I am beyond disappointed with the experience we had here. We arrived with a group of about 10-12 people and politely asked if there was any way we could sit together. Instead of being helpful, we were basically told to "go figure it out yourselves." When we tried moving seats together, we were then stopped and told they had to "ask first," even though no one was offering any actual help or solutions. Once we finally got settled, the service only got worse. The employee who brought our food was extremely rude and made us feel like we were an inconvenience the entire time. Then, while we were simply waiting for the girls in our group to come out of the bathroom before leaving, we were abruptly told we needed to get up because they "needed the table." The way it was said was incredibly disrespectful and unnecessary. I genuinely tried to stay calm and respectful despite how frustrated and uncomfortable the situation made me feel. It took everything in me not to respond with the same attitude we were given. Customer service and basic courtesy clearly do not matter here. Celebrated my son's birthday there. I ordered their Pastrami sandwich with fries. Very disappointing. It tasted like a homemade sandwich with ingredients bought from a grocery store. The French fries tasted like store-bought fries that were simply heated and served. Zero flavor. Food prices are reasonable considering today's inflation. On a positive note, their customer service was excellent! Our server was attentive, kind, pleasant and checked in on us frequently. A vast improvement from previous visits. Kudos to their management for the improvement. Some have labeled this place as a biker-bar or even a dive bar. Management has cleaned that perception up a bit. To: DOJ Civil Rights Division Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Service Denial -- 7:20pm MT -- Albuquerque, NM Dear Stone Face Tavern Management, I am writing to formally address an incident that occurred on 12/23/24 around 7pm MT at your establishment located at 8201 San Pedro Dr NE, Albuquerque, NM. On that day, I visited your restaurant with my service dog, and we were unfortunately refused service and asked to leave -- about two minutes as we were heading to seat. The reason provided for the denial of service was that my service dog allegedly "smelled" a table/food. I clarified that it was my service dog. As you may know, service dogs are trained to perform tasks to assist individuals with disabilities, and part of their training includes detecting various scents or identifying changes in the environment. The action of my service dog was simply a natural part of their role and not a disruptive behavior. I asked to show her certifications and such, but a gentleman named "Bill" who identified himself as a general manager, said "He didn't care what I had to show" him, and I "could contacted the mayor and wouldn't care." I did not dispute the objection despite the fact that he was clearly inebriated with Guinness beer at his seat. So we arrived, before we sat, and after he asked us to leave we did. We won't be visiting again . . . Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), individuals with disabilities who are accompanied by service animals are entitled to equal access to public accommodations, including restaurants and other businesses. Denying service based on the presence of a service dog, or their actions, is not in line with ADA requirements. I am deeply concerned that this misunderstanding led to the refusal of service and my removal from the premises. As a loyal paying customer, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect, and I believe that my rights under the ADA were not fully honored in this instance. My first time, can you believe that? Was it as clumsy and quick as my first time with..., well, no, but close! Look, from this rookie to the next, you'll dig the decor! You'll most likely dig the food! You'll definitely dig all of the TV's to watch your chosen game on, but a las, you'll not dig the service much. Oh, and to clarify, the nachos are humongous! We ordered a half and it sure looked like most full-size nachos at other joints. However, in a personal attempt to cut down on beef we ordered chicken, and unfortunately it was absolutely tasteless. Zero flavor! Here's an extremely annoying glitch: they charge extra for just about everything. Yet they don't tell you that going in. When asked if we wanted jalapeños we kind of hemmed and hawed about it because neither of us are huge jalapeño fans, so the gal said we could have them on the side. After the bill came we understood everything. The jalapeños that we really didn't even want in the first place was put on the bill as an extra. Guess what? Not only were the jalapeños extra, so was absolutely everything it seemed all the way down to the buffalo sauce that we ordered on the side rather than being served soaked on our wings. Reading the bill was akin to reading "War and Peace." Here's another extremely annoying glitch: not a single glass or plate was cleared from our table as we emptied them. They were Johnny on spot