Of course I would start out a review with a Pulp Fiction quote. But it has a point. Remember Tookie's? That big green house right off the water? Those big juicy burgers? Hurricane Ike? The loss of Tookie's? Enter STOMP right meow. Conveniently located near La Brisa (the good one on 146) and Bucee's on 96, what you have here is a tasty burger situation, even better than Jules considered Big Kahuna Burger to be in the film Pulp Fiction. The staff of Tookie's moved further down 146 into Bacliff recently. I was here a few weeks ago and it was still pretty brand-spanking-new. You are going to miss it if you are not paying attention. If you are coming from Kemah or you turned in off of 96 onto 146, it is pretty close after the 96 intersection. If you hit the strip club or La Brisa you have gone too far. The building is sort of an older looking rustic house with a small parking lot right in front of the house's front door. The building is not huge, things do fill up at lunch. They open at 11am and I got there at about 10:55am. The waitstaff was awesome, they did not throw a tantrum and ask us to leave, instead they seated us and we had already ordered our big tasty burgers and drinks before they had "officially opened" - and that is just the beginning of how awesome this place is. The menu is large and diverse in the world of burger-ology. They have a turkey burger for the health conscious. They have a chili burger for the chili lover. They had a tasty jalapeno based topping burger for someone like me. And unlike most big juicy burger places, you can choose white or wheat. Me and my wheat bun were happy with our first date. Another reason why I really like this place is that they do not price gouge you to do fun things like get 1/2 order of fries and 1/2 order of onion rings for the truly indecisive person who wants to eat both, but does not want full orders of both right meow. Burger: high quality ingredients for toppings, apportioned just right in relation to the meat and bun. The meat itself is juicy, tasty, and cooked to perfection. It comes out warm and you can tell it is fresh, it is not a Whataburger scenario at all. The bun is a perfect compliment, it is sized correctly for the meat, it does not swallow the burger and it is not a tiny little cracker on top of meat either. Fries: they are the larger, heftier sort of fry. It is not a shoe string fry like a Steak and Shake situation. It is more like the kind you get at the supermarket with a big helping of potato inside the skin. They are not bad. It was not amazing, blow your mind fries. 1/2 order was perfect. Onion rings: I am not an expert on what makes an onion ring perfection, but I did enjoy eating these. They are a bit greasy, but I believe that is the point of them, no? Waitstaff: friendly, nice, constantly moving. Will I mosey on down to Bacliff for a burger again? Yes, I definitely will. read more

Wanting to go somewhere other than our usual haunts, we decided to go to Stomps after reading the great reviews. First impressions are everything (sorry that's the Realtor in me) and when I walked in, I immediately thought this place was a serious dive, NOT that I have an issue with dives, but when they have warning signs about not tripping on the super uneven floor, then I have a little bit of an issue. There was only 1 available table in the main area, which was dirty, so we sat in the "add-on" in the back. We were greeted by the server fairly quickly and she brought us our drinks, but when she came back to take our order, the Hubs was not ready, so we asked for just another minute so he could decide. Well that turned into being a 15 minute wait and I was getting pretty hangry by that time. I ordered the Bison burger with no cheese and no mayo. So when they brought my burger out, loaded down with cheese, I started to question if this was even my order, especially since they tried to bring someone else's food to us prior to ours coming out and totally forgot about another table's order. The burger was good (surprisingly juicy for Bison since it's so lean), but it wasn't better than what I could get a Tookie's and definitely not better than what hubs makes at home. So, while it was an average burger, the wait time to order and get our food was too long for me ... I think I'll stick to Tookie's or just stay home. LOL! read more

