We have eaten here many times in the past and it's always been a good place to eat, however, today new years day we ordered food to go and almost everything was good. I got the combo plate with quarter chicken and ribs and I don't know if it was a slow day so food didn't move well but both the thigh and the ribs were so very dry I had to choke down the one and only bite of each, needed liquid to help it down. Probably the worst ribs I have ever had. I may give them another shot in the future but will be hesitant to try the ribs. This place is a upscale Pat and Oscar's. They have family style here, but we chose not to try it out this time around because non-meat eaters, so we all just go vegetarian rolls or salad. We shared the garlic mashed potatoes and breadsticks. The mashed potatoes were flavorful and had a crust (like it was broiled) to it, which I really liked. The breadsticks, were buttered and had parsley and garlic on them, it's like a kicked up version of Pat and Oscar's, although I think I like Pat and Oscar's breadsticks a little more because it's a little more buttery and unhealthy. I ordered the Stonefire Fiesta Salad. I chose the tri tip, and I really enjoyed the salad. The salad is in a tostada shell like a taco salad. Everything was good except the shell was kind of stale so I didn't eat it. The salad is pretty fresh, with bell peppers that give it a good crunchy texture to contrast the lettuce. If I could give 100 stars I would! We used them to cater our wedding, exceptional food and service since we had our tasting to the cleanup at the wedding. The BBQ tri tip, lemon garlic chicken, garden salad with balsamic, pesto pasta and the grilled veggies was what we had. It was all gourmet and so delicious, but also not to fancy. The quality you could taste and the presentation was top notch. To start, there is spacious parking (because the plaza is big, not because the restaurant is empty). I've seen it get SUPER packed during the weekends for lunch & dinner but not so much during the week. You walk up to the register and place your order & pay then seat yourself. You grab your own plates, utensils, drinks, etc. (pretty much everything besides your food) and get a number for your food. My personal favorite is the "Stimulus package" which comes with: breadsticks, salad, pizza and your choice of meat for about $22? I don't re-call if it's on the menu or not but we just order it when we want a lot of food. I also like ordering the pasta (tomesto! - half tomato and half pesto sauce) and a tri-tip entree (comes with breadsticks and salad). So it was our coworkers last day of work and we decided to take her out for lunch. Our boss decided to go to Stonefire Grill. We ordered the family meal which was chicken and full slab of ribs plus a side order of Tri-tip. HOLY SMOKES!! This place is soo good. We first got these bomb bread sticks and a wonderful Cesar salad. The bread sticks were warm and had a good crunch to it. The Caesar salad wasn't over dressed and not sour like other places. So out first was the BBQ tri tip. We had it cooked medium and it was perfect. It was so tender that I only had to take a few chomps to have it fully discintegrated. Hhahaha The flavors were a perfect balance of sweet, tart and salty. Love it. The ribs were excellent a bit short on the meat but I love their BBQ sauce. Its not to sweet nor sour. We order half BBQ chicken and half lemon herb.. Wow both were equally good. I couldve put a whole bowl of rice on top of the juice that was topping the lemon garlic chicken and ate it all up. I think that's what was missing some sort of starch. But for me I wanted some rice. Hahaha Service was excellent. There was a serve checking on us ever 5-10 mins. Heard "Handel" advertising Stonefire on KFI, so we thought we'd give it a try. It's like a very expensive fast food joint.....only most of them serve better food than Stonefire ! Cold, tasteless, over priced food. The bread sticks that all the reviewers are talking about are greasy, skinny-looking tepid pieces of dough. The tri-tip, while tender, is marginal at best in the flavor category.. Food presentation is poor and served on a variety of serving pieces. The sides we ordered were cold. Each item is delivered to your table by different runners in no specific order. The ceiling is very high making the decible so loud that you end up screaming at the guy sitting next to you, just to be heard. We just had a very poor experience and would never return. But whatever it was, it was all good and couldn't believe how much food I walked away with. I thought I was feeding 2 people - not 20 - for dinner. We were looking for a new and different place that serves barbeque other than Luicille's and Wood Ranch. Thanks to Yelp, it led me to Stonefire Grill in Fountain Valley. I went through a few pictures and I liked what I saw. It looked like a place that would make my two sons very happy as one wanted BBQ and the pickier one only likes pizza and pasta. Once we got into our car, I looked up the location and the Irvine location came up as well so we decided to go there since it's easier to get to. When we got there, I was a bit relieved because I didn't see a big line outside and there are empty tables in the patio area. It's never fun to wait for a table with kids on a Saturday night. Once we headed in, there were tables available as well. It has a very spacious dining room. It's a place where you order at the counter first then you can pick where you want to sit. