On a recommendation from a friend, I contacted Greg at Earth Tones Landscaping. The process began with an idea of what I wanted the landscape to look like. Greg did a rough sketch, added suggestions, and we went from there. All prior grass and planting material were removed by them as agreed upon prior to the work beginning. They had a clean slate to work with. Upon clearing an area with plants Greg and Jimmy came upon two alligator lizards that they moved to the back yard. Hopefully, they will find their way back to the front yard after the work is completed. They really did create a beautiful outdoors landscape bringing feelings of the Sierra Mountains and Joshua Tree to the landscape. An example of how a low maintenance and drought tolerant landscape can be lush and exciting. During the process, both Greg and Jimmy paid meticulous attention to detail with the placement of the brick walkway, brick lined pathway, placement of boulders, rocks for the dry creek bed, and plants. Happy that I opted to add the outdoor lighting. The lighting adds to the magic of the landscape. Needless to say, the landscape went beyond my wildest expectation and works well with a historical Tudor style home. It is gorgeous. Thank you so much Earth Tones Landscaping for an amazing landscape and all of your hard work and effort to make it happen. My neighbors and I love it and look forward to watching the garden as it grows, and the landscape matures. read more

Greg and his team at Earth Tones Landscaping do a fantastic job! We remodeled our backyard a few years ago but never did anything with our hillside. Greg was able to help us with our vision and provide excellent suggestions on trees and shrubs. He's very knowledgeable in his trade and very reasonable on pricing. Now we have a beautifully landscaped hillside in our backyard and we cannot wait to see how it grows! read more

If you want excellent quality work done in your yard you need to call Greg from Earth-Tones landscaping . I have a patio floor that needed something done with it. Greg and his crew gave me the most beautiful paved patio. He is an artist with pavers. The only problem is that it's soo beautiful I don't want to put my outdoor couch on it. I just want to bring everyone over to look at his craftsmanship. Just wish I could give a picture for all to see. read more

To start for those looking for a landscaper, Earthtone was reasonably priced when we used them four years ago. In 2020, Greg and his incredible team replaced our 30 year old sprinklers and landscaped our yard with draught tolerant plants, created sitting places for entertaining with beautifully crafted walls and compressed granite. The yard is still looking amazing after all of these years! We have enjoyed our time sitting outside and it is all thanks to Greg. You will be happy with the results. read more

Greg and team are a great contractor to work with! Have nothing negative to say. I received multiple estimates from licensed and unlicensed landscape companies and one thing that set Greg apart was his knowledge and willingness to hear what "I" wanted to do with my yard. He let me work through some options and ideas I had and he put his finishing touch on it with his knowledge and experience. My project wasn't the smoothest due to HOA and city requirements but this is the team you want when challenges arise as they were able to help us landscape our new yard. From the dirt lot to what I have now----Earthtones does EPIC work. They dont cut corners and are very upfront in communicating throughout the entire process. This is a trustworthy business and I wouldn't hesitate to do more work with them in the future!! read more

Having seen Earth-Tones on a landscaping job a few years ago, we were finally ready to makeover our hot mess front and back yards that were weed infested, had overgrown planting beds and inefficient irrigation. Contacted Greg Brown for a consult and liked his plans for our more waterwise landscape (we still wanted sod as well as more native plants). He also proposed a facelift around our pond. With three crew on the job including Fred Brown, the patriarch of the business who leant his expertise and muscle, nine days later our yards were transformed into our tranquil, soothing oases. Tho I was hesitant with Fred's suggestions for the pond, I think it's my favorite part. I don't have enough superlatives to define this family-owned business. The crew were professional, on time and showed extreme attention to detail. Fred, Greg, Louise , Cole, Jimmy and Pascual, we can't thank you enough. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this company. We moved into a home that had a beautiful lawn. Within weeks it died. I called ET landscaping for a quote. Fred came out and assessed my yard. He was extremely knowledgable about the issues with my yard. He helped us design a custom game plan that fit our family needs. The work (including concrete) took 3 days! These guys are fast. They guarantee the work any tiny issues that have come up, they come right out and fix. My favorite part was that it is a family affair. The company has been around since 1977. I met both sons and their Uncle and Father. Great company!! read more

