Update: Since I had my windows installed I have brought Josh and his team back twice! I live in a condo and my neighbor had a water line break, which caused water damage to my house. Called Josh and he was at my place in no time with equipment that helped keep the damage to a minimum. His team replaced all the dry wall, insulation, painted and got us back to normal in no time. I really appreciate how much care goes into their work. They remodeled our master bedroom and bathroom back in 2019 and I regret ever hiring them. Josh had come in to give an estimate, but wasn't around when the work was actually being done because he was going out of town. The people he hired to do the work did a poor job and left piles of trash in our back yard. The tiles were so poorly cut, he brought in a second person to take down the whole thing and re-do them. It was better, but still bad - and at that point, I just wanted them out of my house! They didn't clean the concrete floor completely, so there are little bumps under the flooring. When I pointed them out, they said it was taken care of - only to find out months later that all they did was pound the bumps with a hammer to flatten them - and then the bumps come back. We chose a under-mount sink for the vanity, and just yesterday the sink fell through! So now we're having someone else re-install the sink and put it some adequate support. I've never seen a sink just fall through the countertop - and it's only been 2 years! Horrible! read more

We recently remodeled our detached garage, adding electrical, plumbing, a mini split, recessed lighting, a new window, door, reinforced roof, drywall and creating drainage away from the property. It wasn't a terribly glamorous job but it did have a lot of moving parts and I was so happy to have Josh as our contractor to organize the various teams coming in at different points. I initially hired Protex because Josh hit the right price point on his quote, but more than being on budget I think the best part about hiring them was their soft skills! Josh was very easy to get ahold of via text or cell and if I was gone for the day and had a question about something done or needed something changed after the fact, he was very responsive and by the next day the item was fixed. If I was home and happened to communicate directly with the team, I could also do that successfully in English which was a perk for me. The only major hiccup we had was orange peel had been sprayed when I wanted skim coat; I brought it up to the painters, they stopped, and contacted Josh. The next day it was gone. Honestly, the whole project was really easy which I would attribute to the great communication. Josh, the main guys working on our property (Art and Mike), and even their office manager, Lisa (who I communicated with regarding billing) were all so nice and genuine. Our dogs also loved them! Construction of any sort can be stressful and disrupting and I found the team at Protex were just such great people that it really made the project a much easier and more enjoyable experience than I could have imagined. It was icing on the cake that we came in on budget and for less than I was quoted by some other unsavory CL characters. Protex's license is suspended for violating Contractor License Law. The Contractor's State Licensing Board indicates they have suspended the license due to Josh's non payment of workman's compensation insurance. I must say I am not surprised to learn this information. Protex is a shady company that does shoddy work. Josh did a whole house remodel on a home we were moving into and it was a nightmare. He had four weeks to complete two weeks worth of work and there are still items that are not complete. For starters Josh and his team treated our home like it was a dump. His workers and subs constantly left food trash around the property which attracted ants and rodents. Construction debris routinely piled up and beer cans and cigarette butts where often observed in the rubble piles. One of the workers routinely smoked in our garage leaving smoke odors that took months to get rid of. They used one of the bedrooms as a staging area for upstairs debris and didn't even bother to protect the carpet with plastic. The work was not completed on time and Josh was never around to supervise the work. The kitchen island cabinets were installed 3" out of square with the rest of our kitchen. We bought and paid for the baseboards and the crown molding ourselves and Josh installed them in areas of the home we did not request causing our material budget to double for these items. Crown molding was installed upside down in two rooms, and out of sequence with other work twice causing removal and re-installation which only caused even more delays. Plumbing fixtures were removed that were not part of the scope of work. The workers routinely left the exterior doors open which allowed lizards and even a bird to enter the home. The jetted tub did not work properly, but Josh refused to troubleshoot the problem claiming it was a manufacturer's issue without even looking at the unit. The toilet Josh installed in the master bathroom had a slow leak for weeks which caused damage and mold to baseboards and drywall. I had to fix the leaking supply line myself because Josh was "too busy" and Protex has never repaired the baseboard or drywall. We came to find out later, Protex's crew used to be wood framers for track homes, but Josh routinely asks them to perform plumbing and electrical work, where he should be using subcontractors licensed and trained for that specific trade. The work was not invoiced in a professional manner or on time. We believe this was done on purpose in hopes that we wouldn't remember what a crappy job Josh had done and he could still get paid in full. Anyone considering hiring Protex should do their homework. We have just completed a complete kitchen remodel with Josh and Protex Construction after some water damage destroyed our previous kitchen. They were a pleasure to do business with from the very beginning until the project was completed. They understood we were having to deal with our insurance company due to the nature of the damage and were completely understanding and willing to work with us and the insurance adjuster when needed. We had an 11 month old at the time the job started and Josh and his guys were all very kind to our young one and willing to work around him and the challenges that having a baby in the house caused for them. They were even willing to let out cats out of the bedroom when they were done with work at the end of the day!! We were forced to move out of the house while much of the work was being completed and Protex was wonderful about making sure that we were kept informed every step of the way even when we were not there. I received a text or a call every day to update me on exactly what was being done, who would be in my house and when. I appreciated that the workers showed up on time every morning and that work continued on a day to day basis, there were not days when no one showed up to work because they were at another job. I felt like my small job was as big a priority as anything else they may have worked on. The work zone was completely tented off from the rest of the house to cut down on mess and Protex even arranged for the house to be cleaned before we moved back in. Excellent service.
