When I was looking for storage today and I ran across a website that compared prices of all of them and that was extremely easy to use however, I got sidetracked during my day and I must say what a joy it was to have Corin call me to find out what my plan was going forward and I was easily able to reserve and pay for my unit all well on the phone with her. She made it really easy and I was extremely comfortable with her from the very beginning. This has been a positive experience thus far and I must recommend public storage in Capitola because the environment and atmosphere of the facility is also quite nice compared to other locations within Santa Cruz. I have been renting a storage unit here since 2020 and today I was helped by Sid (might have misspelled the name) but they were so incredibly nice. I was having issues getting into the gate and Sid came over and tried to help me and took me in the office to get my code fixed right away. This location didn't always deserve a 5-star rating, but over time things have improved to the point I believe 5 stars can be justified. The electric gate now reliably works, and having it open via the smartphone app is very convenient. Access to the restroom is no longer dependent upon having a PS employee on site. I absolutely love this Public Storage location! I've had a space there since 2011, and not once during these 13 years has there ever been a problem. The units are clean, never any musty smell that I've noticed at several other storage facilities, and the front office staff have always been helpful. After just a couple years... Monthly rent is 450% more than the introductory offer and 100% more than the initial "normal" rent. It's good storage... clean, easy access. But the regular massive rent increases are predatory. 100% in just a couple years is unacceptable. read more

12/23/2019 UPDATE We ended up vacating because the price is WAY too expensive. Though the staff is nice, it's so not worth the price and we found Storage Mart to have everything Public Storage doesn't (i.e: carts, good lighting inside the unit - they increase their rents and are more expensive, you'd think they could afford to replace their carts and dollys or put some sort of anti theft device). STORAGE MART is inexpensive, friendly staff, wider walkways, and YES....they have carts!!!! Sept. 2019: Laura is very helpful. We transferred from a 10x30 to a 10x15 and she made sure we received our walk through exit receipt. There was an extra charge and when I contacted her she acted quickly in sending an email to her boss as our bill was on automatic payment and we vacated before months end, so there shouldn't of been any extra charges. We've been with them since Oct. 2017 and since then we've had TWO rate increases. It's spacious in terms of the halls, the driveway and the personnel are helpful and friendly! read more

I was livid with this place until I started reading the other reviews. Now I just feel played. The young girl in the front office in the mornings is absolutely no help. Super rude to everyone even the police that were helping us. Then she tried to tell them she was scared of my husband who was just asking for the managers information because she was no help. We needed help getting into our storage cuz the key was lost. The cop offered to help and she wouldn't allow it. I had to leave a bag of mine outside the unit for a couple hours while I waited for a locksmith which she threw away because " it wasn't inside my unit". I've Bern renting here for over 5 years and the one time I didn't make it to the keypad to exit by 9pm I get locked in. Then they call to inform me my access hours will not only be from 9-5 basically only when the office is open. We were burglarized at this business and no one told us. We kept paying on a unit that was empty. Haha! The amount of stolen items is impressive. The police came and took a report and said that this place has lots of theft. It's prolly an inside job, due to the fact that we were not notified and they simply put their lock on it. Please do not give them business, they still have not installed cameras even tho the officer said the brake ins occurred over the summer. I was robbed at this Location. No cameras on site. Other than a security gate and some bars not a secure place. Additionally, several of the clients seem to be living out of there cars and this locations storage lockers so the clientele look pretty riffraff E. I'd never want my daughter coming here as it's also poorly monitored. Never recommend this place! read more

Do not rent space here. Only cold hearted, greedy people work and own this establishment. There are no security cameras and they have zero empathy. We've been renting here for over a year waiting for the house to be finished and have slowly moved things out. All I needed was one more day to get the last piece of furniture because I had no help to move it. They told me there is no pro-rating and I would have to pay another 400 for just one day and I have until 6pm to finish this. So frustrating and the girl made zero effort to work with me. read more

this place is horrible! the storage units leak water causing property damage to items being stored inside, there is no security, no cameras...anyone with a gate code or employed at the place is able to cut a lock and steal whatever they want! They do not even try to solve the security issues nor do they try and help with the situation when the unit your paying them to rent is broken into and personal property is taken! the insurance they make you purchase when renting from them is a scam! (it's actually illegal to require a storage renter purchase the insurance plan threw t h e facility! renters have the right to provide there own insurance for the stuff being stored) I am not sure how th I s place stays in buisness with all the shady happenings that seem to happen more often than not? An employee even stated that thefts there are a common occurance! Yet they do not install cameras? or code key locks to the main building? or motion senses for after hours added security! I highly suggest that anyone looking to rent a storage unit to find a more secure place than this! ! this has got to be the absolute worst place for self storage I have ever seen! my guess is that the owners/managers/and or employees have something to do with all the theft that goes on here...the I owner/manager lives on site! it's a bit odd with so m any thefts occurring no camera servile of the property is put in, and the owner/manager knows nothing about it? yeah right! clearly there is something going on here that just does not seem quite right! research your options! do not trust your personal valuable property to this place! make sure modern security features are installed! make sure that storage thefts are not a regular occurance! there are many other good options to keep your stuff safe while stored! good luck! read more

Horrible business. Someone broke in twice into my unit & Public Storage just replaced the lock without telling me. I went to use my unit and I couldn't get in, and they had the audacity to tell me that I had to hire a locksmith to get back into my unit because they changed the locks on me. Mind you, the lock on the unit was Public Storage's lock, not mine, and they changed it without my approval. Had to pay a locksmith to come down and open the unit for me... it was ridiculous. Good storage location and I feel safe since the entrance/exit is right in front of the main office. Overall, there is not much staff (usually one person), which is why safety was a big concern for me. Also, it is conveniently located if you are on the East Side. Also, all the units I saw had direct access from a car/truck, which is great if you are moving lots of stuff or heavy items. read more

This place is the worst!! When I moved in they told me when I move out they would prorate the month I moved out so I would not have to pay for the whole month, that's not what they said years later when I moved out. My unit was broken into and the thieves put a new lock on my unit and public storage made me pay them to brake the thieves lock and buye another lock from public storage. The insurance sucks and is a ripe off. You would do better to put your stuff in an abandoned field and it would be safer and cheaper. read more

I'm extremely unhappy with this place. They charge me $3600/year and don't even provide basic security. No cameras. They're not even trying. Someone with a gate code drove up to my locker and took whatever they wanted. Many of the stolen items are irreplaceable. The insurance only pays $3000. They know this is happening yet they haven't taken steps to prevent further occurrences. read more

This is the worst place ever I got my unit broken in; the front desk lady even told me fuck you when i demanded an explanation the two ladys there where not helpful at all and even made me buy two more Locks in order for them to let me into my own storage. (If you ever need storage get the best Locks and check your unit once a week). The staff was very friendly and helpful but there were a couple of issues with the storage. Their website advertises a discount on the first month, but most of the units don't qualify for the discount so plan on paying full price.They also require a lock to secure the unit but don't mention that anywhere, so you don't know to bring your lock with you. You can buy they lock there for $22 but it's a common lock that will cost you $8 anywhere else. read more

Having to get a storage container because you just don't have enough room at home isn't a great experience in itself, however, I have been very happy with this Public Storage location. Though I dread going to my container to dig through if for specific items, the customer service I am greeted with from Vaden, one of the clerks, has been exceptional every time.
