Greg did a rough sketch, added suggestions, and we went from there. All prior grass and planting material were removed by them as agreed upon prior to the work beginning. They had a clean slate to work with. Upon clearing an area with plants Greg and Jimmy came upon two alligator lizards that they moved to the back yard. Hopefully, they will find their way back to the front yard after the work is completed. They really did create a beautiful outdoors landscape bringing feelings of the Sierra Mountains and Joshua Tree to the landscape. An example of how a low maintenance and drought tolerant landscape can be lush and exciting. During the process, both Greg and Jimmy paid meticulous attention to detail with the placement of the brick walkway, brick lined pathway, placement of boulders, rocks for the dry creek bed, and plants. Happy that I opted to add the outdoor lighting. The lighting adds to the magic of the landscape. Needless to say, the landscape went beyond my wildest expectation and works well with a historical Tudor style home. It is gorgeous. I recently hired Brian to convert my backyard slope into a terrace. The original landscaping was…read morecompleted six years ago, and I was impressed with how well Brian matched both the stucco and concrete color to the existing work. He also took responsibility for a few issues that came up during construction -- he replaced a damaged pathway light, repaired a cracked concrete curb, and resodded areas of grass affected by the Bobcat. I genuinely appreciate those efforts. However, I was disappointed that my landscape lighting system was left completely inoperable. The crew cut the landscape wiring in multiple places during excavation, and none of my lights work now. Brian declined to repair the wiring, explaining that they had to "manipulate" the slope and that locating the wires would have been too difficult. He described it as an "easy fix." Maybe for him, but not for me. My electrician charges $225 per hour just for a service call. After several conversations with Brian, we reached an impasse. He maintained that the wiring repair was not his responsibility, so it will now fall on me to hire an electrician and absorb the cost. There is no language in the proposal stating that the contractor is not liable for damage to electrical components. However, the contract does state that "every effort is made to perform this work in a quality workmanlike manner." Given that, I expected the wiring to be repaired as part of good customer service. Two of my neighbors were waiting for my project to be completed so they could hire him next. After hearing about the unresolved wiring issue, they have decided to go with another contractor. For now, I'll be without landscape lighting until I can budget for the repair, which is disappointing after an otherwise solid project.

My recommendation is to avoid any work done by California Rocks using Joaquin Lopez as the Sub…read moreContractor I started a concrete project with California Rocks 18 months ago, Demo my old concrete and replace and redesign with new concrete around my pool and in the front yard, Marshall provided a competitive Quote and we started. Marshall was good to deal with , but his subcontractor "Joaquin Lopez" was impossible Poor Quality 1.The dyed concrete came out is various colors and was very apparent it was not mixed well 2. The stamping was not done correctly and in places we had tool , brush and footprints in the concrete, sections that were not stamped, steps that never got finished 3. During demolition there was damage to the plaster in my pool that was never repaired 4. During the pouring of the concrete there was splash onto my stucco that has never been removed. 5. The reinforcement wire was not supported and sunk to the dirt. This caused major cracks in the concrete Communication 1. Marshall did what he could to communicate but was not getting response from Lopez 2. Lopez would make promises and then not deliver most of the time 3. Money was requested and paid each time but I never held back enough to have any leverage. This was my mistake. To California Rocks Credit, they did come out and cut out some of the worst areas and poured new concrete. They offered to apply a coating to make all the concrete match. This made the situation better. The pattern they sprayed is not what I wanted, but to make this whole situation go away I agreed with it and it is done, Nothing I can do now except hate it. To this day there are areas in my front walk and driveway that have a white residue on them that I have asked several times to have fixed and I am now getting no response from Marshall or Joaquin Lopez.
