We drive by this place all the time and finally stopped in for a to-go order. The place is very cute with a lot of pretty wood and country vibes. They have a lot of different options from a normal cheeseburger to more complex burgers (patties soaked in wine). They have the general appetizers of a burger joint. We tried the fried pickles and the fried mushrooms (I've had better but they were okay). So surprised and thrilled to see two vegetarian burgers!!! You can choose from a black bean burger (very good and well seasoned) or a soy burger. Onion rings are good and offered thick and thin cut. Fries are bomb! Out of every burger joint in town, I'd so far rank Stomp's as my favorite. I got invited here by my work party and found the selection of burgers pretty adequate, and took some time to decide on the Outlaw but was glad for every second of it, as the combination of chile and cheese is basically always a winner, and with other Texan/Mexican/Southwestern ingredients to mix with the juicy patty and enormous bun, the result is simply unforgettable and quite a bargain. I wouldn't have ordered the onion rings if I'd known how huge they would be, but then I would have missed out on the best onion rings in town - thicker than Chuck Norris' bicep, with crispy and yet ever so slightly falling-apart coating, and the onion itself tender without being mushy. The service is good and the front area had a TV for sports watching, and the tables are simple and outdoorsy without being or appearing purposely run-down. Often you want run-down, but one can look professionally Spartan and Stomp's interior does just that. I have not yet been to Tookie's to compare, but it will have a very hard time beating Stomp's, as this place is a downright classic. read more

This is not the first time my husband and I have been to Stomp's. We have been going there since they opened a few years ago. After living outside of Texas for a year, we wanted to visit our favorite burger spot the first chance we got. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food. We ordered their sampler appetizer. We got the snake eggs, which is basically a fried cream cheese ball with jalapeños, fried pickles and fried mushrooms. The appetizers were delicious. And as long as you like cream cheese, I definitely recommend you try the snake eggs at least once. I got the Jessabelle hamburger. It comes with cream cheese and raspberry chipotle jelly. I was disappointed with the hamburger patty itself. They used to taste fresh and juicy. This time is was a thin, dry patty. My husband got "The Stomper." He usually gets another hamburger but decided to try the house specialty burger this time. He was very disappointed. The menu claims that there is: guacamole, sour cream, picante salsa, retried beans, lettuce tomatoes etc. In reality, it seemed like, there was a sliced avocado wedge mashed up on the bun, canned refried beans and microwaved Pace salsa. On top of that it was like the cooks placed the bun on the plate and then piled/slapped everything on the hamburger. There was no way to eat this thrown together mess. Since we had been going for years, we chopped it up to a fluke and perhaps just a bad day for the chef. So, we were not going to send it back and make a big deal. Our waitress seemed like she didn't care about our meal or eating experience. She would ask " are y'all okay" and walk off before we could even open up our mouths to answer. Although, she did do a good job of keeping our drinks full. When we were checking out the owner asked how our meal was. My husband expressed that he was disappointed in their house speciality burger. Instead of the owner apologizing or asking for some constructive feedback to back it better, he quickly replied "well where is it" we told him the waitress had taken the hamburger already. Then he rudely asked "what do you want me to do about it." We were not asking for a free meal or dessert or anything like that. But anytime someone would ask us how our meal was, they either had an attitude or they wouldn't stick around for our reply. Overall, I gave it gave two stars because the food was still decent. But the customer service was HORRIBLE. It's one thing when the food isn't up to par, but it's another thing completely when the owner is a jerk instead of trying to make his customer's experience the very best possible. Wow, The sign said stomps, but my food was not anything like described here on Yelp. I remember Tookies, knew the owner, his mom, and was the first to get a beer when they finally obtained their license. I also was friends with Stomp, whom the original "Stomp's Ice House Special" burger was made for..... before it became a fixture on their menu. I ordered the outlaw burger which was supposed to be fashioned after the "Stomp's Ice House Special" ....... lame excuse for the original. Period. The jalapenos were not hot, the onions were near non existent, and the meat.... well ... whataburger has more flavor. At this point, I'm thinking I had arrived in the twilight zone where nothing was as it seemed...... The onion rings that was served to me, sucked, plain and simple. Greasy and the batter fell off in tiny crumbles, unable to eat at all. With all due respect, the rings at the table next to ours did look better. The half and half ordered was small for being over 3 dollars. Two burgers, two sides, and two drinks was 25 bucks...... for quality like this???? hmmm This place has no relation to Mr. Stomp, who is a resident in the area. This place was not busy so that can't be an excuse(4pm on a Sat.), the waitress failed to bring us water on two requests..... forgot my rings and had to be asked again to bring them. The cashier did remove the rings from the ticket, but didn't seem to care any less. Must of been an off day? I hope so. Too far to drive for poor service and poor quality. read more

