Oh dear! Let us start at the beginning, we sat down at a little table right in the middle of the rapidly filling up restaurant. The waiter took our drinks order, I had been looking forward to trying some of the cocktails on their website menu (which has irritating music playing in the background...hello 1995), but was told rather curtly that these were no longer available as this was an old menu. The prices are higher on the new menu too... No matter, we had a couple of cocktails which weren't bad and asked the waiter to take our food order once we had finished. This was clearly a problem as we sat for at least 15 minutes after finishing, menus closed waiting for someone to come past. The waiter rushed past, I caught his eye and said 'Hi', he said 'Hi' then moved to clearing another table. Eventually he came back and took our order, with a clumsy up-sell asking us if we wanted large starters...why would we want large starters when there is a whole back of ribs to come, I digress. The starters arrived, one Southern fried wings, one BBQ wings. Both on the cusp of being cold, both slightly pink in the middle. Fair enough, this place is known for it's BBQ right, this is how it comes...ok, they weren't bad although the pink was a little worrying and the 'tobasco' southern fried chicken was really just battered chicken. While we waited and waited for our mains we heard the table behind sending back their food for being cold, in-fact while we were there several dishes went back to the kitchen untouched. Were these wrong orders? What are the waiters doing? The table behind got their replacement chicken...we still waited. Hooray! It arrived...uh oh, chicken was barely warm...again, this time it was going back. We broached this subject with the waiter, who's response was...and I quote "how come?", bemused we just looked at him, he said again, slightly more forcefully "how come?". Wtf? He then sighed and took it away to be reheated, at which point we definitely regretted coming here. My ribs were not so hot either, and really no better than Waitrose own brand. Not a patch in Bodeans or perhaps any other reputable BBQ place in London. After waiting for 15 minutes for the table to be cleared, that was enough! The maître d' clearly saw our pain and was good enough to remove the chicken and starters from our bill, which even then was not small. This place is the worst of TGI Fridays, meets the worst of Hard Rock Cafe.

So I thought I was doing a good thing. I'd been meaning to come here before I'd started writing a list for Yelp of the best American restaurants in London (later the UK and then Europe). I'd even enter competitions for vouchers in the idea that it'd finally give me the impetus to come. So the do a free Stars and Stripes promo for the 4th - you get a free sundae if you wear them. Read Nickie C's review for what happened there - in summary no sundae, and a waitress that may have thought we were nuts because my wife showed off her starry shoes. We arrive right on time, to a restaurant which is about a quarter full at 6pm. So where do we get seated in a restaurant which has one large table of 15 or so finishing and a table of two starting? Yep, directly between the two. Impossibly loud, the acoustics really carry on here. Couldn't really talk to each other over the noise from the other tables in a nearly empty restaurant. Half price mains had one main at half price. I went for a burger will pulled pork on top - that was I got to try the burgers and the barbecue in one hit, along with some sweet potato fries. She orders a portion of jalapeño poppers. They comprised of raw chilli cut open and stuffed with cream cheese in a light better. The chills weren't cleaned out of seeds, so we're incredibly spicy if their raw form. Burgers arrived. Good crust on the burger. Buns were so-so and tasted like a longlife bun. Pulled pork was a dark brown tasteless mush on top of the burger. I cut the thing in half, ate one half and then just the edges of the burger on the second half. Sweet potato fries were good - but I recognised then from other restaurants, they're a frozen type and not made in house. Then we had to try to get our plates cleared when we still had about 45% of the food left on there. That took a while. The the sundae fiasco. Then waited for fifteen minutes until the waitress came over and asked if we wanted anything else. Final insult was that our waitress blocked my wife in while she was trying to leave because she was busy pouring water for the table next to us. I'd been really looking forward to this and it was just awful.

Ding, dong, delicatessen! It was bloody tasty! I had a hamburger, a cheeseburger, and a delicious salad.

Good food. Very basic American style. The mac and cheese had over cooked cheese on top, but otherwise everything was edible!

The Ship - A firm favourite - Sticky Toffee Pudding

This is our local favorite. It's always heaving during the summer over the weekends. During the…read morewinter it's much less busier. The food is decent and the staff are super friendly to our dog. There's always dog treats available for our hungry dog. There's seating out front and out the back and there's two separate bars. There's nice seating near the water too and great for nice summer days.

I entered the Ship rather apprehensively given some of the other reviews here but left knowing I…read morecouldn't give it less than five stars. The food here is simply excellent. My friend and I came here on a Sunday and opted for two chicken roasts. The chicken was cooked well and accompanied by a huge Yorkshire pudding, gravy, roast potatoes and various sides, such as sweet potato puree. If I had one complaint about the roast it would be that the potatoes could have been slightly warmer, but 'tis a small blemish. No matter though, because the desserts took the experience up a couple of notches. I went for a fig and maple syrup bakewell tart with prune ice cream and my friend sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. One bite of each was all it took to seal this place's 5 star rating: warm, flavoursome and oozing quality. The sticky toffee pudding was particularly good, up there with the very best I've had. Elsewhere, there are plenty of other pluses. Though a Young's pub, it had a few other ales on draft, including the ever-dependable Samsbrook Wandle and new beer Pumphouse Pale Ale. The other food on offer looked very good too: tempting scotch eggs that sadly they'd sold out of when we took our seats; burgers in posh baps and string fries. The rest of the dessert menu was extraordinary, containing no less than five dessert wines, something I've never seen before on a pub menu. And perhaps most surprising of all, the food wasn't that expensive: about £13 for the roast chicken, £4 for the Samsbrooks and an admittedly fairly expensive but still worth it £7 for the desserts. Service was good and there's plenty of space inside. The only slight negative of the experience was that it took about 20 minutes to be seated. Really though, that's not bad compared to how long waits can be. And in this instance, it was easily worth it. As for the yuppies, it's true that there were a few here, but they were in the minority. I didn't find them particularly irksome - not like the masses of hipsters to be found out east. And indeed, arguably if it weren't for the spending power and preferences of this Fulham set, the food wouldn't be what it is, so heck, it could be said they're a force for good...

