Late afternoon sun was pouring through the western windows. Kind of surprised they don't have an awning over the patio outside or something to dim the direct sun coming into the interior dining space. Was excited to try their Portabella and Goat Cheese Flatbread ($16) as I love mushrooms as well as goat cheese. Sad to report I could barely taste either on the flatbread as it was primarily arugula & balsamic that dominated the crust. I like both of those things, but that's not why I ordered it and it wasn't the name of the dish. Also ordered the Smoked Salmon Dip ($16), which was served with crostinis. Don't necessarily love crostinis, but the dip was pretty good. Ordered their Sam Adams Octoberfest, but wish they had a porter or stout on tap as the options seemed to be a bunch of pale ales and usual macro suspects. Not opposed to returning, but there are too many other options around the county to place this high in the priority list based on this experience.

Not sure what management is doing. From my perspective it is about the staff being into their selves. Went in on a Weekend, sat down at the bar no one waited on me, Sunday I think couple dudes behind the bar. After 10 or so minutes, got up and walked out. If you are management, do not placate me or apologize. Fix your business, helpful tip. You lost me forever, but you should know. You are probably out of state vacationing, I've seen you at the bar in over watch. Have not seen you lately. Fire everybody start over. Owners need to review the tape, Worse staff behind the bar I have ever witnessed, Today, place was empty, absolutely no one there, my waitresses name rhymes with hell. Ordered a beer a menu and several times a water. She was either intoxicated or high. Said I did not hear you. So ok, you brought me a Tenderloin with Fries and two Yengling drafts. You heard that. So pissed off at Patsy's Pub and lack of management makes me sick. What don't you understand about I would like a water with my meal. My experience recently is no management is present and the inmates are running this joint. Never going back.

Meanwhile, two persistent flies hovered around our food, which didn't help. The live country singer was a great idea, but the volume was so loud my husband couldn't hear me even when I shouted. Add in a long wait for the check, and we left feeling pretty frustrated. I will say the Patty Melt itself was delicious - it just would've been nice if the mix-up had been acknowledged with a small discount. Prices seemed a snitch high for a bar-like local pub. Burgers started at $14 and the smallest size pizza (12"?) started at $19. Sorry, we won't be back.

There is a competition for who serves the best tenderloin and even a "Tenderloin Trail". The Piper had their tenderloin sandwiches on special for $3 off regular prices during the month long event. The Piper is a popular sports bar near Morse Reservoir with a neighborhood bar vibe. A pool table and several electronic games are available for the night crowd. We sat in the inside dining area, but there is also seating on the patio and at the bar. Sports and beer decor cover the walls. Michaela, our server, was super friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly. Michaela kept our glasses full. The breaded tenderloins are large and served on a fresh toasted sesame seed bun. The breading tastes flavorful and pork is freshly prepared. The sandwich was served with a dijonaise sauce and lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. The kettle style potato chips were delicious as well. All in all, it was a great tenderloin and worth the drive north.

This is not the place for wine people. I saw no wine on any menu at The Broken Barrel. But, for…read morereal, that's OK with me. And I say this as a hardcore wine person. I fully accept that this is a safe space for bourbon people and whiskey people. (I know: Bourbon is a type of whiskey! Just go with me here.) They have a literal wall of bourbon at The Broken Barrel. Pro tip: Look at the menu and see what they offer, but then walk up to the bar and look at the wall of whiskey and bourbon, and see what they have available that day. What they have available and what's on the menu can vary. You might see some goodies on the wall that aren't listed on the menu. If I'm not drinking wine, then I'm drinking gin. Luckily for me, there was a gin drink on the menu, so I got that: The New Gatsby, which is Hendrick's gin, St. Germain, cherry and lime, served in a tall glass with lots of ice. It was refreshing, but I kind of wish it had more gin in it! It was very sweet and light, and the perfect beverage for someone who likes light, sweet drinks. A dirty martini was also ordered, which is vodka, olive juice and bleu-cheese-stuffed olives. They make a dang good dirty martini here! It's like drinking a salty salad in a glass, if you're into that sort of thing. The Broken Barrel is a dark, cozy space, and a good place to get a drink. Keep in mind that it's 21+, so adults only! But because this bar is attached to Wolfie's Grill, you can order food here, and get it sent to The Broken Barrel.

Pulling into the packed parking lot on a football Sunday, we were already discussing our backup…read moreplan if the wait was too long. Turns out the entire heated patio is first come, first served, and we were seated almost immediately. It was one of those windy Indiana afternoons where the cold finds every gap in your jacket. I fully expected to spend lunch shivering. Somehow, the heated patio felt warmer than the restaurant itself. Between the TVs, football on every screen, and the patio heaters, we had zero complaints. Now let's talk about the famous pepperoni-stuffed breadsticks. They're a must. And order your own nacho cheese. Seriously. Don't expect anyone to share. I could eat a shoe dipped in their cheese and probably enjoy every bite. The breadsticks always arrive piping hot, stuffed with gooey mozzarella, and if we're judging on a cheese-pull scale...I'm giving them a solid 7/10 on the stretch meter. As for our server, Zach...what a true gem. He's one of those people I'd honestly be surprised to hear anyone say they didn't like. Funny, quick with the jokes, and somehow kept up with the chaos without missing a beat. He also made sure my lemon drop martinis never had a chance to get lonely. Since I wasn't driving, he happily assisted me in...staying hydrated. The place was busy enough that we couldn't stand around chatting long, but he's the kind of person you'd genuinely enjoy running into again. We've been here twice now, and both visits have been consistently great. Whether you're stopping in to catch the game, escape the cold on the heated patio, or simply satisfy a craving for those ridiculously good breadsticks, Ale Emporium continues to be one of our favorite spots. Just don't skip the breadsticks...and trust me, order your own cheese. You'll understand after the first bite.

I went with hermanaki, and while the sauce was good, it wasn't special enough that I would pay an extra $1 for it again. Then, the meat was SO dry. The fries were tasty and the service on the patio was fast, but next time I want boneless wings, I'd actually prefer one of the typical wing chains. I did see two families get turned away for having kids, so I wonder if the 21+ status for this location could be better advertised since other locations are family friendly.
