We bought a house that was built in 1979 and that only had one owner who never hired proper contractors for any projects. (as evidenced by the half-baked epoxy floors in these "before" pictures) It only took Josh one visit to listen to my vision for a complete overhaul, remodel, and desire for an attic. Josh not only captured the vision, he also gave us new ideas for the garage that we hadn't even thought of!! (check out the electric lift that we can load 300lbs onto without having to break our backs by carrying boxes up into the attic! #mindblown) We also didn't like that the water heater and HVAC system were completely exposed which made our garage look old and decrepit. We also had a gun safe that we tried to hide behind an old refrigerator so it wasn't visible from the street. Once again, Josh had an amazing idea to build a closet structure around the HVAC unit, the water heater, and the gun safe that came complete with door handles! Prior to Josh giving us the good news that it was possible to add an attic, Josh identified a very serious problem with the primary support beams with the previous owner's version of rafter storage. The issue was that there weren't enough of them to support any heavy boxes because the beams were spread too far apart and not up to code. (check out the rafter pictures!) One of the other reasons that I wanted the garage project started was due to an unfortunate incident where a rat had snuck up into the engine bay of one of my supercars that I had left outside one evening. That dang rodent did over $13,000 in damage to the wiring in a single night! With this new garage, Josh also showed me areas where he made improvements to prevent rodents from entering the garage. (we know they can get into any area they want, but it was good that Josh and team made it harder for them to enter) We had told Josh that we also wanted to get a Tesla at some point in the future, so he had his electricians also install a 240v wall outlet so we could add a charging station for a Tesla in the future. One last thing that Josh helped us with was our sprinkler system. The previous owner had the sprinkler system installed inside their homemade cabinets in the garage. Josh and team moved the sprinkler system controls outdoors into an all-weather box. It was a really nice touch. To top off the project, Josh referred an epoxy floors contractor who got the floors looking perfect for the fun-cars that I have parked there! At the end of the day, the garage turned out to be significantly beyond our expectations with some really epic features! (electronic lift, hidden closets, and future-proof electric car chargers!) At the end of the day, we all want a construction contract that we can trust. It's also amazing when you can find one, like Josh, that gives you design ideas that will make your project more beautiful than you had ever imagined. Josh and his crew did an amazing job on our kitchen and bath remodel. I was apprehensive about hiring a contractor after hearing about other friends' experiences. Josh gave recommendations and offered suggestions during the design process. The remodel went smoothly and we were surprised at the quick progress. We started in mid December (crazy to start right before Christmas, I know) and were finished 4 weeks later. The crews came by every morning at their promised time and we were always kept updated on progress and if there would be any delays. They would clean up at the end of the day before they left. We went through a major Kitchen Remodel in the month of November 2019. We had water damage from our dishwasher and filter that burst which caused a slow leak that ruined our wood cabinets. We also decided to replace our tiles and redo our entire bottom floor including a mini bathroom remodel. We did extensive research and chose Josh Menshe, owner of Protex Construction and his team. Josh is a true professional who is honest and is focused on making sure we were comfortable with our new remodel and design. Josh asked what our goal was and we said to have more space for all of our kitchen items and to expand our counters/island as much as possible. We were hesitant at first because it included closing up our existing windows, changing our sink direction, and adding two new brand new windows that would face our back yard. First off, let me say that I've been in the world of construction and real estate for over 25 years and Protex Construction is by far the most professional construction company I have ever dealt with! Josh (contractor) is honest, reliable, communicative, pro-active, and very knowledgeable about his craft. His team wears company shirts so you know they are part of his crew and they do great work! We needed to add a 2 bedroom and 1 bath addition to our single story house due to family members moving in. Total addition of 587sq. ft came out better than we could have imagined! We just recently completed a five (October - March) remodel of our home with Protex and couldn't be happier with the result. We actually were referred to Josh Menashe prior to purchasing our fixer upper. Josh was actually kind enough to come out and give us a bid while we were still in escrow and it really helped us get some concessions on repairs from the seller. Additionally, Josh did a great job in working with our interior designer, getting the plans drawn up and getting all permits with the city pulled so we were able to start demo the day after we closed on the house. The scope of work was quite large (we gutted the entire interior and remodeled all aspects of the house). Josh and his crew worked diligently and whenever the project would start to get behind schedule (not necessarily his fault - change orders, unforeseen inspection issues - he would have subs working even on the weekends to get the project back on time). In addition he worked real well with our interior designer to make sure the details of the design were executed. One thing I really enjoyed about working with Josh was the transparency. He was upfront about everything, including costs. He gave an extremely detailed line item bid, which made it really easy to follow to determine how much work had been done and when it came time to make a payment. Additionally, he didn't charge up front. I would make payments as work was completed. I couldn't have been happier with the result and pain free process Josh and Protex made what is usually an extremely stressful experience. We used protex to convert a loft into a bedroom. We chose them because Josh was professional and seemed competent and responsible. I don't know if most of these reviews are real but quality professional work is NOT what we experienced. Every step of the way something was done either Erin or was of poor quality. First, we had asked there be a cutout above the closet but they framed it all the way to the ceiling. They had to patch the holes they made in our ceiling and redo it the next day. Next-drywall. What a nightmare! We have a rounded corner that looked like crap until after the third attempt to fix it. We also had a doorway we had closed off and after they textured it you could still see the outline of the door! That was redone, too. Electrical-we added a ceiling fan and recessed lights and every time we turned it on the lights would flicker. I complained and they fixed it (but took several hours) and said that I should have incurred that cost but because they wanted to make sure I was happy they would take care of it. Seriously? But the worst of all was the closet they built. It's about 1" too short and can't even fit a standard sized hangar. We are using baby hangers and haven't been able to figure out how to reconfigure it to make it work. The closet was built completely crooked too. Now there is huge crack forming in the corner where their new wall meets the old wall! Nice guys but definitely not quality work. Would not use them again for sure!! read more