I recently returned while on a short trip to London and the kebab was just as delicious as I remembered. You can dine in or take away - make sure to ask for all the vegetable and sauce toppings on the kebab. It may seem a little pricey for one kebab but you get a ton of meat etc and if you can manage some self control and only eat half of it, it is a viable next-day lunch leftover option. The guys working the counter were always super nice as well!

I was about to take a moment to consider the vagaries of fate, when I saw a banner over the windows proclaiming: Best Mangal! I nearly squeed out loud. My husband and I have been trekking across the entire length of North End Road to West Ken for the past 3 years for the best Turkish kebab joint in all of London. And now, like the mountain to Mohammed, the Best Mangal had come to us in Fulham! Here's the deal: it's good, it's better than good, it's a stratosphere above the average kebab. Less than a tenner gets you an amazing lamb beyti, with heaping salad (delish in its own right!) and bread basket. Chicken donor is actually pretty lovely as well--didn't expect that! Looks like a takeaway, but there is a lovely restaurant portion with a garden patio where you can go for some hookah action if so inclined. Maybe when the weather is milder? The staff are so nice and shake hands when we come in--that could be because we went 3 times in one week when they first opened. =) Btw, hands down, better than the lousy Lebanese restaurant across the way. Just sayin'. Shame about us moving to Clapham...I reckon if the Best Mangal banner had appeared before we signed the papers, we might have had to reconsider leaving Fulham. In any case, we still trek, but this time across the river for some mouthwateringly delicious kebabs. What's even better is that the lure of a Best Mangal dinner gets me to David Lloyds at least once a week! Two birds! Anyway, if you're in Clapham, Fulham or Putney, make your pilgrimmage now. You'll not regret it. Promise. And you may even see us there!

We arrived at 7.30pm for an evening meal, and first impressions were very positive. The decor is very nice - a bit stark and echoey for my taste, but that's a personal pression, nothing else. The staff were friendly and attentive - and the friendliness lasted throughout our visit. Sadly, the same cannot be said of the attentiveness. Orders were taken quickly and starters weren't too slow either. But that's were the attentiveness stopped. We waited at least 25 minutes between our starters being cleared and our mains appearing. And then it took half an hour for anyone to take our order for dessert - that's 30 minutes between being given the menu and being able to catch someone's eye to order. In total, our meal took 2hours and 15 minutes. Which is far longer than I'd ever expect of a three course meal, but which could have been forgiven if the food was exceptional. It wasn't. There was nothing desperately wrong with any of it, but none of it was truly exciting. Not once it turned up, at any rate. My starter - curried crab samosas - sounded really different, but fell flat, and was a disappointing start to the evening. The filling was a little boring, and not very crabby in flavour, and the pastry casings were a bit greasy. Which would become a theme. The raita that came with the samosas was the highlight - lovely and fresh and well seasoned. I'd have eaten more of that...but not of any of the rest. My main was a tart of English asparagus, leeks and Cornish Yarg if puff pastry, topped with salad. The tart itself was tasty enough - the leeks maybe a little creamy and a little too abundant, but the asparagus and cheese making up the difference. The major issue I had with this was that the plate was drizzled with oil, and the salad drenched in dressing. And when you put oil anywhere near puff pastry, it ends up tasting and looking oily. And excessive oil is not something I'm a fan off, so that rather ruined my main. We did wait for dessert, but regretted it. Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and rum toffee sauce. The sauce was nice, the ice cream ok, and the sticky toffee pudding itself was both stodgy and tasteless. A disappointing end to a disappointing evening. I think the main problem with our visit is that we went for a meal, and The Jam Tree is better suited to being a wine bar or pub. As long as you're willing to be served at the bar, it seems great. The wine list is extensive, and the garden out the back looks like a lovely place to spend a few hours. So whilst my visit was disappointing, and probably won't be repeated, I wouldn't entirely write the place off.

The ambiance is pretty nice, with tall ceilings, bars on the doors, deep secure downstairs restroom area with a solid steel door resembling a vault... ...yes, this location is inside an old bank. That adds a nice extra 'something' to the dining experience. The most epic item I had from their menu was their MILKSHAKE. it was EPIC. Served SMOOTH, THICK, and CREAMY straight from the steel cup it was blended in. Just simply amazing. The next best item I had was the sweet potato fries. They were cooked just right (which in my opinion is just a little bit more brown than most folks think they should be cooked) and tasted fantastic. My burger was good...I wanted it to be better. I did order it medium well and they did just that. It was a little on the tough side...I should have ordered it medium or somethign slightly less than medium. The cheese was great (Byron Cheese = three types of cheese melted together). The sauce was pretty good (Byron Sauce = mayo + ketchup + some secret ingredient). Lettuce and tomato was good. Bun was toasted and appropriately squishy (they advertise squishy buns on their menu; squishy = soft). But the whole wasn't greater than the sum of its parts. That said, I wish I was a cow (no offense intended) so I could have more stomachs to take in all of the goodness present. All in all, a great meal (that milkshake tho - EPIC!) and I'm glad I had the chance to visit Byron's. If you're in NYC, look me up, lol.