up-selling us everything they could to get that bill as high as possible (management is clearly pleased with that part), but when it came to the required work that makes the customer feel more comfortable and actually want to come back, they utterly failed! To be honest, I'm not sure what type of joint they want to be and who they want to appeal to. The place seems to cater to an older crowd of folks in their 40's and on up, which is nice, but the waitresses dress like tramps looking to swindle dimwits out of extra tips under the guise of a potential "Hookup." Don't get me wrong, I enjoy looking at scantily dressed women like any other man, however, the ruse is as old as the Bible! Men tip a slutty looking woman more than a conservative looking woman. Statistics prove this, so I get it. However, is that the goal here? To lure in single (and married) naive men who throw their money around aimlessly? Or establish an environment where customers feel like they got their money's worth and want to come back? Because if it's not the latter, aren't their strip joints men can go to for the same treatment? Maybe it was an off night for the staff on this visit, and other nights it's not like this, IDK. All of the staff were super friendly and professional with the exception of one person. I don't know what her name is. So we came in on May 4 at 6 o'clock in the afternoon. Stoneface Tavern is a very interesting and large bar. On one level it's kind of like a Biker bar but it also has several sand beach volleyball courts and play a wide range of music including Tori Amos, which I can't see bikers listening to Tori Amos. They might but it just seems interesting if they do. There's an outside patio, inside bar, and another bar that's in between outside and inside. Beer is the main alcohol selection here however they do offer other kinds of liquor as well. Because I don't drink beer I often get a mixed drink. Each time I've been here, my mixed drink has been pretty weak and not very strong. The food here is pretty good and the portions are pretty large. Also the prices aren't bad. A couple of my co-workers came here and ordered salads which were huge while I had the classic burger and fries, which was very well prepared and tasted delicious. Another co-worker also said that they liked the fish and chips. My husband and I came here on a whim to check out the lively music scene, we were told! Everyone looked like they are having fun on the dance floor, when we walked in! Desiree was our initial server. One of the four of us ordered an IPA, which came in a bottle. It took Desiree over 20 minutes to bring a glass. It really pisses me off when the waitstaff is changing shifts and they want you to tab out because they are leaving. Then why didn't I get someone who was going to be around for a while? So they have a pretty big patio area that they converted to sit "inside" during COVID. The Buffalo chicken sandwich has a super unique sauce on it. It was maybe a smoky, Nashville hot chicken sauce. We went to Stone Face Tavern last night to meet someone and he called the manager over to tell him that his air headed waitresses had made him wait for over 25 minutes for him to be served and if he could comp his first beer. The manager gave him a hard time and finally comped his beer. The manager was wearing a FU 46 button and my friend commented on the button and the manager basically told us that if we didn't agree with the sentiment we should leave. This is typical for this bar since its inception and the owner should be made aware of this as we don't flaunt our political beliefs and should not be subjected to someone else's. This manager should be fired and the bar should get management that doesn't antagonize their customers . We have been loyal customers for years but we won't be back. read more

I wouldn't normally come to a place like this based on the reviews, but a coworker convinced me to come here after a terrible week at work. I came on a Friday afternoon and the service was excellent. Our server, Kelly, brought the food out in less than 10 minutes after we placed the order. I had the chicken fajita salad. Joints like this usually specialize in fried food and unhealthy options, so I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised! My salad was comprised of a variety of greens, not just iceberg lettuce!!!! The chicken was incredibly juicy and seasoned well. I will definitely be back for this salad alone. Stone Face Tavern caught my attention today as I drove around the northeast heights. At the intersection of San Pedro and Holly, this massive business includes a bar + restaurant and a package liquor store. After finding a parking spot out front, I made my way inside. It took me a minute to adjust to the layout, but, after realizing there were no seats at the bar, my girlfriend and I chose a nearby table. After the manager checked our IDs, the waitress came over and took our orders. I opted for a pint of Dogfish Head, along with the $2 pizza special: on Mondays, any draft beer purchase can be upgraded with a full pizza for just $2, toppings +$1 each. My