We LOVED this place! We live in Georgetown, but my husband surprised me with a birthday-getaway into Austin & I'm so glad he found Strickland Arms. We loved everything about this B&B - it literally is a hidden paradise. The rooms, the grounds, the pool - all amazing! The location is fantastic too - right in the middle o a quiet Austin neighborhood with top notch dining and entertainment 5 minutes away. We couldn't recommend this place enough and we will now be back every year for my birthday!

It isn't "fancy" but Barbara and her husband are super nice people and make you feel so welcome.

Um, wow. This place is stellar…read more After a grueling trip from San Francisco, I landed in a room I reserved (not at the folk house) and found that it was flea infested. I couldn't find a new apartment to rent at that very moment, I just needed a place to sleep that night. It was late at night, I was tired, and sad, and my husband booked me at the folk house after I called him crying from the side of the road in a bad part of town. I got to my room at the folk house, plopped down on the beautiful bed and cried tears of joy. It was only the next morning when I woke up to the sweet smell of cinnamon and coffee that I realized how cool this place was. Amazing coffee, great staff (I arrived after breakfast was over and she immediately offered me left overs!! Awww.) great video selection, great (austin guide) books. I thought that my austin trip was in shambles after the flea place! But now here I am, on the free wi-fi, sitting bare-foot outside on their porch, eating a homemade cookie and watching the sunset. Glorious. For this price, I'm never going to stay anywhere else.

This was my first B&B experience, though I've previously lived in Austin. My favorite thing about this place is that is puts you in the heart of West Campus (where UT students live and play), which is my favorite part of town. It's an easy walk to just about anything you need (like CVS), bars, great places to eat, etc. It's within a mile of my favorite places: Spider House, Toy Joy, I Love Video, Wheatsville Co-op, Mellow Mushroom, etc. I stayed in room 9, and my only complaints were that the shower head didn't work (so I took a bath since it seemed pretty clean) and I had to lug my large suitcase up some narrow twisty stairs. But the house itself is charming, and I loved waking up to the smell of bacon. Breakfast was tasty, but quiet; there weren't other guests when I went down around 9 (breakfast is 8:30-10:30). My room was $110 + tax, which is cheaper than a lot of other nearby places. Definitely worth the price for the unique, homey experience and can't-be-beat location.

If you have a family, this is your place. For the same price that you would pay (okay, less) for a hotel elsewhere in Austin, you can bunk everyone. We stay in the king suite, meaning adults get a separate bedroom and children get the pull-out couch in the living room. Other configurations are available that are suitable for larger families or groups. There is no elevator, so be prepared to carry luggage upstairs. The room has a full kitchen, so you're not forced to eat out every night. Breakfast is included, and we're not talking waffles and cereal. The breakfast menu changes daily (choose from three selections), but you can also ask for whatever you like. The first day I had a bowl with steamed broccoli, potatoes, eggs, spinach and cheese. Yum! The next day I had eggs, tomato and spinach over wheat toast. Oatmeal is available, as are biscuits and gravy, bagels, and the rest of the regular lineup. Locally sourced greek yogurt and honeys are available as well. Fresh fruit is offered daily. On Day 2 that meant papaya. Yummy! Each evening offers free beer and wine with snacks, featuring their homemade salsa. My plans in Austin meant I never made it to this, which I consider a failure on my part. The grounds are beautiful, and feature fruit trees and herbs. A guide to what grows where is available in the lobby. Why should you not stay here? You want the five-star experience with bright shiny new everything (there's some peeling wallpaper in places, but everything is clean and well-maintained). You want to party loudly until all hours of the morning. Habitat keeps quiet hours from 9 pm to 8 am. I tend to stay out most of the day and return to sleep, so this place is right at my speed. It's hard for me to think of reasons you wouldn't want to stay here, but I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. I did have enough time this visit for some hanging out at the pool, and that was delightful. Habitat Suites are located across from a branch of Austin Community College. This area is undergoing revitalization, which is helpful for the Habitat Suites, I think. On our previous visit, the neighborhood looked a little sketchy. I didn't get that feeling with this visit. This is a fun gem in Austin ~ beautiful grounds, a great deal, and a restful, clean environment.

Arriving it may be kind of confusing. It's located all the way in the back. When ever we got an Uber/Lyft they had a slight issue finding the place. They have free breakfast, midday snacks, and WiFi. I believe there's a pool also but we didn't get the chance to look around considering our trip was short. We got a two bedroom room that had an upstairs room and one downstairs. It was very nice for the price point. Everything was kind of old but still was not disgusting. Housekeeping came and delivered extra towels, we didn't even call them. Not too far from local tourist spots.

I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. I can not wait to go on their ghost tour!
