I had a great stay at Brava House. Overall a peaceful and cozy place pretty close to downtown. This is an old Victorian home that is beautifully maintained. I loved that many of the furnishings / room decor was vintage, but still had modern conveniences like a TV (and I think a Roku?) and a fridge. I know it's not the number one thing people look for in a hotel, but the landscaping is really nice too. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever stayed in and I want to buy the towels for my house. For breakfast, we had french press coffee, a berry parfait and a hot egg taco thing. My sister and I stayed here for four nights in late May. This Victorian home is well cared for and provided a serene place to stay in the heart of Austin. Sherri and Bryan were a delight as were the members of the staff. The rooms were made for comfort and convenience. During our stay, it was necessary to leave before the stated time for breakfast. What a wonderfully enjoyable stay! Hubby and I took a long weekend mini vacation to Austin and decided we wanted to do a B&B and chose Brava House for its central location and reasonable price. I'm so happy we did because we had a lovely stay. Our room was perfect. We stayed in the Fitzgerald room which has a sitting room and a bed room with beautiful bay windows. It's decorated with some beautiful antique furniture pieces. Everything was very clean. The mattress was very comfortable. The shower has two shower heads. A hot breakfast is served every morning in the comfortable breakfast room. If you aren't familiar with B&B's, do not assume your breakfast will be hot! If this is something you expect, you better look into it before you chose your location. Many places serve only pastries and coffee. We were served delicious home cooked breakfast each morning. I definitely recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Austin! Location is great, price is great and service is great! read more

My wife and I have been staying at Brava House for more than 15 years of ACL festivals. It's not only a great location for the festival it's also a great location for accessing all that Austin has to offer. It is located in a neat little neighborhood (Clarksville) within walking distance to many restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. The rooms are all unique and are nicely furnished and very comfortable. New owners Bryan and Sherry are very accomodating and are in the process of making the rooms and grounds even more amazing. Even though it was our first year with them as our hosts we already felt like part of the family. I would recommend staying at Brava House for any trip to Austin, not just for ACL festival. read more