Even neighbors stopped to ask for their card, before the project was even complete. They were efficient and extremely conscientious about cleaning up, etc. I HIGHLY recommend them for any landscape project! read more

3 years ago we found this company when we were looking to update and improve our front and backyard landscape and softscape. We put our project to bid with several companies and ultimately decided Earth Tones was our company. We then decided to focus on interior improvements and put off the outside Fast forward to 2018, we were ready to do the outside. Again we put the project to bid and again decided on Earth Tones. They just completed our project and we are thrilled. Fred and his sons Fred and Greg and their team transformed our 35 year old landscape into a show stopper yard. They were able to salvage part of a pool deck we thought would have to be demo'd. They were responsive, professional, fun, helpful and kind. We couldn't be happier with our yard. We now have a beautiful sitting wall, a concrete courtyard, beautiful planters with plants, trees and lighting and they installed a beautiful flag pole. Each time I had questions or needed advice or reassurance that all was well, they were quick to respond. They were on time each day, worked very hard on our behalf. Neighbors have stopped to look and tell us how beautiful it looks. We feel incredibly grateful to have had the team from Earth Tones help us. We will enjoy our yard for a very long time! read more

Terrific, reliable, and amazing service throughout the entire process. I'd recommend to use and will use them again. The Freds know their stuff about design and customer service. Fred Jr. came out 6 months later to fix the irrigation that our dog chewed up for no charge. While he was here he checked our sprinkler running times to ensure we were all set for the summer heat with the vegetation he planted 6 months ago. Top notch service and person. read more

My Yard Needed a Facelift!!!!! I called Earth Tones from a advertise booklet that comes to our neighborhood. Fred, the owner, answered immediately. Made an appointment for the upcoming Saturday 9am. He was there promptly at 9am. I told him what I visualized and he one up'd me with a better visual which included bringing butterflies and hummingbirds to the yard. :) His visual required retraining the dogs but beauty cost. LOL. We agreed on a plan, a budget and a date. Yard was completed in two days as estimated. The job was a family affair with music and laughter going on in the yard which was really cool. Communication was awesome. I'm all about communication and great customer service. Fred made follow up calls after the job was complete to make sure I was satisfied, I knew the watering schedule and what and when to expect the true beauty to appear. I HIGHLY recommend you call Earth Tones if your yard needs a face lift. I'm very satisfied with the job. When the budget allows, I will call Fred back to facelift the front yard. read more

Fred and his crew do a good job but he uses poor plants. He keeps in mind California native plants but it looks like he may recycle the plants from previous jobs. He planted hideous cacti in our garden. Now we are finding out some of the shrubs (Carolina Cherry) he planted in our yard are the most toxic for dogs and he knew we had dogs. We told him it had to be pet friendly. He used a ground cover in place of our front lawn that we found out from our local nursery can only grow in highly shaded moist areas; living in Riverside CA, that will not happen. We do not recommend him. read more

I found Fred Brown to be arrogant and he tried to pressure me into doing my landscaping job the way he wanted it done. He did not listen to my wishes but instead wrote a quote according to his. I knew as soon as he told me Earth Tones didn't waste their time on jobs under $5,000 that this was not the company for me. I couldn't believe that he told me I did not need to use a weed barrier ground cover before putting down rock, and advised that I could have the weeds sprayed! I'm going with another well known landscaper who is doing the job the way I want -- literally at half the cost Earth Tones wanted to charge which was outrageous. read more

I found work they had done and loved it. So I went on line and made an appointment. Top man(?) came and did a 10 min walk, where I told him what I wanted. He said he would have some one come and give me a quote. A week later no one had contacted me, so I called them back. I was told the quote was ready and it would be sent to me. I wondered how they could get a quote ready as no one had come back to measure or check out in more detail what I wanted.A quote came but no detail no linear details, just a general description. I wanted to know what it would cost for basic work, then more on level 2 and then more on Level 3. I got all three but don't know what it really was for. I went back to landscape store, and asked for some one. I found man who said he would check and call me back. NO ONE EVER CALLED. I went back to store, and Manager said he did talk to the person who came out, and was told it was a good quote. I asked why he never called me back. No comment was given. Later I called the landscape man and asked him for some detail, like how did he measure anything when no one ever came back? He said he measured the area from Geo Earth. I am not stupid, but my house on Geo Earth shows the side of my house where the work was to be done, as in very dark shade and no able to see any thing. An other lie. He told me he would send me the quote with details on it, It has not arrived in last 3 weeks. I don't trust the people that helped me to do any work as they are not truthful and don't every follow up with anything, Horrible experience. I spent all my working life as a very good salesman. I would have been fired doing what these men did to me and now not getting any of my business. I can't recommend them to even sweep off my patio. read more

