I asked an employee named Alan for help, but he didn't know how to look up the part or assist me, and simply told me to "come back tomorrow." It's extremely frustrating to waste time driving down in person only to receive zero effort or guidance. There is a reason why you should come to this Ace hardware store instead of the other big box store. First, the store is clean with wide aisles, well lit and organized. Upon entering, you are greeted and offered assistance and direction to help you get to where you need to be. Saves you the annoyance of aimlessly wandering the aisles. Once you get to the proper aisle there WILL be someone there to help you. And that associate actually knows something! True that Ace won't have absolutely everything, but they will make the effort to find what you need and get you in the right direction. Recently, I was there looking for plumbing products for a repair. They had some of the parts but not all of them. The team took the time to help me find and order the missing parts online. Employees are very helpful and friendly. When I ask for help, they don't hide (like some other places do... #homedepot) Everything is easy to find. I didn't even open the packaging, but when I brought them back to the store to request a return, they told me that the cut water pipes couldn't be returned. Went to this Ace Hardware store over the weekend. Very clean store and also helpful employees especially in the paint department! I needed the Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace paint with Aura Bath finish in matte for easy cleaning. Karen was able to mix this up for me within minutes and the bath room paint looks awesome! This Ace hardware is large and very clean. There is a large shared parking lot with the center so parking is never a problem. I was helped by John today. He is such a nice man and so patient and helpful. People complain that their prices are higher than some other big box stores, and yes that is true, however if you need something quick they are a great solution. They also have a lot of cute garden and household accessories especially for the holidays. All the employees are nice and friendly. read more

So happy to have an Ace Hardware in Manteca. We've always enjoyed going to the one in Ripon so we were quite pleased to hear that they would be opening one in Manteca since we live in Lathrop. We purchased a Traeger a few months ago and the service that we received was top notch. My husband always has lots of questions before and after any bigger purchase and the sales people at Strands have been great in answering all questions. The BBQ was delivered to our home on the date that they promised. The delivery person was very helpful in getting the bbq set up in the backyard. I do still occasionally drive out to the Ripon store as it is habit but it's nice to know that there is one nearby in Manteca. I was so excited when this store opened up. Clean, neat, closer than Home Depot, employees saying hi and volunteering to help....I thought, "wow, never going to Home Depot again!" voiced this several times to employees. THEN, you find out the truth when you actually have an issue. My 78 year old dad bought me a whole house fan for Christmas but then hurt his back. So he comes out last Monday to install it as part of my gift but on a 100 degree day. I was very worried about him. He wanted to buy wire once he done measurements and other set up things. I took him to my spiffy new Ace and told him how amazing it was. So when we checked out he didn't want to embarrass me and question the cost on his card. He went home and compared to his Ace Hardware which is in Danville in the Bay Area. Shockingly the Bay Area Ace only charge $1.25 per foot. We were charged $3.59 per foot. Just to do some other comparisons Home Depot charges $1.06/foot and Amazon is .60/foot. He called and asked me to go in an see if we were charged the wrong price by accident. I gave this entire story to three employees ending up with the MOD, Cassie. No apologies, just excuses. "we don't price match". "we are not affiliated with THAT Ace Hardware" "we only have 4 stores". She rolled her eyes, body language set me off, tone of voice was just demeaning. I told her if her store in a low socio economic area can charge 3X more than the Bay Area I would go get the wire and return it. She said, "fine!" and turned her back to walk away as if business is concluded. So as she walked away I let her know I was going back to Home Depot from now on, which she responded while she continued to walk away, "Thats fine. We have plenty of customers!" When I went to the cash registers and stood in line to get a store manager's name I could hear her talking loudly and laughing tauntingly at the very back of the store. She showed up in time for my turn to go to the registers. I asked for her name and she said she was a "training manager". I asked her if she is training all of the employees to talk to customers the way she spoke to me. Again, as I left the store I could hear her taunting laughter all the way in the parking lot. I don't pay 3X more to get ridiculed and treated so rudely by the person that earns a paycheck from customers' incomes. I will never step foot in this store again. On Tuesday 9/5/23 I walked into the store walking toward garden area looking for some kind item that is metal. I picked up a pack of metal stick but was not quite what I wanted. So I hold on to the item and started walks through every aisle all the way down to the opposite of the store. Until I have reached to the screw drives area. Here comes a gentlemen walked toward me and asked if i needed help. I explained to him I need a tool that can hang on to a thread that carry the circle joss stick being dig down the candle wax for safety purposes of the house. In order for him to