I'm leaving this review to share my experience with the "manager specials" at the Storage Smart location in Soquel. About a month ago, I purchased one of the manager-special units. From the outside it actually looked pretty good and appeared like it might contain some worthwhile items, which is what led me to buy it. However, once I got into the unit, it turned out to be almost entirely junk. It honestly looked like a pile of garbage from multiple lockers thrown together. There may have been one or two usable items, but the overwhelming majority was trash. I mentioned this to the manager at the time and explained that I was concerned about what I found. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but the condition of the unit made it feel like a lot of leftover or unwanted material had been piled together. The situation ended up costing me about $600 just to dispose of the junk and haul everything away. When I came back recently, I noticed two more "manager special" units that looked very similar. From the outside they looked decent, but the visible contents appeared to be the same type of mixed piles. While I was there the first time, another customer even mentioned they had experienced something similar. I'm simply sharing my experience so others can take a very careful look before purchasing one of these units. read more

Zero stars. This place only gets worse. They have zero customer service skills. The manager has been rude every single time I've spoken with her including day one. The rate hikes are way over 10% they will give the least a mount of notice 9 days for mine. And then put massive fees with it up for auction within weeks. DO NOT RENT HERE. Been a customer here now for four years. I have had a number of different units over that time. Anastasia and the crew there have been wonderful this whole time. I keep in mind that at the end of the day this is a storage facility. It's not the fault of those behind the counter when the rates raise. This happens. What is nice, is developing a working relationship with the crew and getting into the know of anything that may be happening at the facility. The staff here are not your normal facility staff. They are friendly, personable, and still get to business. If there are any issues they work to the best of their ability when they receive communication. The crew is a large part of the reason I stick there. read more

Let me start by saying this place is nice and clean. I can see it being a very good place for people to rent, however, the women behind the front desk is terrible. I am an elderly disabled man who just moved in a few months ago. I tried to get my brother and friends to help because I can't really lift things, and she was rude, asked way too many personal questions and demanded to see ID's. Now I understand not wanting to rent to anyone who is going to cause damage or be disruptive, but to barely allow people to get assistance isn't OK. I recently had surgery on my foot and have been struggling a bit, I used something to prop a door open and was told that it's not allowed. Understandable. But instead of a warning I was given a swift punishment of office ours only. Pretty harsh but I obviously broke a rule. When I asked how long this would go on I was told permanently. Now that is just ridiculous. She has changed the hours constantly to her choosing without giving me proper warning. I have heard other customers complain about her nasty attitude and heard her tell people to pack their things and get out immediately. There should at least be 3 days notice I would assume. I don't know how this place is in business still, so many units sit open because no one wants to deal with Anastasia. Zero customer service skills and it seems this place does not care about their customers. Don't rent here!! read more

I own and operate a local moving service in Santa Cruz county and have helped many of my clients move in and out of this storage facility. The grounds and lockers are kept clean and in good repair, the staff have been friendly and helpful when I've spoken with them. My observation is that this is a safe place to store your stuff. This here place gradually went downhill. There are no bathrooms which, I get it, many people aren't the cleanest and don't clean up after themselves but due to this major set back (of no bathrooms) some people will pee in the elevator or nearby and the smell is horrible! Sometimes, the doors won't open because they don't keep their building maintained and due to much use, I guess the lock gets jammed. Too bad because their prices are probably the best. read more

StorageMart's website explicit states in huge typeset at the top of its homepage that its units are "Climate Controlled" -- this is a HUGE FALSEHOOD. I spoke with two representatives who both clearly read from the same internal playbook about how to skirt around this lie. In response to my request to each to confirm that the units are "climate controlled" each said "we cannot guarantee the exact temperature" and they said other things that still suggested that the units were climate controlled. When I pressed them (and trust me, it was like pulling teeth) to simple answer "yes or no" as to whether the facility/units have any kind of air flow control, each finally had to admit that "no" they do not. This is complete and total fraud by the company's website and by the way their employees are instructed to mislead potential customers. read more

