This is probably the best, or one of the best, gelatos I have ever had in my life, though it is a tad on the sweet side. The flavors are completely spectacular and mesh so beautifully. I had the orange and chocolate gelato and it was heavenly! The stracciatella is stunning, and I almost went for the silky French chocolate, or coffee (that tastes like true Italian coffee, rich and dark and just mouthwatering). However.... their servings are tiny, very tiny compared to other ice cream places, and it's expensive for what you get. Their small, which is about child sized elsewhere, is about five dollars. My only other complaint is that I wish they had more flavors available at one time... although I understand that keeping flavors limited helps ensure freshness and quality. Did somebody say GELATO?! The only thing I don't like about this place is that it took me forever to finally try it!! We were in Norfolk for other reasons, but after having lunch, we needed dessert of course. I'd heard many great things about Strawberry Fields from friends, but just never got around to trying it. Main reason being location. We just aren't in Norfolk/Ghent area much. Anyway so we arrive and there was a sign that the place would open back up by 3:25pm. Right before 3:25 pm, the owner arrived. Yay! (There was another couple waiting outdoors with us.) The place is small and perfect - I love the string lights on the ceilings, the brick wall accent, and the chalk board menu. (They offer smoothies, fresh juices, and homemade gelato.) There is one small table with 2 chairs and a little bench. I imagine that the majority of customers just grab their goodies and go, especially in the summer. My boyfriend ordered a Pineapple Mango Ginger smoothie and he liked it a lot- he said it blended really well - way smoother than the blending at Tropical Smoothie, and that it wasn't too sweet either, which he liked. For me...*drumroll*...I ordered a small gelato with these flavors - Belgian Chocolate and Oreo. Can we say amazing!?! I'm not exaggerating either. Perfect flavor and consistency. Rich, dark chocolate flavor, and Oreo was well, Oreo. Combined it was just DELICIOUS. I wish I ordered the next size up. So far, I'm so very impressed with this place. I look forward to enjoying more flavors when I return! Just know that if I lived in Ghent, I would be here at least once a week. You should definitely check this place out! With greatest, utmost, mythically magical pleasure ... Ladies and gentleman, I give to you *drumroll* my LONG awaited review of Strawberry Fields. Let me start out by saying, I don't like frozen yogurt. I don't like ice cream. I absolutely despise chocolate. I'm a terrible excuse for a woman. Every time I hear "Straaaaawberry fields foevaaaaaa", I want to call out of work and drive here. Like I said, I don't like chocolate. It's, honestly, gross to me. Maybe it's the color? Maybe the richness? Maybe the cliche? Whatever it is, just keep that $#!+ away from me ... At a fifty foot radius (unless it's Count Chocula, then we're talking). There is a lot of dessert options in the Ghent area. If you're craving gelato, this is your place. As a gelato snob that lived in Italy (Sardinia) for 2.5 years I am very impressed with Strawberry Fields. Good variety of flavors. Not the same everyday. The gelato is fresh and made daily. Not that BS gelato sold at the supermarket in the freezer section. Today I enjoyed cannoli and birthday cake combo. My all-time favorite is the spice chocolate. My friends and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather this weekend and pay Strawberry Fields a visit. This place is absolutely refreshing on a hot, sunny day. It's very modest on the inside with very limited seating; however do not let that deter you because their gelato is awesome. Many different flavor to choose from, and you can sample as many as you like. I wanted something fruity, so the mango and lemon flavors caught my eye (and my stomach). They really fill those cups up so expect a lot. The two friends I was with both got smoothies and they said they really enjoyed them as well. There's no seating which encourages you to take your gelato and walk around the streets of fair Ghent. It's on the smallish size so things can get pretty tight fast. You can sample their wares prior to ordering. As with other places, just use common courtesy while sampling. Don't take forever to make your decision, please. Reasonable prices. Ok, you've caught me, I'm addicted to Strawberry Fields. I can't drive down Colley without having to go in and get some of their freshly made gelato. The gelato is absolutely out of this world crazy delicious. They create new and unique flavors almost every day, I have not had a flavor I did not like. Flavors like Fruity Pebbles, Rice Krispy Treat, Blueberry Muffin, Blueberry Lemonade, Peanut Butter Oreo, Lemon Cake, are just some of the ridiculously good concoctions that they make. SF also has a juice bar which is definitely up on par with the gelato, the fruit is fresh and juiced, nothing unnatural! I had this place bookmarked for a while and our first visit was after watching the Globetrotters on a day with freezing temps. So, logically, we get gelato. The Husband and I tried the acai bowl on several occasions...which are huge and made fresh after we place our order. I knew it was delicious but having never gone to Italy and had authentic gelato twice daily, like my sister, I couldn't vouch for its authenticity. However, I could vouch for its yumminess (for lack of a better word). Some of the flavored we've gotten are tiramisu, Samoa, banana pudding, mango, stracciatella, Tagalong, & vanilla mascarpone. We've never been disappointed. One time, I asked if they knew what they'd have the next day and basically it was all dependent on their mood the next day. Awesome. Oh and I eventually took my sister who said it was the closest to the gelato she'd get while living in Italy for the summer. She always said that gelato here in the US was always too creamy. There were 4 of us and we each got different flavors: fruity pebbles, birthday cake, chocolate hazelnut, and I forget the name of the other one but it's a sweet cream chocolate chip flavor. Stopped in here today and it being my first time my friends wanted to take me. So I'm not a big ice cream person or a huge sweets person so upon entering the staff greeted us and they were all super friendly and helpful offering samples and having patience with my indecisiveness. So before I go onto what I ordered I sampled just about every flavor they had and the whiskey pecan had to have been my favorite, my friends ordered a cookies and cream the other had the earl grey tea and I ordered the tropical smoothie all for $16 which isn't bad at all well in my opinion at least. But for the quality of service and helpfulness of the staff I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is in the mood for a sweet treat on a hot day. I've always been the gelato over ice cream kind of gal! I've yet to try their juices, smoothies, or bowls because they always have a gelato flavor that calls my name. This is always the place to go in Ghent when you want dessert. It isn't the best hang-out spot though because of its extremely small size; however, despite the size, it always smells like fresh fruit they use for their smoothies & juices and always clean. The only bad thing about this place is that when you are in love with a flavor, you might never see it again! I really loved the Pillsbury sugar cookie flavor with sugar cookie bits. My typical go-to' s when there's nothing else available are Oreo & dark chocolate. Their fruity flavors like mango & lemon are also great summer time favorites. The service is super friendly, and the consistency of the gelato is smooth. I'm always here on hot days when I'm out with friends. This is the best frozen treat in the area~ read more

