This place is an absolute scam. You can sign up online and they'll take your money. They don't explain anything. We just showed up to move in with a full truck on a holiday. Because God forbid someone use a three day weekend to do big chores. Place doesn't have anyone on site. Our lease starts today, gate code doesn't work, unit is the wrong unit, lock on the unit. Customer service hotline told us we "should have come the day before our lease starts to gain access." ?? Another renter was kind enough to let us out of the gate. We rented immediately and with no issue down the street. I live in Pacific Beach and will literally talk awful about this place until I die. Absolutely a joke. read more

Super easy for people to break into your storage. Place doesn't care. Pain in the ass to pay your bill. You have to pay on the 1st by an ancient phone system. No way to pay in advance or online. Can only access your stuff for a short window of time during some days. Front office lady is rude AF. She can't be bothered to give you proof that your account is closed after your stuff gets stolen out of their shitty operation. There is a superior storage facility within walking distance to this one. Take your business there or anywhere else. read more

This review is from the time period of oct to mid November 2018. My unit had mice, if I could give 0 stars I would. After having no problems for a few years I found rodent droppings in my unit and shredded items. I reported the issue immediately and filed a report. I was asked if I had a key on file and asked if I would like to leave one. I replied no to both in which the clerk informed me that I would be contacted on Monday, an exterminator would be contacted and time would be scheduled I so I could be there to meet the exterminator.  I heard nothing on that Monday, so I left a message with the service. I again did not receive a call back, so since I was in the area I stopped by and again spoke to someone at the front desk. She assured me someone would be calling. No one returned my call until Wednesday (6 days after the discovery of mice). I received a call which I missed but was left a message to return the call about pest control. I called back when I got the message, but reached the service . So I left a message. I received a call back from the front desk agent stating he tried to reach me and the pest control had come and gone. He also stated that the manager was to have called me. I informed him that she never had. He stated he would speak to her and get back to me.  I never heard back from him and I left a message with the service to have the manager call me but still didn't receive a response.  I then posted to social media and finally received an email response from the manager Feather, I never even got a call. A time for pest control was set up and I met with them. This apparently a regular problem. They set the traps and said they would check them regularly. This time I left a key. When I came back two weeks later they had not been checked and 2 mice had been caught and were decomposing. Again I went to the front desk and was told they would have to get a requisition to have them come back!?!!? I had already given notice and had been moving stuff out. The next time I came in there were more mice on the traps.. They appeared to be nesting in my unit, there was no food in there but they chewed up several things and made a nest in the corner where they were coming in. This chain of unfortunate events could have been prevented had the manager returned my call even once, as requested. The time to get this resolved was totally unacceptable. I did speak with Anthony throughout my dealings with this company and he was extremely helpful. He should be management as he's there more often and isn't afraid to deal with clients face to face, even when they are upset read more

The people here are super nice and helpful. When they are there. They seem to have shifted to having only 1 staff on site at a time. That started during the pandemic so that was understandable. However, this creates the problem of if they are on break or helping another customer outside of the office, the office is then closed. There have been several times that I have come here to get a key for my internal locker door and no one was in the office. I waited 20 mins and never saw anyone. A couple of times I wasn't the only one waiting. After 30 minutes one time, I and 3 others just gave up and left. I completely understand that people need breaks and need to help others. It's just that the timing is random (outside of the lunch window of roughly 11:30-1:30 which I avoid) Lastly, there is an open sign and a sign that notes when the person will be returning to the office. A couple of times the open sign was shown when no one was in the office. Also, the will be back clock was incorrect well after it said the employee would return. Essentially, unless they decide to have more staff it is a crap shoot on if you will be able to get access to your locker or not. I've had to leave several times after showing up with a car full of stuff to drop off which is annoying. Super nice and helpful staff that just needs support with more staffing. read more

Cockroaches and mice. Never again using this facility. 0 stars. We stored here for about 3 months because of affordability, however we soon learned why. When we arrived to move out, we were welcomed by multiple live and dead mice in our sealed boxes. There were holes in the walls of our unit and feces and urine on all of our belongings. We also discovered many cockroaches that found their way into all of our things (mattresses and clothing included). Overall hundreds of dollars in damages. We filed an incident report nearly 2 months ago and have yet to hear any response. read more

2 stars for amazing staff that helped me move in quickly and with ease. 3 stars gone for the shock factor (sucks doesn't it) because I wanted it to match mine when I got a rate increase and I just started renting there on 1/20/2019. I even paid up front for the first however many months and literally on the 2nd month to month payment and my rent is going from $33 to $55 a month. ALMOST DOUBLE. And it's only a small locker style 3x something. I'm paying $50 a month for a 4x4 floor to ceiling spot somewhere else for my other stuff that I WAS going to combine and bring to Stor'em but their prices were already high. So glad I didn't now! So not sure what's going on in your business or maybe new management but that's not the way you keep people around which is the point of storage units (amazing passive income). What's funny is I am the type to just leave stuff in my storage and pay and not worry about it. But not this time. I'm getting my stuff out as soon as I am back in town and before the price hike. read more

