Interactions with staff were purely transactional, no small talk or pleasantries, unlike what others have experienced. My drink was ready within a few minutes, while my food took 15. Maple Cinnamon Chai: autumn in a cup. The spices added a cozy warmth to the chai, and the balance of tea to milk was just right. The maple syrup was subtle, leaving a light, sweet aftertaste. Lovely seasonal option. Beechwood Bowl: customizable bowl with your choice of protein, cheese, and sauce. The base comes with two eggs, potatoes, onions, and peppers. I went with sausage, vegan mozzarella, and sriracha mayo. The to-go version came in a paper box with utensils. The portion was on the smaller side, but the potatoes and veggies were well-seasoned and nicely cooked. The eggs were soft but a bit bland. The sausage was finely chopped and on the salty side. The vegan mozzarella added a creamy texture. The sriracha mayo had good flavor, but the drizzle was too light to carry through the whole dish. The standout was the crispy potatoes, everything else was just okay. I wouldn't return for the food, but the drinks were memorable. I'd definitely come back for their coffee or tea.

This visit wasn't quite at that same level, but I still enjoyed the experience overall. This time, I ordered a hot caramel latte and a rosemary brown sugar latte. The presentation was fine, and the café itself is aesthetically pleasing. I especially enjoyed the lower level filled with hanging plants, which creates a relaxing, zen atmosphere that's perfect for studying, reading, or catching up with friends. The cashier was friendly and accommodating, and the café was very clean overall. My only criticism was with the drink preparation. While we were waiting, it seemed like the espresso and milk were ready, but the drinks sat for a few minutes while conversations continued behind the counter before they were finished. As a result, the coffee wasn't as hot as it could have been by the time we received it. I was also a little disappointed with the rosemary brown sugar latte. I was really looking forward to that flavor combination, but I could barely taste either the rosemary or the brown sugar. It felt like there was only a hint of the flavoring, so the drink came across more like a regular latte than the specialty drink I had ordered. Overall, I would definitely come back because I know how great Hydra Coffee can be. My first visit was outstanding, and I know they're capable of making exceptional coffee. The atmosphere is relaxing, the staff is friendly, and I appreciate the unique drink menu. I'm hoping this visit was just an off day because I look forward to giving them another try.

However, I have noticed that the lattes are a bit weak, and are much better if you order a double shot of espresso. This makes the drink quite a bit more expensive however, when I feel that they could just adjust the ratio for the latte slightly. We stopped in specifically because they advertise pour overs, but the experience didn't live up to…read moreexpectations. I ordered a Kenya pour over, and unfortunately it tasted closer to basic diner or convenience-store drip coffee--slightly burnt and lacking any of the clarity or flavor notes you'd expect from a properly prepared pour over. As someone who regularly makes pour overs at home, this was especially disappointing because there was no distinction in taste or quality. The preparation process also didn't feel intentional. The pour seemed rushed and inconsistent--initially a quick dump of water, then the barista stepped away to do other tasks, came back intermittently, and finished with a more uneven, spray-like pour. There didn't appear to be any timer use or focused brewing process, which may explain the lack of extraction quality. On top of that, pricing felt on the higher side. Milk alternatives and mocha add-ons each came with additional charges, which stacked up quickly. Service-wise, staff were polite but not particularly engaging or welcoming, which made the overall experience feel even more transactional. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this spot if you're going specifically for high-quality pour overs or craft coffee. It may work better for standard espresso drinks or quick stops, but it didn't deliver on the specialty coffee experience we were hoping for.