Working with contractors can sometimes be like going to the dentist, unavoidable and probably painful. This was SO not that. Our experience with Earth Tones was painfree and pleasant. We had an estimate within a couple of days and Fred went the extra mile to work with our budget. Greg's team completed the vision as promised, Colorful and Lush. And they finished a day before deadline! They are full service company: they designed the plan, installed a new sprinkler system with drip irrigation, built a seating wall, put in flagstone paths and put in lighting for our beautiful new front and backyard. Thank you Earth Tones! read more

I wish I could say that earth tones was fantastic and that they did excellent work --- but I can't! Why? I put on a job on home advisor and I explained what the dimensions were and what we were thinking about. Earth-Tones was one of the companies that home advisor matched us up with. Initially someone from the company set up a time to call me so they could talk about it. When that person called - he asked if we had received bids and how many we had received and from which companies we had received them from. Finally, after getting the information he wanted he said "It sounds like a small project. And frankly we are at the place where we can pick and choose the work we take. And your job just sounds too small. And we are really expensive. I know those other two companies you should use one of them" Well no worries there because I for certain won't ever be using earth-tones and I will be letting all my friends to not use them either!! read more

We had our yard done a year & a half ago (I know I'm a little slow on writing this!), but I have referred several people to Fred & Earthtones Landscaping. They have been equally happy with the work Fred did in their yard. I can't say enough about the level of professionalism, expertise, & attention to detail that Fred put into our yard. We wanted a drought tolerant landscape that would be vibrant & dog friendly. Fred proposed some designs that exceeded our expectations when they were executed. He welcomed & encouraged our input throughout the process. His dad helped us pick out plants that we liked, but also gave input when some of our picks weren't the best choice. Besides the landscaping, he designed & installed a gas firepit, picked up & installed our waterfall, installed lighting, and came up with a cool design for the front yard. He said our landscape would grow & develop over time & would become a home to wildlife. I can happily tell you that the landscape was beautiful when installed, but it has evolved into a backyard oasis! Various flowers bloom throughout the year, several hummingbirds call our yard home, & butterflies & other birds drop by. The dogs also have space to run & love spending time outside exploring or hanging out. As you can see, I would highly recommend Fred & Earthtones Landscaping for designing & installing new landscape or updating your current landscaping. We did both & have received so many compliments from friends & family. Fred & his team will make your landscaping vision come to life! read more

With helping my cousin in CA with her new place we came across earth-tones landscaping. The owner Fred and his wife were extremely helpful and polite. The free estimate was more than fair and accurate. Fred was very knowledgeable with local plants and what vegetation would work in CA and with more pet friendly. She is still extremely happy with the masterpiece they turned her yard into. Thank you Earth-Tones Landscaping! read more

I'm glad so many other customers had great experiences with Earth Tone but I did not. I give them due credit for their scheme, working on time, their communication, and coming back to tend to some fix-its. It's been eighteen months since their work was completed, that's when ET said everything would be fully in, so now I'm reporting two major on-going problems. The decomposed granite walkway they put it has been riddled with weeds, not just a few, but many continuous sproutings. I asked about lining underneath the granite but ET said it was unnecessary. Spraying the sedge with Sedgehammer at about $20 for a 7 oz. bottle online and it taking 6 weeks to take full effect is frustrating especially as new growth pops up. The other issue was with my slope, 80 yards by 20 yards. ET originally planted insufficient numbers of Japanese honeysuckle. When I pointed out the lack of coverage, ET gave 18 pallets more - as long as I was willing to plant them, they would devote no more labor to that. And in one stubborn area on the slope, the plants wouldn't take, Again, this time after some real haggling, I was given 18 more pallets - I was expected to plant them myself along with ET's statement that that was all ET would give. I've put in 100+ hours of planting and weeding and a dozen treatments of Miracle-Gro on that area, now it's 75%covered. I guess my biggest disappoint is that ET is apparently satisfied that an incomplete job is fine so long as they meet their contractual obligations even if the situation requires some more to be done right. read more