Last summer we decided to turn the upstairs den into a guest suite and decided on Josh's Protex Construction. His quote was reasonable and detailed so we knew what's covered and what's not. The project went fairly smoothly and Josh was easy to reach if we had any concerns or questions. Recently I noticed a drip leak in the newly constructed upstairs bathroom and also a downstairs ceiling stain (located right under the upstairs bathroom so I worried about water damage). I texted Josh and got an immediate response saying that he will send out the crew to check out the issues. The crew worked with my scheduled and showed up on time. They promptly fixed the drip leak and after cutting into the ceiling dry wall and examining the sample, determined that it was not water damage. Called Josh and have come out to give us an estimate on a fireplace remodel. We called 3 companies total and Josh's estimate was fair and seemed more reasonable than the other bids. The estimate was broken down line by line so we could see exactly where the costs came from. The crew came out early on the day scheduled and worked late. They set up dust barriers to ensure the rest of the house would stay clean. They broke down the old fireplace tile and built a new bench and installed stone veneer. They were also able to engineer a floating fireplace mantle that we purchased elsewhere to be installed with no supporting hardware showing. Josh and his crew are AWESOME!!! I hired Protex to remove sliding glass doors that were in two rooms and replace each of them with a wall and a window. (The rooms face an atrium.) My big thing with this project was that I needed it to be completed within my very tight time frame (just 4 business days!). Josh, Mike, and Art did an excellent job. When something was not quite right, I told Josh - he sent Mike and Art the next day and it was fixed - so well you could not tell there had been an issue. They used different people for different jobs, but all were professional and courteous. A remodel can be stressful, but Josh and the others was always calm and responsive. Two examples: i) We choose a "barn door" and its length was only about the same as the door frame. This allowed one to look into the bathroom when the doors was closed, as it is not flush against the wall. We told Josh, and he had Mike and Art install a wider one that works well. ii) After they were finished and I'd made my last payment I took my first shower. It backed up. I thought "oh no," imagined some big problem and texted Josh. He sent Mike and Art the next day. I had to leave while they were working on it. Josh texted me to ask my wife about the shower. We were both busy and I could not talk to her until the evening. I imaged there was some complicated problem that could not be fixed.... but when I finally spoke with my wife she said it was a big hair clog deep in the drain, and they took care of it. Everything was fine. Tip - really decide what you want before you start and make sure to ask for it. In retrospect we might have chosen an even a deeper tub and installed it without glass in between it and the shower, so we could shower first and then get into the tub as Japanese do. I know if we had asked for this they would have done it. Protex - especially Josh, Mike, and Art - deserve five stars and I recommend them without reservation. I've attached pictures. read more

