Been a customer for nearly three years. Facility is clean and accessible. Wish there were more carts (in better shape), but that complaint is offset by the helpful staff. For example: yesterday, I thought I lost the key to my storage space--and I only had one copy. After I found the key (just misplaced it at home) the staff swapped my old lock out for a new one with multiple keys, suggesting that I keep one of these on file with them in case I have another key problem in the future. RATS. Got a storage unit here for their reasonable prices and now I know why they're reasonable. As soon as I opened the storage door, you could smell the rat pee. They already had set up 5 mouse traps in the unit so they obviously know they have an issue. They also had some traps out in the hallway. BEWARE. read more

Do not get a unit here! They have a rodent infestation that ruined all my items and this location makes you get insurance and rodent infestation is not covered by their insurance. (How convenient!) First off, I was offered financial incentive to write a 5 star review. So don't believe them. This place is terrible. The owners are greedy and unhelpful. DO NOT use this storage facility under any circumstances. They have the highest prices in the area and will overcharge you if given the opportunity. They do not care about their customers or the community's well being. Prices at Public Storage in Santa Cruz or Extra Storage in Gilroy are up to 30% cheaper than current listed prices and less than 50% of what I'm currently paying here. When I inquired about lower pricing or moving to a cheaper (identical) unit, downstairs rather than upstairs. I was told that they couldn't because of my payment standing. It'd be a lot easier to pay my bills if I wasn't being grossly overcharged. I'm moving my unit from here, being charged $479/month, to another facility where they will charge me $214/month for the same style/sized unit. When I attempted to make a partial payment on my overdue payments in order to catch up, they said I couldn't make a partial payment, I had to pay $1,800 or nothing at all. Think about that, $1,800 because I was late on payments due to financial hardship from family bills. I'm attempting to catch up and they simply will not let me. $1,800 dollars for 3 months of storage in 150 sqft. These people are grifters. Their contract is egregiously written in their favor. They will not accept liability for ANYTHING. In addition, they will actively prevent you from making payments if you fall behind, in attempt to auction off your belongings. They are selfish people who are taking advantage of their customers and the community. Keeping the poor poor. read more

Worse customer service I have ever had!!! They told other tenants that they couldn't believe how much stuff I had in my storage like duh it's a storage. They cut my lock off for late payment but when I bought a new lock not all the keys worked that came with it anf the women refused to give me another lock without buying a SECOND ONE! Seriously ??? Then I continue to get charge random fees that make no since and they canceled my discount they promised when I signed up. I recently got my unit broken into, not by lock but by my door being broken down. It happened over 4th of July weekend. I got irreplaceable items taken, about $4000 worth. Btw I been paying rent for 14 years. I made a claim it was denied. I know for a fact that I had insurance but they kept saying well it was bought by another company, regardless the company itself has insurance for their property. I swear I would never trust this place ever again finding out they have had so many break ins this whole summer. I gave a one star because I couldn't give a zero. I read other reviews and I just can't believe the reasons some people come up with just to give a negative review. I rented 3 different units in the past 3 years without one negative experience. The place is clean, organized and could not be more centrally located. The only negative is the expected rent increases but that is typical of all storage companies. STAY AWAY!!!! You will pay good money for your items to be stored in a rat infested facility. Within a week, our storage unit was covered with rat urine and feces. I see I'm not the only person on Yelp who has complained about rats. We also had water damage from employees using a power washer. I've called Corporate several times and haven't received a call back. We're not too happy with their "Claims Department" either. Read the fine print in your contract, Storage Mart does not cover rodents. They took no responsibility for the infestation. The manager said we "shouldn't have items that are worth more than a total of $2,000 in our unit." Ridiculous!!!! read more

