a Sunday). Fortunately one of the confirmation calls was from the cell phone of the employee. She was only able to confirm the driver was MIA. We were given the option to pick up the truck ourselves, which we would still have to pay for, and we would still have no help, or we could have someone there on Monday. I don't believe they would show up then, at which time it should have been free, and I have a job, hence the weekend move. What a horrible business. read more

I needed some last minute help for a move to Murrieta after my dad unfortunately fell ill. I hired the guys for solo labor to just load my truck from my apartment ; since I had already reserved a UHaul truck. They showed up right on time and were ready to work. I was amazed at how fast and efficient they were! In 2 hours they got all my boxes, couch (which is ridiculously heavy and hard to move), dresser, dining table, and desk. This Manager Shawn that responded is a liar. I ordered a move for a 4 bedroom home and 3200 sq ft and have the confirmation email to prove it. He is covering for his mother who made the mistake in underestimating the project. I did not order a 4th guy - they sent him for training. My furniture was NOT damaged prior and I have pictures of it 2 weeks prior to prove it as well as house guests for a going away party that can attest to that. The original bill was $1400, I paid $1030 after the $250 discount and Ricardo not charging me for the last half hour. I did try to complain earlier by leaving a voicemail and an email for a Manager to contact me. I wasn't called until almost the end. Horrible experience! read more

These guys were excellent! 2 of them moved my fully stuffed 16ft truck up 3 flights of stairs in 2.25 hours....the were knowledgeable, courteous and a bargain! I got stuck in a bind when movers cancelled and they were willing to help me on a same day move. Michelle there dispatch was really good at what she was doing but the team itself was giving a runaround. On a four bedroom move, 20 miles away ended up costing me 3452$. There communication is very bad and the driver will tell you he's an hour out when he's four hours out. I had less in this move then my last and they couldn't fit my stuff on a 26 foot truck it should have fit. this company took Advantage of somebody who really needed help on the same day. I have moved at least 10 times in the last 15 years and never in my life have I been taking advantage of until this day. Michelle there dispatch was very rude to my wife and myself in the end and did not care about our feelings all she cared about was state law. The owner Sean was even worse he did not care about helping us except taking the money. The crew showed up at 11 PM at night and then failed to tell me that there is an overnight charge because they were too tired to finish the job so they left the truck in front of my house costing me $200. In the end I'm not blaming the people who moved me they tried their best with what they had in the situation I had I do blame Michelle and Sean for their lack of leadership of their actual teams and the proper training. They run there crew to the ground they should of never taken this job and put the safety of there team in jeopardy, these guys were on 22 hours of straight work. Im sure there is a law on that alone.
