I'm not a big fan of registries in general and this one wasn't really an exception. The person who helped me first was not friendly and made me feel like a chore. But the second person who I talked to was a bit better. I had some questions about businesses and the person was able to help me with most of them. She didn't know some of the answers, which I found odd, but she helped me a bit. I left with the papers I needed so I guess my trip was a success. On August 27 of this year I went to this registry to try to pay for my driving test. and I was attended by a girl of robust complexion of indu appearance and treated me in a very rude way. I finally bought the driving test for the license and it came out that there was no space. Then I told him that if I could return my money and he told me that he could not because he had already explained it to me. I was the victim of an intransigence and a very much treatment on her part and another aspect is that her English is not understood. Be careful with her. read more

Always friendly service, the staff are super helpful and provided you don't go on the last day of the month (and really you always plan in advance and would never dream of doing such a silly thing as to go to a registry on the same day as every other person who left things to the last minute because unlike them you are organized) the lineup moves quickly. Despite other reviewers, I found the staff friendly and informative. They also have the shortest wait times on driver's tests in Edmonton. The examiner is friendly and calm, but his test does involve more difficult routes than other examiners. Her is very open about telling you the results and how to improve your driving, without getting annoyed or impatient. Whyte avenue is full of traffic, pedestrians, and the examiner does a very thorough test job. There really isn't too much to say about the Strathcona Registry other than it had the shortest line I've ever seen at one. I don't think I've ever walked into a registry and been served right away like I was here. Otherwise my experience with the staff was underwhelming. The girl who helped me did everything she was supposed to: took my money and re-registered my car. However she also continued a personal conversation with another employee the whole time I was standing in front of her. So awkward. Disinterested staff seems to be a major problem at most registries I've been to. I don't really get why. Since Alberta privatized their services, shouldn't they be more customer focused? They do have competition after all. At the same time, I suppose if all the registries collectively decide not to care, what choice do we really have? read more

Not sure what all the complaints are about.. I had to get my licence transferred from another province and renewed, and I was provided with tons of very useful information when I called ahead by a very friendly and informative employee. When I went in, I didn't have to wait at all and was assisted by a very helpful and friendly employee as well. They had plenty of people on staff, so even if a sudden rush occurred I still don't think I would have to wait very long. I have zero complaints about this Registry, it was the best experience i've had yet at any licence registry. read more

My favourite registry. The one that's closest to me. There was a time in 2010 when things weren't great about this registry. My last two trips have been outstanding. Staff have been friendly, helpful over and beyond what is expected, and very efficient. Lines move fast and everything is in synchrony. I was pleasantly surprised when I went in today for my new licence and photo. First, surprised with myself that I didn't wait until the end of the month (yay, me!), and that may have lead to the short lines that I experienced. Actually, the no line. I was able to walk in, right up to the three smiling, friendly ladies who were available to help. I found the staff to be extremely pleasant, fast, and easy going. They knew what they were doing and it was the fastest registry experience I've ever had! I may not love the new photo (I was given the opportunity for a retake but meh, I don't really think a licence photo is supposed to look amazing) but I enjoyed the experience, as much as you can! read more

I have been to several registries in Edmonton as well as Calgary, i can honestly say that this registry is the best one I have ever dealt with. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. I spent over 20 mins in the office and noticed that there were some unhappy people but I also noticed that these particular people did not bring the appropriate documents, i could hardly believe the attitude that was given to the staff for something that was clearly not the staffs problem. I can only imagine the grief and abuse that the worker have to deal with on a daily basis. I avoid all the registry's except this one from now on... Went to update my address and was completely ignored by the whole staff One girl was very diligently helping a customer AND training a new person One woman sat at the computer at the counter and other in the office. They both were apparently too busy to even acknowledge the 6 person line forming behind me. Couldn't even bother to inform anyone that someone would be with us shortly or it may be a little longer so people could gauge their own personal time constraints This is a government SERVICE that we have no choice to engage in. Staff is really incompetent. i went in requesting an ID because my drivers licence was missing, and i wanted to wait to pay my fines. The registry agent without telling re classed my licence to class 8 to issue me an ID . had they been clear of the impact, i would not have chosen to get the id. Try talking to them, clearly the staff is high in the sky. It is simply symptomatic of unmotivated people working to make a living, and simply end up doing a incompetent job. read more