Much better than what I remember at Tookie's! Hey, I remember Tookie's and I never understood what the fuss was. But this places...Mmmm! Ken J and I went there for lunch. It was way crowded at noon on Fri; it was hard to park. But they've added additional parking across the side-street., it's an all-gravel lot. As we came up there were people sitting on the porch in rocking chairs. I got the Outlaw, double meat, no bun. It was awesome. It looked delicious and massive on the plate, with diced jalapenos all over it. Another customer asked me "What did you GET?" and just shook his head and laughed. I washed it down with diet Dr Pepper (they don't have diet Coke.) Service was slow; waiter said the kitchen was short handed. Ken's onion rings were thin, not very crispy; the waiter said next time to order the double-dipped (daresay he should have suggested that when we ordered.) read more

What am I missing here? Besides hot food and great service? Because we were definitely missing those things...maybe we came on an off day. But really, there wasn't anything that made me want to come back and see if they would have an on day. This has been on our list of places to try forever, and since hubby was craving a yummy, juicy hamburger, and since Steak and Shake's line was out the door, we decided to try here. Figuring we have already been to Tookie's, we wanted to see what the Stomp's/Tookie's rivalry was about... much ado about nothing methinks. They weren't really busy, but we picked a table off to the side in the little add-on room; the server was prompt with getting our drink orders but that's where the quick service ended. She took our order; hubby got a burger and fries and I got a turkey burger and onion rings. Then we waited...and waited....and waited. I understand that there will be a wait at places, and truly I do NOT mind a wait when the food is worth it. I had hopes that the food would be worth the wait. Sadly, my hopes were stomped. The server finally stopped by again and said she would go see what was taking the kitchen so long....then came right back out with the food. Huh. Hubby wondered how long the food had been sitting there and after biting into the lukewarm burger and fries, we figured probably about 10 minutes at least. The turkey burger tasted decent, but again, wasn't hot; the onion rings were OK. They weren't hot and the breading kept falling off so all I was getting was the onion. So that wasn't impressing me much. Hubby had maybe 10 fries on his plate. Seriously. Fast food restaurants give you more fries! So, very few fries and cold at that. Blah. His hamburger was cold as well, and kept crumbling in his hand. His dreams of a wonderful, juicy, greasy burger were just that....dreams. We would have told the server this if she had ever come back to check on us, but she didn't. Granted, they got busier, and maybe she had gotten busy, but to not at least check on your customers to see if they are enjoying their food is not a good plan. We did get a discount when we told the lady who took our money about how unimpressed we were, but she really didn't act like it was anything out of the norm. She said she was sorry, but again, more like, I'm too busy to really care, but I know what you want to hear. So, unless someone really has a hankering for Stomp's, I doubt we will be back. Ok so I went twice so I could really make a good review(the things I do for Yelp). So I will start with the ambiance. Stomps is very small and rustic. Inside it is nice but not a lot of room with wooden tables. I sat out back the second time on the screened porch. Surprisingly even though it was the summer of 2011 around 7 pm it was pretty comfortable with all the ceiling fans. Sure there was road noise but not bad(maybe they should add some music though). On to the burgers I tried the Trail rider because I love me some chili burgers. It was nice looking but their chili is mostly tomatoes and taste more like sloppy joe than chili. The regular cheese burger is nice and big and fairly juicy so I would go with that one. The second time I went for the Drunken Dog. Beer battered fried jalapeno dog with sauerkraut, bacon, cheese, and grown mustard. I know that sounds awesome but it was just ok. It was so dry. Even the kraut was dry. They put it in the oven and it just dries everything out too much. Good idea but bad execution. The rings(get double battered) are good and the fries passable. For value get a kids burger that comes with fries for 3 bucks. It is still an ok size burger and a great value anyone can order. Service is friendly but slow and hectic. I actually saw waitresses running on the porch! My beer was empty and I was never offered another. Checking out they seem confused about prices and such so I wondered if I was charged properly. Known for