This is a great place to go for take-out! My family & I stopped here for a quick meal on a Friday nite. We got one of the specials - Pepper Burgers & delicious homemade potato chips! The burgers were big half-pound Angus burgers with jalepenos, banana peppers, and cheddar cheese. I wasn't sure I would like this combo, but it was so delicious! I grabbed a menu, and Stoke's Grill also makes pretzel sandwiches, quesadillas, salads, soups, wrapitos, and classic deli sandwiches, too! The chili wasn't too bad it's a lot like spaghetti sauce. The buffalo chicken mac n cheese was ok. It had a loose cheese sauce, not a hard crispy oven baked dish for which I had hoped. The buffalo chicken did have a good flavor so I'll probably get it next time I'm in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to get the mac n cheese or the chili. Found Stoke's from reviews right here on Yelp. Based on my first visit I can concur that the food at this place is fantastic. It doesn't look like much from the outside, or even from the furnishings inside, but it's the food that counts. I had the Ropa Vieja (pressed sandwich with carnitas pork, red peppers and grilled onions with a side of au jus) and one of the soups of the day, tomato pepper jack. If I had one criticism it would be that the soup was maybe a little too hot, but otherwise, everything was perfect. I have a new favorite place to eat in Pittsburgh, and I plan to return. read more

I come here all the time. Great people. Wonderful food!! Perfect beer selection. I brought my soccer team here one night and this became the spot to be after every game. I've been coming to stokes for about 8 years or so now, and they have come a long way from the new family-owned soup and sandwich restaurant they were on McKnight. Just in the past few years, they've expanded their dining room and added on a bar room serving a wide selection of craft beer. To their menu, they've also added pizza, which from the few I have tried were amazing. Overall, the food is excellent, the service and the owners are even better, and this is a must stop if you're looking for a quick lunch or a place to go for happy hour for a good craft beer. read more

Food was great! We had the Philly Chicken and Chicken Salad. The service was REALLY poor; the were short staffed by 3 WAITRESSES and 2 cooks!!!! They actually turned 3 groups of people away because they had no staff and flipped the CLOSED SIGN on! We waited 30 minutes for food and did without refills! Love everything about this place except for the mellow Dad-rock music that's always playing. Excellent and varied beer selection, extremely knowledgeable bar and wait staff, great and inventive food. We usually just eat and leave, though. With the super boring music, there is no incentive to head to the bar area afterwards to enjoy a few more drinks. We're usually half asleep by the time we're done eating. We're not looking for a club scene, but a little bit more upbeat music would punch the vibe up just enough to make people linger a bit longer. Came here with my parents, who were in from out of town. Restaurant was half full, took a good 15 minutes to get drinks, another hour for our food. Our order was not correct, we were given no utensils and no condiments. Poor management planning for staff on a Saturday night.. do not recommend for a good meal. read more

I'm new to the area and decided to try out Stoke's as I heard their food is great. I called to order my food and when I got the restaurant I went in on the bar side, and was not greeted by the bartender, so I then walked to the main entrance and stood in front of a sign that read "Please wait to be seated". I waited and two waitresses walked out and made eye contact with me but neglected to say anything. I then wandered around the restaurant and made my way back to the bar area where I asked the bar tender where I could pick up my order and she helped me out. But geez was the service horrible. A more welcoming staff would increase my rating. read more

Stoke's is fairly stupdendous, given its slightly humble location (on McKnight Road, but in a little retail strip that's boring at best). Their menu is extensive - soups, sandwiches on any carbohydrate-based lifeform imaginable, salads, burgers, and sides. That could sound potentially dull, but Stoke's hallmark is taking standard deli-grill offerings and either adding a gourmet ingredient or two (pesto, artichokes, and Brie on the fries!) or replacing crap-from-a-can with their own homemade or homecooked ingredients (roasted beef, fresh cheese sauce). The food, at worst, is satisfying and tasty, and at best is "omigod why don't I eat here every day." Usually the latter. The soups are ungodly good - atypical offerings like a chilled banana rum are great in summertime, and their cream of mushroom actually tastes of real mushrooms, instead of a gloppy milky mixture. As far as service goes, you couldn't ask for a friendlier fare. The owners (a young couple) offer genuine smiles every time, and are quick to accommodate their customers. It's clean, it's bright, there's plenty of beverage options (BYOB, as well). Prices are very reasonable (around $7 for most sandwich-type things) especially considering the portions are swell, and they often come with homemade chips! read more

