I have been a long-time renter at Storage Sense in Troy NY. I have decades of experience with locally-owned and national conglomerates. Some have been in better condition than others. All are terrible with their pricing, seducing you in with web deals and jacking up rents anywhere from 5-15% or more within the first year. Storage Sense, though, has to be the worst of the bunch. No loyalty whatsoever to long-time tenants (I store artwork so I'm in it for the long haul). I just receive a 15% increase (for March 2025), higher than inflation rates for the past year, on top of a 10% increase less than 10 months ago (July, 2024). Even when they have ample units available. My size units are up to $70 less per month after the web deals (with very reduced rate for the first 2 months). I'm starting to think they are up-charging existing tenants to make up the shortfall. Disgusting business practices! Will not refer anyone else to your location or elsewhere and I'll be looking to move to a local business (or just get a shipping container as I'm sick of paying these b*st*rds and their investors). Normally great, however I had several alarming incidents happen to me before moving out. Everyone her needs more training in order for her and her crew to be operating up to Storage Sense standards. I guess there was a mix-up and people are accusing this company of auctioning a unit off early it or some accusation. I'm sure it was a mistake or some kind of unintended error. I have a unit with them and I thoroughly enjoy my interactions with the staff. The manager got me a unit at a time when it was pressing and the other place I booked from wasn't even at their location to assist me. Painless process, friendly staff and manger, reasonable rate, and also doesn't seem to have the "break-ins" issue that every other place has, which also happened to me at another local place. However, I was not aware of the fact that at the end of your stay, if you leave the first day of the month of the middle of the month, they keep your money and do not do a refund for the remainder of that month. I saw a News story yesterday about this same location, where they sold someone else's belongings without notifying them. I had been here for a year and a half before I was furloughed due to COVID. I made arrangements with almost 3 different employee's to make payments and catch my account up, which I did. Once I got behind again after 3 months of being furloughed and completely laid off, I worked with A guy from May 2020 - July 2020 who had "written down" my payment plan. When I returned in August (only being 2 weeks late on my last payment, the property manager had changed again and I was told that my belongings were sold. I spoke with a buddy I had referred to see if he was having issues and he was also. So I called back to get some answers as my entire life was in that storage and the only thing I was given was an apology and continuously told that there were no notes on my account. Even though I have a payment arrangement signed and completed by the former property manager. This company fell apart in 2020 and capitalized on selling peoples belongings and profiting from it. read more

I really should have reviewed this place sooner because I have been with them for several years now but just recently moved to a smaller unit there and once again, had such a good experience I needed to write this. I was sharing a larger unit with my roomate who was moving out of state. The day of her move, she showed up and her movers were nowhere in site. After about a half hour, they called her swearing they were outside the gate - they weren't. Sean - the AMAZING property manager - got on the phone with them and figured out where they really were. He then got into his own vehicle, drove to them, and led them to the storage unit. He also checked on her and brought her water throughout the evening while they packed up the unit. He really just went above and beyond! The rates here are the LOWEST in town and I am not kidding - just check on SpareFoot and you will be able to compare the rates all around the city. They always beat all the other units in town. In addition, they seems to always have additonal deals on top of their already low price, plus you get a free lock and the use of their moving truck (within the first 2 weeks of your rental). This really is a great place to rent a storage unit.For me, it's a little bit of a drive but absolutely worth it and why I have been with them for years now. read more

I first started renting a storage unit here because I was a touring musician going out of state and they had the cheapest rates (50% off special, 24-7 access and a FREE lock and moving truck!). I had such a great experience with Storage Masters. After getting into town about an hour and a half later than planned due to traffic, and being completely frazzled, I was in need of some help. Billy went above and beyond by staying late to get me settled into the unit and even talked on the phone to my uber driver who was having trouble finding the place. In a time when customer service is in short supply, it was great to work with a company that is devoted to making sure I was comfortable. Don't follow Google's directions! It will lead you into a neighborhood, at the back of which, you will be able to see Storage Masters, but not get to it. Just go down Florida. You'll see it; it's fine. There's huge signage, you won't have a single problem getting there, unless you listen to Google. I reserved a unit online. Within 10 minutes, I received a call. It was Billy, from Storage Masters. He wanted to confirm my reservation and let me know what the next step was. It was going there and filling out paperwork and actually getting the locker. So, I went there. And after Google drove me around in circles for half an hour, I finally got there on my own. Billy was just a hoot. He was pleasant and friendly. He had a unit ready for me, though he apologized that it was still a little dirty. It was spotless; I don't know what he was talking about. Billy did ask me what I would be storing and then immediately answered his own question: "General household goods?" I said that was right. He asked if I was comfortable with the size. I said I was. And that was that. When it came time to get a lock (you have to use one of theirs) Billy pulled out a lock that was still in the packaging. He opened the package in front of me and then tested the keys and handed everything to me. Because that's how you do that. Billy has cold water for people moving in and out. That's a nice touch. It's important to stay hydrated. Everything went smoothly and I have moved some of my stuff in. I feel like my stuff is safe and secure. read more