I would highly recommend Stor'em self storage in Pacific Beach. We have utilized this self storage facility for our brother in law and then for us as well. The facility is well managed, impeccably kept storage units and grounds. They communicate very well, and our experience went off with out a hitch so far. Eileen who does work different locations was amazing to help us prepare to transfer our personal items up to Nor Cal. She is detailed, thinks ahead and an absolute pleasure to work with. If I could put NEGATIVE STARS for this storage facility, I would. We, along with many others a couple nights ago, had our storage units ransacked. This appears to be an inside job, as the locks for both the main entrance to our unit block, and the units themselves were opened by KEY, not cut open! What's more, the thieves seemed to have TIME to go through and carefully pick and choose what they wanted to take. According to the front desk, they had people jumping the entry gate outside of business hours. So much for "secure". Looking at other reviews, we see that this is not the first time this has happened in this facility. We will be moving what's left of our belongings ASAP. I just received a call from Ashely at SD Storage, who recently read my review. She thanked me for the review, apologized for the lack of friendliness and said it will be better next time. What a great manager! I love business owners and managers that pay attention to their customers' concerns and act positively on them. To me, that's a quality of a stellar leader! Just a few more ravs about SD Storage, in case you're still on the fence... they have a 10 day grace period before charging late fees. I think that's incredibly generous! This came in handy for me when I was out of town at the end of last month and didn't get to mail my payment until the 2nd or 3rd of Feb when I was back in town, even though it was due on the 1st. They received it before the 10th so no late fees were incurred. I even received an email that they received my check and my payment had processed. Great communication! Go SD Storage! read more

I explained that I only needed the unit until the 18th of June and that it wouldn't be necessary and thanked her anyway. Today I asked if I could rent another unit because I filled up my last unit and they're letting me use the unit for free to make up for the mix up. Great prices, great staff. Lisa, at the front desk was really impressive. I came to get my keys one day and she had them ready. I asked her how she knew and she said, "I remembered." Now that's customer service! The reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is because I cancelled plans to go through my unit one Sunday and planned my time accordingly. When I got there I was told that they were closing one hour earlier! I had to rush my plans. Closing early..no particular reason. I love the staff here they are very friendly. I love the fact that your belongings are secure as they dont just let everyone come in after a certain time in the evening. I can't believe the man that I rented a storage unit from yesterday was the same as the person today who held up his arm, turned his back and walked away from me instead of helping. I didnt have my paperwork & my gate code hadn't been entered into their system. I was standing at the gate & kept calling the office because I couldn't get in. I had several heave bags and I don't even weigh 100 lbs. He actually came out of the office & walked the other way! He never gave me the code for Bldg E nor did he show me how to open the door. I have a key to the lock on my unit door. And that is all. The whole facility ended up closing while I was trying to get into my unit the gates were all locked my code wasn't working and I could not get any help whatsoever. He stayed in one of the motorhomes there on the property but refused to come out and help me. I had to call the main number the emergency number and they opened the gate so I could get out. I had a bucket and other things lined up against the gate I was going to have to climb over it just to get out of the facility because he didn't enter my phone number correctly into the system so I could get in and out of the gate. I was appalled that his behavior. I'm thankful that the main office was able to open and close the gate so I could go back outside of the facility. I will make sure to go back early tomorrow morning and make sure also that he gets reported. It's bad enough that the units are as disgusting as they are but for him to treat me like a leper is inexcusable and I will never, ever refer anyone to this facility. I think he actually has a little side action going on there as well. Shame on you & Stor'em!!! read more

Let this be your warning: DO NOT RENT A UNIT HERE!!! I hope that I can prevent someone from going through my pain. My unit was burglarized 4 months after I moved in. I noticed several other units nearby had broken latches and missing locks the day before the thieves got to mine. I was given no warning or protection from the staff/management. I later found out from a staff member that the units next to mine were broken into as well. The managers were extremely negligent in failing to warn their clients of this risk. The surveillance and security are pathetic. Do not trust this place or these people! Your stuff is NOT safe here and the management doesn't give a crap about you or your valuables. Fortunately I bought some insurance, but even if my claim is accepted, I'm still out over $5000 and the loss of some sentimental items is absolutely heartbreaking. The management wouldn't even offer me a complimentary lock to protect the few items I had left immediately after the break in. They did nothing. Horrible experience. Furthermore, I thought the unit was expensive. I'm not sure what people are talking about with better deals here??? If it is a better deal than a few other places, pay the extra couple dollars/month for a higher quality storage unit, or you will pay in thousands of $$$ for your mistake, like I did. read more

Awesome service, very professional, and caring! Reina and Esperanza were amazing to work with. My crazy landlord decided to illegally evict me without any notice. I went to work thinking everything was fine and checked my phone to find a novel of a text explaining that he was changing the locks and throwing my belongings into the street. I panicked and searched for storage facility, SD Storage was the most affordable, and convenient, so I reserved a unit. After I arrived, with a u haul in tow, both Reina and Esperanza were super easy to work with, and sweet. From what I observed, they treated every customer like family. I have no idea how in the world they got into my hallway which is locked with one of your personal Stor'em company locks on it. I know I didn't go into the office and check out the key. So either someone from your office left the lock off and it was unlocked when it shouldn't have been, or someone from your company let them in. No matter how it happened, I was not there and I did not give permission for anyone to enter, so that falls on you. This is probably my favorite Stor'em Self Storage in the greater San Diego area. I stored my stuff here for SO long, and I do mean stored. Also, I truly did store it myself. That being said, there is a team of people here without whom I would not have felt nearly as empowered to self store as I did. The customer service staff in general I would call top shelf, but the real dream team has to be Christianna and Gloria. My hat is off to them in eternal deference to their selflessness and positivity. There was also this one time the maintenance guy went above and beyond just to find some rope for me, which made me feel right at home. Since I kinda suck, I don't remember his name, but I won't rule out the possibility that it could have been Matt. Anyway, great dude. read more

I rented a storage unit for one month as I only needed it until my condo was ready. I told the manager on the day I rented it that I would only need it for the one month. I was out before the middle of the month. Now I keep receiving bills from them for the following months and I haven't even been on their property. I have contacted the manager by phone and mail and they are still sending me bills, adding late fees and now Pre-Lien & Lien sale fees.