The runner up in the Stomp's v. Tookie's burger challenge. The burger here just wasn't as good. Here is why. The patty was not as well seasoned, nor did it have that flavorful crust on the outside of the meat. I also found that the bun here was rather much. I found myself thinking about eating bread instead of a burger. I am bummed. I was hoping for more, given the recommendation s I had. The atmoshere here is less party time, and that can be a good thing. It is kid friendly here. The service was good as well. Honestly, we will likely be back and will try other items. The burgers are the bomb! The Southern Belle, marinated in wine & picante, is my fav. The Jezzebelle is another standout, with cream cheese and raspberry chipotle. I think most people in this area know about the rivalry between Tookie's and Stomp's. And though I like Tookie's, I'd have to give this one to Stomp, at least as far as the burgers go. I ordered the Honky Tonk (beef with bacon and sausage on top) while my boyfriend ordered the Outlaw. We were given a choice of white or wheat bread, and both burgers that came out felt (and tasted) pretty substantial. The Outlaw burger tasted pretty unique (jalapenos blended with cheese which gave it a spicy kick) while mine was bacon heaven. One of the waiters suggested that we try to the Jezabel (his favorite, apparently with cream cheese and jam, never heard of that of in a burger) or the Southern Belle. The only disappointing thing was they seem to skimp on the sides (we ordered half fries/half onion rings to share and there wasn't that much on the plate, whereas Tookie's practically drowns you in them). It also took them 20 minutes to come out with our orders, though our waitress did explain to us that they were backed up in the kitchen. The place was a lot more packed than it looked from the outside, so I guess just be warned that they can get pretty busy during weekend lunch. Aside from that little hiccup, service was fast and friendly, and the joint itself was charming (there were kooky heads on the wall next to our table) if a bit small. The wooden benches and tables where we were seated reminded me of a barbecue or crawfish joint (complete with large napkin rolls) but I guess it's because it can be pretty messy eating in these types of places. We'll definitely be back! NOTE: If you live in the area and want to order a burger to-go, make sure you don't end up on Stomp's Most Wanted List, which is a list of people who make an order but never pick up. Excellent burgers. The burgers at this place are like the old Tookies We usually share the Frito Bean-Dito (was called a beanburger at the old Tookies.) The onion rings are great. We get the skinny ones -- see picture. The new Tookies is a long way from the old Tookies -- read poor. I have lots of pictures. By the time you look at them you'll have the "flavor" of the place. Update tip: Don't sit in the back room. We did for the first time today. The service is bad plus the benches are hard and very uncomfortable. Between waiting to order and waiting for our burger we waited about 30-40 minutes to get our meal. (Aren't they supposed to be the waiters?) Several people in the main room who came after us got their order taken and served before us. One person in our room who came MUCH after us got an appetizer and then his burger before us. I'm dinging them one star for this experience. UpUpdate: When we went today we made sure we sat in the main room. The A/C blows directly on you and is putting out ice cold air. They are 1/2 lb patties my friends. Great flavor on the pattie. I added avocado and jalapeños. It was awesome. Man piece got some type of chili cheese burger. I tried the chili and it was really good! I found that the burgers were not that greasy. The sides are huge. We ordered two. We only needed one. Small little barn like barn like red building . We started with a Torcheeze Melted cheddar cheese on fried corn tortilla served with diced jalapeno and picante sauce on the side . A friend recommended Stomps, and I'm glad she did. I had the Southern Belle Burger, which is like Tookie's 99; it was delicious. My husband had the Jezebelle, which is topped with cream cheese and raspberry/chipotle sauce. Didn't think that would work out, but I think his burger was better than mine. We got an order of 1/2 fried and 1/2 onion rings. The fries were lame, but the onion rings were spectacular. Next time we'll just get those. My son's kids cheese burger was also very good. The only reason it doesn't get five stars from me is the fries and our waitress forgot us for a bit. She mad up for it in spades by being nice to our 3 year old though. We also had cheesecake for dessert. The frosting was a bit cloying but the cake was wonderful. An overall great - and affordable - experience. We will be back! read more

We really like the burgers here. But last couple of times we have been here we have been completely attacked by flies. So much that it was difficult too eat. This last time was kind of embarrassing because I had relatives in town visiting and they got bombarded with flies. Won't be taking guests there again. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the main room was pretty full so we sat in the side room on a picnic table. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. My son had the burger with the fried egg on top and i had a mushroom swiss burger. We shared an order of fries (so glad we did) and I also had a diet coke. The burgers were a good size and pretty juicy. The fries had some seasoned salt on them but could have used a lil something more. The tab was approximately $20. Not bad. The picnic tables make for some pretty uncomfortable seating so you dont hang around after you finish eating. A solid burger but not sure Id drive out of my way for it. read more

Wonderful Burger Joint. Great names associated with the burgers and meals. I.e. Outlaw and Honkey Tonk. Burgers are filled to the max when they bring them to the table. Fries are on the side and not included with the burger purchase. Few parking spots right outside, however they do have additional parking. 3 people were able to be fed for $30 with tip. Would recommend for a place during "off meal hours" because there is a big rush during meal times. read more

This is one of my favorite little spots close to home. The food is always good. Oddly enough they have great burgers but my favorite thing on the menu is the grilled chicken salad. Everything is fresh and they give you giant portions. My only thing is the service. It's a little slow at times but understandable. 3 stars for service, the burgers, fries and onion rings are great. In fact, the onion rings are some of the best I've ever had. Hit or miss with cleanliness and service. Staff is nice, but too few in numbers. Once you actually get your table cleaned (they are almost always dirty), drinks served and order taken (15 minutes or more at times) the kitchen is slllloooooowwwww. We have never had the burgers served to us in less than 30 minutes (walk in to serve time). Really good food, really poor customer focus. Step it up guys, and you could take Tookies. read more