their burgers, Stomps makes a passable one. Lisa C. and I tonight went down to Kemah area to do the Bay Area Burger Challenge (I think she's calling it something different - what do you want? Coordination? Feh!) We shared a burger here and a burger at Tookies, a long-standing institution in the Kemah area. To make a long story short, while Stomp makes a good burger, Tookies takes it to a whole other level. That's not to say that Stomp's burger was bad, it was far from bad, it was good. But while I'll be happy to go back to Stomps to eat, I don't find myself craving their burger the way I do Tookies. As I mentioned in my Tookies review, Lisa C. and I shared a cheeseburger with Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Pickles. Again, no mayo, I'm with Jimmy the Tulip on the whole Mayo issue. We also ordered a 1/2 and 1/2 order of onion rings and fries. The O-Rings were very good, though the batter was falling off in places. But they simply didn't stand up to Tookies which had a better flavor and better batter. The fries... well...sadly they looked like pre-cut, bagged fries to me.. which mostly is fine, but this was a competition and they lost out to Tookie's hand cut, skin on fries. And lost badly. We left a lot of fries on the plate. But the Burger was decent. Again, Tookies was better. The bun was too thick, and every bite I felt like I was getting more bread than burger. The burger itself wasn't particularly well seared the way a burger should be and the flavor was, especially when compared to Tookies, a bit bland. Their fixin's were good, but for some reason didn't blend into the flavor as well as their competitor on the other side of the bridge and didn't really seem to add to the burger eating experience. This all sounds terrible doesn't it, but don't let me lead you to believe this was a bad burger, it wasn't. For me, this burger ranks #4 on my favorite burger scale, behind the now defunct Cava Bistro (oh how I miss thee - their burger was simply AMAZING), Tookies, Zacharies and then Stomp's. They beat Tookies on price-point. We had the burger, the 1/2 and 1/2 and two drinks for $11.00 and change...$13.00 after tip. (Tookies was about $5.00 more). Their decor was simple, they didn't have the party atmosphere that Tookies had and you could actually have a conversation here without yelling. For me, these are all pluses. However, I ding them a bit on NOT having WiFi (Something EVERY restaurant should have by now). IF Tookies was closed, I'd go here. And I'll go back. They have some specialty burgers I want to try out and see how they stand up. So this is far from over! read more

Unfortunately, Stomp seems to be spending all his time at his new location or maybe just fishing or something. We go to his original location in Bacliff every Sunday for lunch. We always get the bison burgers. If I can't get a healthy burger, I definitely see no value in Stomps. Last Sunday they were out of Bison. This isn't the first time either. Today they were out of Diet Coke. It wasn't the first time for that either. We left and went to Tookies. When Stomp puts a little effort into managing his restaurant and can have the basics in stock, we'll be back. For now I think it'll be Burger Nation on NASA as they have Elk burgers. read more

We have been coming to Stomp's for quite a while. We kept coming back because it was good. We had a waitress who knew our order before we gave it. We ordered stomper rompers and torcheezees. The stomper romper is a kid's hamburger meal. These are more like 1/4 lb. burgers made with the same meat as the larger burgers. (We can't handle the giant hamburgers served at this establishment, but I hear they're delicious.) A torcheezee is basically a tostada with melted cheese on top served with 1 oz. of chopped jalapenos and picante salsa on the side. They are awesome when done right. Recently things have changed. Within the past 3 months things have deteriorated. My family would go to Stomp's every Sunday and order the same thing. Our last two visits took place in the last month, both were disappointing. Today the torcheezees were undercooked, the cheese was not melted. We had to send them back and they brought new ones out that were still undercooked. They ended up taking them off the bill (that's why it's 3 stars and not 2.) In the last month or so they have changed the buns and the fries. The meat remains the same, which is good. Except the burger my mother received was not cooked all the way, keep in mind this was a kid's burger. The service was fine. I took a little while to get out drinks but, they seemed kind of busy. It looks as though the wait staff has been almost entirely turned over. We probably won't be back for a while. I miss the old Stomp's, it reminded me so much of pre-Ike Tookie's. read more