I went here to exchange my U.S. driver's license for an Alberta license. The staffer was like a robot. She told me she couldn't do the swap, and when asked why, she just repeated her excuse over and over and over without any detailed explanation of what I needed to do. It was an utterly frustrating experience. The idea of privatized registry services is literally foreign to me. I couldn't believe the total lack of accountability or recourse. I ended up using the "Alberta Service Center" downtown after speaking to a VERY knowledgeable and helpful representative of theirs on the phone. Turns out the reason she was so knowledgeable was because she worked for the province before the registries were privatized, so she knew the ins and outs of the system. Holy cow, Alberta, please get rid of this stupid system and go back to letting smart and accountable government employees handle these issues for your citizens! read more

This registry sucks. 1. I waited for 42 minutes to know that their Debit payment was not working. 2. They put me on bike's knowledge test instead of car's. 3. They misplaced my outside Alberta license which I knew after waiting for five weeks. I complained to AB Transportation for this and they made these guys find my document. 4. They refused a friend of mine to let write the knowledge test because she did not had her outside Alberta license with her. She wanted to write the test so that she could start driving classe but they did not allow her to write test. To conclude, Strathcona Registry sucks. If you plan to go there, be prepared to come back disappointed. read more

I been to this location several times. For a few services, their prices are comparatively better than other registries. I been there about 2 weeks ago and my experience again was very good. Staff is usually nice and knowledgeable. I hate the fact that I have to park every time far from this location to get their services. Also most of time there is long que. Horrible service. Have you ever experience "Power trip" people? If yes, that is what is awaiting for you. If not, you better avoid this registry. A lady there (about 60 yrs old, glasses, short hair and sits in the first till), denied to issue me an Alberta ID card (NO DRIVER LICENSE- just an ID), saying that students and workers are not allowed to have an ALBERTA ID. Called me lair twice because she wanted to see an ID from my country and I said yes I have one and showed my passport and visas, then she said "that's not an ID that's a passport, I said that a passport is a form of ID. Very mad she told me to go and never come back that I was not welcome there. After the incident I went to the Argyll registry and they filled up my info and got my picture for my ID in 10 minutes(no problems at all). I do not want to assume that I was denied service because of my ethnic background but, it seems that way. I was there few months back with a friend and she was mistreating an Asian couple, because "they had an accent". I have only experience this kind of situations in the United States where Non-white are not welcome into places. very disappointing I felt very humiliated. read more

I was here twice and all staff I interacted with or observed were abrupt and unfriendly. One of the girls was eating her lunch and talking to another staff member while serving customers. I had to fill out a form twice because the girl serving me "could not find" the original, but did not even take time to look for it. She even asked me where it was. The staff I spoke to was unsure about what she was saying. She asked me to get a particular document for address proof and then after 15 minutes, when I came back with the document, she said that she never mentioned it. On asking her a second time, she said that she had "possibly" said it and the document wont work. When I asked her why she asked me to get it at the first place, she remarked that I was arguing with her and I could take my papers else where. I left with my papers and documents and am very sure after the unpleasant attitude of the staff, I will not recommend this place to my friends. The other staff in the office were simply watching. I had excellent service from staff member Hannah. I was getting another driver's licence since I had lost mine. I was using my passport as ID and she notified me that the expiry date was coming up very soon which I hadn't noticed. She looked up the simplified renewal form for me online which was above and beyond the call of duty. I also ended up getting a birth certificate ordered which I also needed. I went in for 1 thing and got 3 things done thanx to Hannah! Great job. read more

The service is adequate. The staff lacks professionalism, carrying on personal conversations throughout the transaction. If there are privacy concerns, maybe you should not intervene from across the office during a transaction. Like I said, the services are completed but it's run by pretty poor employees. I think this place definitely could use some friendlier staff. I've dealt with them a few times since I live close-by, and they come off as sarcastic. They make you feel dumb when you ask questions, and you leave feeling bad for some reason. Just in general I would avoid this place.