We stayed in the Garbo suite from December 6th, through the 9th. This is such a nice charming BnB with pretty landscaping, relaxing atmosphere and a great location (walking distance to restaurants, bars and 6th street). But most importantly, the owners (Bryan and Sheri) really make you feel at home and offer great conversation. Bryan is one funny dude, and he knows his history. My husband and I just spent 5 wonderful nights staying at the Bravo House. It exceeded our expectations with the location, room and how friendly Nick was. The location was beautiful with all the trees and historical homes along with being walking distance to great restaurants and other businesses. I recently stayed in the Garbo suite at the Brava House for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Garbo is very comfortable and spacious; and the Brava House and its grounds are lovely and extremely well kept. The breakfast at the Brava House is wonderful and the perfect way to start the day. There is nowhere else that I would rather stay when in Austin. If you enjoy beautiful Victorian architecture, the Brava House and the surrounding area is for you. The Brava House, as well as the neighborhood, is steeped in rich and fascinating history, while within walking distance to nearby cafes and bakeries, the Capital, UT campus and co-op, and the restaurants and shopping within the city center and along the South Congress area. What really makes the Brava House standout and special is the proprietor and host, Nicolas. I started each day with Nic serving a tasty breakfast and great conversation. Throughout my stay, Nic pointed out interesting areas and places that he knew that I would enjoy, such as Mozart's on Lake Austin and the homes along various streets. Much to the surprise of many of my friends, I'm a big fan of Bed & Breakfasts. I think it's mainly because after a long day of hard vacationing (and I can vacation pretty hard), I want to come flop in some place that is more like home than an impersonal hotel room. That may seem weird to some, but when have I ever pretended to not be weird? The Mrs. and I decided that we were going to take in this year's Fun Fun Fun Fest down Austin way, and needed a place to stay that would be relatively close to Waterloo Park to expedite stumbling home at the end of the day. The place we usually stay at was full when we started looking (damn Longhorns home football game), but we chanced upon Brava House and were instantly convinced it needed further investigation. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Robin and Mary were incredibly accommodating (even being very cool about our 3AM check-in time) and made this one of our best stays in Austin. Brava House it tucked back in a historical neighborhood right Northwest from Lamar. If you don't know what you are looking for, you'll miss it. Take a short drive down one of the longest driveways I've seen in central Austin and you'll find ample parking for the rooms, a quaint but festive patio and the breakfast nook/kitchen that looks like it was stolen from a Food Network studio. We were fortunate enough to book the Fitzgerald Suite for our stay. You can go to the Brava House's website and look at pics of the rooms, but nothing will prepare you for walking through the door. This place was huge and I immediately wanted to curl up in one of the ancient leather chairs and tuck back into my book. These rich leather chairs felt like they'd had more butts in them than a dive bar's ashtrays. Through a tiny nook with a kitchenette on one side and floor-to-ceiling bookshelf on the other was the giant hexagonal bedroom. The bed was really comfortable and a welcome spot. OK, that was the bed, now for the breakfast. After hauling our corpses from slumber, we were very happy to be met with tasty breakfast tacos on our first day (it is Austin isn't it?) stuffed with tasty eggs, veggies and cheese along with cheesy grits, toast, coffee, etc. Day two was mini omelet type concoctions made in a muffin pan with potatoes on the bottom and accompanied by homemade french toast. After such hearty fare, I was ready to spend the entire day on my feet rocking out at Fun Fun Fun Fest. Brava House is definitely one of the best hidden gems in all of Austin. Hell, my brother lived a mere block from the place for at least a year and didn't know of it's existence. I urge all B&B fans and even those who just want to try it out to give Brava House a chance. At the very least, to visit with Mary and Robin's great puppies, Rizzo and Sheba, or Sam, the amazingly cross-eyed siamese. read more

We stayed here recently. I seldom have so much negative to report but with this place I cannot say much that's good. Let me merely list what is in need of improvement: the parking the condition of the towels provided the lack of a check in place the noisy neighborhood where it's located (just wanted to mention this even though location is not something that can be altered or improved) the horrible internet access the lack of TV channels except the basic ABC NBC CBS the worn and old condition of the furniture Now the breakfast was good and the cool/server Nick was the best thing about this place . He was so friendly and informative not to mention a good cook. But that's about it . I would definitely not recommend Brava House! I stayed here one weekend back in 04' I think.... My boyfriend (now husband) surprised me with a nice little getaway. Upon entering this little place it gives the cozy home feeling. Our room was beautifully set up. We had strawberries and champagne awaiting us. The bathroom was meticulously clean as well as the room. I loved that there was NO tv there, who has time right?! They offer a complimentary breakfast (nothing hot except coffee). the location is great, just a few min from downtown! The inn keeper was so nice and offered us extras of anything that we needed. Over all our experience here was a great one and I would love to go back soon! read more

Great Breakfast, interesting room, good hosts, disappointing location This is a restored Victorian guest house hosted by Nick and his wife who were very nice and welcoming. It's a departure from the cookie-cutter motel accommodation and the bed and furnishings were comfortable, but the shower setup, within a claw foot bathtub, required a bit of maneuvering to avoid slipping and to adjust temperature and spray. Highlight was the breakfast, which was innovative and excellent. The one disappointment was the location which, from the description, I thought would be within walking distance of some nice restaurants and other "old Austin" attractions. Instead, although located in an "old" Austin neighborhood, it's a bit isolated and requires driving to livelier neighborhoods. read more