After going to Tookies a number of times, I finally decided to give Stomps a shot. This wasn't easy, because I enjoyed Tookies each time I've been there and was afraid to risk a sure thing that was just up the road. Heading down to Galveston, we pulled into Stomp's for lunch. The parking lot was just about empty compared to Tookies just a few miles behind us. We went inside and the dining room was fairly basic if not completely uninspired. Don't use Ike as an excuse, because plenty of time has passed. The inside was also really cold, and you rarely hear that complaint from me. The service was quick, polite and efficient, and they had no issue moving us to the back area that wasn't quite as cold as the front. OK, the burgers. This place is about the burgers, and you're just not going to get much better than Stomp's. I went with the double cheeseburger with just meat and cheese. The bun was good, but the meat was great. It had wonderful flavor, cooked just right and had the right amount of juice. Overall, for your basic cheeseburger, you're not going to top it. Now, it could be better by offering a fresh baked jalapeno cheese bun, but that goes beyond your basic cheeseburger. My wife got the chili cheeseburger, and she said it was sensational. She didn't offer me a bite. My kids had the chicken strips, which they devoured, and they looked good. Although I'm still a Tookies fan, if I'm stopping for a burger in the Kemah area, it's most likely going to be Stomp's. I thought the burger was just a little bit better, and once you combine that with faster service and no wait to be seated, I can't really see a reason for going to Tookies other than they have a little bit more on their menu. If you're expecting a Tookies burger/experience you'll be sadly disappointed. My burger was dry, lacked flavor, and was overly salted. My rings were heavily soaked in grease without any crisp what so ever. It also appears Stomps was cited by the Galveston County Health Inspector on 12-02-10 receiving 28 demerit points. The mandatory follow up inspection on 12-15-10 reveled 43 demerit points in violations. Typically not the direction a restaurant wants to head after such a dismal inspection. The Food & service was great although my burger was messy. The curly fries were perfect. We were a little cold so they provided us with a personal heater. My favorite thing to eat there is the regular hamburger with mustard pickles and tomatoes only no cheese and the curly fries with rootbeer. This place is pretty far for me for lunch so I tend to either get carry out or go on a Friday...there were a few exceptions to this rule because well, it's pretty darn cheap. There are many varieties to the types of burger you would like such as buffalo! No, not the lean buffalo, but the buffalo sauce burger. YUM. I usually get a plate of fries/onion rings to share with my coworker because it's $3. My burger is $5-6 dollars depend on how fancy you want to get so your meal comes around under 8 bucks. The patty is cook well and still juicy. It comes with condiments on the side such as lettuce and tomatoes. You pay at the counter once you're done, but you can sit anywhere you would like when it's not busy. Parking is still not paved and you're going to be parked on gravel. read more

I come here pretty often being the drive takes a good 45 mins or so to get there. This is by far my favorite place to get a burger from! I get the southern bell with blue cheese crumbles and it's absolutely to die for! I also always order the rattlesnake eggs and I can get full on those alone lol always beautifully made and served with creamy ranch. YUMM!! I have to say first, I love a place that thinks to offer onion rings in both "thick" and "thin" cut... Yes.. After leaving Dallas, we were hunting for a good burger and Stomps/Tookies was recommended. Seeing a few indications that Stomps is actually better than the original Tookies, we came here first and were not disappointed. I had to get the Honkey-Tonk, which is ridiculous because it has sausage and bacon and BBQ sauce on top of a burger, but hey..you only live once. The sausage was great but I think the burger would've been excellent without. BF had the...one with bacon mixed in. He said there wasn't a lot of noticeable bacon, so I'd probably just get bacon added on top, but the burger was delicious. They offer the traditional set-ups as well as more eclectic offerings, like those mentioned above. Sweet potato fries and thin onion rings rounded out our feast and were perfectly done. read more