I rented a storage for 1 month , while moving into my new apartment. Sent out the notice , vacated the spot. I kept receiving emails, that i owe them , first time around "we vacated you from the system, your no longer in our computer" second time around , "we had a black out" "we couldn't find u in the system" , 3rd time around i go through the SAME thing , i rented for 1 month. How many times am i gonna get told that the problem is solved before it is . Today i was told it was dealt with , i am vacated once more from their system , i hope its the last time. I rented a parking space from this place in Watsonville, contracts singled and approved by the manager. 2 months later I get a call saying my payment was denied, then another call saying they needed me to move my item because they want to do work. Well when I arrive the manager gives me a bogus story about something that's required, but in the contract it is not. The manager threw a new employee under the bus and put the blame on them. I had two pairs of high end downhill skis stolen out of my storage unit. It appears they reached over the top and shimmied them out as there is a gap on the top of the unit. Very disappointing and this is unacceptable for any storage facility. The staff is nice here, but with over $1,000 of assets stolen, I would stay away! read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. Currently, I have 3 storage bays with Storage Mart. Here is why I went with them versus others. The staff was really nice and helpful. Rebecca and Miguel are always around if you need them and they several times a day make rounds throughout the property to make sure things are being maintained well and that there isn't any problems. Rebecca stops and talks to us, to see how things are and asks us to report "any funny business" going on around the grounds. This right there is what makes me feel very comfortable. The recently installed cameras throughout the facility and this is helping "deter someone from causing problems or breaking in units". This is a great concern of me. My mind has been put at ease with the cameras and the diligence of the staff. The price is right, the highway is a stones throw away. You can't get any better! I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with this company. I have been a customer for six years. When StorageMart took over this storage facility (about one year ago), the prices went a little higher, but it was still fine. Suddenly, in May I received a call informing me that something was smelling bad in my storage unit. Yes, RATS! I had to take all my stuff out-furniture, blankets, boxes... EVERYTHING HAD URINE AND DROPPINGS. I couldn't save my sofas (semi-new). I had to throw away a lot of stuff. I took pictures, sent a claim to StorageMart and barely, two weeks ago, I received a call only to offer me $250 (my damages are valued over $2,000). The lady who helped me said the infestation began with the previous owner (Store More America). Moreover, they had included in their contract that their insurance would not cover any damages caused by "rodents" (and pretty much, all possible accidents you can imagine-yes, even nuclear war). THIS IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL. If they knew there was a rat infestation, why did they make people sign this contract? Please people, be careful with this company. Read the small letters and know that if something happens to your belongings, THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY DAMAGES! I will fight this until I get a fair refund for all the damages. Ok where to start! First of all, those of us who are true Yelpers know how to spot friends and family when they leave 5 star reviews. Those of us who have more than 50 reviews under our belt and have made real honest reviews. Let's start on a positive note. Ivan and Rebecca are amazing employees! Love going into the office when they are there. However if Megan is there (Manager) I avoid this place like the plague. She is sarcastic rude and obnoxious. Oh and by the way if you want all of Watsonville in Santa Cruz County to know your business feel free to walk in, Megan will go out of her way to let everybody know within hearing distance whether you're late on your payments whether you're a deadbeat or you're about to lose your locker she will let everyone know. This is obviously a violation of peoples privacy. Over all the facility is great. Did it have a mouse problem? Yeah but it was fixed. My concern is paying very good money to keep items in a storage locker, when I can go to any other facility and pay 1/3 less and not have to confront a person with a nasty attitude. She obviously is mad at the world. I don't have to say nice things about her because she is not a friend. This matter with the privacy policy is a huge concern for me and should be for all of you. I am planing on brining this matter up to the corporate level and will look into stopping her from doing this to any one else by any means possible. AVOID!!! Unfortunately, I left my things in a SM storage locker before leaving to go move to Asia. Under the old SM management the staff was competent, helpful and responded to concerns in a timely manner. Under the current ownership, they are HORRIBLE. The level of incompetence and disregard for the basics of customer service is appalling. They almost NEVER pick up the phone. If you put your questions in writing in an email 50% of the time you will get no response and the other 50% it will be a few words that don't address your concern. They are RUDE and definitely not what can be considered particularly intelligent. They blame any problem that arises on the "old management", but it's been more than TWO YEARS since they took over, how long can they still keep that excuse? Also, like other reviewers here I have also found that they spread your business around and are totally indiscrete. Is that who you really want protecting your stuff? Each and every time I contacted them about an issue, I would either 1) be ignored 2) Told to "come down" and talk to them, which is hard because I LIVE IN ASIA. It doesn't matter how many times I pointed that out, I STILL get told to just hop on a plane to travel across and ocean and visit them in person for an answer to a question that could be answered by phone or email in under 30 seconds. 3) They change the information they provide again and again with no notice. You can't ever figure out what's going on because it all depends who you talk to and what day you ask. These people are really, really bad at their job. I don't trust their ethics or their competence. I don't think they are actually dishonest, but when you're really bad at your job it doesn't really matter. FIVE STARS FOR MIGUEL!! We were moving out of our unit on Saturday and on our third and final trip we loaded a dresser into our car and quickly realized it wouldn't fit... On top of that it was 4pm (office closes at 5pm) and we didn't have any straps to tie down our back gate. We were about to unload the dresser and take it apart when I went to the office in search of rope. I was greeted by Miguel who let me know they don't sell rope. He was sympathetic and single handedly saved the day by grabbing his own ratchet straps from his truck and let us borrow them. Not many people would do that, especially when it's nearly closing time and their shift is about to be over. Miguel is clearly dedicated to providing excellent customer service and went above and beyond to help us. Thanks Miguel! read more