after a boring friday night at home, my guy surprised me with a text while waiting in line at the mall on a Saturday afternoon, "booked a B&B in Austin, we'll leave about 2:00." yee ha! love romantic getaways. bonus points for the surprise factor. i say all this to lay the foundation that i was already having a great day and a great time with my lover when we pulled into the quaint looking brava house in the middle of a cute and quirky neighborhood right off 7th street in the shadow of downtown austin, at 5pm on a saturday. so given my good mood, i was undaunted by the fact that we were not greeted upon arrival and had to eventually call the number from our confirmation email to figure out how to get into the house. the inn keeper who answered was polite, but not overly kind and certainly not apologetic about our having to retrieve our own key from a key box, then wander around the property looking for the our room. less than a homey welcome. but i shook it off. we stayed in the Garbo Room and the price was premium. my guy had booked the next night at the marriot with club points, so he decided to splurge on an expensive room for once --i mean, it's a freakin' romantic getaway after all, right? $200+ seemed high to me, but given the location and the assumption of a delicious gourmet breakfast, along with the prospect of meeting some cool people: worth the price. The Garbo is a 2-room suite and was very cozy, super clean and definitely fit the bill in the romance department, down to the claw-foot tub and checker-board tile floors in the bathroom. An oversized leather couch sat surrounded by heavy, antique furniture and faced a double-sided fireplace, open to the living room on one side, bedroom on the other; lovely ages-old carved wood framed the doors and windows. it's the kind of room to put you in the mood. nice. in hindsight, though: a simple note of welcome with a 2-glass bottle of champagne and a vase of fresh flowers would have put a punctuation mark on the moment and made up for the weird non-welcome. After relaxing a bit in our room, we went to meet friends for drinks and decided to stop back at the inn to drop our vehicle in favor of a cab for the rest of the night. the inn keeper and her partner were sitting on the patio with their sweet dogs. i was frankly unimpressed with their lack-luster, unenthusiastic greeting, but they gave us a good suggestion for dinner and although didn't offer to call a cab, did direct us to our in-room guide for the number. not exactly premium service for the premium price. and very un-homey. but we were increasingly drunk with love (and cosmos), so we smiled on. We returned late that night, but woke up early for the Breakfast that would highlight our Bed and BREAKFAST experience. and this is where my good mood would have come in handy. ... the kitchen is sunny and bright, but we weren't enticed with welcoming aromas of sizzling bacon, warm syrup or even eggs. here, in a town gaining fame for it's food, we were served a potato cake with chives (?) and some kind of cheese gallette on top. coffee was self-serve and the inn keeper along with her partner, hung around the kitchen while we made uncomfortable conversation with the other guests. i was now spectacularly unimpressed and started to have a pang of buyers remorse. honestly: a wonderfully prepared, gracious breakfast served with a hearty smile and a big mug of creamy latte would have smoothed over every single feeling of neglect from the previous day/night. But that chintzy hash brown gallette was the last straw. ignore me at check in. refuse to hail me a cab. but feed me lame ass food and you will catch my wrath. another small,but notable note: after our departure, i thought i'd left a shirt in my room, so i called the inn keeper, left a voicemail to please look for the item and give me a call. after another call to her the next day and then an email to her, i FINALLY got a call back, literally within minutes of us pulling out of town. She said she'd meant to call--but couldn't find the shirt in question. i'd found it. but still: you can't call me? homey don't play that. between embassy suites with their free cocktail hour and hyatt with the bat-view on hotwire.com: why would we pay double (or more) to stay at brava house? the answer: we wouldn't. not again, at least. read more