Nice little burger dive. Food was pretty good, our waiter seemed distracted. Made little mistakes, drinks without straws, food without silverware, food was late getting to the table so it was warm, but not hot. We ordered Chili Cheese Fries, got them AFTER we finished our burgers. I'm sure this doesn't happen all of the time. My wife and I assumed the waiter had things going on outside of work. Honestly disappointing. The burgers were bland, which is a shame because the food seemed fresh and decent quality. I ordered the Stomp Burger and my sister ordered the tumble weed. EDIT 8/2016 - the onion rings are always greasy the last few times i have been and the breading isnt stuck to the onions. Need to revamp these! They have a GREAT turkey burger, i cant speak for the beef bc i don't eat it but everyone that ive gone with loves their burgers and goes back. Onion rings are huge and really good, i have had them once before when they were too greasy but every other time they are great. The food is really decently priced go with someone, grab two burgers and one order of onion rings to share and youll be good to go for under $20! Stomp's is a pretty neat restaurant that looks like it's from the old west. It warrants a strong 4 as I cannot give it 5 stars... yet. I have a feeling they have room for improvement in a few areas. They definitely have potential to be a 5 star joint. The burgers: I had the Outlaw burger, which is pretty spicy and also pretty messy. But I'm not complaining. The meat on the burger was satisfying, and the mess wasn't a big deal at all. The seasoning and sauces had a good flavor that wasn't too hot to make you gulp down a bucket of water. The french fries were average and the onion rings weren't bad either, although they were a dollar more. I think the pricing is slightly deceiving. Yes, it is cheap to buy a hamburger... by itself. Once you add on your fries (rare occasions call for a burger without fries or at least some type of side) or onion rings and a drink, you're pushing $10. Two people ate here for $21 and some change, not including tip. Sure, I think it was worth it, but I kept hearing how cheap this place was. I don't think it should be known for that. It should be know for good value, but not being cheap (the burgers are pretty big). The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. They were very nice and helpful. Overall, although it's a bit of a drive for me, I'll definitely be back. I really want to try more of their burgers and see how they stand up to the Outlaw burger. I love my burgers, and this place does it right! I love the small mom and pop feel of this joint and the casual dining atmosphere. The prices here are reasonable and the burgers are a good size and delicious! I ordered mine with avocados and sliced jalepenos and I was more than satisfied. The fries here are pretty good too and so were the onion rings. I have nothing more to say about Stomps other than it's a solid place for a good Texas size burger at a decent price. Being a Tookies fan and former cook, as a reincarned Tookies, they have done a pretty good job. Everyone I heard ordering were ordering off the Tookies menu (Double Bean Burger instead of Frito Bean-ditto or the Stomps Icehouse Special instead of the Outlaw). We ordered the Bean Burger, the Stomps, half-and-half and a couple of beers and the total was less than $20 with tip. But this is not Tookies (in a good way)! There is more meat on the burgers, and finally having an "Ice house Special" with a beer was marvelous. The Onion rings are done well. The others complaints about the OR's are mostly caused by the thickness of the rings. Tookies used to have at least an 1/8th inch "deep" ring. These are a lot thinner and because of that flexibility the batter comes off easily and there is not "meat" to the ring to hold the oil. This will be a better place than Tookies for many reasons including several interesting things on the menu, value pricing and free refills on flavored fountain drinks. Looking forward to the outdoor deck and better parking. Even the ITH people in Houston should get out and enjoy! read more

Stopped by Stomp's for a change of pace. Got the cheeseburger and half and half (fries and onion rings). The burger was totally ok, maybe even good. The onion rings and fries however were very good. I enjoyed my meal and the staff was pleasant. Nothing exciting to say but a totally decent meal. It's so close to Tookie's though, so I will probably go there next time. read more