The manager was awesome! Very sweet, down-to-earth lady. The truck is free except for a $15 insurance fee, plus $0.89 per mile over 20 miles. It ended up costing me $25, but that is still a LOT better than renting a truck somewhere else. The storage unit was clean. There is no light nor climate control in my unit. However, I received the best rate in town. And trust me, I did my research. It was definitely worth driving all the way over there from Lakewood. There were a couple of minor maintenance issues that we noticed. I brought it up to the manager, and she explained that they had been without a maintenance person for a couple of months, but they had just hired a new employee and he was in training. For the review by Colleen back in April.....When I signed my paperwork, the manager was VERY thorough in reviewing everything (took about 45 minutes). She made sure that I understood the bit about no partial months. I had to sign that I understood that. FYI: Remember to take your insurance policy when you go to sign the paperwork, or else they have to charge you $9 per month for only $2,500 in coverage. That includes the entire policy, not just the declaration page. Note: The entrance is on Florida Ave. Google Maps did not have it correct for me. There is a long driveway to get to the building from Florida. Just tell them that Bobbie in unit 0507 referred you! There's not much more you can ask for in a storage facility. Billy is one of the most personable people I know, truly there to take care of you and make sure you have the best experience. The good price pulled me in, but the customer service kept me. Also, the grounds and storage units are clean and well kept. When Billy opened my unit, the smell of cleaning products engulfed me. I love it. He even provided me with a lock for the unit, something I thought I'd have to get myself. A HUGE truck on site for only the cost of insurance and topping off the gas- $1.87. Didn't need to go far. You had access to this truck overnight night. I had decided to change the storage facility I was going to use last minute to a location that was closer to my new home. I chose Storage Masters based on previous reviews on Yelp and I can say that I'm fully satisfied. I called the dispatch center and spoke with Dodie who was extremely helpful in getting me set up and explaining everything I needed to know - mind you I was setting up a unit for move in within the next 2 days. Upon arriving at the facility, the staff was very through and pleasant to deal with, which hadn't been my experience when I went to go check out several large chain storage suppliers. My initial size selected was too small so the staff took the time to walk around to view different size units until I found a good fit. Additionally, you cant beat the monthly charge (plus promo discount), free use of the truck plus peace of mind knowing your belongings are secure! Both employees went above and beyond to help me get situated. All in all, I had a pleasant experience at a fair price. This place is a joke! They initally exercised great customer service however, when I closed out my rental they cheated me out of one full month of rent when they indicated a month before that I would receive a prorated refund if I moved out during the middle of the month. No one can be found to answer my request. It took over a month to get an answer after calling both the local and corporate offices at least five times each and emailing them. read more

Awesome customer service! I was offered water or coffee, taken to the unit before I signed any papers to make sure it was to my satisfaction, and treated like wonderfully. The manager was super busy but he treated everyone with respect and handled the pressure great. The property and unit were extremely clean and well-kept and I was given a free heavy duty padlock. They are very nice people (three managers in the 10 months I rented a unit), and the place is clean and secure - although it is very easy to "tailgate" to enter and exit. However, they raised the rent after a few months and would not prorate my last month's rent when I needed it for only a few days. READ THE CONTRACT FULLY!!!!!! I have had my belongings at this location for almost 2 years. When I contacted the management to let them know that I was moving my things out in the first part of the month, they let me know that because it was not in the first 5 days, than I would have to pay for the whole month, for an empty storage! My storage was originally 151.00 per month, but was increased to 180.00 when the new management came in. Since I am only at the storage 11 days of the month, I must pay more than 1/2 of the storage for an empty storage unit. I would hope that others do not fall victim to these practices, but I am sure, that others will and this will never be brought to the consumers attention at the time of rental. I would encourage anyone to do what I intend to do, and that is to make sure you leave the lock on the storage for the duration of the month, empty or not! No one has any assurances that that storage will not be rented to another person, prior to the month end, and the storage collecting from two people at the same time for the same unit! read more
