If I could give this company zero stars, I would. This was one of the most stressful, disorganized, and dishonest service experiences I've had. I've used multiple moving companies before and never had a problem. This company was recommended by my realtor. After my experience, she told me she will no longer recommend them to her clients. I was hesitant to post this review because I was worried they would not complete the repairs they owed me. It has taken over two months to resolve the damage they caused. The Estimate: Shane, the estimator, came to my home and quoted $6,200 to: * Pack my belongings * Move them out * Store them for one month * Move them to my new home (60 miles away) Packing was quoted at approximately $1,100 as a flat fee. After the estimate, I significantly reduced what I was moving. I removed numerous items and chose not to bring two large pieces of furniture, including a sectional. The final billing did not reflect that reduction. Packing Day - No Show: The packers did not show up on the scheduled date (confirmed in writing). I took off work and had to follow up myself. Hours later, I was told they were not coming and would instead pack on moving day. Move-Out Day - Changing Payment Terms: Five workers arrived (unclear who were packers vs. movers). They were there roughly 9am-2pm. Beforehand, Shane told me I owed 30% that day. When presented with the bill, I was told I owed approximately $4,000 because they used "more packing materials than expected." They could not provide a detailed breakdown. After calling Shane again, I was told I owed 50% instead -- just 20 minutes after being told 30%. I paid 50% only after being assured the total would not exceed the estimate. They encouraged me not to pay by credit card due to a 3% fee. That was a mistake. Always pay with protection. Storage Charges: I was charged for 7 vaults based on the original estimate, not the reduced inventory. This was approximately $500 per month. They only held my belongings for 10 days, and the items were never even taken off the truck. Move-In & Damage: Boxes were poorly labeled and items from different rooms were packed together. Packing material use was excessive to the point of absurdity (five sheets of paper to wrap a single plastic straw). They dented my refrigerator and washer. They broke my custom handmade dining table. Repair Process: Nancy, the manager, was rude and dismissive from the beginning. She repeatedly told me she was "doing me a favor" by not charging more for packing. She did not return calls when promised. I had to follow up constantly. They resisted agreeing to repair the table, then delayed paying for it. It took over two and a half months to resolve. Even the third party they hired said the company stopped responding to him, forcing him to rent a trailer and pay someone out of pocket to return my repaired table. Final Thoughts: This company is overpriced, disorganized, and avoids accountability. The lack of transparency, shifting payment demands, careless packing, and prolonged repair delays are unacceptable. Proceed at your own risk. We moved within San Diego County, and we must give our 5 star thoughts on R & R moving. First, is the estimator. He worked with us from the first phone call. He was up front with 'fees' and expected possible charges after the move. 2nd it was the 3 fantastic and hard working gentleman that helped us move. These guys were non-stop loading a big semi trailer for 4 hours, then having to drive for another 1/2 hour, and then unloading for 4 hours.... non-stop. During the course, they were PROFESSIONAL, COURTEOUS, and sometimes would give us a smile or laugh while progressing with the move. Every time I saw the truck I thought OMG this will take all day. But now, they did it. Unloading, trip by trip. What made the best of everything was how they followed our directions, they were careful with EVERYTHING to avoid damages to boxes, furniture or property. And again, the smiles and positive. We don't have enough words, the crew that was assigned to us just worked really hard through the day. Moving is a very difficult job. Consider R&R Moving because you cannot go wrong. And yes, they unfortunately went 1.5 hours OVER the estimate and we gladly paid the bill and tip. It's important to note that they did NOT pull stunts you hear in stories, about how you must pay the rest BEFORE they unload, and cash or else they take your property. NO, they gave me the final bill after unloading was done (we had given a deposit to lock the schedule). True to the estimate. I was hiring them to help me move my sons storage unit, make sure they sent me a pay form. It did not go through all three times for my debit so they told me I could pay with my checking account. I paid with my checking account. They showed up the next day and tried to charge me 21,000 after they gave me a $13,000 quote. They said they will not refund me due to writing a check. I could not get a refund from my bank either I could not dispute it. They stole from me please do not use this company. Do not trust them. read more