This is what a B&B should be. We stayed over Memorial Day weekend, and loved this place. It's on a quiet street in a really lovely neighborhood, and Nick, who runs the place, could not have been more friendly and helpful. We had the Garbo room, which has a nice sized living area and a generous bedroom, and spans the entire side of the house. The place clearly gets a lot of TLC from Nick. Breakfast was fresh and perfect, a little naughty biscuit with a little healthy fruit - what could be better. It's also a quick walk to some cool places for a bite to eat or the Whole Foods on 6th. I just spoke to this place on the phone and the woman I was speaking to was so rude! She even hung up on me! I have never experienced that in my life. I was trying to book two rooms for my family for New Year's and at first the woman flat out told me she was walking and not near a calendar at that moment. Uhhh ok. Then after discussing dates, I was trying to explain that one of the persons snores so its possible that someone might go to another room if the snoring is unbearable...and then she went into a rant about how she doesn't like "that type of people" and "we are not welcome." Very uncalled for. Ummmm this is a family vacation we are sharing together over the holidays, what are you talking about crazy person??? Avoid this place. Shockingly rude people. read more

Brava House is ideally situated within walking distance of many nice restaurants and downtown. The home (way better than a corporate hotel) is sparkling clean, the rooms are quiet and the above par breakfast is excellent way to start your day. The proprietor Nick pays attention to all details and is a great resource- he really is a wealth of knowledge about everything in Austin. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast and will always try to stay here when I visit Austin. Brava House has a beautiful serene garden that you can enjoy from the courtyard. I travel for business a lot and try to make a point to stay at B&Bs vs. commercial hotels. Over the years my favorite B&B has always been the Brava House. Robin and Mary are the most warm, welcoming hostesses that put themselves out to ensure that you you have a comfortable stay. Mary is a chiropractor and believes in top notch mattresses. The rooms are clean, quiet and well kept. The breakfasts are to die for. Robin makes her own tortillas for breakfast tacos. The best in the city. If you are looking for a historic home surrounded by 100 year oak trees and grass with modern day conveniences footsteps from downtown, you must stay at the Brava. read more

My husband and I live in Austin, but he romantically surprised me with a one night getaway to the Brava House so we could be near downtown, walk to dinner and stay in a nice place for the night. The suite we stayed in was good and fun, but we were a little disappointed after returning from dinner a little after 9pm when we decided to sit out on the patio swing, and were then told we needed to go up to our room b/c there was a curfew of 9pm, and that "The people in these rooms are here on business!" Well, we were there on "pleasure" and were not being loud at all, mostly just looking up at the stars and enjoying our night away. Also, breakfast is served from 8am-9am which is no problem, but when we arrived at 8:50, we were handed our breakfast and told they were no longer set up for it, but could sit outside. Finally, if you want a bottle of water from the min bar in your room, there's a $20 minimum. Maybe we just stayed at the wrong place for what we were hoping for in our getaway. read more

This a perfect bed and breakfast, and an amazing alternative to a hotel, in Austin. It is just within walking distance of local shops and bars. The Casablanca room is private, with its own entry off the beautiful back patio. It included all the necessities for traveling... Shampoo, conditioner, soap, blow dryer, and mini fridge. The room provided its own private bathroom with a beautiful deep claw foot tub, perfect for taking bubble baths in. There is also an additional pull out couch in room if planning on traveling in groups of three or four. The owner is extremely nice and makes an excellent breakfast. Overall, this place is idle for a quiet and quaint place to lay your head after spending a day on the River or night on the town :) read more

My husband and I stayed at Brava House for a few days for a vacation. We had never been to Austin before. Brava House was perfect for our stay! The room was private, lovely and homey, and a good size, even though we did not stay in one of the suites. The suites are very large and are like little apartments. (We took a peek). Everything was clean and comfortable and warm, and very pretty. The proprietor was so friendly and he was full of information about where to go and what to see. The outside space was relaxing and cool. Breakfast was served in a very cool kitchen/dining room area which was charming and in keeping with the environment. The meals were delicious and varied. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The B & B is near local shops and bars, and a nice walk from almost all of the sights. When you imagine what a B & B should be like, this would be it! read more