Cannot say enough great things about these guys. We contacted Fred after seeing positive YELP reviews and he came out pretty quickly for a consult. He came up with a vision for our backyard, something my husband and I needed help with (we knew what items we wanted but not the flow). We were provided plans and an itemized quote - very reasonable for the high quality of work and service. Fred was instrumental in getting everything we needed for our HOA approval, quickly responding to all emails and even providing rock samples. Once we got the approval, we were on Earth Tones schedule. The team of guys is phenomenal. They were by far my favorite group of contractors to work with. Constantly communicating, friendly, and clean. They worked fast and got our yard done in 8 days. I have no doubt if we needed anything they would be here without a problem. We cannot wait to break in our yard and enjoy it's growing beauty! Will strongly recommend them to anyone looking for hardscape/landscape work! read more

We did an 18ft Pondless stream, and they did a fantastic job, almost better than I imagined, they also landscaped the area around the stream. I also did new lighting and new granite gravel on the pathway which really brightened up the whole yard. I spoke to Fred, the owner, over the phone. I told him that I needed an estimate because the house we're buying is in escrow but it has already has a citation on it for not having landscaping. He said he'd give me a verbal one, and if I wanted to work with him, he'd give me a written one. Money was never mentioned! Upon arrival, he saw me and immediately said that the written estimate would be $90! I told him he didn't mention this over the phone. He proceeded to say that escrows fall out all of the time, and asked if I was even pre-qualified? I was being pre-judged! My husband and I have FICOs of 813 & 818 and pre-qualified $200K over the asking price of the house. UNBELIEVABLE! He wasted our time because we drove nearly an hour to meet him at the house. We are definitely taking our business elsewhere! read more

Wow! Stunning! Beautiful! These are some of the words friends used when they saw Fred's and his crew's artistic landscaping creation. As part of the design, they formed an impressive, gorgeous pondless waterfall, surrounded with beautiful plantings. They transformed a large dead yard into a park-like garden. Fred, his son and crew are hard working; do quality work and incorporate high-grade plants and trees. Fred is an artist at landscaping, and he and his crew are accommodating and very easy to work with. They definitely are out to please the home owner. We saw his work at a friend's home and loved it, so we had him landscape our previous home. We were so happy with his creative ideas and work that we knew he was the one to beautify our present home. I can't say enough great things about this company. From the first day Fred came over to when they completed the job, everything they did was great. There was never any pressure to use them and took my idea for the front yard and executed it beatifically. Their crew is friendly and very professional. When they were doing the work, there were a couple of things they changed because they knew it would look better and they were right. I had a small problem with the water valve and contacted Fred. He tried to talk me through it and we were able to do quick fix. He indicated he was on his way to a meeting and probably wouldn't be able to get by until the next day. However, within an hour he was at my house and replacing the valve. He did what he needed to do so that he could fix the problem immediately. I highly recommend this company and all of their employees. They are truly a great group of guys. read more

First of all, I was looking to get an estimate on a backyard pond and waterfall and found Earth -Tones landscaping on Home Advisor. He came highly recommended, so I gave him a call. Fred responded in a very timely manner and arrived promptly to our initial meeting and stayed about an hour. He took the time to assess my project and offer up helpful and economical suggestions. He showed sincere interest and insight into my vision for my backyard project. He then presented a professional computer generated detailed estimate in about a weeks time. Upon accepting his proposal, the final estimate is broken down into equal payments that give you a detailed breakdown of what services will be included for each payment. Fred and his team arrive promptly each day, and appraise you if any changes are to be made. He works on only one project at a time, and is certainly worth the wait. Fred and his team gave me a beautiful backyard "wilderness park" that I will enjoy for years to come. Fred is a master at what he does, and clearly enjoys his work. I highly recommend! read more