The worst experience ever. Didn't do what they told us they were going to do.. We moved from California to Texas and they told us they were going to send 3 guys from their company to drive and unload the truck and they ended up reloading almost all of our stuff ( that they didn't loose) into another truck and haul it across the country. The guys that came to move us were friendly but they don't care about your stuff. We had so many things broken and packed so poorly. One guy packed a really nice plant and put snow ski boot on top of the plant and destroyed it. They packed items and brought them that were supposed to stay in California. The people they hired to unload the truck when it finally got here 2 weeks after it was packed, were not caring at all. They didn't put down any protective blankets on the floors and scratched the wood floors everywhere that were just refinished. So I have to get that fixed. There are missing boxes and broken items and destroyed items. It is very sad to have things that you cherished or really wanted to find out that you aren't ever going to get back or see again. Very disappointing and sad we used them. Please for your own items look for a better more reputable company to move your life across the country or anywhere. read more

I don't post many reviews, but this is one that i feel needs to be vetted to anyone looking at a moving company first off STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVING COMPANY!!!!! so, we were moving from menifee, ca to trenton texas and actually were refered to R&R, i'lll start with the limited good, packers were very friendly at both ends, were considerate and worked hard,,, that's about it for the positive, the negatives are as follows,,,, first, the packers here at menifee, ca left the home with trash, water bottlers all over the house and garage. they also left a number of items hanging on walls, and around the house when the finally package up and left. but her is the major issues that we encountered,,,,, first, were suppose to arrive on friday, our final delivery of our furnishings didn't happen till sunday,,, - Driver showed up on Saturday with the moving crew, when he was backing up down the drive way (which he had some significant problems with) he got caught up in a internet fios cable running across the driveway, and as a result the cable fell down and completely blocked our driveway.. when i spoke to JOHN, he informed me that if we can't get the cable out of the way, they were going to charge me an additional 2100 dollars for a shuttle service, ARE YOU KIDDING ME, his driver hits a cable and they have they nerve to tell me i'm going to have to pay extra, unbelievable,, so, as a result i had to pay 600 dollars to buy two 20 foot ladders to prop up the wire so my furniture could be delivered, and BTW JOHN continues to take zero responsibility for HIS driver hitting the wire,, i was told that R& R couldn't absorb any additional cost for a shuttle service to get my house hold items delivered and took absolutely ZERO responsibility for their driver hitting the wire by the street and blocking our driveway,, i would never recommend this company to move anything for me and the attitude and arrogance of the owner JOHN was beyond frustrating. I was told by a very close friend to go with the larger, established moving company's, but unfortunately i decided to give this place a shot, BAD, BAD DECISION. DO NOT HIRE RUFF/READY, AKA: R&R Relocation ....UNLESS/OF COURSE you want to be ripped off, lied to, AND I'm just talking about John the owner. It's the company's MO. Paid for Pack/ship. At least 25 of boxes not filled to capacity. i.e. Lg box with a small foldable laundry basket. BUT? This was more to store/move. Pretty clever? From the outset we requested and were "guaranteed" a specific delivery date, booked with Allen the salesman. Also, Allen visits the site to assess the kind/amount/sizes of the goods being moved. No guesswork. Throughout this storage timeframe; in conversations with Nancy-OPERATIONS MGR, and Allen SALES, (when you can reach them, or receive a return phone call) we were assured of the date was reserved. Never were we advised the date is a preferred not guarantee. Only R&R knows this, as this difference was never mentioned. Delivery week arrives, as well as a demand call from the "driver." Demanding and trying to guilt us into an early delivery date because he was days ahead on his route and we were costing him time and hotel expenses for the days he had to wait. Who's to blame for this error? We were, of course! Take the delivery early is the never subtle message. Once you meet Jeremy, you know immediately he is unprofessional, unprepared, and generally unhappy. His treatment of his unloading crew is abhorrent. As my home was being unpacked; the moving team was loud and vocal about how much content was in the truck and had to be moved into the house. And, How it would take past 6PM before they could leave. Oh! Once the truck was empty our contract was for complete set up of furniture and unpacking the boxes. To include hauling away of all packing boxes and paper to what we believed to be a recycling warehouse. Upon Jeremey's arrival, he did his initial walk through. We began to discuss the over $200 additional fees we paid for the covering of our 2600 sq ft of new hardwood flooring. Perhaps as Jeremy waited in his hotel room, he should have spent time reading his contract. Jeremy brought ZERO protective material. We had kept the floor installers path coverings we were using prior to their arrival. So this was what was used as well a few moving pads. We got to pay our Floor Installers for protective floor covering, AND save R&R money as they used our covering. Along with Jeremy repeatedly reminding us throughout the day he was using moving pads as a floor covering, that cost $12+++each. As if it was a favor and our fault. As the clock reached 6 PM Jeremy suggests not unpacking the house. His team was tired. Let the team leave and call the office to have this amount ($1300) refunded off the bill. We agreed. Getting Jeremy out of our faces was worth it to us. Although, as we knew. Disposing the movwing packing paper, boxes etc we quite a challenge. We are seniors, so, everything is a bit more challenging for us. We call the