The Brava House itself is a beautiful old victorian house that could provide a great potential...if it were not for the owners and/or hosts of the Inn. We had a very bad experience, and hope to ensure that no others spend the expensive price if they are treated the same way. A couple points to demonstrate - the pocket door in the bathroom was stuck, so you couldn't close the bathroom door in the bedroom (the only bathroom)...which required my husband leaving the room so that I could use the bathroom, and vice versa. After we told the Inn Keepers of this, they fixed the door, but did not offer any consolation or reduction in our rate for the first night. To pay nearly $300/night and not have a closing door on the bathroom is bad business. Another point, Breakfast was HORRIBLE! They served us breakfast burritos (old, and in the oven warmed for an hour or longer?) and scrambled eggs. Again, when you pay the price tag for this place, you would expect some kind of quality meal. I have stayed at dozens of B&B's, and that is one of the great perks of a gourmet breakfast. These hosts served second-rate food that you could have gotten from fast food. And to make the meal even worse - the hosts (two woman) stood over you for breakfast. They literally served us our plates then sat 20 feet away, just hoovering. It was the most awkward, un-intimate breakfast I have ever experienced at a B&B - it's like they had to chaperon us eating?!?! Most high class B&B's serve your breakfast and then let the guests enjoy it in peace, not this place though. And lastly, we had forgotten our key after a late show in downtown Austin and required to be let in to our room at an early morning hour...the hosts were TERRIBLY MEAN. Grouchy, grunting just to open our door, then stomping off, not even saying any niceties. In the morning, it's like the Hosts tried to PUNISH US over breakfast just because we woke one of them up to open our door. For the price tag of the Brava House, I would qualify it as one of my WORST B&B experiences, meanest B&B hosts I've ever met, and the WORST breakfast EVER! I hope others don't fall into the same online/webpage marketing trap that we did, the Brava House hosts deserve to host only one kind (those that don't care about service). read more

The Garbo Room is cozy, spacious, and romantic--a great place to get away with your significant other for a few days. I am shocked by reading the most recent review and couldn't disagree more. We paid a good amount of money for a great experience, and every penny we spent was worth it. I go to B&B's in order to be comfortable while I'm traveling, to have a place to relax, to be in a smaller and more unique environment, and to eat a great breakfast. Brava House provides all of those things. I suppose that if you're looking for a concierge service and want hosts that wait on you hand and foot, perhaps you would do better to find a full service hotel. But if you want a welcoming, comfortable, private atmosphere with attentive hosts, you will love this place. read more

We had the pleasure of staying at the Brava House for our son's graduation from the University of Austin - it was amazing! Nick, who runs the place is the nicest fella and fabulous cook. We enjoyed our breakfast and the conversation each morning before our festivities began. The gorgeous B&B is located on a quiet street located so close to the campus. Even with full days we relaxed on the porch in the evening or in the courtyard area. We stayed in the Fitzgerald Suite and loved how the bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap, plus the amenities of a blow dryer, cotton ball and Qtips. We were able to make tea or coffee in our room. We had 4 people in the suite and the pull out queen sofa had a tempurpedic top that made it as cozy as the bed. Nick went above and beyond indeed to make our stay a lovely one. Even though we knew places to go and eat he confirmed our choices and also recommended some others based on what we had planned. Even though our son has graduated when we visit Austin that is where we will stay. I highly recommend this charming B&B. read more

So glad I found this place online! Much to my surprise, downtown Austin hotels are super expensive. At the Brava House we paid less and got a huge, beautiful suite. If you are on foot like we were, it gets a little tiring walking back and forth to 6th street, BUT at least you get a full night's sleep with peaceful birdies chirping instead of drunks yelling and barfing outside your window like at the downtown hotels. Nick is in charge of the Brava House and he is super nice and personable and a great cook. Breakfast does not have a ton of options, but what we had each day was very tasty. I would definitely prefer better coffee, but that's my sole complaint regarding our entire 3 night stay. Side note: LOVED the very detailed Brava handbook in our room with very specific notes about local restaurants and businesses, so helpful! It drives me crazy when hotels don't have any useful info in those books! read more