We were there on a Saturday afternoon.. It wasn't very crowded. The food was delicious. There was so many different homemade soup options (I had the southwest creamy chicken & it was soo good). My guy had the funky chicken pizza which was verry yummy as well... We also has the cheese queso w/pretzel pieces for an app... Just picked up curbside order and had a very disappointing experience. We have been customers at Stokes for years. We completely understand that we are in different times and mindful of being extra patient and understanding. However, the current circumstances do not give an excuse for treating your patrons with disrespect and being downright rude. We called to let them know we were outside and provided color, type of car and location (it's not a large parking lot). The woman came out, went to 2 different cars. We honked but she went back inside. We waited...no call, no one came back out. We were patient. After 15 min we called again only to be spoken to with a great deal of disrespect. The woman made bold faced lies, saying she "came out like 20 time." This is just absurd, it's a small lot, we were watching for her. So, she arrogantly hangs up and sends her coworker out to give us our order. We asked to speak with a manager. She says it's the owner and tells us she will send him out to speak with us. Ten minutes later we call and ask to speak with owner who states that he is cooking and unable to go out to speak with customers. His apologies were followed by excuses and he was too busy making excuses to really listen to what happened. After 5 minutes of trying to interject his excuses we let him know that the woman told us she was sending him out to speak with us. It was a terrible experience and huge waste of time that resulted in cold food and frustration. Can't see going back just on principle. read more

In an area full of restaurant chains, it's always great when a family owned and operated establishment becomes 'king of the road'. Stoke's serves some of the best sandwiches and most delicious pizza's McKnight Road has to offer. We love Stokes Grill! I've been a huge fan since they first opened and love that they now have a bar and party room. The owners have always been very kind and friendly and the staff follow their leadership. We never feel rushed when we eat in and enjoy the freshness of the food. Fabulous soups! I ordered 2 gallons of their mushroom soup for my Christmas Eve celebration and my family LOVED it! Stop in for a pick-two (soup + 1/2 sandwich) and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. And the people running the place are lovely. The food is great, but the beer is ludicrously expensive, my fault i suppose for not looking at the price before ordering, but for $9 was like half a pint, like it was served in one of those stella artois looking glasses but smaller. The kicker was the waitress who didnt bring us water for almost the entirety of the meal. It was dead on a saturday night, she had 2 other tables and couldnt remember WATER. She came back three times after we had to ask twice for the water and we are sitting there cringing as we ate our sodium packed meal without water. Im not saying it was overly salty or anything, but for what we were eating we didnt want our water right before the fucking check; the russian dressing, au ju dip, the pesto on the french fries. I had to force it all down because i had no water, put it in a cup and bring it to me, dont come back with more of my salty food and NOT the fucking water i should have had before my app got here. She would disappear for 15 mins at a time and then come back without water. To top it all off she stole $5 out of our change. She didnt bring back the check with our change and after we waited like suckers for 10 minutes for her to come back we got the hint she was hiding from us in the kitchen we gave up and left. read more

I am at Stoke's probably once a week for either dinner or beer...well, always beer! Awesome bar and grill and they have a great rotating draft list with a lot of local brews which is nice. Everything I've eaten here has been good...sandwiches, pizzas, soups. Always have a seat at or near the bar. And, the service is always wonderful! I have gone to Stoke's Grill over the years and always had a decent experience. After tonight I will not be going back. When I first walked in, I stood at the hostess stand for at least 5 minutes, and did not once see an employee enter the dining room, and there were other tables there. When I finally was greeted it was an awkward "so like,?did you order take out, or.....?" To which I said I'd like a table(duh). I was sat at a dirty table, and than sat for another 5 minutes at least, while I was not acknowledged by anyone. Just as I was about to get up, a server came over, and another awkward greeting and drink order. After waiting another few minutes I moved into the bar. The service was slightly better in there, but still terrible. Waited with closed menus for a good 20 minutes or so. Once our order was in, the food came in a reasonable amount of time, and was mediocre. I will say they have a decent Reuben, but if you order the fries, they suck. Sorry, can't sugar coat that. For a place that makes their own food, getting a side of crappy frozen french fries is disappointing. Once our food came we waited again to get condiments, and again for our check. As a SIN veteran, and a former local, small business owner, I am surprised that they have made it this far with such a lackluster experience, considering the recent boom in awesome local eateries, where the service typically matches the incredible food. It's one thing when a restaurant/bar is busy; I have no problem waiting however long it takes, as long as I see that the service is making a valiant effort, but this experience was clearly just lazy people giving zero f***s. read more

Have been going here for years. The good is very good. The homemade soups are excellent! Unique soup picks based on season along with all-time favorites like Crab Bisque. Love the Frizzle quesadilla, Cuban sandwich, Pretzel sandwiches. I don't think that I have had a bad meal there. They recently increased the size of the restaurant and added a great bar. The bar has very unique choices of beer that you can't find in most other places. The owners are always there and are very nice people. The staff are always outgoing and care about their customers. This is one of those reliable places to eat to where you know you won't be disappointed and will leave feeling good. read more