He returned my phone calls promptly and accommodated my situation in a professional and friendly manner. Their representative was extremely courteous and helpful. I have been storing my stuff with this Storage Mart for 3 years or so now and I'm glad there is new office staff who are awesome, super helpful and knowledgeable. This facility has an upgraded camera system and the loading bay door is now locked which seems to keep the place more secure. I'm glad the facility is cleaner as well. After closing with Storage Mart. I do not feel the same way as my 1st review. Anastasia and Joe are good representation of the company and go beyond. I just can't afford it and living $1000 a month income. When I asked to reduce size after downsizing more. It seems that I was to remain in existing storage at a much higher price. Or move one more time but I could not move to another if I downsize one more time. Tactics to not serve the customer's interest where no compassion as to issues at hand despite payment made. Is it to make money Storage Mart?! I do not know why Storage Mart did not call me when they broke my lock. They delayed their visit but I needed my key lock back. Makes no difference to me know I lost all of my stuff because your staff neglected to tell me of the upcoming auction. After storing my belongings there for 5 years, I was 2 months late, spoke to them about coming in and paying the next week, nothing was ever stated to me about an upcoming auction, even when I specifically asked. The staff was very helpful in explaining the process and extremely friendly every time I came over or had a concern. I've had storage units over the years in LA, San Diego, Italy and Austria. This unit is the nicest, cleanest one I've ever had. Building is well maintained, staff is friendly and helpful, and I'm paying less for a climate controlled unit here than most others in town that weren't. Three years ago, Store More America gave me "first month free". The facility was pricey, well maintained and there was always someone in the office to assist customers. A lot has changed in recent months except the price, it's still high. As soon as Storage Mart took over management (March 2017) they "pro-rated" my payments to the first of the month, charged me $181 for that. Two months ago the lights stopped working in the hallway near my unit. I asked to have them fixed. Still dark and creepy down that hallway. If you think the elevator is slow, don't bother using the stairs because when you reach the second floor the door is still broken and locked closed. There used to be carts and dollies available. Now, if you're lucky you might find a broken one if you hunt around those dark hallways. I shared my concerns with the manager Ivan several times, and he seemed genuinely concerned. But when I went yesterday, much of the same problems. The office is short staffed and closes randomly throughout the day. Disappointed. Emptied my locker out and closed my account. read more

I've never rented a storage unit before but Angel was so helpful! I originally reserved a unit online, but once I got there, I realized I needed a larger space. Angel gave me a tour of the facility and helped me find a unit that was the right size and more easily accessible (I originally had a space reserved on the 2nd floor, no fun!). When we signed on as clients at StorageMart in Soquel, some great things started to happen, thanks to Angel Zepeda! We are a 501c3 nonprofit and we serve low income nursing home residents and people with disabilities. We receive donations of wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, medical equipment, clothing, shoes, furniture, etc. for those we serve. When we told Angel that we needed storage space for these items between the time we receive them and when we deliver to clients, Angel informed us that the StorageMart team has a special interest in supporting the efforts of charitable organizations such as ours. He guided us in applying for such assistance. To our delight, we were awarded with the help requested. We are so very much appreciative of Angel's help, and for the effort of the StorageMart team in making this happen. We are now able to accept donations that we had to refuse in the past due to lack of storage space. But now we are able to help many more people in need! During these difficult times of Covid-19, we find it so encouraging to see how many people and organizations work together to help each other. We see the StorageMart team demonstrating a great level of concern in helping those in need. As time passes, we continue too have ample opportunity to see Angel not only as a friendly and hard worker who keeps things running smoothly, with the facility always clean and well maintained, but he also shows attention and promptly helps with any needs that arise. Storage Mart was great including their staff. They were friendly and accommodating. I got the one month special and luckily I upgraded to the bigger unit bc my stuff wouldn't have fur in the smaller one. They provide dollies which makes moving stuff easier. read more