If I could select a 0 star rating I would, I rented a unit and noticed there was bugs, asked maintenance and they couldn't tell me what kind of bug it was, the manager told me it was silver fish and they eat paper, I asked if I could be switched to another unit and they said yes, but I would have to come the next day because it was 5:25pm and they close at 6pm, since I had to do new paper work for the new unit I wouldn't have enough time to switch my stuff , when I asked if she could stay 5-15 minutes after 6pm so I could move my stuff as a courtesy given it wasn't my fault there was bugs :( manager said NO! My options were to take all my stuff with A possible silver fish infestation to my new home I'm moving into or leave my items (I had already dropped off all my books from school and my children's books the day before) there to be eaten up by bugs read more

This is very difficult for me to write, but it seems necessary for me to warn other people. My sister and I had gotten a storage unit to put all of our belongings in, including some irreplaceable items like photos and my mothers belongings (she's in jail). I hadn't visited the storage unit for about two months and we come back to find out that everything (100%) had been stolen. I had insurance, but I shouldn't have to use it when I expected my stuff to be completely safe. We had bought our lock from this storage mart (master lock) there was no sign of forced entry. Everything was swept clean, and no one notified us that our unit was completely empty :/ I could give a shit less about the replaceable stuff but those pictures were my life and I put them in there because I thought it was a secure place to put it. Rebecca has been super kind throughout this process. Just be aware of what you're signing up for. I should have just kept my photos in my grandmas house :( read more

For the actual storage and cleanliness, I would give a 5-star rating. My issue, however, was the professionalism (or lack thereof) with which an office person treated me recently. I am not going to share the person's name but want to express just how disappointed I was with the level of service. The manner with which I was called to the desk was not in a polite, or inviting, manner. Then when I was asked my name, I gave my name and was immediately laughed at. I didn't see what was so funny so I asked. This lady says "You said that so white!". I did not find this funny and not professional whatsoever and this ruined my experience and my perception of the quality of service. I don't respect the fact that we are bringing matters of race and ethnicity to the forefront when all I needed was to find my unit number. To be laughed at was quite embarrassing and she should be ashamed of herself for treating a customer in such a rude and unprofessional way. We have a storage unit there for five years we just moved out a couple of days ago. They have clean well-kept storage areas both inside and outside access. The best part about the place was Rebecca the manager. The reason we moved out is they raised the rent 10% in 2019 and then again in 2020 so because it went up 20% in the last two years we ended up moving all of our stuff into our own garage. read more

We have Nothing but issues since we moved into the unit. We were approved for the online rate to begin with, signed the contract under the impression the rate was locked in. When our payment was due, I phoned in to handle it. I was told that my bill was higher than the signed approved contract rate. So they wouldn't take my payment at that time. We had to be inconvenienced each month to have the rate adjusted. Although, we call in on time, they couldn't take our payment. So our unit was not available to us before or after office hours due to this!! We also confirmed with the facility that our rate wouldn't be increased during the first year. They did confirm,, and to our surprise it was of course increased. We batteled this facility over and over until this also was resolved. No matter how many times you call, email etc.. the owner will never respond. I once phoned in and was speaking witih Miguel the on site person, while on his other line he did call his supervisor regarding this problem. The supervisor did not know I could hear his conversation on the other line. He was Rude!! This person does not care about their customers at all. Everytime we call in, we rarely get a live person. No matter how many time you leave messages, you're lucky if they do respond. For the first time in 1 year I had actually forgot to call in my payment. You technically have until the 10th or 11th of each month. Well I was a day passed that, and was hit with a $37 fee.. You think they would have waived this fee considering I've called on time for each payment, but they wouldn't take it due to their mix up!! I don't know how this place stays in business. We are currently searching for another facility that is honest, clean & that will either answer thier calls, or at least return within a few hours. The long and short of all this, Is do your research, and find another facility to store your belongings. The only reason this place even gets 1 star, is that you have to pick at least one.
