I am writing this detailed review to strongly warn Sacramento-area homeowners against hiring Cuong…read moreNguyen or OnPoint Landscaping. My experience with Cuong was a financial nightmare, completely unprofessional, and deeply frustrating. If you value your money, time, and peace of mind, do not trust this contractor.
Here is the complete breakdown of what occurred on my project:
Incomplete Scope of Work & Financial Loss:
I hired Cuong for a complete landscaping project--including concrete work, a retaining wall, sod installation, and dirt grading--and paid him a total of $5,800. Out of the agreed scope, he only poured the concrete and completely abandoned the rest of the contract. He still owes me $2,500 worth of uncompleted work (retaining wall, sod, and dirt) that was paid for but never touched.
Upfront Material Money Taken with Zero Materials Delivered:
On top of failing to complete the contract, Cuong insisted on receiving advance money specifically to purchase job materials ($1,500). Despite taking these advance funds, he never brought a single piece of material to the job site.
Subpar, Cracking Concrete Work (Day 2):
The only portion of the job he actually completed--the concrete pour--was done way below industry standards. Just 48 hours (Day 2) after the pour, the new concrete began noticeably cracking. His lack of proper prep work, framing, and pour technique resulted in cheap, defective work that will need to be replaced.
False Claims, Games, and Mockery:
Working with Cuong was emotionally draining. He repeatedly played games over phone and text--telling us he was on his way or actively at the job site working, only for us to check and find he never showed up at all. He actively mocked our concerns and showed zero respect for our property, time, or schedule.
Job Site Abandoned in a Mess:
To make matters worse, when he stopped coming, he left raw construction waste, concrete scraps, and debris scattered across the yard. He refused to clean up after himself, forcing us to either spend our own time cleaning it up or pay another service out of pocket to haul away his garbage.
Final Verdict:
Cuong Nguyen is completely untrustworthy, unreliable, and unprofessional. I am left with $2,500 in unfulfilled work, $1,500 in unaccounted material funds, cracked concrete, and a messy yard. A total waste of money and time. Never ever trust this guy or hire OnPoint Landscaping! They don't have a valid license, the bond was cancelled on Nov 5th, 2025