girlfriend ordered a 9 oz. Smithwick's. Instead, she got a Smithwick's pint, while I was handed a 9 oz. pour. After the waitress noticed the mistake, she showed the bartender what happened, and my beer was replaced with a pint. Sadly, I don't think 60 Minute IPA is what ended up in my glass. Oh well. And then the pizza arrived. It's at least a personal; my girlfriend and I split it no problem, with a couple slices left over. The style and taste of the pizza reminded me of the little pizzeria in the shopping mall in my hometown, a pleasant bit of nostalgia. For $2, this 'za exceeded all expectations. The sports bar vibe is strong here, and I would not call it family-friendly. It's a slightly divey bar that happens to have an excellent menu, extensive selection of spirits, great taps, and a lot of TVs. It's ok. The bar is cluttered with flags and signs and lights everywhere in a decor that went out of style in 2005. Pretty gauche and dingy. Crowd was upbeat and happy on a Friday night. There were a few women, so not the typical sports bar sausage fest. The nachos we had were decent, but I passed on an entree after others in my party were not overwhelmed by the tortilla burger or the wings. My father and I were passing through Albuquerque and looking for dinner. Sadly, while struggling with Google Maps trying to find something else, we ended up at the Stone Face. Tavern, OK, but a sign said lunch and dinner, so we figured to give it a shot. Walked in, got hit with a tidal wave of noise. It wasn't obvious how the service worked - first we had to identify someone on the staff, then ask whether we would be seated. No - just grab a table; eventually someone will notice you and ask what you want. We ordered from the Mexican selections. The kitchen was slow getting our order out, and when it arrived it was mixed up - he had specified no beans, but his plate had beans and mine didn't. The waitress took the orders back and I guess they redid them from scratch, because it took just as long the second time. This may not have been the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten, but if not I have mercifully blanked out the memory of what was. The chicken in my enchiladas was dry and crumbling. While there was a hint of heat in the red chili sauce, there seemed to be no other flavor - not in the enchiladas, not in the rice, not in the beans. My father had a similar reaction to his food, but said that at least the wine he had with it was good. I don't know what the quality on the rest of the menu is, but anyone who is a fan of Mexican food should not order it at the Stone Face Tavern. I may well pass through Albuquerque again, but if and when I do I'll eat elsewhere. read more

Our crap server couldn't waste her time to even stop walking by when we asked for drinks. Hit or miss, this is all over the spectrum of service. The food is quite good. During this virus issue, only outdoor seating was being offered. But there is no order to go seating, there is no list. You just have to be quick or intimidating to get a seat. It's ridiculous. They have a bunch of staff wandering around so just setup a little podium and take names in the order they arrived. Nobody seems to know anything about what's going on. There are way too many people sitting closer than protocol and employees will take off their masks to talk with customers. What's the point of that. I really enjoy the atmosphere before the restrictions. But don't expect the staff to have your health as a priority. This is definitely a dive bar atmosphere, which are really my favorite. We visited on Saturday hoping to play some volleyball, but were turned away. They stated they recently changed their policies and no longer allowed free play or open play at any time. Their courts are now only for league members at league time, so no practicing available or courts for play. This was a disappointment to find out as my team and I would have been regular Saturday customers for food, drinks, and playing for the next 9 weeks during our Waka league. I understand Waka isn't paying to have courts anytime, this I get and is clear. However, I don't get why they won't open up to public who is willing to pay. This seems a waste of their resource, which is limited in ABQ. This means our team will be going elsewhere to practice and spend money elsewhere. Their fries are good and prices not too bad. We did already order before finding out we couldn't play around. We cashed out quickly and went to a park up the street. During our Monday night scrimmage on their indoor courts, it was pretty obvious there is a dust problem. I know this is a part of playing indoors, but is there a solution other than spraying down the courts between sets all night? This makes it very cold, we even had to open doors. Is there a ventilation system in place? I have pretty severe asthma and had trouble breathing. After returning home and blowing my nose, it was pretty disgusting. I get this is a result of indoor volleyball, but I've played at different courts without this problem. Overall, a solid place but disappointing with their new policies.
