You know. My wife and I have always liked the pizza here. And it for the most part is one of the best in town. And love the cheese curds. So we went this past Thursday for lunch. And we had a bartender with attitude that was frankly, offputting. We have been going here for years. They have a game thing going on, which we don't care for. We just like the pizza and curds. But the bartender was obviously put off that I expressed that I am not a Fan of game as he went thru the specials... mostly game. Again, pizza. In fact, this guy just seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. So much so that while we like the pizza and love the curds... if we show up and he is the bartender... we will just go elsewhere. We watched this behavior with a few customers. And he was not having a Merry Christmas. That we expressed that nicety was rebuked snarkily to myself and another customer with a firm happy holidays. Which is fine, except for the snarky part. So. We have been customers for a decade. Generally good service. Good pizza and original curds. But I don't know if this guy was having a bad day, but I can spend my money anywhere... and I don't need attitude. And I will not tolerate attitude. Because I do not give it. This is my favorite restaurant in the Fox Cities! From their home brewed beer, sodas, fish fry, and pizza you really can't order anything here that you won't love. I always get the cream soda and it is easily in my all time top 5 cream soda list. (I know that it's crazy I have one of those!) You can even order a growler of it! Depending on my mood when I come here I normally start with cheese curds and move on to pizza or the fish fry. All of their pizzas are fantastic and I loved their fish fry when I had it. My family and I decided to have lunch here only because of the Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews. Home Run for us! The food is outstanding. We had the $10 beer sampler and shared it with 4 adults. The homemade root beer is phenomenal. The fact that they don't put artificial colors in it makes us and our taste buds happy. We ordered the Bison Bacon Blue Burger, children's chicken fingers, Organic Biergarten salad, 4 year aged Cheddar burger, and smothered blue burger. It was delicious. They also have a gluten free menu. As a food conscious person my family and I appreciate that they put an emphasis on organic, and sustainable foods as well as grass fed meats. I don't know when I will be back in Appleton but I will be sure to tell everyone I know about it. What an awesome treat for out-of-towners! Menu was full of classic fare, but so many unusual choices too! We tried the gator bites and their award-winning cheese curds - so good! Loved that they were taking the pandemic seriously, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal with the peace of mind that every precaution was being taken to keep their customers and staff safe. We ate at Stone Arch and we were very disappointed. Service was very slow and very non welcoming. Food was asked to be medium rare on the Bison berger and it was oevrcooked to slab status. It also was so thin as to be close to non existent. Bun was tough, seemed old. Had to beg to get check to leave, but waiter was too busy smoking with staff and a friend. They brew their own beer, which was very good. The food was also good - they served some interesting items on the menu that are not often found at a brew pub. Place has tons of character and enjoyed the winding stairs to get to the restaurant. Enjoyed the stonework and the layout of the place. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Service is a little slow, especially for the Monday night I went. Started with a beef and barley soup. Broth was thick and flavorful. Good hearty flavor and lots of beef in it! Tried the jaeger schnitzel. I am a German food snob as my grandmother cooked the best schnitzel and bratwurst... My meal was really enjoyable. Schnitzel was thick but, tender, juicy, and enjoyed the breading as well. The spaetzel was really good and the grilled asparagus finished the plating! grandma would have been proud. Stopped in here for dinner with my wife. We're a big fan of gastropubs and this one is also a micro-brewery. Atmosphere is great. The building is very old and the bar and dining area are literally downstairs in a stone cellar. The menu is created using local products which is also a plus. I'm not a beer drinker but I did order their house brewed Root Beer. It was a lighter colored variety and it was very good. Unfortunately it came with no ice and the glass wasn't chilled so it warmed up pretty quickly while drinking it. We started off with the Scotch Egg which was good. The exterior was a little overdone so the breading was very chewy. It was served with a flavorful dark beer mustard. I elected for the Bison Stroganoff with spaetzel for my meal. The bison was overcooked and tough. Bison is very lean so it needs to be cooked to a lesser temperature than an equivalent beef dish. Medium to medium rare would have made for a wonderful dish as the gravy was quite good. Servers were very friendly and attentive initially but I ordered a second Root Beer that was forgotten about for several minutes. The server was very apologetic when she returned and realized that she hadn't brought it out yet. We will definitely come back for another round but they need to kick it up a notch. Met friends here for lunch this week. The brewery operation is what you see as you enter the building and looks impressive, however, the smell (of the hops?) was a little off putting. The restaurant is located downstairs in the basement and the space does seem a bit dark and cramped. The menu offered a somewhat surprising diverse offering, including an Indian Curry. I considered that but opted for a different featured menu item - the house made black bean burger. I was asked if I wanted provolone cheese on top and was glad I did because without it, I don't think I could have eaten such a dry burger. Even the avocado on top didn't save it. The others in our group enjoyed their meals much more than I did. The salad bar, which prides itself on having mostly organic and/or local ingredients, made me wish I had chosen that instead. And the cheese curds were a hit as well. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive so while my experience may have been a one-two star, it was balanced out by others dining with me. read more

Great atmosphere for a local brew pub, at the base of the Skyline Bridge, with thick irregularly shaped bricks forming the 1858 built walls. Nice large wood deck fronting the entrance. Better weather and that deck would make for a good before dinner drink. Although busy, we had to wait only slightly. They took us without a reservation. A short time later, we were examining a full menu. The choices were a bit misleading. They offer 'range grown' beef on the menu, the waitress had to clarify that it was 'grass fed' beef. And it was excellent! Drinks were refreshed during meal promptly. Service was attentive and evenly paced. The sweet potato fries on the side, pleasing. Many beers offered. Since you can't drink them all at once, I guess I will just have to keep trying new ones on return visits. I will be happy to weave down the stairs that lead to the warmest cellar in town. read more

Stone Cellar is one of our default restaurants for our weekly date nite. We were here on Friday, Sep. 30 around 6 pm. We were seated immediately which is rare for a Friday. Ryan was our server, very friendly and inviting. I ordered a pretzel and we each ordered a drink from the bar. Drinks came immediately but the pretzel took like 15 minutes! Ryan said there were too many pizzas in the line ahead of us. Pizza's? Yes, they're cooked in the same oven! Later, I asked for an ice tea but it never came. Seemed like the wait staff was also cleaning tables even though there was someone assigned to do just that job! Keep an eye on your own waiter and flag them down before you really need a refill or something else to drink! It maybe time to reevaluate the default restaurant list. read more

Had lunch here a couple months ago while on vacation with the family and just getting around to writing this review. However, I feel as though I should provide some feedback for such a great place. First of all, the restaurant atmosphere was great. Semi-dimly lit, all wood, stone cellar is the restaurant. Very clean and nice. Secondly, the service was great. Ordered a beer flight and enjoyed each brew. I even purchased a six pack of their vanilla stout to bring home. Lastly, I had the beer mac and cheese and I can honestly say that it was the best mac and Cheese I have ever had. Overall, an excellent choice for a good brew and a great meal. Cheers! read more

We have been here numerous times and while I absolutely adore almost everything about this place, I find the food to be really hit or miss. The pizza is always fabulous. The sandwiches are just okay. Their signature dishes are generally amazing. Specialty drinks are delicious. The beer and soda are their own brand and are really great. The atmosphere is very cool (although not in a "it's cold in here sort of way - it's usually hot which is strange since it's a basement).