understanding the right tool I needed I had to show him what I was talking about. As John was looking into the photo (pic uploaded) right away he his intelligent kicks in knew which items. He immediately calls for help back up to locate that one item in this wide store. I followed him to the destination aisle. There was another gentleman was already there at the aisle to assisted John and I. They handed to me the tool and suggested if this item could be helpful. I took the tool into my hand (pic uploaded) and was deeply excited because from this point of second there is a chance I see this item it is!!! As I walked to cashier to pay for this item, I couldn't wait to get home to hand on this thing. I am very thankful that this is the right item and the right person like John helped me accomplished my task. Thanks John . Now I don't have to worry about the burning of joss stick while I'm at work. Pic 1 is the joss burning using chopsticks but was once burned down not safety, Pic 2 another technique attempts but two metal stick does not cooperate together but made the joss doesn't completely finished burning, but FINALLY with John ideas and help we found the right tool! Gosh I really love this store! What really bums me out though is the RIDICULOUS mark up on items like bleach, baking soda, vinegar etc. Seriously Ace....DO BETTER!!! With all the great items and things you offer your store doesn't need to triple the price on these items among other similar ones! This is the reason for the three stars! Normally this store would be a 5 across the board everyday all day!! But when I wanted to grab these items along with the other things I was getting I was so disappointed! I ended up ordering a pick up from WalMart~literally a third of the cost for triple the size I am hoping I won't have to do that again. I'll give Ace another try and see if they bring those prices down, if not I won't be purchasing these items or any similar here anymore. Definitely one of the worst stores I've ever been in, with only Walmart topping it. Everything was a mess, people were running around like they were chickens with their heads cut off, and no one was able to help me find the light bulb I needed. It's not even a specialty bulb. Not even the higher ups had a clue how to help me. Aren't the managers supposed to know how to do everyone's job to an extent so that they can help out when needed?? I love it here! I just bought a house in the neighborhood and I'd been totally overwhelmed by all of the various repairs and restorations it needed, not to mention disheartened by the overall expense of it all. I could just see the money flying out the window. But I'd resigned myself to paying to have all manner of work done (meanwhile secretly suspecting and being annoyed by the the strong possibility that I could do a lot of it myself if I just had a little guidance...) Enter Ace. I've gone to other hardware stores a bunch of times before but always just felt super out of place and like everyone sort of expected me to know what I was doing already. This was nothing like that. I was greeted with smiles and warm welcomes, prompt inquiries about how I might be helped, and when someone met me to help me find what I needed, the depth and generosity with time and knowledge was unmatched. I went in rather underprepared tbh, but was met with patience and a willingness to help, and meet me where I was. It's so great that self-sufficiency seems to be a real prime objective here. I left feeling seriously optimistic and empowered. Berry, the gentleman that helped me, took time to really teach me about the part I was looking for, breaking down measurements, reading of labels, and application and even being kind enough to offer his expertise to me for future DIY projects -- of which I've got PLENTY. I was really pleased to see Ace here, the store looks nice and everyone helpful. Some items were a little pricey, but the biggest downfall was employees were not wearing masks. I had to come on here and give these guys a shout out. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE ever and by far miles ahead of H_m_ D_p_t! I went into Ace today to look there first as I did not want to go across town to the other Big store where I can never get any help. I wasn't really sure what I was looking for as I needed something sturdy but bendable to fix a Dog bed that is like a Dog cave for our hound who likes to burrow under covers. Silly I know, but I thought I'd try. I was approached by the first gentleman who asked me to describe what I saw in my head... lollll he tried so hard to find me something that would work. I was almost embarrassed I was searching for something so silly. I told him that I would just look around. Then I was approached by two gentleman who saw that I was looking around confused. They asked if they could help and I first declined saying I was not sure what I was looking for and that it was for a silly idea I had. They took it as a challenge. So I explained. Little did I know that I was talking to MACGYVER#1 and MACGYVER #2. Holy heck were they helpful and funny. They could almost have their own road show if they wanted. Anyways.. they came up with a solution and IT WORKED. I have enough left over I may add a second piece to it. I sure appreciate good customer service these days as it is pretty rare and they seemed to enjoy their job which is an added bonus for me as a customer. From those guys to the guy in the drive thru Pick up garage who loaded my play sand to the lady who tried like heck to find my Blue Hog Rasberry Chipotle BBQ sauce which sadly they were out of... every single person I came into contact with was friendly and nice. I am HR for an athletic club company in the Bay Area and it is HARD to find those kind of employees and when you do, you hang in to them!
