I ordered a pizza, cheese twists, and potato wedges. All of them were good, not great. I live around the corner and will likely be back. Let's talk potato wedges. There are not the crunchy type that you see and Magoo's or even Rusty's, but they are good. My wife and I have a favorite "cheesey bread twist" place that all others are measured against, that this place was ranked as "just ok". The dining area kind of feels like California fish grill but without all of the nice lighting. There is a bar but it is kind of hidden behind a wall. Self service drinks with HI C fruit punch on the roster. Went during lunch time and there was 2 groups seated and I had no wait. I ordered to go but was able to sit in the dining area while I waited. A little bench or chairs in the front would be cool to wait for orders like every other pizza place has. I can see this area getting turbo crowded fast. Was quoted 15 minutes of wait but was ready to go at 14. Pizza is advertised ad genuine California pizza but a little explanation on what that means would be nice. We finally got to try Straw Hat and this pizza place pleased the family, so we'll definitely be back because everyone like a certain thing from there. We ordered wings, pep pizza, and the garlic cheese bread. We agreed the pizza and wings we on point, and we'd pass on the g.b. We arrived around 3:30 yesterday and to our luck; Happy hour was going on, and for $3 a beer I had to indulge a little...The staff were friendly and helpful, and the scene is chill for the whole family to attend for a night out. We gave S.H. a four star review and here are the reasons...our opinion might be different from your opinion, but all in all S.H. was worth the drive. The pizza was good, no question, but a little more sauce and pepperonis would make the pizza perfect. The wings could have been in the fryer a little longer to get that perfect bite, but I still enjoyed them. If they offer a double fry on the wings next time we'll request it for sure. We live in central Bakersfield, so it was about a 20 min drive, but we're willing to make the drive again because Straw Hat is a go to spot. If you haven't tried it; I recommend it read more

You guys, I can't believe how long I waited to come to Straw Hat. I grew up in Northern California, so Straw Hat was a staple of my childhood pizza nights up there. It has been years since I had their pizza. My dad was in town so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to surprise him with some Straw Hat pizza like we used to eat together. We ordered the same thing we always used to order, Canadian bacon and mushrooms. I ordered my half with pepperoni though this time! I pre ordered it online and we drove to the shop. It was ready at check in time, so probably 15 mins after I ordered, on a weekend. The inside had plenty of customers so I was impressed with the timing. Everything tasted EXACTLY the way it should taste from a Straw Hat. The memories came rushing back with each bite. I am so excited we have the opportunity to patronize this business! It's definitely unlike a majority of the pizza textures and flavors we have in town. Very cheesy, plenty of toppings, and the crust is soft yet also has a harder outside without being crunchy. Restaurant is very spacious and very well designed. Now the food. On multiple visits my pizza has been cooked too long where the crust has been burned pretty bad. Potato wedges were great while the wings were small and not that tasty. Salad bar looked good but never tried it. Restrooms could smell a little better. The biggest problem at this location is the wait time. When I entered the restaurant there were only 2 other people sitting. I ordered a medium pizza, small wedges and wings at 2:50pm. The food wasn't brought out until 3:35pm. A 45 min wait when there were approximately 6 people total in the restaurant. That is unacceptable. There should be no reason it takes almost an hour to get food served. It's happened before. We want to like this place but just can't make it happen with their lack of attentiveness to customers. read more

Let me start by saying the food is great. With that being said I've been eating pizza all my life and I've NEVER been charged extra for topping when you get half one way and the other half another. Their prices are already on the high side but this over did it. In a time where everything is so expensive this really was the kicker. They have TV's everywhere so it's good to watch a game. The table next to us was dirty from the people that were there before we showed up and stayed dirty the whole time we were there(2Hrs). Probably won't be going back anytime some. I waited about 45 minutes from the time I ordered and the food was just okay. It was not worth the time I waited and money I paid. Also, as I was waiting at the counter, I saw one of the workers eating at the food prep counter. She took a bite of food right over the counter where pizzas are made. The worst experience doesn't even begin to describe our first time experience. Both food and staff- horrible. First off, we kept calling just to find out if they had the game on, front girl with glasses kept putting us on hold without letting us even speak. We ended up driving down there to give it a shot, girls with glasses black hair had a horrible attitude. We got a table waited for our food, pizza rushed not that good not even cut all the way. Then the bartender with black hair passed by to deliver a drink, we simply asked if we can order a beer with her right off the bat rude, she said no we have to get up n go to the bar to her and even then shes off 5 mins, to wait for the next bartender to clock in. Once the blonde bartender got there she was very nice. Honestly idk what is going on here but most employees don't look happy to be there. I use to go there for pizza. But unfortunately due to their bad service and attitude especially the manager/ owner too I have totally stopped going. The last time I was there I had ordered large all meat Pizza 2 large orders of chicken wings. The " manager/ owner" that was helping me I asked him if he had given me ranch dressings for the chicken wings since I did not see them in the back. He replied, " they are in there." When i spotted them there was only 1 small 20 ml in one bag and 1 small 20 ml in the other bag. I said to the Manager these are large orders of chicken wings that are going to feed 4-5 people don't I get a little more ranch dressing? He then replied, yeah I can give you how ever many you want, but you will have to pay for them. He said this very sarcastically. I said to him so you f someone orders a 1 person chicken wing order are you only going to give them 10 ml of ranch( half of the ranch). My order I told him I am only asking for (3) more per bag. As I have two large orders. I am not even asking anything for the pizza ( no Parmesan cheese, no pepper flakes). As I started to walk out I guess he thought about what I said and then he stated, " well ok I will give you 1 more. I said to him, never mind, I will never be back. You sir, are cheap and rude.