I recently went to Venice and had my first taste of real Italian Gelato there. It's hard to describe the incredible decadence and creaminess, and it's been harder to find anything close to that back here in the States. Strawberry Fields certainly tries to live up to that mark, but with their own unique flavors. They offer a smaller cup for two scoops and a larger cup for three where you can experiment pairing up their fun flavor offerings. We ended up getting Lemon Rose, Blueberry Cream, and Fruity Pebbles. It is honestly pretty incredible how prominent each flavor was. The Fruity Pebbles was my favorite just because of the nostalgia factor instantly placing me back at the kitchen table on a Sunday morning scarfing down some sugary cereal. The only place where Strawberry Fields falls short is the gelato just isn't rich enough, and kinda has the mouthfeel more like soft serve, but it is still the best gelato I have had in the area. read more

Most gelato is gonna be delicious, but Strawberry Fields is far and away some of the best I've had outside of Italy. I love that they make unique flavors beyond the generic vanilla, chocolate, lemon sorbet, etc. (though those are delicious, too). I love mixing and matching flavors; I think my favorite pairing so far has been espresso bean with Nutella. They're also fond of trying out strange flavors. One that comes to mind is olive oil, which sounds like it might be a little gross after a bite or two, but it was amazing! Like others have said, it's a little pricey for the amount you get, but let's be honest-- until you can find gelato flavors like blueberry cobbler or butter cake in the grocery store, you're going to be perfectly happy to spend your money at Strawberry Fields. read more

Well our eyes are bigger then our stomach. The large may not look large but it is compact! They must have though us lushes when we ordered larges and everyone else was ordering small.
