    Thursdays Lunch Special
    Alisa W.

This unassuming strip plaza eatery is much bigger inside than it looks with a bar area and a separate dining room that has tables and booths with plenty of room to move around. We stopped for lunch while out running errands in a rainy, chilly late May Pittsburgh day. We remembered this place has a great selection of rotating soups AND beers. How could we go wrong? We were warmly greeted as soon as we came in the bar entrance. There was a music variety playing at just the right volume to be pleasant and not intrusive. We sat at the bar and checked out the soup list first. I was super excited about the crab bisque! The beer board was great- a wide range of mostly local craft brews in a wide range of styles. The menu had a nice affordable ($12-$15) selection of sandwiches, burgers, wraps and salads, but not too many. (I am afraid of Cheesecake Factory menus) A little of something for everyone. I got the "pick 2" with the crab bisque and a 1/2 club sandwich. $12.50. Todd had the daily special; a cheeseburger, fries WITH a cold beer for $15! My bisque was creamy with a good amount of crab, but not a ton. (Sad face) It was really delicious- a great balance of salty and crabby sweet. The 1/2 sandwich looked a little small when it arrived, but on first bite I discovered it was piled high with fixings. Todd enjoyed the huge burger, a perfect medium and took half home. Fries were crispy and hot. Service was great! Attentive but not hovering. And the bartender really knew her beers! Overall, it was a pleasant yummy lunch break. Make a point to stop when you're in the area- try the crab bisque!

The Shorthorn Chili Cheeseburger was everything. Finally went to burger night. Soooo good!

It has been a few years since I wrote a review for Stoke's. Thought it was long time that I write a new one. Originally, I had said the service wasn't good. It has gotten much better over time. It doesn't take as long to sit down or receive your food. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. They take your order, bring your drinks and then check on you before and after the meal. It was great that the service got so much better. The food is still excellent. We have tried most things on the menu although we tend to have a lot of favorites that we flock to most times. My husband loves the French Dip and eats it almost every time we go. He just had it last night and loved it. The Shorthorn Burger is my favorite thing to get. It is huge, the burger is well cooked and the chili and cheese really make it. It is hard to find a good burger in a restaurant. This one is one of the best. My family really loved the BLT when they came to visit and we took them to this restaurant. We still really like the appetizers too. We have never had a bad meal here. You;ll like whatever you order. Go check them out. Get a beer, eat some great food and get some dessert. It's always great to support local businesses.

Stokes Grill is a good place to go to eat. They have a very friendly staff. The appetizers are good. The have a large selection of beers on tap. The meals are very tasty and they do not skimp on taste or portions. If you get a chance, I do recommend trying Stokes Grill!

Stoke's always has a nice beer selection on tap and plenty in the cooler to choose from. You can either eat in the bar area or the dining room - we prefer the bar area. The bartender is your server so if the bar is busy, sometimes they don't get to the tables as often as you might like but you can walk up and get their attention. Their food has been consistent over the few times we've been there. I really enjoyed the roast beef wrap which is nicely grilled and crispy on the outside. Their coleslaw and broccoli salad were both super good! We also tried the green fries which come with artichokes, pesto, and brie cheese that were very good. They get a nice mix of old/young patrons and the vibe is laid back.

    Pitt Dip

I ordered the Pitt Dip and really enjoyed it! Truly the taste of Pittsburgh with your sandwich topped with French fries. It also has provolone cheese, fried onion straws, and garlic aioli to add a wonderful combination of flavor. The roast beef is tender and not fatty, easy to eat and enjoy. On the side is au jus, which adds to the flavor and freshness of every bite when you dip your sandwich in it. As a side I got french fries. Which were crispy on the outside with a soft center, seasoned nicely with salt and pepper. Atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming. The staff is friendly and quick to get you your meal exactly how you ordered. Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes and quality of food. Definitely recommend checking this restaurant out. They have a large menu with plenty of options for everyone's preference and whatever you're craving, from salads to pizza to mac and cheese to burgers to sandwiches and wraps. Also a pretty good draft list of local beers to try.

