It's that time again folks the holiday season is upon us! My family took our annual trip to this Hallmark store for the holiday season. Every year we like to pick out at least one hallmark ornament that symbolizes our year. Our family loves Peanuts, so we tend to buy a new Snoopy ornament every year. I love this store because of all the holiday decor and I'm able to find the right card for the right occasion. Today, I purchased 6 cards, a pair of holiday earrings, and my annual Hallmark musical snowman. The snowman is regular $44.95 but with the purchase of 3 cards, it's $34.95. There are so many holiday items to choose to decorate your home or office, it will be hard to choose. I don't know the salesperson's name because it's not anyone I've seen before. I usually am able to engage in casual conversation with them if they're not busy. But while looking at some items in front of the counter, I commented that something was very cute and held it up. She looked at me while I was talking so I said, this would be really nice if it played music...does it? But she chose not to respond while I was still smiling at her. I decided to move on and pick out the items I wanted. I did but the annual snowman, of which I do every year, but during check out, the same sales person was helpful with ringing me up, but not very personable at all. I told her that I do use the hallmark seals and she stayed "it's in there." On occasions, they have coupons for future purchases, so I asked if they had any currently. She stated, you get those navy nail or email, we don't give coupons from the store. I mentioned that, occasionally, during the holidays, they have coupons like $5 off of $30, etc. She repeated they don't do that. How could you not like the Hallmark store? It's literally a store that's curated to lift someone's spirit, personally or relationally. They have an array of greeting cards that fit any occasion, personalized trinkets and unique gifts to celebrate your loved ones. I like being a rewards member because I can pick out a free greeting card monthly so it helps me send cards via mail, which is a lost art due to technology. The customer service is welcoming but the ambiance can appear a bit clutter due to all of the decor. read more

The 4 star ratings is with the following consideration: 1) the location is Elk Grove and there is nothing similar around 2) when they have sale the price is awesome, the discount on ornament is awesome after the holidays 3) they offer coupon from time to time 4) but the coupon has limitations on when you can use it 5) they have a website that have items on sale that can deliver to store for free if you don't mind the wait 6) the staff are nice 7) they have some inventories that I wonder if they ever sells. For example, all those Loungefly sitting on the shelves. One can probably score in another store with discount (as I've never seen them on promotion ever) 8) Store is clean, well lit, and welcoming 9) Conveniently located next to Target. I'm updating my review to one star because the older woman would not let me use my coupon at checkout today. I have always used those coupons I receive from hallmark and it has never been a problem at this location before. I would like to give kudos to the other woman who usually assists me at checkout when I come in and she always offers to take an extra penny from me so that my change will not be more pennies. She's great and 5/5 stars for her. I will emphasize again that their card selection is lacking. They have a whole card aisle that's empty. Will not be returning. I haven't been there in many years now ,was looking for reviews. It was a great place to get nice cards etc.

I placed an online order for pickup. I received an email saying it's ready then another immediately after saying it was picked up. I called to find out what happened and was told they couldn't help me. Computers were down? Refused to refund the order even though they admitted making a mistake unless I came in with my card even though they could easily charge my card for the purchase. It was all very shady and unprofessional and I will never place an order with them again. I resolved my issue with hallmark online where they even acknowledged that they should have just refunded the purchase when asked to do so. read more

There's so much variety at this store from Sanrio items to Snoopy. They had some cool niche figurines on display and cute Christmas ornaments. Yeah, they are kind of pricey and yeah, maybe I did spend almost $10 for a roll of wrapping paper each but there's nothing like this in the area. It's tucked away next to Target so traffic can get kind of crowded. It was just nice seeing stuff in store and maybe getting it online for cheaper. Plenty of parking in the shared lot for the plaza. Not too busy in the late afternoon on a rainy weekday. Clean interior, though there were some boxes lying around and impeding foot traffic. Some aisles are a bit narrow. Since Christmas just passed, so the Christmas/holiday paraphernalia is 50% off. That's a tempting deal, especially for some of the plushies. Otherwise, kind of expensive at their usual prices. Slim pickings for any otakus looking for anime merchandise. They do carry some Pusheen items and lots of Disney and Peanuts merchandise. Great collection of overpriced gifts. I like to purchase a new Christmas ornament every year, so I was here for this reason. I am a Rewards card holder, but needed to update my info and they were able to do that after three attempts and me finding my card. I had to ask--they weren't very attentive and didn't offer to help like they do at other Hallmark locations. I hope I won't have to return here. I would give Steve's Hallmark a zero if I could. Apparently "Steve's Hallmark" owns more than a few stores in the Sacramento area and in the bay area. But in 2023 they haven't figured out how to connect the stores. Ordering online is extremely inconvenient...if you make the mistake and choose the wrong store to pick up at they won't ship the order to the other store even though they own both stores. I have to agree on someone who mentioned the old lady who might be racist. Yes I'm Asian too. I collect hallmark ornaments & some seasonal decor and every time that old lady responses comes off as rude and ignores me most of the time. Her tone of voice doesn't sit right with me. She's very attentive & chirpy to white costumers; well most of the time. I did see her be rude to white customers on two separate visits. She's also is in such a hurry to check me out and doesn't ask if I'm a rewards member (I am) and ignore my coupons. The younger employees are friendly, polite, and helpful. The vibe does feel welcoming when she's not there. But the store does have really great things in stock. Items are a bit expensive tho. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would.... Visiting from another city an hour away and was so excited to see a Hallmark (The one in my city closed). Walked in with my son and kept looking around. The lady (older lady) asked for help and I said I'm just looking.. after that I kept seeing her following me. Aisle after aisle...As if I can't see her, standing and staring at me... Went to the front of the store and worked my way to from left to right thinking to myself this would be a great place to buy Christmas presents for everyone... I started feeling on edge... I look up and she's there again! I thought to myself, Maybe you're crazy and overthink things, but nope. Went to the back of the store and stopped to take my son out of the stroller because he was crying and there she was again... in the same aisle, pretending to look at things .... I had it. I had to leave. I explained to another worker that if she thought I was stealing or whatever her reason was that she just needed to ask me to leave. Not follow me to every aisle. This was the worst experience I've had... being racial profiled... Needless to say... I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS STORE AGAIN! read more

