Just enjoyed an office holiday party here. It was a good opportunity to evaluate this side of the their food business. We had the upstairs bar to ourselves. Other than the bartender not knowing how to make basic drinks (he was fine pouring beers), it was a great time. Food was awesome. Pizza here is reminiscent of Chicago pizza - no, not deep dish. In Chicago, deep dish is for when your friends/family come into town. Wings were as good as always. The mini reubens and grilled cheese sandwiches were terrific. This is the place where my coworkers and I go when we can't agree on other options. Their menu has something that'll make everyone happy. I like their salads but my coworker swears by the one eyed burger. Essentially, this place gets the job done. If you're looking for food when you're hungry, or if you're looking for a quiet place to get hammered for a good price, this place reliably gets it done; but, it isn't the kind of place I'd take friends who were visiting DC. read more

Awesome neighborhood bar. Great happy hour deals!! I went there during March Madness and they had some ridiculous wing special, I can't remember what it was but it was a steal. I've heard others say that Stoney's has good food "for a bar." But I think this undercuts how great the food actually is. Stoney's has good food, period. The first time we went to Stoney's, it was on a fairly busy Sunday afternoon. The server was super nice but not very knowledgable about the menu. I always like to ask what's good because servers tend to steer you in the right direction. This place has mainly bar type food and sandwiches. We ordered the spinach dip and I got the Thunderbird and my husband got a burger. The spinach dip was average at best. My husband said his burger was decent. And my sandwich was outstanding...turkey, gouda and bacon deliciousness surrounded by sourdough love. I'd highly recommend getting that sandwich. In fact, we have gone back twice now just so I can get that sandwich. And their fries are decent too. If you are in the area and are craving a really great sandwich, go there and get the Thunderbird! read more

We went to Stoney's on a Sunday morning to grab some grub after a night out on the town Saturday night. Despite being slow in the restaurant, the service wasn't very attentive. The food was not good. I had a hamburger with the Stoney sauce and a cup of chili. Both were subpar. One of my friends had the steak and eggs and another had an omelet. The steak was supposed to be medium rare but it came out well done, and the meat wasn't very quality to begin with. Thankfully, the server took it off the bill. I'm sure it's a fun place to watch a game or grab a drink, but I wouldn't recommend it for dining. read more

I arrived at Stoney's for the first time on a Friday night. Stoney's filts the profile of average DC bars downtown. It looks like it has been around 100 years with little done to update it except some flat screen tvs. The menu had some basic pub food, so I ordered the grilled Ham and Cheese. I must say I did not have a high expectation of Friday night American bar food, but not even those expectations were met. They must have used a stick of butter on this sandwich, and by the time I picked it up to eat it, it barely had the consistency of a sandwich. I know people like super fatty things when they go out drinking on a Friday night, but i thought it was kind of ridiculous. When I go out to eat at a bar, i am looking for something basic to tide me over. The purpose is not to eat something that is so fatty I would never have the stomach to make in my own house. It is pushing the envelope on things like this that is making America fat. Ease up on the butter--it's just a grilled cheese sandwich. read more

Came here for a friend birthday and had a great time! They have some interesting beers here- and they're all pretty decent. The guy actually could tell us about it more than just the name- so that is a definite plus. We set upstairs around 6, which was empty except a group of us, but by 8 it was pretty full (but you could still snag a seat). It's definitely got a cozy feeling. My friends persuaded me to try the grilled cheese sandwich- and I'm so glad I did. It was fabulous! I'd go back for a beer and grilled cheese anytime. As many reviewers have said before, this is a standard neighborhood bar. Friends and I came here for trivia night and boy was it packed. I read the tips to get there early, but I clearly didn't come early enough. The beer choices were decent and the trivia okay (too many male centered obscure sports questions), but I was most looking forward to the grill cheese and fries. We ordered a bunch to share and my personal favorite was the rocket, but by all means it didn't blow me away. I thought the bread was too hard and grape tomatoes kept falling out anytime you went to take a bite. The fries were good as was the spinach dip. I like Stoney's because it has a very casual unpretentious vibe, something that's hard to find in DC these days. This is my favorite laid back bar in DC. The food is definitely bar food, but great for what it is. You can usually get a table and the kitchen is open late. Good selection of beers on tap and a good atmosphere. Wait staff is hit or miss though. It's a perfect spot to meet friends for a casual meal and drinks. read more

A few of us tried to go to Churchkey one day and, after deciding against that when it felt like their A/C had broken, we decided on Stoney's because it looked less expensive than most of the other places in the area and didn't have a wait for a table. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the place got pretty busy a little while after we got there but we never felt like we were being rushed out, which was good since we hadn't gotten together in a while and had a lot to catch up on. And although the house-brewed beer was the only one you could get in a pitcher, we didn't mind because it was delicious. The pub food was good, too. read more

There's nothing new I can say about this place in the way of food (the grilled cheese is just delicious), but the last three times I came here (over the course of a year), I acquired mosquito bites I didn't have when I walked in. Sorry to say that this place has ZeRo atmosphere. Loud for no reason and the food is greasy. Bartender messed up our order, missed the soup to our Freddy grilled cheese. The beer on tap is decent but not for anyone who wants to have good eats with a friend - can't hear sound of your own voice. As a neighborhood place, this is about as good as it gets. The burgers, reuben, cheesesteak, and pretty much everything I've had on the menu is solid. Good fries, and possibly the best buffalo wings in town. Big, the right amount of heat, and served with a big side of bleu cheese (I don't think I've ever ordered a different appetizer). The wait staff has always been friendly and quick without making you feel rushed out. Always a solid beer selection, with about a dozen solid choices on tap. The pizza is pretty good too. I wish they had more than a couple tables out front. read more

So after reading many other great reviews about this place, I decided to take some visiting friends there for lunch. I have to admit, I am not sure what everyone was raving about. The service was great, I'll give it that. But I was very disappointed in the food. I had the crab cake sandwich and fries. The fries were kind of cold and soft, no real flavor to them. Maybe I am just picky, but fries are very important to me! The sandwich was just ok. I felt as though the crab cake was kind of small and not put together well; it kept falling apart. This place is great. I live only a few blocks away so I have been here a bunch of times. My roommates and I will usually walk over to the Whole Foods area thinking that we will try some place different, but we almost always end up here. The service is quick and there is a decent selection of beers. The chicken fingers are amazing, as well as the Texas burger.