office. The refund runaround yes, the actual R&R run around . Nancy doesn't know. Allen isn't involved Sales is his department, not operations! Days pass. John the owner finally returns our calls. Only to with a refusal to refund any money. But, instead promise to speak to Jeremy and to dig into why Jeremy is refusing to refund the $1300. John explains this money belongs to Jeremy. No matter the fact that EVERY check was written to and cashed by RUFF & READY / R&R Relocation. John explains only with weeks prior could we have cancelled this service. We explained we just added this service to our move. When we added the service, we were never told the cancellation parameters had already expired; (very important) Nor; did Jeremy offer these conditions as a choice to us prior to considering sending the team home early. John didn't know why he didn't. John didn't know why Allen agreed/committed to a dedicated delivery date. John was surprised Nancy was "supposedly" aware of this promise of delivery date commitment. Jeremy was understandably frustrated with waiting three days from arrival to delivery. John stated he discussed this refund with Jeremy and Jeremy is refusing. Afterall, Jeremy paid the team already. John has no control over the money paid or giving a refund? Only Jeremy can say yes or no. Paying John because Jeremy works for John doesn't matter. Huh? John said he would talk to Jeremy and get back to us within 24 hours. To date it has been over 24 hours, it has been over 72 hours, it has been more than 99 hours, we are approaching 1500 hours, since the 24 hours call back promise. No call back. No email. No letter. No effort to resolve a problem. No interest to accept or understand that everyone in his company lies to their customers with no remorse. We gave John's company, not Allen not Nancy' and certainly not Jeremy's $25K charged for the move, So, the $25K doesn't buy a return phone call From the owner? Please do not even consider Ruff & Ready / R&R Relocation for your next move unless you too want to be ripped off! read more

I am soo happy I chose this company! I have never moved out of state before. But my husband had to move for his job and it was very short notice to move from California to Illinois. I spoke with a few companies and they wouldn't come out for an estimate and I was worried cause I've heard many horror stories about moving. I met with Allen and he came out and was super knowledgeable and helpful! He gave me and my husband an estimate and then even included packing and without. We have a newborn baby so we decided to go with packing so we didn't have to stress about it. They were able to fit us in on the day we needed to move which I'm so grateful for!! We hired ruff and ready twice. The first was moving my parents house contents into storage after they sold their house while their new home is being built. Everything was well packaged and carefully placed. The guys were respectful and careful with all of their belongings. The second and most recent this week was to hire the guys to take everything out of storage and out of state to the new house. I would like to say Jose, Mike and the crew who loaded the trailer were fantastic. Enjoyable, respectful, careful with everything and just an all around great experience. Jose was the lead and big rig driver who brought everything out of state and was communicative the whole time over the two days of transport. He and the crew at the new house were amazing. Again so respectful and friendly and hard working. I really wanted to like and give a positive recommendation for Ruff and Ready Moving. Unfortunately, I DO NOT RECOMMEND RUFF AND READY to move your belongings. My initial consult was great. They were on time for the day of the move. The move took way longer than initially quoted and cost us an extra $800! We had a handful of things damaged. We decided to only claim our very expensive dinning room chair that was only 1 year old. When submitting my claim for a broken dining room chair the office was so disorganized. It took months to get a resolution. I submitted the claim 3x! People in the office kept loosing the paperwork. The instructions on the claim paper stated to fax in the documents. Weeks go by, I call to get an update and they said the fax associated to the number on the claim form isn't anywhere in the office and they don't know where it goes. So not only is my personal formation floating around somewhere, I had to redo and submit the documents several times. Different people from the office kept asking for photos of the damaged chair. I sent the photos on 3 different occasions but no surprise they didn't have record of them. I am so disappointed in this company. My very expensive chair was broke by your workers and my reimbursement was $12!!!! SERIOUSLY!!! Your company wasted my time!!! I had to provide proof of purchase and cost of damaged items, a page long application with specific details, photos of the damaged chair and send all this multiple times via fax, email and multiple follow up phone calls. All this for a lousy $12! You can keep your $12 dollars and the fact my family and anyone we know will not be using you! We had contracted with them to provide labor to help us get a large glass-front curio from our driveway into our home, since the freight delivery company claimed they were unable to bring it inside. On the day it was to be delivered, I called to confirm the delivery window and was told that they could not fit the curio in any of their box trucks and that they would not bring a larger tractor trailer because it was a residential neighborhood. They were basically refusing to deliver our curio to us! So, we called