We found out that we had some major water damage to both bathrooms. It was far worse than what I thought it would be. Josh sent out a team that got to work right away. They tore out the old flooring, to the point you could see the ground under our house. They worked quickly and efficiently. New vanities, new shower doors and new flooring. Protex did an awesome job from beginning to end! From Josh's initial estimate which was quite fair in comparison to the multiple other quotes we got. The price he quoted in our initial estimate was the exact price we got, no gimmicks. He was able to tell that our wall we wanted to remove for an open floor plan was a shear wall and sent his architect to give us plans for the city that were approved on the first try! We have an older house so when we drilled into the foundation for one of the beams they hit a water pipe but fixed it the same day. Even the city inspector made a comment that Protex was doing really quality work when he saw the beam and how it was secured. The final result was exactly what we wanted! The final texture between my dining room and kitchen were completely different at first and they were able to seamlessly blend them together! Wonderful job all around!!! read more

This company did not complete any home remodeling projects for me, because they cancelled twice prior to providing an estimate. The first time I called the office the day before the scheduled appointment to confirm the appointment and the receptionist apologized and stated for some reason she did not have the appointment logged. I was understanding and re-scheduled. The next time I did receive the confirmation call the day before then on the day of, 2 hours prior to the appointment the receptionist called to say the contractor had accepted another offer so that he will need to again reschedule. I felt this was highly inconsiderate of my time and demonstrated that he did not value potential customers. The receptionist offered to reschedule for a 3rd time but I declined. read more

We began with only the bathroom remodel, but at the same time, we had to repipe our house and there was additional water damage in our kitchen. Josh did a great job adapting to all the extra work that we gave him. He is very clear about costs and everything is very transparent. The most impressive thing about Josh is his responsiveness: recently, we had a problem with the towel bars in the bathroom, and I hesitated to call Josh because it was over a year since he completed the job for us. They remodeled our master bedroom and bathroom back in 2019 and I regret ever hiring them. Josh had come in to give an estimate, but wasn't around when the work was actually being done because he was going out of town. The people he hired to do the work did a poor job and left piles of trash in our back yard. The tiles were so poorly cut, he brought in a second person to take down the whole thing and re-do them. It was better, but still bad - and at that point, I just wanted them out of my house! They didn't clean the concrete floor completely, so there are little bumps under the flooring. When I pointed them out, they said it was taken care of - only to find out months later that all they did was pound the bumps with a hammer to flatten them - and then the bumps come back. We chose a under-mount sink for the vanity, and just yesterday the sink fell through! So now we're having someone else re-install the sink and put it some adequate support. I've never seen a sink just fall through the countertop - and it's only been 2 years! Horrible! read more

We recently remodeled our detached garage, adding electrical, plumbing, a mini split, recessed lighting, a new window, door, reinforced roof, drywall and creating drainage away from the property. It wasn't a terribly glamorous job but it did have a lot of moving parts and I was so happy to have Josh as our contractor to organize the various teams coming in at different points. I initially hired Protex because Josh hit the right price point on his quote, but more than being on budget I think the best part about hiring them was their soft skills! Josh was very easy to get ahold of via text or cell and if I was gone for the day and had a question about something done or needed something changed after the fact, he was very responsive and by the next day the item was fixed. If I was home and happened to communicate directly with the team, I could also do that successfully in English which was a perk for me. The only major hiccup we had was orange peel had been sprayed when I wanted skim coat; I brought it up to the painters, they stopped, and contacted Josh. The next day it was gone. Honestly, the whole project was really easy which I would attribute to the great communication. Josh, the main guys working on our property (Art and Mike), and even their office manager, Lisa (who I communicated with regarding billing) were all so nice and genuine. Our dogs also loved them! Construction of any sort can be stressful and disrupting and I found the team at Protex were just such great people that it really made the project a much easier and more enjoyable experience than I could have imagined. Contacted Protex and had Josh come over to help out with an estimate on remodeling our business. While he did come as scheduled and made all the measurements needed, we never received the quote. We followed up each week for 2 weeks with voicemails left and no call back. Everybody has big or small workloads but the cut on communication (email, phone call or voicemail) was that proved this company or person is not up to par. read more