    Monte Cristo

I am simply amazed as to how many restaurants there are along McKnight Road. I wasn't familiar with this place so we decided to see what it was all about. It's located in one of the older plazas along McKnight and it is almost hard to spot unless you are really looking for it. It is located in the same plaza as Lasik Vision. The place is very spacious, almost too spacious because the layout seems to be off balance or something. Large wide open dining room on one side and a separate bar with some tables throughout in the other room. Our waitress was in training so we had two servers. They were a cute team. Between the two of them we were thanked at least 25 times during our meal. Speaking of the meal, I did something I normally don't do - I ordered a sandwich that I absolutely had no real desire to try but I just had to order it to see how it would turn out. I ordered the Monte Cristo. The menu describes it as such: Ham, turkey and provolone. Battered and deep fried crispy and served with a side of roasted red pepper aioli. It looked liked fried chicken when it was served but I must say it tasted better than I thought it would but it was way too heavy to finish it myself. It would be something fun to order and share with a few people. The aioli gave it a nice zing. The menu overall offers grilled sandwiches, pressed sandwiches, wraps, hoagies, burgers, pretzel sandwiches, salads, 3 kinds of mac n cheese, homemade chips, homemade soups made from scratch, regular and specialty pizzas. My friend ordered the Stokes pick two which is a side salad or cup of soup with a half sandwich for $ 8.00. I look forward to another visit to Stoke's Grill.

We really liked our food at Stoke's. They had a pretty big list of soups that sounded delicious, and wide selection of beers. The Monte Cristo Sandwich (ham, turkey, and provolone sandwich) was quartered, battered, and fried. The roasted red pepper aioli (red pepper mayo) made for a nice dipping sauce. The broccoli salad was a very nice surprise. The broccoli was fresh and raw, the red onion was not overtly oniony, and the dressing was slightly sweet and just enough so you could still taste the other ingredients. On another Yelper's tip, I tried the Ropa Vieja. It's a pressed sandwich featuring slightly spicy shredded pork (carnitas pork) and roasted red peppers with a side of au jus. I selected the onion rings for my side, which were definitely a hit with the batter staying on the onion and not sliding off.

We walked about 10 min and change from our hotel to the strip district location. It is a small little place made up for by its attention grabbing wall art of famous and loved Pittsburgh figures. The menu is easy enough. Pick a protein (there are many options) to go on the sandwich which is the standard cole slaw, cheese, tomato, and fries tucked between two slices of thick, soft white bread. As a vegetarian, I was pleased to see a vegetarian option with both a cheese and an egg and cheese version. GF and I shared and it is not a bad sandwich to share bc the thing is massive. That isn't to say that I couldn't have eaten another half bc I absolutely could have. The thing is so large and busting with ingredients I wondered how I could fit it for a bite but where there's a will, there's a way. It was excellent. What a great combo of flavors and textures. I only wish there was more cheese. I do feel like with the cheese version there should be more than what is in the version with meat but call me crazy. I could eat that every day.

Medium loudness, mainly from people's conversations. Went to bar area, little to right of entering and ordered. Asked for their special and the asked for the type of meat. Didn't know so they suggested I try pastrami and the capicola. Ordered and waited maybe 10-15min and they gave us our order in a big paper bag. It was heavy! Opened up one of the sandwiches to share and nicely the sandwich was cut in half already. Just need to tear the paper wrapper to separate. As you may know, sandwich has Cole slaw and fries on it, so it's thick. Preferred the capicola over the pastrami. Decent amount of meat on the sandwich but waaaayyy more fries than anything. The close slaw adds some crunch and tartness to a pretty mild sandwich. Overall, food was underwhelming. I'd stop by again but for some kielbasa or something ethnic. Otherwise I'd probably just try another nearby place to eat.

Spicy, flavorful, hot, with a shot of flavor every time there's a banana pepper bite. The star of the meal tho was the potato salad. I think I tasted pickle juice and mustard in the wet part of the salad, and they also added bacon. I kept picking at the potato salad even though I was stuffed, it's so good!