Ruff and Ready again and, within an hour, they had made arrangements to drive to Riverside and pick up our piece of furniture. Not only did Ernie and his team deliver it to us successfully, but they were meticulous in unwrapping and setting up our curio. They did a terrific job all around and we were extremely pleased! I've had some bad experience with shady moving companies in the past and I can say I would use Ruff and Ready again in a heartbeat. Jian and his team were awesome. They were professional, considerate, followed direction and asked us where and how we wanted everything they touched. And not a single item was lost, broken or even damaged. For the most part everything was really good for my move, except for a few hiccups. Paul came by and did my free estimate and was quick, but over quoted me by about 6 hours worth of labor, which turned out to be a good thing because it shows how quickly their people move things. I was constantly reminded that the morning of they would arrive between 8 and 9 AM, but multiple phone calls later they did not arrive until after 10 AM. The three guys moved everything quickly and efficiently, but my coffee table was damaged in the process. Moving is very stressful and as a single woman, I was clear on my situation. I was quoted 9 hours and 3 men to assist with some packing, disassembling furniture and TVs and packing those. They had an estimator come out as well to go over each item to give an "accurate" quote. The estimator I assume works off commission. Well once the movers were here, I tried to thoroughly communicate everything but I still had to stop them from sending stuff to the wrong place on many occasions and no wonder stuff got lost and packed up. My dresser got packed and stuffed in the middle of my storage with my socks and underwear still in it. Yes they knew I was still working around that area. I also asked what happened to my HDMI cords and was told they were put in a box when I needed them with me. They couldn't tell me which box in order to retrieve it which is now also lost in permanent storage packed full. This was a stressful experience to say the least but to add to it, it ended up taking 13 1/2 hours. I had to make special arrangements with the owner of the storage facility to go past gate hours finishing up close to 10pm. The lunch break should have been an hour including drive time between the first and second stop but it ended up being an hour and 45 minutes. Many "5 minute" smoke breaks that were really more like 15 minutes. Many times I saw one guy standing around watching the other guys. Maybe he was directing I don't know, however I felt efficiency needs much improvement as well as solid communication. I can't be 3 places at once so I felt they could have been more hands on with communicating and helping me which is what I thought I was paying for. Then I'm being told it's my fault and it's a 2 day job by the guy who gets paid hourly and I'm being charged hourly. Makes sense. I don't feel good about it. Update and response: it is pretty pathetic that the movers are attempting to blame me for their incompetence. I was clear when the job was quoted what needed to be done including removing TVs and packing. I was clear I needed full service movers, not half ass movers. It's ok, it's totally my fault again for being taken advantage of by douche bag men who think their shit don't stink. This company is a joke. Dragging my move out and packing my storage so I cannot get to ANYTHING and wanting to charge me to fix their bad work is hilarious. No stars from me. Don't waste your time. Crooks. read more

One star is generous. They RUINED irreplaceable pieces. We are a military family and have been packed and moved many times. We have NEVER had a problem with any of our moves in the past. Until this one. We are devastated at the lack of care that was taken with our property. We paid for a full pack and move and were told that everything would be packed carefully. Things were left in drawers, clothes and items. They left a laptop (unwrapped) in our sofa table drawer that got so wedged in that we had to take it apart to remove it. They did not empty and pack one drawer, dressers, organizers, cubbies, etc. 10 pieces of paper used on a Lego set and zero paper used on crystal. It was unbelievable! They broke and hid our wrought iron patio set behind a fence at the new house. They broke one of the legs on our traeger grill. We had a $130.00 life sized ceramic nutcracker decoration. They not only broke, but didn't even return all of the pieces. They broke corners off of several pieces of furniture. They completely lost the cord to one of our tvs. We still haven't been able to find & order a replacement. They packed the feet to our entertainment center in 4 different boxes to four different rooms. It took us 3 weeks to find them all. The worst one was a little ceramic fountain that belonged to my aunt. My uncle gave it to me for my birthday the year that she passed away. They broke it and I can't even find all of the pieces to try and glue it back together. DEVASTATING! I thought that because we paid so much money we could trust them. I was so wrong. I've seen our 5 year old nephew pack things with more care than this company did. We have pictures to back all of this up. This company does NOT use trustworthy packers, PLEASE BEWARE! They are the cheapest for a reason! I wouldn't trust this company to pack and move a roach motel. MILITARY BEWARE!! Use this company AT YOUR OWN RISK! I am currently working with the Navy in San Diego to get this company banned for military personnel. How much do you want to bet that they "search" their records and don't find my name?