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, tri tip meal with garlic mash, a full rack of baby back ribs, pesto pasta and a roasted cauliflower. At the beverage bar, you can also pick up your plates, utensils and condiments. Each ordered meal was brought to our table with friendly staff. The pesto pasta I ordered for myself was raved by the whole family. The rigatoni or the tube pasta was al dente. Surprisingly my 8yo preferred it more than his own pepperoni pizza. The tri tip slices were moist, not dry at all. The roasted cauliflower was something different but delish. It's served with a sauce like tahini and lemon juice mixed together. It's so good that my fiancé ordered another one. When our full rack of baby back came, it looked a little burnt on the top (BBQ sauce caramelized). That didn't bother us until a staff named Chandler who checked in with us asking if we wanted a replacement. We thanked him and told him we would be ok with that. After a few bites, other than the burnt parts, the meat was tender and fell off the bone easily. We had no problem finishing up the full rack but I thought in my mind I wished I had asked for a replacement. Chandler came back again to check on us and we gave him our feedback. He then offered us a brand new rack to take home happily. My fiancé had a pleasant chat with him for a while and we learned he has been working for the restaurant for about 21 years. Apparently this location has been in Irvine for 10 years even thought I only just found out about it for the first time today. The other staff worth mentioning is Michael Lance! He was so awesome and offered us more breadsticks. He checked in with us numerous times too. We all had a great experience tonight and we would definitely return again and again. Everything I've tried here has been very tasty, and service has been excellent every single time. What makes it 5 stars is the Stimulus Package and the Salads (I personally like the Stonefire BBQ Chopped with chicken) because it is unbelievably cheap for the quality you get, especially in Irvine! Stimulus Package is ~$25 (not shown on menu) and includes a choice of a combination of their meats (ribs, chicken, tri-tip), a medium sized pizza with 2 toppings of your choice, a salad, and hot garlic parmesan breadsticks which is good for 4-5 people (or 3 very hungry guys). Don't be deceived by the price though, it all tastes amazing! The salads taste very fresh and the "small" portion is roughly twice the amount of salads anywhere else with twice the variety of ingredients and I'd say tastes twice as good. The establishment at first looks like a fancy restaurant but it has somewhat a fast food layout as well, where you order up front first then you get seated at your table. We got some breadsticks to start with... which were okay. As for my order, I wasn't really hungry but I just ordered a small order of Mac and Cheese. It was huge! And not bad of a price, about $5. It was pretty good. My boyfriend ordered the Tri-Tip, which we thought looked kinda small for the price he paid... we were expecting a big mess of goodness... like most BBQ places we go to, lol. Ordered catering for Christmas Eve party for 12 people. Pickup location was Lakewood. We were promised 5pm pickup. Got there at exactly 5pm and saw about 40 people, mostly upset because their order was late. I got in line and was told they are backed up and my order would be about 50 minutes late. 6pm comes around and I ask again. Was told another 30 minutes!! After waiting around outside with many other upset people, they finally called my order number at 6:50 pm!!! Keep in mind it was a 5pm pickup time. I understand they are busy, but the company only cared about making $$$ that they totally stressed out the staff working there, as it was evident in them running around like crazy and being yelled at by angry customers. Really?? Nearly 2 hours wait time?? Myself and other people waiting all agreed that we would not order from this place again. By the way, the meat was also undercooked, as they only wanted to push out the orders ASAP. Horrible, terrible experience! Food was undercooked and mediocre at best. The food portions for the price are really expensive, they fill it in with bread sticks which I don't eat and a large salad. You have to know what it is before you go in. This is not an average sit-down restaurant. You order at the register, you are given an number, and you get your own drink, silverware, etc. They bring your food out to you. That being said, I think the food is pretty damn good for the money. The portions are huge-- this normally is a negative for me because I often see places skimp on quality so they can serve you larger portions. I am honestly surprised at the negative reviews on the food. The salads here are HUGE and they are chocked full of the good stuff-- you know, the grilled chicken, chopped tri tip, fresh veggies, etc. Another reviewer compared this place to Pat and Oscars-- no way, I think the food is much better. I have been here before every once in a while, but I just found out about the Stimulus package. Now every trip will be worth while!!! The package includes a salad, choice of pizza with two toppings, breadsticks, and choice of meat. Thats a lot of food, can feed about 2-3 people. We got the caesar salad, pepperoni and sausage pizza, breadsticks, and the bbq tri tip. I am not a fan of caesar salad but it was amazing at Stonefire! I loved the garlic bits and it was just the right amount of dressing and cheese. I kept wanting more after I ate a good amount of it! The pizza was delicious as well. Thin crust but not like a flat piece of paper. I liked to dip the crust in extra caesar dressing. The breadsticks were freaking scrumptious. Again, the garlic on it was probably the star of the breadstick. I loved that they were not thick breads that would just get your stomach full. They were so fresh! The Parmesan cheese(?) on top= MMMMMMMMMMmmmMMM!!!! Last but not least...the tri-tip! We had the bbq tri-tip and the garlic butter tri-tip (we ordered two stimulus packages). Both were amazing, but I definitely loved the BBQ better. It was like heaven in your mouth. It was so soft, easy to chew, flavorful, you do not want to stop eating the tri-tip. My mouth is watering just thinking about this piece of meat. I do not know what Stonefire does to their meat but they are doing it right! I can not wait to go back. Service was good.