The customer service in this shop has declined for years. During my recent visit to purchase ornaments, the staff was cold, condescending, and rude. I like to browse. So before picking my items out I overheard an associate advising a customer on the phone of their hold policy. Instead of explaining it in a manner that was gracious for their patronage the associate spoke to the customer as if it was a privilege for them to shop in this store. When I checked out, the associate who helped me acted as if she was too busy to help and didn't greet or thank me. Do yourself a favor and shop on line... the service is much better! read more

I went in today to buy a willow tree figurine . I didn't see the box for it so I asked the lady at the counter. First I waited in line where there was nobody standing. I was the only one. There was 4 people behind the counter and not one looked up and told me they could help me. They were all too busy doing their own thing. Finally after 5 minutes she says she can help me. So I asked her if she could help me find the box for the figurine and she said yes. So I walked over and waited by the display . And waited and waited.... the store had nobody in line and about 4 people shopping. So it wasn't crowded. She never came to help me. Someone else got in line and she took that person RIGHT AWAY. As I was just standing in the corner staring at her. So after 10 minutes I figured she wasn't going to help me. I was able to finally grab a different girl and she was able to help me quickly and get me to the register right away. Horrible customer service. I felt ignored and unimportant. One of the store clerks, an older lady, has very poor customer service skills. I am a frequent customer, but my experience with her has been rather unpleasant most of the time. Maybe, because I am Asian. Last year at the beginning of lock down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I went to the store. She was standing outside the store. I thought she was just controlling the number of customers who can enter. Instead of a pleasant greeting, she said, "Why are you here for?" I said, "To buy cards." Today, after picking up a few cards, I stood where a sign on a post near the cash register enclosure indicated to wait for the next available cashier. She was talking inside the enclosure with another clerk. They saw me but, they left the register area. I said, "Excuse me!", but there was no response. Maybe this older lady did not hear me. So I repeated in a little louder voice. She looked at me, but no response again. I said, " Can I get some help?" Still no response. I repeated louder, "Can I get some help here?" Then she said, "What do you need the help for?" I said, " I'd like to pay for these cards." She said, "You have to come to the window." I told her the sign indicates to wait for the next cashier. She ignored me. Is she rude like this to everybody, or because I am Asian? read more

How many times has this place has been knocked over that they don't accept bills larger than $20? We went in here to buy a Precious Moments figurine and I doubt any were priced lower than $60. Our total came to $68, and we tried to pay with a $50 and a $20 bill. It's not like they needed to make a special trip to the back to get my change. I felt like I was living out the lines of a classic Mos Def song, "Now, who is the cat with the hundred dollar bill/They gotta send it to the lab to make sure the s**t is real". I'm pretty sure I saw a 12 gauge under the counter as well. They should really consider installing bulletproof glass around the register area so they can feel comfortable changing high rollers such as myself. I think this shop is great. The employees are very helpful and friendly. At holiday time they do get lines. What store doesn't? they apologize for the line and keep smiling thru the grumbles. I called to see if something was in stock. The sales lady who answered the phone seemed to be rushed and as if I was interrupting her. When she checked on the item I requested she came back and said they were sold out. I asked if when more would be in stock or should I order online she said, "I don't know the answer to that question." That was all she offered; nothing more. She offered no help at all. I guess I'll be shopping elsewhere. With so many competitors out there for cards and gifts this store needs to up their game or they'll go out of business with rude, impolite sales staff. The Hallmark Ornament Premiere was great! The staff were extremely helpful, efficient and friendly, especially since this was the first preview during the Covid pandemic. The store signage was very clear, and the store itself was re-arranged to allow for social distancing and added clear screens at the cash registers, while still retaining its friendly and cheerful atmosphere. The staff, especially Jocelyn were at the top of their game, assisting all customers with a smile on their faces, conveyed by the warmth of their voices and twinkle of their eyes. I had called ahead to see if some of the limited items were available, and Jocelyn actually held them for me until I arrived! I highly recommend this shop! read more

If I could give a 0 I would. My mom doesn't get to visit often, and we were Christmas shopping, we decided to stop here. What a mistake!! There were more than a handful of people shopping, a lady who had several items in her hands and us who had two items to purchase. While mid shopping they decided to let us know they were closing by shutting the lights off and leaving a single light on. Didn't say nothing at all, not we are closing for the night please being your items to the front, no we will be open at this time tomorrow. Nothing! So the lady next to us and I put our items down because we assumed she didnt want us to purchase anything. Just to let you know that is a sure fire way to a law suit, it was pretty damn dark in there as we were trying to shuffle out with my daughter and elderly mother... hate to see someone trip fall and get hurt or get cut on glass. Try a little curtousey, by verbally telling people your closing, instead of turning the lights off on them. It's the normal business like thing to do. read more
